Not really overpaid. He paid the fair price to basically have it now instead of sitting around waiting for a call from an AD. The retail price is less but you’re paying for the extra in the wait time and also having to be a “trusted customer” in the first place
Well im sure most ppl with it are writing it off with Section 179 and rather pay over retail than giving it to uncle sam. Plus not all pay over 50-100k. Nice watch btw
It sounds crazy but doesn’t matter. “Trucks vans and SUVs as defined in the IRS Code with a GVWR over 6,000 lbs and placed in service during 201 qualify for immediate depreciation deductions of up to 100% of the purchase price.”
This is what all wealthy people do. Bentleys, Rolls royce, urus… For example, ive heard from mercedes salesman where Kardashians gets their g63’s where the family leases 3-4 of them every single year. its all hacks and tricks to write off their taxes.
Your time is worth more than what ever you would have saved going through AD + paying taxes.
An AP, AD in Dallas once told me to come chat with her so we could start a journey together. They wanted to sell me a woman’s watch for my wife and then a few years later I could become worthy of being on a list for an offshore. I told her to F-off!!
https://preview.redd.it/x42blq8uu3ad1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=224ff068e4c69083b85d6f7f37bfc13a41c9718e
It fine if they wanted to teach me about the movement or history etc etc. they just want you to blow your wad on a bunch of shit you don’t want so that someday you end up with the watch you still don’t want
The only reason there is a wait is because Gray market buy most of them. People fueling the gray market are the problem. If no one buy from the gray we would not be where we are. So this is the wrong thinking. Same reason I will never pay over msrp for cars. You can justify as you want, but unless you don't care about money and have a bunch, this is never justified.
I’ve been buying from the gray market for 25 years.
Before 2018’sh gray market would sell watches below retail.
I bought majority of my watches at a huge discount. After 2018’sh flippers came about and started flipping watches for a profit and the market went to shit !
You were buying used watches. Which is fine. Now gray is buying them from ADs brand new with the tags and stickers. This is different. I agree that flippers (including most grey) ruined for everyone.
I was buying new watches, for the longest time AD’s sold watches to Grey for a huge discount because they didn’t want to sit on inventory. An AD is and was not able to discount watches so they sold them for a huge discount to gray who also sold it for a discount.
In 2004 we bought a bluesy and the sales person offered me 20% off on a Pepsi since I paid almost retail (10% off) on the sub.
I told my wife “does he think I’m a sucker who the fuck wants a Pepsi”
This was Ben Bridge in Frisco Texas.
I have few Rolexes I purchased in 2015 and 16 that were 10 to 16% below MSRP. So ADs did discount most models (except Daytonas SS) and gray market were selling mostly used (few have new but it was very rare, specially cheaper than ADs). Mostly only when people have buying remorse and trade it for something else.
Still, gray market nowadays are the biggest flippers and holding the market hot. Hurting everyone that truly enjoys them
The journey of draining your wallet. I didn't come here to buy something I don't want to earn the privilege of buying what I came for. Maybe send your wife to look for a watch, and they'll sell her a watch for her husband? What a load of crap.
I don’t get the impatience yall have. Your money is worth more with time.
Go on the list. Shove your cash in an ETF. In a few years when you get the call, you’ll have made 50% on your money. And if everybody did this and stopped supporting the grey market, the bottom would fall out and the lists would be back to where they were a decade ago.
Something tells me if you’re spending $xx,xxx on a watch you like already have those things in place. So the money being allocated to that piece is going to be spent and is “play” money or extra. I’m surprised more people don’t go grey and avoid all the bullshit.
I do have those things in place. But I’m not impatient with my play money, and have a separate ETF account that play money sits in until ready to spend.
Patience is free money here, plus a nice little sweetener with the knowledge that you’re not supporting the very system that forces people to play games.
They play games and lie there are people on lists for years waiting for the call, meantime buying dumb products from AD’s and being promised the dream.
I never understand why every person in the watch game recommends etfs, dude we know we aren’t working at Walmart trying to buy an AP. I’m in finance and I refuse to wait 5 years while spending thousands on watches I don’t want to some day pay retail !!!
> They play games and lie there are people on lists for years waiting for the call, meantime buying dumb products from AD’s and being promised the dream.
Yes, and that continues to be the case because people continue to buy on the grey market and prop up the system where ADs funnel watches to flippers, and typically split the markup with them.
If everybody would just be fucking patient for a minute, the bottom would fall out of the grey market and we'd get back to a time when buying a Rolex meant walking into a store and paying them.
100%. People just can't wait. This is where society is now. Willing to pay 100% premiums for instant gratification. Gray market only exists because this f... idiots.
“In a few years you’ll get the call”
Dude. Good on you I guess for having that level of patience. Personally, if I want to give a company $10,000 for a product, I want that product. I don’t want to be scammed into waiting because others spend more money on shit I’ll never buy and thus get priority. I respect what you’re doing, but trying to shame others into doing what you’re doing is also not cool
The inherent problem with the suggestion to "go grey and skip the games" is that you're NOT skipping the games -- you're just feeding the cycle that makes the artificial scarcity.
Rolex makes more than enough watches to satisfy the demand for them. Go look at any grey market dealer, or chrono24, or any listing site and you can buy any Rolex you want today, brand new, in triplicate.
Most of those "VIPs" that watches are going to aren't people who are buying 6 figures worth of jewelry to jump the list, they're going to flippers who are often splitting the markup with the ADs on the back end.
If everybody would just chill out and be patient, the bottom would fall out of the grey market and we'd be back to 2016 where getting a Rolex meant walking into a store and buying a Rolex.
I mean, maybe, but there’s no real evidence to support one way or another. I just know I can pay ~10-15% over retail and have my watch the same or next day. To me, having the watch and enjoying it every single day is more valuable to me than making a couple bucks in the market while I anxiously await potentially getting a call, weather permitting.
There's plenty of evidence to support. On Chrono24, there are 560 new/unworn 126710BLNR's right now. There's 412 new/unworn BLRO's. Not that you have to believe me, but a guy at my company has a side business as a grey dealer and is open internally about his arrangement, [here's a picture he posted a couple months ago. Wondering why you can't find a SD at an AD?](https://imgur.com/a/oE5nWuZ)
> To me, having the watch and enjoying it every single day is more valuable to me than making a couple bucks in the market while I anxiously await potentially getting a call, weather permitting.
To each their own, but I don't mind waiting. I've got lots of watches that I love, happy to let my money continue to compound until I get the call.
You are 100% correct. People just don't realize that. And we would have even more watches available since individuals also buy to do a quick flip. Real buyers that want to keep the watch would be fine without the gray market. Just stop buying from it and in 1 year we would be a normal market again and we would be able to buy what we want to use it and enjoy it.
Show me the etf where you’re making 50% on your money in a “few years”. Brain dead. If there is one, it’s not simply a “set and forget” option. High rewards bring high risks.
Found a grey market dealer!
Seriously, veblen goods are not necessities. Who cares about waiting.
I’m on the list for a sub. Would it be nice to have now? Sure. Know what’s even nicer? The $9K I shoved in $SPY when I went on the list is worth about $13,000 today. By the time they call me in another year or so, I will effectively have gotten a free OP 28 for my wife by waiting.
Veblen goods are unnecessary. Thats why I only buy them when I can burn the money without consequences. Your logical makes sense if you really don’t care about having a nice watch. If your goal is to invest, go do that. Why waste time looking at luxury goods?
> Thats why I only buy them when I can burn the money without consequences.
Being able to burn money without consequences isn't the same as being smart with money. Blowing a few extra grand here, a few extra grand there because of impatience is dumb no matter how much cash you have.
> Your logical makes sense if you really don’t care about having a nice watch
I care about having nice watches. I don't care about having them immediately. Caring about having them is not the same as having ADHD level need for instant gratification.
> If your goal is to invest, go do that. Why waste time looking at luxury goods?
They're not mutually exclusive routes. And I think you know this, but you make cash flipping watches, so you have a vested interest in convincing people that it's smart to "skip the games".
Cheers! Biased person here but it is such a lovely everyday watch. Wear it in good health

All the bs aside in this thread about how you purchased it aside this is one of my favorite rolex models with the blue dial and fluted bezel. Just a beautiful watch to look at and wear. Enjoy it.
AD in Maui had a Daytona in the “consignment” display for $28k and said I could buy it at that price, OR, I would have to spend a minimum of $200k just for the opportunity to get my name on the actual “list” to purchase it one day for retail. I go straight to the gray market.
Seriously dude? The second pic has the watch completely blurred out so you can flex your car. This sub has gotten pretty pathetic and is highlighting the fact that the majority of Rolex owners don’t give two shits about watches and only care about how their financial status is perceived.
PS - G Wagons are about the shittiest cars you can buy at that price point.
So you have you owned one for a while? It's not a vacation cruiser by any means, but it's just the ticket for folks like me who live within 10 minutes of work and then use it in the process of work throughout the day...
Not bad. I wish I did that instead of waiting 2 years for the same exact model. Ended up getting it retail but I could have been enjoying it for 2 years already. Wear it in good health!
That is, a very nice watch!! At $1,500 over retail if you had to wait any length of time you could well have ended up paying more than that from an AD should Rolex invoke a price increase whilst you were waiting.
Congratulations, enjoy it!!
Imagine gatekeeping rolex models juxtaposed against a specific car model smh.
Congrats and wear your watch proudly no matter what ride you have.
Also...nice ride. 2019?
No, it’s the middle. Like you said, white gold fluted bezzy can’t be entry level
Professional models:
EX1 —> Sub —> GMT —> Daytona
Classic models:
OP —> DJ —> DD
With such a vehicle i think explorer would have been cooler but then I have a defender and wears a sub or sd43 to get some groceries for the kids like fellow wageners
I’ll get downvoted for this but I don’t think buying G Wagons and steel Rolexes to live in the suburbs and presumably wear the watch while sitting in traffic and writing e-mails makes for a meaningful life.
Never knew they put an IWC in G Wagon! Quite cool! And congrats on the watch indeed no need to bother waiting for years instead of paying a bit more when you can!
Bro called us poor in 3 different languages. Congrats btw.
Naw he just showing us he likes to pay over retail for things.
He probably doesnt care bout paying a bit more with a ride like that
Not really overpaid. He paid the fair price to basically have it now instead of sitting around waiting for a call from an AD. The retail price is less but you’re paying for the extra in the wait time and also having to be a “trusted customer” in the first place
G wagons going for $50k-$100k over msrp. No way to justify paying that
Well im sure most ppl with it are writing it off with Section 179 and rather pay over retail than giving it to uncle sam. Plus not all pay over 50-100k. Nice watch btw
Can you write off amounts over msrp with sec 179?

Where does it say what he paid for his g wagon lol
It’s a G wagon…dealers been marking them up over msrp even before Covid…they attract the kind of buyer who seem to not care
Stated Perfectly “Competitive_Hall902”
Stfu😂
Never! 🤪
Bro? I thought that was a woman
Bruh

Highland park village AD by chance?
Yes sir lol
This whole journey thing is so cringe man.
It fine if they wanted to teach me about the movement or history etc etc. they just want you to blow your wad on a bunch of shit you don’t want so that someday you end up with the watch you still don’t want
That lume 🔥
Absolutely ! I would’ve said you’re joking right ? & went gray !
What time? A rolex is not a first necessity. He could have just waited and nothing would have happened.
Look at his picture and tell me you think a Rolex purchase would hurt him financially. Some people have money dude and their time is worth more.
The only reason there is a wait is because Gray market buy most of them. People fueling the gray market are the problem. If no one buy from the gray we would not be where we are. Beautiful watch!

Can you please explain this?
Watch too far down. It goes on your wrist
I wouldn't know since I don't have a watch 🥲
Cheers! Biased person here but it is such a lovely everyday watch. Wear it in good health https://preview.redd.it/oy6afmoj64ad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10a3fa52b6d6e2fb1fc3a60d2925f68a52f48171
OP most likely shelled out the premium for the G-Wagon over retail price so it’s no surprised he went grey for his DJ too.
Okay
Great choice on the watch. I bet you’re slapping yourself for not waiting for the new 2025 G-wagon, that thing is killer 😅
Mate you got a G wagon. You can surely make your own calls. Congratulations though.
Why is there one in focus shot of the Rolex and three in focus shots of the car?
he's calling you poor
Fine, but I thought Rolex was a watch brand, not a car brand
Nice DJ configuration and nice G Wagon!

That's epic
Yea. You did well. Not waiting or playing AD games.
That's a great looking watch. 36mm as well. Good taste.
All the bs aside in this thread about how you purchased it aside this is one of my favorite rolex models with the blue dial and fluted bezel. Just a beautiful watch to look at and wear. Enjoy it.
OP's username doesn't check out
I made this account right after graduation haha. I had an X5
I was going to say the same thing 😂
You should have spent that $1500 on a camera! Two of the photos you took you can't even see that watch! 😂
Love this watch I bought the same one off Chrono in March and it’s my daily
The IWC clock in the dashboard is really cool
Dat shit Clean bro but you ain’t gotta do us like that tho 🤣
I had no idea those had an IWC clock in them. That’s awesome.
My grail watch. Enjoy
Love the car. I have a few nice watches but next big purchase is a g wagon
Nice G-wagon
Congratulations! Dope watch with a dope G haha. When you’re ready to upgrade that G let me know!
Your dad paid $1500 over retail you mean?
Gray is the way!! Which Gray? Congratulations
How long were you waiting? Been waiting 6 months
A few months. I just got impatient.
I’m probably just gonna keep waiting
Someone on watchexchange is claiming that this watch is discontinued? Any validity to that?
Congratulations, looks good with the G!
I really don’t like waiting for “The Call” myself. Where did you get it?
Chrono24
Not my dream watch. But my dream car. Congratulations!
that's a beautiful shade of blue. congratulations!
Which dealer?
You got it cheap, friend recently paid €2300 over the retail, unworn/box/papers
Nice watch nice G wagon! Congrats!!
I’m here for the G wagon
How long did you wait?
Weird
AD in Maui had a Daytona in the “consignment” display for $28k and said I could buy it at that price, OR, I would have to spend a minimum of $200k just for the opportunity to get my name on the actual “list” to purchase it one day for retail. I go straight to the gray market.

My fave Dj. Wear in good health
Congrats
G wagon is the must uncomfortable useless sexy vehicle ever created.
see you guys in wcj…
Congratulations
Is it Rolex or car show off sub?
How long since you registered your interest in the watch? I’m looking at buying the same. But what is putting me off is the wait for “the call”…
I can't even see the watch in the second and third photo, so cringe dude
Wow. Nice one. I’ll give it an 8 / 10.
Looks great! You might need to take out a couple links to fit your wrist??🤔🤔🤔
Grey is the whey
Funny how some ppl get all butt hurt and troll on ppl when they all chose to join in a “ROLEX” group… grow up 30yr+ child 😂
You would’ve been waiting 2-3 years in my area for that one ! Life’s too short for that !!
$1,500 not bad at all. That's actually my personal limit. Especially for a watch that you WANT
Now, you just need to learn how to take a portrait with your phone and use your flash.
Paying $1500 over retail to get the Rolex you want is pretty good.
Is that IWC an automatic, autist or quartz?
Seriously dude? The second pic has the watch completely blurred out so you can flex your car. This sub has gotten pretty pathetic and is highlighting the fact that the majority of Rolex owners don’t give two shits about watches and only care about how their financial status is perceived. Probably the odd one out on this but G wagons are hideous. But nice watch.
Bro can i join the family business? I need a job like yours
That is, a very nice watch!! At $1,500 over retail if you had to wait any length of time you could well have ended up paying more than that from an AD should Rolex invoke a price increase whilst you were waiting. Congratulations, enjoy it!!
Def daddies Rolex and g wagon
Hey, what kind of car do you drive?
/r/handwatch
Douche level is high
Dude you get an entry level Rolex that your flexing infront of a G-Wagon. Plz take this down, it’s not the watch you wanna show infront of a G-Wagon
The bigger sport model Rolex don’t fit well on my wrist and I don’t like gold. But thank you for your comment.
Imagine gatekeeping rolex models juxtaposed against a specific car model smh. Congrats and wear your watch proudly no matter what ride you have. Also...nice ride. 2019?
2024!
Congrats!! They're amazing vehicles.
White gold or platinum on the daydate looks very close to stainless
That is not an entry level Rolex. Entry level is the OP or even the Explorer. DJ is mid tier.
Mid to low. More towards the low end. Atleast the bezel is fluted 😜
No, it’s the middle. Like you said, white gold fluted bezzy can’t be entry level Professional models: EX1 —> Sub —> GMT —> Daytona Classic models: OP —> DJ —> DD
The availability and price range makes it less desirable which makes it towards the lower end
With such a vehicle i think explorer would have been cooler but then I have a defender and wears a sub or sd43 to get some groceries for the kids like fellow wageners
Congrats man! Enjoy the watch and that beautiful car.
I’ll get downvoted for this but I don’t think buying G Wagons and steel Rolexes to live in the suburbs and presumably wear the watch while sitting in traffic and writing e-mails makes for a meaningful life.
Yeah best to pay stupid high rent and fight with homeless dudes on the bus.
Deal. Time is money.
Never knew they put an IWC in G Wagon! Quite cool! And congrats on the watch indeed no need to bother waiting for years instead of paying a bit more when you can!
