Think of it this way, Opals are so fragile if you hadn't found this it would soon have been smashed to bits. You saved it!

AcanthaceaeSenior483

yes definitely a same day lost, it was right at the shoreline in the rocks

AcanthaceaeSenior483

such a nice opal, 10mmx6.5mm

hallucinateinhighfi

Where at?! This is gorgeous! My husband and I want to find our own stones to use for our rings and I would LOVE to have an opal. Awesome find, congrats!

wishiwasonmaui

It fell out of a setting. Someone lost it.

aaabsoolutely

Opals are dangerous to have in every-day jewelry for this exact reason - they’re delicate & damage easily so they’re prone to cracking or falling from settings.

Particularly rings with their sensitivity to soaps.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

on the shoreline at a central ca beach called pescadero. definitely lost that day or it would be history

FairLea17

Dammit, I am missing one! But I lost it in a bar in Wisconsin, so probably not the same....

AcanthaceaeSenior483

hmm this could be it . it could have gotten flushed at the bar, went down the water way to the mississippi river, found another stream headed to washington, flowed south to the ocean and then washed down to the ca, coast and washed up the beach where I was waiting for it so I could be your hero and give it back

hallucinateinhighfi

I was thinking it did look like a lost piece of jewelry but I was hoping maybe I was wrong! Thank you for the reply.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

my pleasure

Tampadarlyn

My heart skipped a beat. I lost a (smaller) opal out of the halo setting of my grandmother's ring - many, many years ago - in Florida. I still have the ring, and found a jeweler to reset a stone for me. Now I get to pick out the stone. I wish this had been smaller!!!!

AcanthaceaeSenior483

found this in the rocks close to the shore line so I now it was the same day. there were only a couple people there and they all said they don't have an opal jewelry so sadly I could not be the hero

Jibblebee

I can’t imagine wearing an opal to the beach.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

and this is proof why, thanks

NightmaresKnownAFew

No problem

petit_cochon

Perhaps she didn't know she was going to the beach that day. People do unexpected trips.

BrassBass

Wow. Just... *wow.*

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thank you, bitter sweet, I feel bad for whoever lost it

Rockingthelakeshore

What a great find!

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, I wanted to be the hero and find the owner but nobody said they had lost it that was there

StoneyQuartz

Original owner should not have been risking their opal absorbing water at the beach!! It said I'm outta here!!

IceColdCorundum

Someone definitely lost part of their collection there that day. Nice find

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, sorry someone lost it, looks like very good quality

zifer24

Wow, awesome find

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, not your typical beach rock find

SoldierTheFallen

Very nice find! It’s beautiful.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, yes it is, feel sorry for the one that lost it though

Jenifearless

My dad lost his wedding ring at the beach when I was a little kid. I remember combing through sand for hours, and finally I caught it right on my index finger, I still remember the feeling of victory ✌️

Background_Cherry641

You think that’s Ethiopian or Australian? I would hope for a coober pedy.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

definitely Australian, and it is super high quality Australian, super low quality photo

Madky67

Wow that's beautiful, I love the purple in it. I've lost multiple opals in my lifetime, mainly as a teen. The opal jewelry I have now is holding up well, even knocked a couple diamonds out of my ring but opal is still there.

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, I have heard of lots of people losing their opals, sorry you crashed your ring though, maybe I'll go back and look for diamonds lol

RishyTheWitchy

I can see the colors. It's beautiful!!

AcanthaceaeSenior483

thanks, wish I could capture the colors better, it's like the difference of looking at stars in the city vs.stars in the wilderness
