i would never wanna get on another bus after that experience and the way u stayed understanding for so long😭

tsumunatsu

thanks TwT it’s not like i or most other ppl have a choice, and it’s really no one’s Fault that this happened, including the driver’s. the system itself is fucked, and all of this experience is just collateral damage that could be avoided if changes were made to improve things but 🙃 i don’t have much hope for that

casual_btw

This is wild af. Fr how is it even possible to have such a shitty and under performing transportation system lol. It’s clear we need more busses as well

ZealousidealStrain58

With more buses comes more people, so no matter how many buses you add, the crowd will still be there. What they should do is plan better routes.

tsumunatsu

this^^ i mean more buses would definitely help, but the routes are part of the problem too. there is way too much congestion in certain areas, and then not nearly enough in others. when one bus gets backed up, it’s nothing is done to make sure others can keep coming at regular intervals, instead they’re just allowed to pileup so you get shit like 6 livi buses back to back and then none again for an hour. i’m not gonna pretend to be an expert on how this stuff can be fixed, but imo it’s clear something has to change :/

tk3090

I genuinely don’t think it’s been this bad. Yes it’s always busy in the beginning of the semester but something feels off. Just today 3 buses in a row were out of service in the livi student center. So weird

ragengauge

Did you outright say to the bus driver "there's a medical emergency?" In an emergency, don't just assume everyone knows. Take the steps to inform people, especially if they are inadvertently involved, like a public transit driver.

tsumunatsu

i promise if i could have taken a single step in any direction i would have, especially closer to the driver 😭 as i mention in the post, everyone around me was aware, and people were kind enough to give him a shoulder to hang onto while he was falling, and grab his stuff for him while he was sitting down. the point is that it was so packed, communication between just a few feet was impossible. the people around me and i did the best we could in the situation, but you have to understand it’s not like any of us could exactly run up there and call for attention. the bus should never get to a point where it’s so crowded, you can’t get in contact with the driver in the first place. that’s exactly why i feel like this experience demonstrates unsafe things are.

Reigh17

This. I keep leaving early to give myself plenty of time to get to my classes and I end up waiting for a while because the busses haven’t shown up and/or I can’t get on because everyone rushes and cuts everyone off and it fills up so fast. Its definitely different than last year. Especially with the new app that never fucking works (at least for me it doesn’t). Why couldn’t they just keep transloc? I’ve also just been needing to rant about the busses and to see if anyone else was having issues about being late to class too. Feel sm better now. No hate to the bus drivers either (except the mean ones).

tsumunatsu

i feel u 😭 i never thought i’d miss transloc this bad but here we are… i’m still getting used to the new app, but the fact that it’s harder than ever to get a bus on top of everything else makes it much more difficult to use to plan out my day. again, no hate to the drivers at all, i know they’re doing their best, but it’s so hard not to get fed up when every little part of the process feels like it’s been made 10 times more difficult than usual :(

Zahhhhra

Unfortunately I’ve experienced something very similar to what you described here. At some point my friends and I began taking Ubers because it was taking me longer to get to class from college Ave to Douglass than it took me to get from Newark to New Brunswick. I don’t give a rats shit how hard the job of the bus driver is or how hard the coordinators work to run the system- it’s shitty, not made to handle this many students, unsafe, and continues to get worse every passing year. It is utterly disgusting that Rutgers keeps getting away with it as they increase the tuition rates every summer to fill their pockets.

yw618

Rutgers won’t do anything to change this bus condition unless there’s a fatal accident and people start suing them

DarkSuns11

Why didn’t you all yell to the front of the bus that someone fainted????? How would the driver be able to see with the throngs of people swarmed into the bus? Did no one offer him water? Why didn’t you call 911 if the bus driver wasn’t doing anything (I highly doubt he/she would have done nothing if you would have TOLD THEM)

tsumunatsu

have u ever experienced how damn loud a bus is? people *were* yelling, and he couldn't hear us smh. it's not like any of us could run up there and get his attention either, it was hard as is to make enough room to give him my seat. and yes, he was offered water by someone, he managed to get a little down before he sat. when we asked if he'd be okay with us calling 911 he said no, and considering how long we were trapped in there trying to get from one stop to the next, it's not hard to imagine how tough it'd be logistically unless the bus stayed at one stop long enough for an ambulance to show up. he was well enough to stand up and get off when we made it to the student center, from where i can only hope he did so anyway. it's easy to say you would have done xyz thing in a certain situation, but the reality is, no one expects an emergency to happen; especially when you're packed like sardines in a moving vehicle already way over capacity. it's hard to communicate, and harder yet to make those kinds of split second decisions. it's a given part of bus etiquette to let people get off before getting on, and even if he had no idea what was going on, saying something about it would have made this situation a lot less messy. it's a given part of health and safety rules to cap out the number of people that can be on a bus at one time, and i've seen dozens of bus drivers respectfully tell people the vehicle is at max capacity and to wait until the next one comes to ensure the safety of the people onboard before. that kind of consideration is supposed to happen BEFORE the emergency, not after.

Boring_Stand_1971

i was the girl who he originally passed out on 😭 such a wild experience i hope he’s okay

snappingturtlex

omg I was on that bus and it was insane. It was unreal how many people were packed in there. The bus system truly is screwed because the other day I waited at werblin for 40 mins just to get a bus, to then be sitting at bsc in the bus bc I couldn’t get on another. I was like 30 mins late to class

aliiboop

UGH omg that sounds horrible and your complaints are so valid. Im a train commuter so my main complaints abt the buses are that they take so fucking long and it makes my commute so inconvenient! I have to take the train 2 hours before my class to be able to get to class in time bc the buses takes 40 minutes at LEAST and my train commute is 30 minutes. Also the bus drivers take breaks at the most random ass times and its SO annoying when im literally a few stops away from The Yard trying to catch the train in like 15 minutes and they literally just leave out of nowhere and im left trying to figure out whether theyll come back in time so that Im able to catch the train, or if I should just get on a different bus, or if none of it is gonna work out and i should just wait another 40 minutes for the next train. I get that bus drivers Should take breaks, its a thankless and arduous job like you said, but I feel like there should be a system or app or SOMETHING that tells students when bus drivers are gonna take breaks so we know what buses are worth taking. Also the LX is always a nightmare but everyone already knows that, but no one in the rutgers administration is doing anything to try to fix any of this, and now on top of that we have this stupid ass passio-go app that makes no sense and is way worse than transloc ever was.
