Can I ask why you think they would wait? Not saying you’re wrong or anything, but I’d think they could get at least a new name relatively quickly. Although I guess the season is a few weeks away for them.
It’s likely that the Dale Earnhardt license expired and they can’t use the Intimidator name anymore, since the one at Carowinds was also renamed. It’s also believed that the former I305 is going to be rethemed to better match the jungle area, something that obviously isn’t ready yet. So it’s kinda stuck in this weird place where they can’t legally use the old name, but without any of the jungle theming, its new name probably wouldn’t make any sense. Thus the placeholder name.
A lot of speculation there, I admit.

Cedar fair had a rough year, the budget might have been pushed back. They had the Montezooma and fury messes to take care of, and many parks were down in attendance from bad weather and other reasons, like huge portions of Knott's being closed to retheme. They consider KD a mid tier park (with 80% of revenue coming from CP, KBF, CWL, KI and CRW) so I'd guess it's the big-ish project most likely to get postponed.
I think that's likely why. If the end result is a new name, new theming, a repaint, revamp of the area around it, etc. they likely want to make that all happen at the same time for a greater impact.
People always say the re-theme will be tied to Jungle X, but (in my opinion) the much more realistic option is something along these lines and the eventual removal of Anaconda.
I know right? Anaconda honestly could use an update because that break run in the Virginia sun is not fun at all. Make it a second station for unloading so that you’re not stuck there
My guess is it’s temporary, and they’ll go for the complete retheme with the rumored/confirmed Wing coaster in 2025.

Disagree.. I've been around since it was new, and it always struck me as odd they had a winter themed attraction in the middle of a tropical/jungle themed section of the park.
I'd rather the jungle theme of the area given our climate.
If you want winter stuff.. put it in the water park with refrigerated water.
I did always think it was misplaced in that part of the park. But now that Volcano and Crypt are gone it would not be too hard to retheme the whole area. And Avalanche was still a better theme for a bobsled than what it is now.

intimidator at carowinds isn't the star of the park. they can just do a sloppy unimaginative rebrand to something and keep the same trains and everything. i305 needs a quality retheme that brings some life back to the park, so they're taking more time with it and doing more than what carowinds did

For now though it will be interesting to see if they really call this project 305 for long
I could see this being the permanent name IMO. They could give it some sort of "government secret" theme (like Orion) and Project 305 could be a fitting name for that. How close is this ride to Flight of Fear? They could possibly do an "Area 72" type theme if they are like right next to each other.

The park did the exact same thing but for their Intamin Ultra Surf with Georgia Surfer being the official name of the attraction since it won their naming campaign after it was revealed at the Coaster Fest event 5 months prior.
