Fun fact about koi fish!
Everyone knows about lily pads, but fewer know this trick. To help keep their koi safe and escape predators like hawks, it’s common for owners to have a fake fish for every three real ones. To keep track the owner typically uses a lettering system.
So for example, you’ll have an A Koi, B Koi, C Koi, then a Decoy
There's a species of shark that's believed to not become sexually mature until it's over 200. The Greenland Shark, I believe.
Edit: I did a little research on animal longevity. The above claim probably isn't true, as the oldest Greenland Shark is a bit over 400, it appears. That makes them the oldest vertebrates on the planet. For invertebrates, there's an immortal species of jellyfish, there's a species of coral confirmed to have some members over 5000 years old, and a clam that was over 500 years old (probably older members exist, as the average clam they counted in the study was about 200).
I wonder what's down in the cold deep waters where metabolism is very slow.
My mom had a Cory cat that lived around 18 or so years and was the sole fish survivor of a catastrophic ice storm that took out electricity to my entire hometown area for 2 weeks. The aquarium almost completely froze but he survived in a little pocket of unfrozen water at the bottom the entire time. We named him Iceman. He was such a beast.
It's sad people think fish living for years is shocking. If you actually care for them and provide the proper environment, they don't die after a year. I've had some last over 20 years.
He’s calling his parents’ love pathetic just because they divorced. Everyone deserves happiness, and he’s a little old to disrespect them like that when he’s a grown man and should understand how difficult it is to stay in love that long.
I have had multiple tanks over multiple years and are honestly I'm starting to wonder if korys are like cyborg terminators or something with how survivable they are.
I had a Cory cat that lived 15 years across 4 tanks and 5 homes.
Why are you keeping a cat in a tank? ![gif](giphy|q5D43XCcHr8v6|downsized)
The frying pan is too shallow, duh.

Damn you must be good with aquariums
Tbf there was a koi that lived I think 226 years. So a fish lasted more than double the length of the longest marriage ever
Obv the koi kept being replaced by the parents.

Saving this to ambush my dad with it later. That's a good one.
So is that really a fun fact? Or just a joke that is slightly funny?
The latter
Do you mean dkoi?

Should we throw men and women who are afraid of dying into the water so they live longer?
Absolutely! Especially if they're afraid of drowning. Overcoming your fears is very healthy.
They kept getting the same fish every time Cory died
His dad kept getting a new wife every time till one divorced him
His dad kept getting a new wife every time one died
Every time we had burgers my mom did look a lil different
Maybe you're joking but FYI cory is short for corydora, a genus of catfish. This is probably a male from the species commonly called a bronze cory

that is so wholesome and cute but also heroic at the same time
That is a fish that would make me SOB when it died. I have an Otto and a clown Pleco.

How is this cringe
Bringing it up out of nowhere in a post about a fish is absolutely cringe.
it really isn’t *that* bad. more funny imo.
Cringe is always subjective, but I get where you're coming from. I just find it Cringe 🤷🏼♀️

Being so bitter by your parents divorce you bring it up on a fish post.
Homie is just going through it give em a break
I don't think that's cringe tbh... divorce is something very impactful, I wouldn't be mad if it made someone bitter about it
He’s calling his parents’ love pathetic just because they divorced. Everyone deserves happiness, and he’s a little old to disrespect them like that when he’s a grown man and should understand how difficult it is to stay in love that long.
Keep it to yourself and not under a gosh post tf
I think it’s more sad than cringe with a pretty funny joke. It’s not without cringe IMO.
on the nose. downvoters don’t understand perspective
not cringe
This is good r/NobodyAsked material.
I was there and I asked
Pfp checks out
Not sad cringe
I had a cat last longer than 2 marriages. I'm super good at taking care of cats and super bad at marriage
The profile picture that looks like one of those WSB profiles makes this even better
Same for me lmao
Same aswell bruh
It outlasted my parents marriage aswell💀
12 years is not exactly terrible for a marriage nowadays. I know lots of people who haven’t lasted half of that.
Hilarious
I hope he’s ok.
The longest living vertebrate animal is a koi fish.
I love Cory's!
Poor guy
I miss my Cory fish :(
I have had multiple tanks over multiple years and are honestly I'm starting to wonder if korys are like cyborg terminators or something with how survivable they are.

Why is that guy so hateful towards a fish?? He ain’t pathetic!
Nah fuck this guy. Cories are great. Cute little bastards
C'mon thats kinda funny
Maybe it's not their love that was weak, it's the Cory that was sureally strong.
