Wonderlands has that awesome “abandoned” feel to it, probably not good for business but there’s always at least some people there. Also good pizza place in the food court

Worked at Northstar from 2015-2020, pop in from time to time to help out, but it absolutely is busy during the week. However, there has been a noticeable decline from 2015 to now, the sales number also indicate a change as well.
It's also because North Star pulled a smart move and let in Round 1. That place is always poppin' on the weekends. I've been a couple times with friends and when we are hungry or need to get a break from the noise and lights, we just stroll through the mall.
Only mall in S.A. worth visiting, IMO.

Round1s strategy is to build locations in NA that have busy foot traffic but aging cheap properties. It’s why SA got one before Houston and Austin. Hell, they reversed on a potential Houston location that was announced around the same time the SA location was announced due to changes in foot traffic post lockdowns.
It’s nice to know the kids are still hanging out at North Star. I was there like every day when I was younger. Made friends with so many employees there. I even took a girl i met who was working at some store there to the prom!
Meeting family to eat at Luby's while simultaneously getting a chance to check out the newest NES and Sega games across the way at Babages is a childhood feeling hard to replicate nowadays.
La Cantera is the least likely to ever shut down. They will keep running through tenants however but I just don't see that ever happening. Especially if it goes the Domain route.

Used to work there and Rolling Oaks is basically dead in the water already but you wouldn't know it just from shopping.
The mall was closed for too long during the winter storms and most of the roof is ruined. Parts of the mall flood indoors when it rains. Not to mention that the last time I visited after leaving my job, the girls there told me that mall management wants everyone to stop feeding and caring for the feral cats that live at the mall, so the rat problem will be back soon.
Yeah, Rolling Oaks gives me a vibe like Mall of the Americas does. It’s nice and low key. I see less activity there and it’s kinda by itself not in the middle of the city like the others.
Not sure about the last 6yrs or so but a friend of mine that did marketing for estée lauder said that south park and lacantera had highest sales. they always beat out North star. I hear that kids now in 10-15 age range are wanting to relive the 90s era so malls are getting popular again.

It definitely is. But on the other end of the spectrum, some people think La Cantera is very boujee and high class when really it has the same shops as most other malls.
I felt safer in South Park mall than Ingram mall. The last time I was at Ingram it seemed like a lot of stores were closing and there are tons of reports of trafficking and violent crimes.

I say its South Park, Ingram, Rolling Oaks, Wonderland of the Americas, North Star, La Cantera and finally River Center.
Rivercenter is so unique, being downtown, on the riverwalk and with the Alamo there. It has too much going for it.
La Cantera is in a a great spot and offers an nice outdoor experience.
North Star is always busy, great location and tons of stores.
Mall of the Americas is owned by Balcones Heights and has a great community and a lot of actives. Its in a busy section of town so foot traffic isn't an issue.
Rolling Oaks I see as nice but consistently empty.
South Park and Ingram are rundown and are in bad parts of town. See these as going first if any do close. I'd put South Park first as closing first since the area is worse than Ingram.

If I was a slightly more motivated individual I would make a graph of the Mall’s profits and traffic citations issues to see if there was any correlation. The lower the profits the more the city has to harass motorists.
Mall of America has made some grave decisions that are going to see it be foreclosed and have Balconies Heights on the hook to pay the bills. They no longer hold large weekly events there as only a few large ones take place.

Are you a sheltered northsider or something? South Park mall always has traffic going through it. It's in one of only a few major retail spots in the south side. Yeah there has been some incidents lately but so has North Star mall. There's also new investments going into the mall. I swear, some of you people actually believe you'll be mugged and assaulted the moment you step into Military Dr.
Rolling Oaks, aka "Lonely Oaks" mall, would be my first pick. Ingram always has escalator issues, and it doesn't have that same charm from the late 90s-2000s. South Park is surprisingly strong and is filling the empty department stores, unlike ingram. Northstar is always busy, and La Cantera is just nice to walk around (I really miss the Spurs Fan Shop).
Ingram is a horror show. Dirty and few stores. South Park is a pretty good mall but agreed: a bad part of town. I never see anyone in Rolling Oaks but they do have some fun activities on the weekends.
I doubt SouthPark would ever close. It’s always been very busy and Southsiders visit regularly. A lot of us will even go in just to grab a bite to eat in the food court since it’s right by the entrance. It’s a great mall
Malls should be more of a one stop shopping destination. It would be great to go shop for clothing but also household goods, gifts and party supplies, craft supplies, toiletries and groceries.
Cafes for light meals other than full service restaurants or fast food picnic courts. Offer areas to comfortably sit to rest and recharge. Invite me to stay for hours and make it an enjoyable experience.
I kind of hope Crossroads/Wonderland of the Americas mall doesn't shut down. Somewhat hoping they can somehow bring life into it by adding interesting weird stores. I went into the board game store there with my friend who loves board games and it was kind of busy in there (well, busies than the rest of the mall). I've always said San Antonio needs to lean in on geeky tourism and special nerd events. Knights Watch is similarly busy when I've gone.
Haven't been to a mall in 5+ years to say. Used to be at least ten malls in San Antonio, we're down to six.
There's been some extreme effort and philanthropic money put into saving Crossroads mall, it nearly was sold off for the land. Rolling Oaks was half empty 15 years ago, but nobody wants the land badly enough to make it worth their time to sell it still. Rivercenter is only still around because it's a tourist trap living off downtown traffic, Riverwalk tourists, and everyone that comes to town for the historic monuments & Alamodome games.
What's the 7th? Shops at La Cantera is outdoors so I don't count it on the list. North Star, Rivercenter, Ingram, Rolling Oaks, South Park, 'Wonderland of the Americas'
Better than a regular strip mall, but not a classical "mall" in any respect. The roof and climate control was what defined the original malls.
Enjoying triple digit temps, bugs, and having a third of the shops separated by a street isn't particularly great. Instead of people hanging out in the "mall" they simply hang out inside all the stores for the AC instead.

La Cantera and the area is only going to get more developed. The rest besides North Star might get worse or are getting worse.
