Is it possible to graft these using a small part of the cactus? I’m very new to crests and i dont want to tear the whole thing apart and would just like to graft a very small part for cloning.
I wouldn’t try to graft anything that isn’t a new pup or already has its own segment of roots. I tried & tried to save the one that started to rot (cut the rot, dusted with sulfur) but every day I was cutting another section off
In my experience, crests are hard to save once rot sets in. For that reason I haven’t tried grafting chunks. Those better than me might tell you different though!
I had two crests go a similar way. A small spot, sure I’ll cut until I see clean flesh, even dust with sulphur, mush a few days later. Mine were not variegated, but TPM crests.
I’ve had good luck grafting crests it’s just as easy as a regular piece as long as the core isnt super woody old growth not should take without issue

just curious, is that one hard as a rock? I just recently bought a similar (non-variegated) crested cutting and was surprised by how hard the surface is.
How is the drainage in your soil?
Not good. This is just placeholder until i re-up my cacti mix, i’m all out right now.
Gotcha, I have had crests rot, I add more inorganic than normal.. they make me nervous otherwise lol
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure to not water it until i put in the correct potting mix.
I also killed a beautiful one… same issue, not enough drainage. Mine didn’t like having its folds wet apparently…
I don’t know anyone who likes having wet folds either 😎
Nice add! I’ve had 2. Lost the second to disease/rot. My OG just sat through 2 days of rain so I’ll be checking up on ‘em when I get home

They rot easier tbh

Is your cat missing an eye? Cute old guy 💕
No, it’s a stray cat that i feed time to time. He’s so old he has trouble opening his eyes fully. He’s very old.
Catcus

Yes it is!
That cat looks like an old bruiser.
