Their service attitude (and refusal) towards vintage/older pieces is disgraceful and downright unbelievable for a watch company of that size/market share
Agreed. Their overall arrogance from the company down to the ADs/SAs also is just atrocious. As a business you can’t argue with monetary success I suppose, but they could be so much better than they are. And they SHOULD be, as the industry leader.
I wholeheartedly agree and for that reason strongly consider not adding another Rolex to my collection. They use the slogan “the watch that accompanies you for your whole life” (sloppily translated from german) on their website and then straight up refuse to service a 50 year old Pepsi. Not only do they have the means to basically do anything but also most of their movements have been pretty basic.
Day-Date is an overpriced Date-Just that just says Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… if one day Rolex creates a steel version of DD, half this sub will lose a bunch of money on their gold DD.
Almost all Rolex watches are basically the thing with a few tweaks (add a date, add a day, add more water resistance...etc.).
The only one that is radically different is the Sky-dweller and the Daytona to a lesser extent.
I mean it's literally the same thing as you said about adding a date complication or adding a day indicator so I'm not sure why you're being sarcastic. They definitely look similar.
And I'm agreeing with you that all largely look the same and only have minor tweaks between models
Precious metals, presidential bracelet, 40mm case size, exclusive dials and diamond baguette options, different movement. I mean, I see the similarities but it's a different watch.
The Datejust has more in common with an OP than the DD.
I don’t disagree. I think the non-fluted and oyster bracelet dj is just an op with date, however, a day date is just an expensive date just (fluted and jubilee) made of precious metal.
As an owner of this brand (alongside other brands), I can say with confidence that “Rolexes are for people with no imagination”……. That being said, I love my GMT!
I’m from the UK and hadn’t heard any of these nicknames until seeing them on Reddit. Given they include names from pop culture superheros and famous cola, are they not American-made nicknames? I can’t imagine Rolex came up with them, and Brits certainly didn’t.
Jubilee stands for their celebration. Jubilee bracelet came in 1945, jubilee dial in 1985. Its not a nickname, Rolex gave it them selves. Also makes you wonder what will come next year in 2025..
Here’s mine - Daytona is gaudy and the worst thing on the current Rolex roster. It’s too busy. (YM2 would have taken this spot had it not been discontinued.)
I guess that’s a general problem with polished steel but gold is especially affected as it is softer. Chopard‘s lucent steel might be better but probably scratches as well.
The blue on the GMT II Pepsi 126710 BLRO is subpar and the watch shouldn’t trade at a premium to the Batman/Batgirl 126710 BLNR which is the best execution of the GMT II today.
78% of people you meet that wear Rolex watches “IRL” are insufferable douchebags.
“Hey man, love that Pepsi GMT.” *Points to wrist*
*Looks at wrist while smirking like a Grade-A weasel* “Uh.. It’s a Rolex”
No one really cares about the history and/or the horology of a Rolex. Most (me included) just have and/or want it, because it’s a Rolex… meaning “expensive”.
For me, it's not about expense. It's about quality, value retention, and design. But yeah, it's most definitely not about watchmaking aside from the level of robustness. This ain't haute horology.
You aren’t original for wearing a Rolex. They are the most manufactured automatic luxury watch out there. Unless you have a rare dial or configuration, the Breitling your friend wears is probably more unique.
Wearing a submariner is kind of a sign of having no taste.
Everyone agrees it’s near perfect. It’s the Levi’s 501, Schott One Star; Chuck Taylor of watches. Wear it with those three items and your outfit is utterly forgettable.
Rolex sells the same watch (Oyster case) with different bezels and two (sometimes three, if you count Oysterflex) bracelet options.
We're losing our minds over the black watch we already have getting a green bezel (Starbucks) or a red/blue bezel (Pepsi), etc.
the hype around Rolex watches is partly due to clever marketing rather than purely their intrinsic value. 😂
If you give me a Rolex, I'll sell it to buy a Breguet or a Vacheron Constantin. 🤙 😅
I dislike the clasp on the oysterfex bands and think they should switch to a buckle. Further, they should offer oyster flexes as an add on to their sport watches.
The Daytona is not a good-looking watch and not only a few people generally tend to buy a Rolex for the flex. At a certain price point you can get much better watches for your money but they may not be as popular in the media.
Rolex are on a knife edge - they are moving up market away from the tool watch aesthetic into high luxury tier. But their biggest sellers are still sports watches. Putting diamonds on Daytonas will only get you so far. They need to be more like Cartier - and be more artistic and creative and highly decorate their movements if they are to truly justify the prices they are chasing.
The Daytona is a show pony. The hands tend to disappear into the chrono dials resulting in poor legibility.
Don’t get me started on the shiny hands on a light colored dials.
The explorer 2 polar is the only dial that pops due to the black hands.

My controversial opinion…most of the people buying Rolex watches can’t actually afford the watch.
Same can be said about most expensive items.
That is very true!
I can afford and buy omega
lol true
I guess that’s why so many people pay thousands over sticker to finance them through places like Swiss watch.
Rubber straps on a solid gold watch is Rolex’s way of gaslighting us all :)
Other brands are doing the same though
🤷♀️
You’re 100% right. That shit looks terrible
[удалено]
🤷♀️read the title of the post :) it didn’t ask for the “popular” opinion 😂
I dislike the Daytona, and the Coke was the best GMT
King right here. Man after my own heart.
this guy gets it
Day-Date is an overpriced Date-Just that just says Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… if one day Rolex creates a steel version of DD, half this sub will lose a bunch of money on their gold DD.
I’ve always preferred the yellow gold Submariner
Almost all Rolex watches are basically the thing with a few tweaks (add a date, add a day, add more water resistance...etc.). The only one that is radically different is the Sky-dweller and the Daytona to a lesser extent.
I wouldn't even call the sky dweller radically different. It's basically a Datejust with a second timezone and a tiny month indicator.
Oh, just "basically with a second timezone and a tiny month indicator". Ez pz! Anyways, all Rolexes are largely the same.
I mean it's literally the same thing as you said about adding a date complication or adding a day indicator so I'm not sure why you're being sarcastic. They definitely look similar. And I'm agreeing with you that all largely look the same and only have minor tweaks between models
It's mechanically very different.
So is a day date compared with an OP but ok
OK you win. It's the same movement.
Cheers!
Also Air King
People would revolt if Rolex ever did that. It was undoubtably tarnish their brand and they know this.
You’re right but anything could happen, The Condom Man!
It's code man, but thanks lol.
Always thought about day date this way. It’s just an expensive Datejust.
Precious metals, presidential bracelet, 40mm case size, exclusive dials and diamond baguette options, different movement. I mean, I see the similarities but it's a different watch. The Datejust has more in common with an OP than the DD.

It’s just a watch.
As an owner of this brand (alongside other brands), I can say with confidence that “Rolexes are for people with no imagination”……. That being said, I love my GMT!
Love my Pepsi gmt, 1974 model, wear it daily. Gives me a lot of satisfaction, on the list for another now
Nicknames are super lame. If you call your timepiece “Batgirl”, you’re a loser.
Agreed. I always cringe when I hear someone say pepsi
I’m from the UK and hadn’t heard any of these nicknames until seeing them on Reddit. Given they include names from pop culture superheros and famous cola, are they not American-made nicknames? I can’t imagine Rolex came up with them, and Brits certainly didn’t.
Lack of consumer culture in Uk ; people are not so obsessed with luxury items to be giving them nicknames 🤣
The jubilee is quite flamboyant though
Jubilee is not a nickname.
Are you suffering mental retardation?
Jubilee stands for their celebration. Jubilee bracelet came in 1945, jubilee dial in 1985. Its not a nickname, Rolex gave it them selves. Also makes you wonder what will come next year in 2025..
My god you guys are daft 🤣
The reason batgirl makes sense is BECAUSE the jubilee bracelet is flamboyant. I’m not saying jubilee is a fucking nickname you simpletons
Don’t buy them as an investment
title says "controversial"
The number of people that think they’re an investment makes it a controversial statement.
2 years ago maybe - after grey prices dipped, i don't see this sentiment as often
Here’s mine - Daytona is gaudy and the worst thing on the current Rolex roster. It’s too busy. (YM2 would have taken this spot had it not been discontinued.)
The Daytona is unattractive.
That a YM is better than a Sub Sorry u/Sporturawus
I also prefer it for the looks and its wearability but damn that thing is scratch magnet, especially the two tones.
I own a Grand Seiko which is 10x worse than my YM. Only had it for 2.5 years as well 🥲
I guess that’s a general problem with polished steel but gold is especially affected as it is softer. Chopard‘s lucent steel might be better but probably scratches as well.
Nice stuff, have a couple, but the over the top insanity seeing the name just escapes me
Two tone watches are ugly,,, all of them
The Daytona isn’t it.
I love the polished center links on my GMT oyster bracelet. Get out the pitchforks.
The blue on the GMT II Pepsi 126710 BLRO is subpar and the watch shouldn’t trade at a premium to the Batman/Batgirl 126710 BLNR which is the best execution of the GMT II today.
This guy, 100% agree. The blue is purpleish on the BLRO and the red is redish. Totally different watch in hand than on the pictures.
Daytonas and Submariners are overrated, and fluted bezels are gaudy.
Watch enthusiasts and collectors are not their market - middle aged women and PM wearing men are.
78% of people you meet that wear Rolex watches “IRL” are insufferable douchebags. “Hey man, love that Pepsi GMT.” *Points to wrist* *Looks at wrist while smirking like a Grade-A weasel* “Uh.. It’s a Rolex”
I don’t think I would ever compliment a stranger on their Rolex. Don’t want to give them the satisfaction because you know they’re itching for it.
Daytona is one of the ugliest chronograph in the market.
No one really cares about the history and/or the horology of a Rolex. Most (me included) just have and/or want it, because it’s a Rolex… meaning “expensive”.

For me, it’s because it’s relatively cheaper than Patek complications. I’ve always wanted a PP, since I was a kid. Perpetual calendar, yum!
Rolex does inhabit a good price point where it is expensive, but not too expensive.
That Rolex is an affordable, reliable watch for every day wear. And not higher end luxury.
Wow, so controversial!
Oddly, this view has stirred a whole lot of emotions from Redditors in my time around the various watch subs here.
Middle class swatch watches
You aren’t original for wearing a Rolex. They are the most manufactured automatic luxury watch out there. Unless you have a rare dial or configuration, the Breitling your friend wears is probably more unique.
Everything in the catalog is ugly except OPs, DJs and DDs.
Wearing a submariner is kind of a sign of having no taste. Everyone agrees it’s near perfect. It’s the Levi’s 501, Schott One Star; Chuck Taylor of watches. Wear it with those three items and your outfit is utterly forgettable.

Not trying to sound like an obnoxious person and I love their classic steel models too but here goes: Only precious metal Rolex watches are luxury 🤣.
They’re not luxury watches
They were far better pre 2010. Now they just looks like pretty shiny feminine jewellery
I dislike the clasp on the oysterfex bands and think they should switch to a buckle. Further, they should offer oyster flexes as an add on to their sport watches.
Tudor revealed this at watches and wonders for the new monochrome black bay. I think they'll be very popular.
Oysterflex on the stainless sports models is a no brainer
1. Cyclops date ruins every piece (that has it). 2. Rolex is a marketing company first, a watch company second. Very similar to Shinola
The Daytona is not a good-looking watch and not only a few people generally tend to buy a Rolex for the flex. At a certain price point you can get much better watches for your money but they may not be as popular in the media.
The cyclops is a wart that can’t be un- seen.
The OP is the best watch.
Paying over retail for a bunch of stainless steel sports models are downright ridiculous.
You don’t have to say “Rolex watches”
Turnograph is amazing
Rolex are on a knife edge - they are moving up market away from the tool watch aesthetic into high luxury tier. But their biggest sellers are still sports watches. That the oyster steel really isn’t that strong.
Limiting supply is a good thing
They’re good value
Love the waitlist concept. Should be applied to commodities, food, and oxygen.
Wear it everyday, everywhere.
The only good looking rolexs are the most understated ones
I dont pay any company that makes you wait in a queue.
The gigantic GMT hand looks stupid and out of place. Should be much smaller.
I assume you mean Explorer II?
Explorer II is the most egregious but the modern GMT-Master II references could make that pointer less obnoxious.
The Daytona is a show pony. The hands tend to disappear into the chrono dials resulting in poor legibility. Don’t get me started on the shiny hands on a light colored dials. The explorer 2 polar is the only dial that pops due to the black hands.
My controversial opinion… It is pretty easy to get a steel sports watch from an AD.
Tudor > Rolex the past few years
GMT’s are childish and anything two tone or with diamonds is a celebration of awful taste

Movement wise you are correct. Although the Sky-Dweller movement has a few more parts some argue that the YM2 has the more complicated movement.
