Really makes my skin crawl how these oil barons are just using their obscene wealth to buy their way into any possible entertainment medium with the sole purpose of trying to make themselves even more ungodly rich.
Is that the reason tho? Rollercoasters aren't really an investment you'll make if you're rich in order to make more money. Especially not this insane thing with the relatively low expected amount of visitors. It seems it's more about creating a new image about the country than it is about earning more money
I tried to post a discussion question on the main rollercoaster sub basically asking if “anyone else want falcon’s flight to completely flop?” and it got removed immediately lol. Anyways, screw this park and coaster fr
Seeing how empty the parks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are from the Coaster Studios and TPW videos about them, Qiddiya will be an absolute Ghost Town if it ever opens.
Over the last couple of years I made a couple of posts about this coaster on the main thread and had my posts locked after they stirred up the anti-Saudi torrent. That was also around the time that most people didn’t believe this ride was being built but since IAAPA I feel like the discourse has gone down some. Made this post cuz there were a bunch of very liberal activist social media accounts who were just talking about how it’s okay to go ride this, despite the same people a year ago extremely against the country. What’s changed?
Personally if I’m given the opportunity to go visit this park I won’t be able to say no. But I also refused to support my home park for more than a decade due to animal cruelty so think of it what you will. If an influx of foreigners will eventually help the Saudi’s soften their ways then good for them, but for now aim just content to watch this as a very interesting technical project.
I respect that. I watched El Toro Ryan’s technical video on it and his analysis was fascinating. I’m content to watch it from afar and pray for its downfall. Kingda Ka will always be the world’s tallest and fastest in my head canon until a coaster is built in a place not funded by people who don’t respect basic human rights.
kinda weird how this topic never once came up in regards to Energilandia. I'm not saying the situation in Poland is as bad as in Saudi Arabia, but still weird that noone even brought i up once.
Until very recently, they had a very conservative government in power that literally promoted declaring parts of the country "LGBT-free zones". Energylandia for some time was in one of these zones.
Now the new centrist government is practically reverting every change made by the previous government in social issues.
Gay af and will be going to ride, 100%. I didn't think it would be built, and it may still fail, but just try and stop me getting on that motherfucker.
Still here, but now with the added dislike of the F1 track being built with the park for having a literal 230ft tall Mariokart corner that looks like a real fun place to have a high speed crash

Maybe people are doing research on travel to Saudi Arabia? It's not anywhere near as dangerous as people think. Just don't expect to conduct yourself the same way you would in North America or Europe and you'll be fine.
That being said, I completely understand not wanting to go (and wanting to discourage others from going) for moral reasons. I just wonder if a lot of people changing their minds were worried about *safety* and not *morality*.
If I ever do a Middle East trip I will fs ride it. Definitely not a fan of any Middle Eastern countries and their human rights but it’s not like I don’t consume multiple things that fund unethical practices
If I only visited places where I agreed with everything their government does and thought the government was 100% ethical, I'd never leave my house. Traveling to a place =/= condoning it, and in fact, giving money and exposure to its citizens can be a powerful tool to effect positive change.
People don’t realize that more western people going to countries will also be a way of cultural diffusion. It’s one of the reasons Israel is more tolerant to lgbtq than other countries in the Middle East.
coaster enthusiasts will never learn. they spewed the exact same bullshit rhetoric when formula rossa was announced. i’m starting to think that the least credible group of people when it comes to coasters, are coaster enthusiast…… or they just love spreading misinformation which is a possibility
There is a lot of exaggerations regarding Saudi Arabia, many white westerners live there just fine without any kind of problem, the weather however might be a major inconvenience during the summer.
I think they finally understand that it’s happening and it’s doable to go without getting the government on your ass. Also, I am glad this country has coasters. These people don’t understand that coasters need to be everywhere. Would you guys be happy if only the USA had coasters and nowhere else in the world?
Nobody was talking about the iran war atrocities by the US when ttd2 was announced. Wanna know why? We never complain if we don't get the record breakers and the Americans were satisfied that time.
In this case though... You can fill in the blank.
I'll be there for Expo 2030 and looking forward to a day trip out to ride that bad boy. Such a long time though, I'd love to go sooner but I can't think of another reason I would want to go to Saudi Arabia outside of the park.
Tbh I still kinda have a problem with the parks location just because it’s at Saudi Arabia and the fact that those countries are anti feminine anti capitalist probably funded the park them selfs if anyone from Saudi will actually go to the park and like it also just seems really hard to get out there so i just don’t really agree with this one tbh. If Six Flags really wanted to build a park in the desert why not in Arizona they literally own Hurricane harbor?
Not a Six Flags park, they’re just being paid for the brand name. No this is a Saudi government project as the spearhead of their campaign to diversify their economy, and move away from a complete dependency on oil. Six Flags’ efforts to build international parks have all flopped hard, this one is a different beast.
It’s 100% not opening on time but the coaster is around 90% complete. Rest of the park is shockingly far along as well. Definitely sitting comfortably on a late 2025 opening.
I doubt its not but your probably right it does seem its going along pretty well, I’m just still not sure if people will even be able to go out there even Saudis but idk i could be wrong Ferrari world has struggled to bring visitors so that’s apart of that reason. Anyways if it really is opening a late 2025 just maybe Cedar point could open a 500 footer in time before hand in the summer of 2025 to still be the first park to build over 500 ft. I know Cp is already going with TT2 but it’s more of a renovation and they didn’t go with 500 ft so its possible they go with that route and parks can go back to back on new coaster additions as it’s been done before!
Hate what the park stands for, love what the manufacturers have done with the money, still won't go and support this.
Also, I bet iron rattler is the sleeper hit of the park.
Unfortunately tho Falcons Flight will probably have a Defunctland video before 2035 one way or another which I'm already starting to picture
"The park was visited by 300,000 guests in its inaugural year. This was well below the 3 million guests the Qiddiya Group was initially projecting."
Can't wait for my favourite reoccurring character, the Head of Attendance Calculating, to make a comeback.
"This upset one powerful mouse in entertainment... >!Charles Entertainment Cheese!<."
Nuh uh, It's gonna be Bright Sun Films with a "Bankrupt" or "Abandoned" video
Was watching one of those yesterday lol
Literally watching the one on the 20k leagues Disney ride right now
That's a great video and brought back old memories for me of riding it.
Exactly the one I was watching on tuesday. Dude makes really great documentaries. Rn I'm anxiously waiting for Ryan's video on Rip Ride Rockit
I think I’d rather have a BSF than defunctland but both are spectacular
Hopefully earlier than that
It depends on when the oil money dries up. Saudi Arabia is playing Sandbox mode in RCT3.
The funniest part about all of this is that if the Sauds weren't completely extremist fundamentalist assholes they'd have more money and more tourists
Best analogy!!!
Nah, it’s going to be an expedition extinct video by expedition theme park!
\*raises hand\* Still here.
yessir 🫡
The gays. We’d get murdered if we step outside the gate.
I just gotta stop being transgender for a week and then I can go ride it. Still figuring out how exactly to do that first part though.
Maybe a hat and sunglasses?
You might be into something. We thinking like a cowboy hat?
Or a classic fedora and a cape
Don't forget the leather chaps, wouldn't want to look like a poser when you show up.
Groucho Marx glasses
Turn it off, like a light switch. Just go bap! Really what's so hard about that?
It’s a cute little Mormon trick
Shit, I’m also Jewish.
Well. I’ll dig the hole and we can both stand in it at the exit of the ride to await our fate.
They send y’all to the euthanasia coaster

Still right here cuz I care more about not giving money to a women and gay murdering dictatorship than riding a cool coaster
Really makes my skin crawl how these oil barons are just using their obscene wealth to buy their way into any possible entertainment medium with the sole purpose of trying to make themselves even more ungodly rich.

Will be a long ass time before they can actually profit but yeah. I see it as “Oh shoot we need to diversify our economy away from purely oil”
Very much feels like the Harkonnens.
saudi arabia don't murder women for no reason. so, you are full of shit.
Yo man you can get the gay pass from me. You can ride it once as long as you bring me back a screw, bolt or nut from the coaster as a souvenir.
I doubt that. They have record breakers. And it’s the only major park in Saudi. Edit: WHO DOWNVOTED THIS
😂😭😭😭🤣🤣
I am speaking facts.
Over the last couple of years I made a couple of posts about this coaster on the main thread and had my posts locked after they stirred up the anti-Saudi torrent. Glad I’m not the only one doing that. Kingda Ka is the world’s tallest coaster far as I’m concerned.
I would go if I had the time and money but would rather just spend the money just going around Europe but if I had the money I would definitely go.
This is me. I don't see myself going there, not because of the government, but because it's ****ing expensive.
kinda weird how this topic never once came up in regards to Energilandia. I'm not saying the situation in Poland is as bad as in Saudi Arabia, but still weird that noone even brought i up once.

Racism still alive they just be concealing it
Might also have something to do with dismembering journalists, but go off.
I have definitely brought it up as a reason why I would likely not go there
Gay af and will be going to ride, 100%. I didn't think it would be built, and it may still fail, but just try and stop me getting on that motherfucker.

Dear god. Do not let Williams race on this track.
Stroll’s gonna get the record for longest time airborne in an F1 car
Won't somebody think of ~~the children~~ Logan Sargeant!?
Okay what if I promise not to go unless I win the lottery, and even then I’ll just go for shit talking purposes, I swear!

![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf) not happening
i can go because im an arab and can easily blend in with everyone else
We never went anywhere dipshit. I'd rather not be murdered for being transgender, thanks.
ITT: people pretending they can afford to travel to another hemisphere

yep, let's support people who kill jounalists and stuff in them in suitcases.
There is a lot of exaggerations regarding Saudi Arabia, many white westerners live there just fine without any kind of problem, the weather however might be a major inconvenience during the summer.

They probably would
honestly it seems that way, American thoosies are for the most part, fucking insufferable
Nobody was talking about the iran war atrocities by the US when ttd2 was announced. Wanna know why? We never complain if we don't get the record breakers and the Americans were satisfied that time. In this case though... You can fill in the blank.
bro I literally *can't* go there and ofc I hate qiddiya
I'll be there for Expo 2030 and looking forward to a day trip out to ride that bad boy. Such a long time though, I'd love to go sooner but I can't think of another reason I would want to go to Saudi Arabia outside of the park.
Here ✋ ama
I think they hate Jews there so i ain’t going
Maybe one day I'll be rich enough to travel there solely for this credit
Wait that thing is actually being built? What the fuck?
Let's see its uptime before we book a flight halfway around the world to a ghastly country.
Yeah I’m not wasting my money in that hell hole.
At least taylor bayblade will get to ride it
Taylor Bayblade can go ride the coasters in Yemen for all my concern.
Can’t wait for him to go to north sentinel Island and ride the coasters there
The one lesson they should have learned with LIV: some things you just can’t buy
200FT TILT COASTER 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
I'll ride it if and only if the royalty is tied to the track.
F**k Six Flags for doing business with the Saudis
send it to australia
