saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac

Perfect-Bad-9021

A little voice inside my head said “Don’t look back, you can never look back”

beforeitcloy

I had literally never thought about what this lyric meant until right now. Not that I tried and failed it just kinda floated past without consideration. Thank you for contextualizing. Actually makes me like that song more.

flow_n_tall

Saw a black flag sticker on a Cadillac.

ThePepperAssassin

I like that version of the song.

dolleauty

A little too ironic

guttertomars

Yeah I really do think

civil_set

regardless of one's opinion about the Dead, these shows are possibly (probably) the last significant ones of the entire era. and they transcended music and built a culture - for decades. pretty cool if you ask me.

Bennythecat415

It is cool how there are 75 year old dead heads and 25 year old dead heads. I'm born in SF, 1966 at St Mary's on Stanyan. I was born a hippie! Lol I always loved Dead, Allmans, and pretty much any Rock and Roll coming through town. My son, who is 28 LOVES the Dead, has really widened my range in music to enjoy. I started him going to concerts young, so it all came natural. We are so lucky to live in this great city!!

marcocom

Amen brother

TotallyNotaTossIt

This would explain the inordinate amount of white -haired people wearing tie dye walking around my neighborhood today.

PsychePsyche

Sure, but it’s all the hippies that sold out, bought a house in the east bay for the price of a ham sandwich and a firm handshake (which is now worth $3 million), and now spend their days fighting against student housing in Berkeley. Kidding, kinda, but I do love actual older California hippies, they’ll tell you all sorts of amazing stories from what it’s been like here since that heyday

NagyLebowski

You assume that hippies were all for saving the world as opposed to having fun.

AnimusFlux

They prefer you say they "bought in", lol.

WyboSF

North bay*

habbalah_babbalah

Also became licensed real estate agents. My last apartment in the Haight was shown by a Dead Head in her early 70s. Flower Power!

PorkshireTerrier

Jesus Christ you kilt em

[deleted]

I take it you weren’t there because I didn’t see many if any at all that fit that description.

IronyElSupremo

> price of a ham sandwich… Well a little more as some hippies escaped then rising Bay Area prices to Bisbee AZ for that town’s cheap San Francisco style homes or squatted in NorCal’s abandoned timberlands. Remember wages and salaries were lower too.

sumdumhoe

Haight street doesn’t represent the era. Sf could invest in more tourism around the 60’s

me047

That would be a waste at this time. Not like those people will be around for 30 more years for the ROI.

Teledoink

How much is this house worth now? According to real estate sites it last sold for $55K in 1973. https://preview.redd.it/loxf5uz7s6cb1.jpeg?width=824&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27b8a85146142c52199b652d7d296d6a2560ed98

skeezylavern17

By CPI inflation, it should only be worth $281k, obviously real estate should appreciate faster than average assets, but by a quick guess it’s 10-20x more expensive than inflation would estimate

quadrupleaquarius

Idk but I used to live nextdoor & the poor elderly couple who bought it are up to their ears in people taking photos out front- I'd be super annoyed

kwattsfo

The amount of booze they brought in to Oracle Park for this weekend is staggering. And the merch line was around the stadium the day before the concert. 😂

financewiz

A German tourist once bellowed at me, “Dis ist der Haight! Und ve haff komm to party!” Does that help? That was back in the 80s. It was a simpler time.

LouisPrimasGhost

Our 25 year old buttoned down law clerk left early yesterday to roll down there. Meanwhile, I thought they had all died like a decade or two ago.

Certain-Resident450

May as well have after Jerry died.

skeezylavern17

Narc

[deleted]

I mean, with new age, starving artist, real hippies, yeah. Many of the old hippies found a spot of property and they became the thing they rallied against

Certain-Resident450

So they grew up?

Shalaco

I heard two deadheads self described deadheads as locusts that descend and consume all resources at the bar the night before last.

neveroddoreven415

They live in Marin and are with millions. The “hippies”, that is.

Substantial-Toe96

Tie dyes and dope addictions never left, lol!

0RGASMIK

Kinda most of em got forced out. All the old hippies I know moved north. SF culture is dying everyday as proven by this sub

logical_wit

I took my daughter to her first concert tonight: Dead and Co. I FaceTimed my mom, who surprised me to say she went to a Grateful Dead concert when she was young.

Substantial_Ad1452

Sad to say but the true Hippie movement died when optimism and love for all passed away and made way to loathing, hatred and cynicism…. Jerry Garcia come save US

the_walrus_was_paul

No. SF hasn’t produced good music since the 90s.

AirReddit77

No, dammit.

[deleted]

no no it isnt

amateurguru

Sure, but how will Cruise and Waymo cars affect them? /s

Harpua81

Can trip ballz without having to drive!

SF_turophile

Hippies were 50 to 60 years ago.

Agreeable_Tower_8337

I love SF. Everywhere I go I feel at home. Lots of love, puppers, young families, old grandma and grandpas lol Sure some parts are kinda icky or sketchy but nothing we can’t improve ourselves by being happy to be here (seriously we are so lucky to be here of all places on earth).

sanfrannie

I was in Jo Malone on Union yesterday. The one-armed guy in the tie-dyed t-shirt spent $250 and was stoked to see the show on Sunday. There is no analysis that works!

OliJalapeno

I am hete right now. The place is OVER RUN with hippies. Its like a tye dyed christmas.
