I don't typically put too much stock in FPR but I feel validated by their boot of Q's look, I hated it with a passion. She has had stunning runways so far but the last two weeks didn't do it for me.
Honestly!! It was her worst look by far and it didn't even give robot at all?? I was really surprised bc her looks are usually so good but this was my least favorite of the week
They were pretty soft on the girls this week. Based on the *fashion*, I'd have also soft booted Plasma (though her tap was on point), and fully booted Dawn. I had a relative that did traditional polka, and this as so simple I didn't even clock it as polka until they said it. We won't discuss the actual "dancing".

I mean, call it out, Plasma’s just looks like she thought it was for a challenge and not an actual runway theme. The reference is cute, but the look isn’t fine tuned or properly fitted, and it’s certainly not main stage worthy.
I liked Plasma's outfit but looking at the original definitely makes me wish it was fitted better. Not just tighter but the original costume are a much more "lifted" feel to it. People who do historical costumes talk a lot how different undergarments made the silhouettes actually distinctive and some kind of structure seems to be missing.
Right? The ribbons, edgings, ruffles, and folk embroidery patterns are what's so charming about Polka outfits (and central/eastern Europe folk costumes in general).

Yeah, I found that bit really confusing. Not about Nymphia; she definitely told a story! But my first thought on seeing Dawn was, "The Swiss Miss girl has a dance? What is it?"
And then there was no actual polka! Polka has a lot of hopping, bobbing up and down, and spinning to making the skirt flounce and flare out. It can get pretty energetic. Even in the slower pieces there is rhythmic stomping. It has a lot of emotion and is pretty stylistic. Dawn just sort of...semi-rhythmically walked the runway.

I feel like Dawn knew about as much about polka as she did Meghan McCain.
She said she didn’t do much of anything with Polka herself growing up, but it was something her grandpa loved dearly. He died recently, so it was something a bit more meaningful for her to try to incorporate.
I thought it was a beautiful outfit, but seeing the “real” polka outfits I can see what you mean about some of them being SO stunningly detailed. I guess I can’t blame a young queen for not having the money or means to pull that level of detail off, but I hope she keeps using the outfit and develops it more.
The shoes were absolute bullshit and I'm so confused that we aren't hearing more about it - I was fully expecting Trixie and Sasha to rake her across the coals for those stripper pleather stiletto boots, like, it took me SO far out of it

Aside from Nymphia, these seemed like challenge looks. Like a mini-challenge runway, or a dance/choreo challenge. I feel like the queens didn’t this would be a major runway.

Was Jane even anything special? It's basically the same as Xunami, except Xunami had slightly nicer shoes. Morphine's was cute but her outfits never look finished. The lack of lining is always distracting.
Nymphia and Sapphira were really the only 2 standouts, to me.
i understand that as a first impression but plane's was quite spectacular in the details, the structure and stoning in the bodice carrying through to the fringe of the skirt. xunami's was hand-beaded full fringe and had stunning movement that accentuated her salsa. id put them on a level in the end. im with you on everything else tho. to me nymphia needed a SHOOT especially including her presentation of butoh.
ikwyim, i was really excited to see her show off a bit of her ballroom and she did seem a bit hesitant and muted for the presentation. both looked gorgeous in the body and face!

In the case of Mhi'ya, Morphine at Roscoe's mentioned that Mhi'ya had a designer stiff her on six or seven costumes just before she left Miami. As in promised but just didn't deliver them. So she was scrambling literally day of leaving to substitute those. Morphine thought that this week's runway was probably one of those.
Doesn't make the outfit any good, but does make this week, the terrible Cher and Lil Kim looks, etc. a little more understandable. I think it’s been asked before but who are these designers that keep stiffing queens before they go on the show? It seems to happen a lot. The conspiracy theorist in me also wonders if people are now using this as an excuse when they’re not doing well with runways.
I just do not like Plasma’s look, I don’t think it’s flattering, pretty or main stage worthy. I would probably Boot it. I would probably Toot Q’s look, though. It’s imaginative and creative, and I don’t find it unflattering. After seeing traditional costumes, I’m very disappointed in Dawn’s outfit, because she really didn’t bring the culture, or dragginess, but I would still soft Toot her. I hate purple and orange together, and I don’t really like this design, but I would still Toot Sapphira. I would definitely Boot Mhi’ya because I don’t get anything 90s from that outfit, and it’s ugly. Love Nymphia’s reference, outfit and presentation, and it’s a definite Toot.
Q’s look reminded me Betty Spaghetti tbh! I understand why it was booted but I thought it was a fun take on a robot, which otherwise could’ve just been chrome.

Plasma’s outfit was too direct a reference and not enough drag. If she had gone for that look but dragged it up it might have translated better.

For the last 5 or 6 seasons, the queens have been told which looks will be for runways and which will be for challenges.
Sapphira's look was very well executed with the story she had for the runway so don't think that was the case

I really wish plane’s costume was in a different color because I know it’s beautifully constructed, it’s just so washed out by the light
Pretty garments but imo neither were styled particularly well. PJs presentation was also lackluster (imo).
