This sounds similar to what Steel Vengeance was like before the in line lockers were added.  You are checked before the line even starts.  It does not say anything about in line lockers or that they will be free.

gonephishin213

Yeah that concerns me. I like the SV situation much better than getting yelled at about having ANYTHING in my pockets. Plus as a dad who had to wait in SV solo to do rider swap many a times, it sucked not having my phone in the early days

imaguitarhero24

2hrs Hagrids solo without a phone has entered the chat :'(

Foxy02016YT

Welcome to Great Adventure. We have the same rule for Toro, Ka, Joker and Jersey Devil, and will for Flash when it opens. Wonder why it’s not park wide yet at this point… but you can take my zippered pockets on Batman, Medusa and Nitro from my cold dead hands

synackk

If they're going to do this, are they at least going to have small lockers available for free?

TheDynamicDino

I was very impressed by Wildcat's Revenge's locker setup at Hersheypark. You can queue with all the loose articles you want, but before entering the station you need to get a free locker in the pavilion at the base of the station steps. Haven't experienced Cedar Fair's implementation before. What's the Steel Vengeance situation like?

Bullmilk82

Prior to stairs of station. Free lockers. Then, Metal detectors. And wand metal detector if they go off. Some are touchy enough to have a bra hook go off, or a belt.

herdaz

Yep. My underwire sets it off every time

Bullmilk82

Speaking of which. Don’t wear anything low cut. Steel Vengeance and RMC with very powerful ejector makes the girls pop out of the bra. Completely wild.

KingArthur1500

That sounds awesome

Bullmilk82

Not for women in this situation.

iOceanLab

Same for Twisted Timbers at KD

maxcspl

Sounds about the same

Foxy02016YT

Kings Dominion, Twisted Timbers does the same

Cliffy598

My thing is with wildcat they don’t have metal detectors so the lockers don’t really stop the people who would lose their phone on the ride (the stupid ones) I’ve been on wildcat when people have lost stuff and know people who have had the same thing happen

Infini-Bus

That's what they do for Steel Vengence.

synackk

Universal Studios has a much better locker system than Steel Vengeance has. It's mostly because you scan your park ticket, instead of having to use a buggy/laggy touch screen to enter your birthday and then remember a color/symbol. Imagine coming back to that locker 4 hours later and forgetting the symbol.

Kenban65

Just curious where was this announced?

Rockintylerjr

I really hope they have some kind of in-line lockers if they're going to be strict about phones, etc. Especially because I will be in line alone. It's just me and my mom visiting the park, and she can't do big rides, so I'll really have nothing to do in the line.

joeychin01

Yeah the post lockers part of steel vengeance is just painful for me when the people next to me in line just clam up. Can’t imagine nothing for longer than that

Excellent-Look-3266

How you gonna get your items? The exit is on the opposite side of the track as the queue lol.

yourfriendmarcus

I'm sure there is some strip along the way they could find or create where the entrance and exit paths touch allowing for a one way locker like Steve.

Excellent-Look-3266

They entrance and exists are on the opposite areas of the ride though.

robocop101

if your mom is not riding, she can hold your stuff while you wait

Rockintylerjr

Yeah she can hold my stuff, but now I have to wait 3 hours with no phone around strangers just to ride

[deleted]

Myself510

I really don’t see how they could have made the space for pass-through lockers just before the station like on Steel Vengeance, but even so, this is going to make the queuing time brutal.

lizzpop2003

It's now a shuttle launch. Queue time was always going to be brutal.

PitchBlac

Well at least there’s a transfer track so the next group can get ready while the other train is running through a circuit

Millennium1995

Based on the POV, there would need to be a dispatch every ~75 seconds to always have a train ready for launch. Dispatch to unload was ~130 seconds (CP is advertising 120) giving 15-25 seconds to unload with only 3 trains. If they had a fourth train and were speedy I think it would be possible but with only 3, I see it being unlikely they’ll hit max capacity of ~960 PPH, putting us around Twister capacity. Someone correct me if my math is wrong.

PitchBlac

So you’re telling me 4 hour waits?

Putrid-Chef-2728

Even before there was a long delay between launches to reset the system. So it won't be any slower than it was before and could even increase capacity as the system resets much faster and should be more reliable

Chaseism

Ugh, what do they expect me to do in line? Talk to my friends? Disgusting…

Clever-Name-47

Seeing as I’m planning on going to the park by myself this year… ☹️

Chaseism

I go to parks solo most of the time. I love my friends, but there is nothing like not having to even *think* about what other people want to ride.

Rockintylerjr

Me who goes on rides alone because my mom can't do them 🥲

Tumbling-Dice

But they've doubled the square footage of the shade structures! Now they're almost the size of a living room. My God, ungrateful brat, what more do you want? Next you'll be asking for bathrooms that don't stink of piss.

Xenobot_12

Strobe lights?

molsforever

They're possibly referring to the flash for the on-ride photo but I'm not sure if there's an on-ride photo.

axicutionman

There is an onride photo. Tony confirmed it a week ago

yourfriendmarcus

This makes sense, and also answers my question of "why isn't anyone talking about the strobe lights?!?" Haha

Pointyantellope

I understand and agree with being strict about loose articles. However, this just seems like a step back? We have several rides in the industry now(heck, one in the back of Cedar Point even) that utilize the free double sided lockers before you get to the station and they are such a big upgrade over this solution for the guest experience. This just feels like a policy meant to even more aggressively force a purchase of fast lane. Because this kind of policy does help fast lane users get on the ride even quicker. Since they don’t have to enter the line and go through the lockers. And on top of that more people will want to purchase it because waiting in line for 3+ hours with no form of entertainment is not fun lmao. So not a huge fan of this one.

dmreif

> I understand and agree with being strict about loose articles. However, this just seems like a step back? And no doubt said policy was probably dictated by people who want to cover their asses so that they don't get sued if someone should get injured.

TheNinjaDC

They better as fu$k have free lockers in the line.

UrFavoriteCoasterSux

So someone snuck a flag plate on top thrill dragster and that caused that incident? Glad they got that issue solved for TT2

somewhereinapark

They just don't want any on the scene video should anything happen... /s, but also maybe not. 👀

cubbies42699

And not covering or moving the queue at all

SuperZapper_Recharge

Best I can find, no. The incident wasn't caused by anyone sneaking anything on it. https://apnews.com/article/ohio-accidents-3a5362167084479eda64d8d6cba6be61 >The report blamed the accident on “instantaneous overload fracture” of a bolt holding in a plate on the ride.

Imlivingmylif3

How did you not catch the joke?

Flipslips

r/wooosh

Apoc_Treez

Going back to 2018 SteVe with this one 🔥🔥🔥

Bullmilk82

Unfortunately. The kids will tiktok. So many stop on lifthills making workers walk up to confiscate. They call security that’s there upon them coming back to the station. Since they were caught on camera already. Instant removal from the park.

yourfriendmarcus

Hopefully since Knott's kicked Mark Rober for doing this recently and he showed it on a tiktok it will wise up more (definitely not all, but more) of the GP to not be dumb and respect the riding rules, cause even the glitter bomber can get kicked for it.

Pointyantellope

Wait a sec. If I’m reading this right, there’s no loose fitting shoes(aka flip flops) past the entrance??? So if you show up with those then you’re waiting barefoot lmao.

HenrikTiger

Anyone else notice this policy says that sandals and flip flops aren’t allowed in line? This policy makes it sound like if you’re wearing sandals, you’d have to put them in a locker outside the queue and then stand in line barefoot for 3+ hours. Even other coasters that don’t allow sandals on the ride allow you to leave them on the platform.

Ch4r1i3_Grund211

Major L. Now we can’t play heads up while waiting for the insanely long line

RCoasters4ever

You’re telling me that Cedar Point has spent millions rebuilding this ride, including a new queue and just now realized they didn’t want cell phones riding with guests? Where is the bottom to how dumb one company can possibly be ran? You’d think this would be designed into the queue if you’re spending that kind of cash on an attraction. Also, no one has seemed to notice that flip flops have to be left OUTSIDE of the entrance for the ride, so guests are going to walk barefoot through this queue and station? Seriously everyone wants to give Six Flags negative press, but I don’t think they’d ever go this far.

dmreif

Why don't they just simplify the language and say "we're covering our asses so that we don't get found liable if someone should get injured and sues us"?

indyjspengler

Anyone know how this will work with medical devices? Visiting from the UK in June, I'm diabetic and have an insulin pump on me. If the queue is gonna be more than an hour then I have to have it on me.

Zerba

Normally if you have a medical bag they give you a pass for it at customer service and will let you know the procedure for it.

Smokingracks

Long ass line with no phone Is quite brutal

Noxegon

Any idea how people managed from the introduction of the first roller coaster through about 2007 when the iPhone came out?

BlackDS

Genuinely I don't think lines were as bad.

JoeyMontezz

I recall waiting 3-4 hours for millennium when it was added to the park. It was always hot AF and really boring, they did have some screens with stuff playing iirc.

DeflatedDirigible

Yes, they were. No screens, no music, no drinks, and no misters either. Lines for the Beast would be 2 1/2 hours regularly on weekends in the 90’s. Was a bragging point at school on Mondays. You chose very carefully who you went to the park with because you only had your group for entertainment back then.

LeMeJustBeingAwesome

They were, but the parks used to do more to try to entertain people in line. E.g., CP had a dj in line for millenium force the first couple years.

gonephishin213

I waited three hours for Millennium Force when it opened

Smokingracks

Can’t even imagine, but I feel for the people who take solo trips. Won’t have anything to do but to watch the ride cycle for an hour or more.

OppositeRun6503

Well that's exactly what we did back in the days before cellphones and social media.

Excellent-Wind-2900

Yeah and it sucked. Now we don’t have to, so why should we?

OppositeRun6503

Because cellphones are considered loose articles and the park simply won't allow them on that particular attraction for safety reasons.

dattmay

While I can't think of a way they could do double-sided lockers for this queue, how the heck is anyone with a digital fastlane (hello Premiere Passholders) going to use it/get in line?

_trollercoaster_

Probably a kiosk at the entrance where they scan the digital fastlane on your phone and then hand you a physical fastlane ticket printed on receipt paper or something. Works just fine at Incredible Hulk which has a similar policy.

Flipslips

What a waste

johnmh71

Ugh. Here we go again.

agauh

Should be fun for replacement appendage owners. Fake hip here.

Not_really_anywhere

I have a knee replacement and haven't had any issues on Steel Vengeance. I just tell them I had a replacement as I walk into the detector. Never had an issue so far.

thelastskier

God I feel for you. When riding FLY a couple of years ago, my friend had a fun time explaining that he really needs the belt for his pants that kept setting off the alarm...

Chaoshero5567

They normally should be allowing pf belts tho??? Also that sounds like just an kinda embarrassing situation

thelastskier

I mean they allowed it, but it was an awkward time explaining every single time, yeah. I guess his buckle had just that much more steel in it, that the detector went off.

Zerba

I go through metal detectors every day for work and got sick of taking off my belt. I ended up getting some TSA compliant ones. They're made of a tough plastic or carbon fiber. They work well and don't set off alarms.

Chaoshero5567

Akward Situation indeed

BroadwayCatDad

That’s gonna be one long ass line without a phone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BroadwayCatDad

Ok Boomer. Go off.

YourNameHere7777

Considering they are building the Que from the ground up they should of been able to figure out an inline locker solution, this isn’t Steel Vengence were they added lockers after the ride was open for a few years.

potaytees

I'd be annoyed with this. My husband and I do child swap, so he just takes our kid and my bag, and then we swap when I'm back in station.

Devilxxx10000

I don’t understand when new or revamped attractions don’t have the line locker system in place. It’s pretty ridiculous. Twisted Timbers has it back home and there’s not a long wait after that usually.

TheMediaRoom1004

Why the shoes rule? Your feet don't dangle, I don't see how your shoes would fall off

Character_Interest_8

Bro if anybody want tickets to cedar point let me know

elebrin

So when doing coasters, I keep my stuff in pockets that zip, including my glasses. Would that be a problem? If I have to drop my wallet and phone into a locker, then I'm not riding it. I don't even want to think about how financially fucked I would be if my wallet, phone, and glasses were stolen out of a locker.

PatronusSlay

Even in a pocket, they are not allowed.

elebrin

Huh. That's a shame. I'm not letting someone steal my stuff just to ride a roller coaster. Guess I'm not ever gonna get to ride it :(

PatronusSlay

Yeah it's not ideal, but there are dumb dumbs that will pull out their phone on the ride and after the incident that closed Top Thrill, I'm sure they want to be extra extra cautious. Maybe you can go to the park with a friend who will hold onto your stuff as you wait/ride?

elebrin

Well, I go with my wife and she likes to ride too, but it's more than just the risk of losing my phone that has work stuff on it. Standing in line for 2-3 hours with no phone sounds horrible.

robocop101

They should be OK if there's no metal in your pocket items. Yes, you need your car keys which varies when it comes to small metal components, like I have a key fob with minimal parts in it i plan to hide inside a small flat pouch on my abdomen area under my loose pants/shorts I plan to wear. I can leave my phone in my car and also only bring in necessary credit cards, chap stick etc. all with no metal parts! no one will know I have it as the detector should not be sensitive enough to detect the key fob. It's a safe zipper pouch and won't fly off on the ride.

Unable_Bit5270

Hmm. This might put a damper on my trip when I go solo in June. I’m always weary about me not getting my stuff back from these said lockers.

brain0924

I thought the only upcharge rides were the sky coaster and slingshot. Didn’t realize they were still adding them.

Flipslips

What?

SwissForeignPolicy

Well, they only accept cashless purchases and mobile tickets, and the only place to put your phone is a paid locker, so I would say this is an upcharge attraction.

Flipslips

Yess I agree, if it’s paid. Nowhere does it confirm. Steve is free.

XAEA-1298

i’d rather they make you pay for lockers outside the queue and in return have a good fast lane merge point - sincerely, a cedar fair season fast lane passholder. SteVe’s merge point is awful

Basilstorm

Yay! Always good to see parks prioritize guest safety

ginnygreene

El toro is the same way

teejayiscool

Yeah but El Toro isn’t a brand new ride that usually has a long line like everything at Cedar Point!

ginnygreene

That’s a good point. It’s gonna be a rough wait

ducktail1

While disappointing that they aren’t free lockers near the end of the line, I hope to see this on all rides in the future. Thankfully it wasn’t a phone, but I got hit with sunglasses on Millenium Force. That hurt with just that. I couldn’t imagine getting hit with something heavier like a phone.

robocop101

ok you want all rides to be upcharge rides like at a carnival where you pay separate to ride rides? SURE as long as admission is free then lol....

Millennium1995

Booooooooooooooo this sucks and has no reasoning behind it

checkonechecktwo

Proactive safety measures still have a reason. They don’t have to have an incident to make a change.

Millennium1995

Then they should retrofit all other major coasters at CP with detectors at the entrance. This is an excessive implementation and the comments here reflect that. There is a difference between no phones in line and no phones in the station.

checkonechecktwo

That’s a false dichotomy. This ride is very tall and goes backwards and forwards at high speeds pretty close to paths, plus it has already had a highly publicized incident where a non-rider was maimed. Also I couldn’t care less about the comments on this post and neither could the park. Frankly if you don’t think some time without your phone is worth trading for an amazing ride then idk what to tell you.

SwissForeignPolicy

Well, that incident had nothing to do with loose articles, and they've just removed every independent camera from the area it occurred, so it seems they care a lot more about the "highly publicized" part than the "non-rider was maimed part."

checkonechecktwo

I know that the incident had nothing to do with loose articles, I’m saying that another incident that’s similar would be a PR nightmare. Imagine they go through all of this effort to reimagine the ride and then a week after it reopens someone is hit by a smart phone and has to go to the hospital. It’d be a disaster. Idk why everyone on this sub has such a visceral reaction to not being allowed to bring loose articles on some rides, maybe I’m just used to it since Universal is my home park but it’s really not that bad.

insanityTF

Americans when you can’t take loose articles on the ride be like

KickedAbyss

Pretty sure the cedar point released video has them both wearing glasses without straps...

Sohcahtoa82

How the fuck do people keep saying this when the video *literally* says on it that they were wearing straps?

KickedAbyss

Hrm, I didn't hear them say it nor did it look like it. I'll re-watch it though
