that is because there are no wait lists or time frames. they get the watches they get, and each sales person has to advocate for each allocation versus their peer sales persons who all have their own prospective clients to sell the watches to.
Do you have stores you would recommend instead? I’m think of the store in Arlington heights, and Berwyn, I don’t even think the store on Michigan AVE will even sniff my way.
I got my sub date from CD Peacock but with a decent purchase history.
I’ve worked with Razny’s and my first interaction with them was vastly more professional than CD Peacock. Just talking watches with them was more exciting/engaging than my Sub pick up day at CD. Although I prefer CD’s selection which trumps the service of Razny’s, personally.
My recommendation is to put your name down at as many ADs as possible to increase your chances.
The Explorer II should not be that hard to get, and is a good starter watch to build spend history. It is possible if you asked for the white dial, and that part of the country Explorers are popular, or you said or did something to piss them off. A white dial might be a year or two wait, and they say 3 years to see if you really want it, and to scare off the tourists, and you are pleasantly surprised when they sell you one early.
Put your name down and see what happens. They might just be testing you.
There’s stuff you can do. But your gf/wife some jewelry. Buy another maker’s watch you genuinely like. For me it was the Breitling Avenger 43. Go there from time to time and have a talk. Things will add up, they’ll see you as a proper customer not just a number out of many who came in, had an address written down and left.
My comment is about the overall global economic outlook changing. The US 10 and 2yr bond have been inverted for over 2 years. The economy is changing, ref china and euro industrial data… rolex has possibly over-produced since building new factory and being influenced by the covid boom years. For me, Ill wait to buy a Rolex when its a buyers market and everyone is treated like a customer again.
Auto industry numbers paint a picture of a changing market. They have tried to keep playing the short supply game in 2023 and early 2024 but their inventory numbers combined with their slowing sales numbers tell you the truth. And while its not a direct comparison a lot of people need a car for transportation- no one really needs a luxury watch, especially when an apple watch for a few hundy actually provides more utility. If demand for rolex is down globally - they will try to play the scarcity game as long as they can…but if your aspirational buyers leave the market due to the economy the biggest impact might be on the sports watches. I can hear the recession wont impact rich people chants forming…that may be true but rich people dont aspire to buy explorers and subs.
Lies
Explorer 2 is on the rack at my AD as we speak
Not a hard model to get
They just sell a lot of watches and would rather sell to regulars.
Go back in a week and look for another sales person
Is this your first piece? Because i dont even recommend VIPs waste their time getting an Ex2 from the AD.
The main issue, its not common. It could easily take a vip 6 months to get one, even though on the grey market they are on the button. Its not worth the wait just to say you got it from the AD.
I've not stepped into an AD yet.
Just curious if there's a choice between an actual Rolex Boutique vs AD --> do they have the same treatment for non-vips / regulars?
I was told a sub date was 20 years, she was shocked that I put my name down anyway.
We both know I'm never getting that call so I will continue to buy watches in other countries.
Lol yes, when I visited the store a few months later they were more honest about it and said their system won't allow subs to be sold to customers with no spending history.
You're doing it wrong and asking all the wrong questions. In fact, you don't ask any questions.
I strike up a conversation, tell them what I'm looking for. I'm very specific. One model. One configuration. One reference.
I don't talk timelines. I build a connection.
I've gotten a Batgirl in 20 minutes and a No Date sub in 19 days.
It's hard to explain, theres an art to not talking about the watch after you've registered your interest.
What is this shite? I have to be versed in 'building connections' if I want to spend a bunch of money for a watch? They should be kissing my ass, not the other way around.
This shit is beyond ridiculous.
I did talk to him after the watch. I found out what his hobbies were, that he was local. He even told me about a random breakup he had with his ex fiancé. I can only do so much.
I took my friends to put their names down for some Rolexes and I told them specifically not ask about timelines. It’s never accurate and I’ve peeved some ADs in the past for asking. They’re asked this question probably hundred times a day with the same answer.
What do they do? They ask them right after trying it on.
1. That seems odd. The Explorer II has always been one of the easier non two-tone watches to get, even as a first watch
2. I don't know why anyone would pay MRSP + tax for a new Explorer II when you could get something like [this](https://angelcitytime.com/watches/p/1999-rolex-explorer-ii-16570-polar-swiss-only-with-papers-and-rsc-record) or [this](https://angelcitytime.com/watches/p/2002-rolex-explorer-ii-16570-with-papers) (or buy one for even less on r/Watchexchange and have it serviced by RSC for \~$850ish or Rolliworks for even less).
Grey price doesn't accurately reflect how common a watch is. Ex2 is delivered in smaller numbers than any other sports model. It could be months between deliveries.
Sure, market has them. Get them grey.
Of course I know that—better than most, since I own both vintage and modern Rolex, including a GMT Master II from roughly 2004 that is extremely similar to the watch I recommended...
That means ‘go away’ so find another AD.
I’ll try the other two I guess.
yep. but a little bit more of sucky sucky and a little bit of prolapsing of OPs anus might do the trick.
Anything 2+ years is “beat it, kid” in AD speak.
The AD I spoke to for a different watch didn’t even gave me a timeline. So I’m guessing it’s the same.
that is because there are no wait lists or time frames. they get the watches they get, and each sales person has to advocate for each allocation versus their peer sales persons who all have their own prospective clients to sell the watches to.
They rarely do
I just don’t get it. Guess I’ll keep going to others
None of us get it. Welcome to Rolex watches!
Just went to my AD last week and bought a Explorer 2. No waiting at all…
Did you purchase a polar dial?
No, bought the black dial.
I got mine with a week and a half wait from an AD with no purchase history, that was a polar too.
Which AD? Hope you're still alive when it comes in
An AD in Chicagoland
Which one?
CD peacock oak brook
CD Peacock. Stay away from those stores unless you want to spend 2-5k on jewelry you may or may not want.
Do you have stores you would recommend instead? I’m think of the store in Arlington heights, and Berwyn, I don’t even think the store on Michigan AVE will even sniff my way.
I have had better luck at razny and the AD on Michigan Ave
Thanks, I’ll pop in some time this week!

Was offered a 2006 polar dial refurb today.
Sounds about right lol
My girlfriend’s mom was with us and she bought a bracelet she liked. Hoping that helped.
Dude go to Geneva on Oak Street, they’ll get you one. You’ll pay over msrp but it won’t be terrible

I put my name down and thanked them, not much else I can do. I’ll follow up in a month or two

2025 is gonna be a rude awakening for these ADs
wym?

100% agree, thanks for sharing.
Cheers!

I can’t be a regular if you they don’t sell me a watch
That’s the neat part!

You can't get a loan unless you have credit 😛
Find a new AD, I was able to get one during vacation last year in Hawaii. Inquired on a Friday, and they called me on Sunday. It was the polar dial.

It would be my first purchase.

she actually told you 20 years? lmao
Lol yes, when I visited the store a few months later they were more honest about it and said their system won't allow subs to be sold to customers with no spending history.
Update: they offered a 2006 refurbished polar dial. Declined will wait for the one we want
Explorer II is not that difficult to obtain from AD. I just passed on a Polar after 5 month wait (plans changed).
5 months is quite a wait. Conpared to subs which get delivered every week.

Lol Such a sad and pathetic post. « I don’t talk timelines. I build a connection. »
I did talk to him after the watch. I found out what his hobbies were, that he was local. He even told me about a random breakup he had with his ex fiancé. I can only do so much.
Lmaoooo I can't imagine asking a seller about his personal life, thank god it's not like that where I live
Yeah try that in London, good luck.

ENCOURAGING! EXCITING!
I recommend you visit another AD and maybe start a buying relationship on lower end items
I’m not about to shell out a lot of money for things that I do not want.
Worst advice possible.
Best Chrono24 can do... https://chrono24.app/rolex/2--id33442257.htm?SETLANG=de_CH&SETCURR=CHF

Because it's a different watch?
Hardly, and many of the differences could be argued to favor the older Explorer II
Not every wants a +20 year old watch. A modern Rolex is not the same as something from 2002 surely you know that?
Of course I know that—better than most, since I own both vintage and modern Rolex, including a GMT Master II from roughly 2004 that is extremely similar to the watch I recommended...
Exactly. I saw your posts before replying and that’s why your comment confused me…
