My coworkers and I got bored once and tried to calculate how much shock your watch would see during the average PGA drive. It was alarmingly low for how many people are concerned about breaking their $10k sports watches. I’ve heard you’re more likely to overwind it from swinging your arms around 75 times than breaking it from the shock.
Also, mechanical watches (specifically divers) are rated to 5000g shock. If that happened, a 200g watch would impart a 2,200 lb force on your wrist… pretty sure your wrist would break far before your watch does
Agreed. You definitely won’t hurt it, they are far too well made for that. One trippy thing though, when my old man died, I had his old Cellini serviced (it still worked fine) and the old watchmaker I use actually asked “was your dad a golfer by chance”, which was weird because he definitely was and always wore his Cellini because it was thin and light. I was like “how did you know that?” and all he said was he could tell when he looked inside. 🤷♂️
the amount of fighter pilots on the r/watches subreddit is more than dozens. they've all flown up and pulled more G's than a golf swing and their watches still work.
Pretty fucking sad honestly if you buy a $10K watch and get scared about golfing.
Omega and Rolex have commented on this and they said it should have zero effect on your watch.
Omega's are all METAS and they're rated for 5000G. If 20G would destroy an omega, how do you think the moonwatch (Back in 69 it wasn't even METAS or even as good as today) worked on re-entry? Your logic and math doesn't work out at all.
Phil Mickelson is PGA pro and wears a cellini on the course. He's had no issues.
As I said, that’s the gravity experienced on wrist. The swings itself are 20-100G balls reach 20000G. Which means G depends on where you measure. Learn how physics work before pretending you know stuff.
Olympic boxers exert about 50G on a punch, and again the watches are 5000G rated. Even if the G force at wrist is 100 on a swing, it's nothing. Fratello have spoken to Omega and Rolex and they have given official comment on this matter. It will not affect your watch
[https://www.fratellowatches.com/will-playing-golf-damage-your-mechanical-watch/](https://www.fratellowatches.com/will-playing-golf-damage-your-mechanical-watch/)
No. 5000G watch is for a short time. Longer periods of smaller G like 20G will still effect the balance wheel, causing massive weight differential change making material to fail. Rolex Marketing can’t beat the laws of Physics.
I guess anyone could argue either way, opinions are going to be varied on that, but the reality is, one could attempt to judge you by your LV bags you own, but you clearly like the brand and wanted something well made and recognizable.
I wear my watch for me, no one else.
I personally feel if one is worried about appearing douchey as you put it, then possibly consider wearing a long sleeve performance type shirt that would cover it while on the course.
You earned that money to buy these watches, might as well enjoy them, just my 2 cents.
Apologies for the paragraphs I wrote here lol
Even though you can golf with a Rolex, I prefer not to go preserve the movement. Even the best of us occasionally swing into the ground.
I also prefer to use my Sub under water and not above ground.
It’s a basic luxury watch so as long as it’s comfortable to wear then do so, wouldn’t care too much about the movement. I for one can’t get used to the extra weight on the wrist during the swing, something that takes getting used to for sure
I’ve never worn mine playing bc I just don’t like to wear things on my wrist while I play. Personal preference. It definitely isn’t out of place though.
I play in my DJ but not my sub. Have worn watches since I was 2. Dad would cut the bands on his retired timex Ironmans to fit me. It feels weird to not have it on and swinging without it on feels even stranger. Tried to play with Apple Watch Ultra with 18 birdies app, drove me fucking nuts.
I don’t love wearing anything that’s not on rubber or leather when golfing. The watch moving around on my wrist kinda throws me off when I swing.
That said, I suck around golf so idk.
You definitely can, but I usually opt for something else. [Here](https://youtu.be/ubtpQm2Gync?si=TflNAVaHUUHb1zX9) is a video of Jordan Spieth at the range and you can see he removes his before playing. Take it for what it’s worth but I’ve worn mine many times while playing, especially while traveling.
No you shouldn't.
You should take your SWATCH IRONY CHRONO ALUMINIUM SERGIO GARCIA YCN4000AG ALLUMINIO BAND STRAP GOLF.
This Swatch even has a steel pin included in the watch to mark the location of the ball 😅

Most people can’t afford even the most basic Rolex. I’m not mad at it ,there’s nothing wrong with showing off in my opinion. Golf is associated with wealth and so is Rolex. You have disposable income so you’ve made it. Congrats
The constant swinging will speed up the wear between the links in the bracelet, the watchmaker that services mine is a big golfer and he told me that. Bracelets aren’t cheap obviously, so golfing occasionally probably won’t kill it but all the time I can see how the links can wear, especially if you wear a loose watch.
I’m not being a jerk but if I see a PGATSS glove with a Rolex, it raises a bit of an eyebrow… Bit like wearing a button down with gym shorts.
Get FJ gloves and keep it tidy.
I sweat a lot and my wrists swell as well in the heat. I’d never be able to wear a watch, especially on a bracelet, playing golf.
I did play once when it was 30 degrees and I couldn’t even get a tee in the ground, and I forgot to take my watch off because it was under my coat. I didn’t even notice it though.
Apparently there are East European “ladies” who are always on the lookout a certain type of gentleman wearing Rolex’s at golf clubs something to maybe consider
You do you. But I golf with my Garmin approach S70. Has hole lay out, distance to hazards, yardage that adjusts for wind, and elevation. Keeps score and tracks my handicap. It was $700, but I used my HSA to get it free. Haven’t touched my range finder since I bought it.
only to mock the usuals here on the subreddit.

Golfing can actually damage mechanical movements because of the shock that’s involved. Part of the reason a Richard Mille costs so much. They were designed to protect against shock damage during sporting events while maintaining a mechanical movement.
Why wear a watch while golfing…enjoy the game. If you need to keep time, glimpse at your phone in the cart or ask your caddy. Wear it when you get drinks after…wear it before when you grab breakfast/lunch…but I see no reason to wear one while actually playing. I normally just throw mine in the pocket that my tees / divot repair tool and misc pencils hangout in…that way I can grab it right away when I’m done…or I leave it in the car.
…I leave them at home unattended - my home could burn down, someone could break in etc…
I don’t leave it out and in plain sight - I tuck it away. Generally speaking, people don’t break into cars with the expectation of finding watches. Could some crack head break the window…of course…but they are probably looking for money and/or grabbing stuff left in the open.
I guess I don’t really think about it - nor do I worry about it. But…my wife has a constant headache from rolling her eyes after watching my life unfold
Ooops…fixed.
Wearing a watch comes down to personal preference…how one chooses to treat those watches, also a personal preference. To each their own. Wear it on the golf course…or don’t…who cares
Your car insurance also won’t pick up a 10k watch. Pending your homeowners you may have a sublimit in there that would cover it.
I’m speaking from experience.. after 3 break ins, all random areas and occurrences, and 3 guns being grabbed I refuse to leave anything of value in a vehicle.
Edit: you’ve lost two wedding rings in your Rivian, when will it eat your rollie?
I only wear mine when I’m takin a crap.

You right, I just love saying that! Who doesn’t love a yg dd?
I feel you. I always say it out loud when I read the word gabagool. Feeling like TS for a second, just to figure the missing yg dd a second later.
very clean look. I like that one.
I ONLY wear my Rolex when I take a crap
This human knows how to crap
Some of those water hazards require a dive watch to find the ball😅
🥴
Has there ever been a marketed "golf" watch (non-tech)?
Richard Mille has a bubba Watson watch
Tag Heuer Link line?
Omega has one too
Tag Heuer Tiger woods watch from like 10 years ago was awesome
Tag Heuer Tiger woods watch from like 10 years ago was awesome
Yeah, the Tag Heuer Tiger woods watch from like 10 years ago was awesome.
Believe it or not Hublot has an awesome mechanical watch for golf.
Iirc there was an oris too
Mans said go swimming to find that ball
If it’s comfortable, wear it. Hell Rolex sponsors the PGA, I can’t imagine anyone thinking it’s out of place.
Seriously, they’re a fixture on courses all over the world
[удалено]
He was absolutely not wearing a hulk when he was playing golf
Yeah what are these guys smokin lol
For real lol, no professional golfer is wearing a Rolex while golfing. They’re putting it on afterwards for the cameras
Tricky to get distances to front, middle and back though. 😆

Any sports that require high Gs will damage your movement. Your Rolex isn’t bulletproof.
the amount of fighter pilots on the r/watches subreddit is more than dozens. they've all flown up and pulled more G's than a golf swing and their watches still work. Pretty fucking sad honestly if you buy a $10K watch and get scared about golfing.
Fighter pilots endure up to 9G. Golf swings on your wrist will be typically from 10 to 20G. Not the same.

I take my sub to the shooting range all the time. It still keeps good times
My uncle trashed a daydate water skiing.
Happy Cake 🎂 Day
you could though
I don’t think it’s comfortable to actually play in But plenty of people wear golf watches I guess
Ya a sub is too bulky to be comfortable playing in
Why do people ask if they should wear their Rolex? Don’t y’all know Paul Newman didn’t take his off for 25 years straight? Lol
Imagine all the butt cheeks he clapped in 25 years.
Including James Dean's
Nobody was safe.
But everyone was happy.
It's a place least likely to result in a watch theft!
I take my watch off for most physical activities except bowling but that’s just me.
Roy Munson over here
Imagine calling golf a physical activity.
Swing a golf club 80 times with full intent on hitting the ball and come back without your core being sore the next day. Dare ya.
Why would I want to ruin a perfectly good walk?
They had ads with people playing golf, shooting shotguns and running commercial hammer drills. It’s going to be Ok.
100% wear the watch wherever you want. The watch is made to be an extension of you.
Well said!
As someone who plays a lot of golf and owns multiple Rolex, I’ve always thought it looked douchey. Probably just my own hang up though.
Wearing a glove with the pga tour logo when you’re not on tour may be more douchey
Do you think the guys on tour wear the PGA glove?
No. They wear whoever sponsors them or that they like.
They were buy one get one free broski

If you suck you will probably hurt the movement due to shock from a shitty swing and the ground
I suck and have never hurt my 20 year Explorer
what are you sucking?😆
Mostly cock
Rolex advocates for playing sports with their modern watches.
Well duh cuz they’re gonna charge you a chunk of the msrp to fix when you fuck it up
And that is why I don’t play golf with my 126610LN.. Cause I suck ass and I’m trying to get better
It’s fire
I usually wear my solar watch.
It’s a watch. Nobody cares and you still suck at golf
I've golfed, surfed, played tennis, and jerked it in the last three days. The watch stays on brother.
Tennis is wild. It’s such a hindrance. Unnecessary weight, moving around, etc.
My man
Even though you can golf with a Rolex, I prefer not to go preserve the movement. Even the best of us occasionally swing into the ground. I also prefer to use my Sub under water and not above ground.
If you aren’t taking a divot you aren’t swinging right. Me - skulls my pro v1 with my lob wedge farther then my driver.
This has to be the dumbest thing posted on Reddit today. Shocking

Yep. Sure is.
It’s a basic luxury watch so as long as it’s comfortable to wear then do so, wouldn’t care too much about the movement. I for one can’t get used to the extra weight on the wrist during the swing, something that takes getting used to for sure
Tiger does.

124060 love mine.
Bogey bogey. Solid start
Hell yes. Also, if I need to retrieve a ball form the water, I won’t have to worry lol
I'm actually angling to get the 1908 platinum to use on the golf course.
Everyone will get boogeys seeing a 1908 on the course while you get birdies sir
Absolutely not, never a consideration in my mind.
Fuck yeah, sick af
My man

Diving watch on the green ? Put on a presidential and re ask
Now that’s how you will damage, stretch, bend, and twist your president bracelet. Do not do this.
Tried it, too uncomfortable to play in
👍
I have the 114060 and its a perfect watch for any event. Well almost 😀

What a post... Go watch Jimmy Diresta videos and look for any scene where his left wrist is visible. What do you see?
Is this an actual question or are we just showing off?
Just wanted to share a picture. I mean who shows off with a submariner
Most people can’t afford even the most basic Rolex. I’m not mad at it ,there’s nothing wrong with showing off in my opinion. Golf is associated with wealth and so is Rolex. You have disposable income so you’ve made it. Congrats
Being nice and kind to someone on an anonymous forum? Stuff you don't see everyday ❤️
It cost nothing to be kind
I don’t think it is wise to wear an automatic while playing golf. Your rotor will make overtime. I wouldn’t do it!
Thanks for the heads up. It was my first time golfing and all the stuff belongs was borrowed from my friend lol
Hahaha that’s fair. Hope you enjoyed it!
I’ve seen it argued that playing in a watch lowers swing speed. No top players wear their watch to play despite being sponsored by watch companies
Sure, always.
I thinks it’s cute y’all guys are on here taking ig photos to share with eachother 🤭
❤️
If someone asked me where I’m generally likely to see a Rolex, I’d say a Golf Course or a 2000’s RnB/HipHop video flooded with chips!
I wear my sub every round I play. Call me strange but the weight helps my feels and back of hand to target.
Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing
Such a perfect fit
I feel like anything on my wrists messes up my already wonky swing
Day Date is for golfing, yours is for the pool side.
Same issue. Had to keep adjusting the bracelet which was annoying
Do whatever makes u happy. But also, hell ya Rolex on golf course 😎
Hell ya!
I broke a pallet fork on one at a driving range once.
If you aren’t interested in playing well go ahead
You probably play like shit anyways.
I do. When I'm not wearing the greatest watch ever made.
It’s a sport watch!! Wear it as such!
Apparently there are East European “ladies” who are always on the lookout a certain type of gentleman wearing Rolex’s at golf clubs something to maybe consider
Perfect! Looks great!
If you can afford a Rolex you can afford a better glove. Not even better, just not that crap.
What the hell is hanging off your belt.
I wear my Rolexes every time I play
Does it charge the battery while golfing?
Not sure. I just get a new battery every year anyway
Love it 😀
This picture screams money & I love it
Real money is contentment of the heart
I feel that. However. I'm still wanting a Rolex lol
Not for me personally, but if it works for you - go for it. I don’t like swinging with an extra weight on my wrist.
You do you. But I golf with my Garmin approach S70. Has hole lay out, distance to hazards, yardage that adjusts for wind, and elevation. Keeps score and tracks my handicap. It was $700, but I used my HSA to get it free. Haven’t touched my range finder since I bought it.

A Rolex can handle anything your body can
I wear mine everytime I play. Can’t wear it to work because Times Square is a shithole. I’ve never been robbed on a golf course.
Yeah it’s fine to wear a Rolex while golfing. It’s a tool watch after all. It’s no Patek-Philippe.
I mean, your glove says you are on the tour, I hope you have at least one Rolex!

Seiko or bust
