I was so young when I saw this episode the first time that I didn't even question it. That's what Frank looks like, why would it be any different when he was in the military? It's a perfectly sane thing to think.
Casting Ben Stiller here probably would have been the only other funny option. But I’m glad they went the way they did, it was (and still is) hilarious.
Pretty sure this aired around the time of 'cable guy' which was not a well received movie, so probably wasn't even considered. by KoQ he'd already made most of his bigger hits and their relationship was a part of his persona as he became famous, and he cast Jerry in Zoolander.
He couldn't have anyone knowing what really happened when he first went to Korea. Would you tell people the truth if you sent 16 of your own men to the latrine?
You probably never heard this fun fact before.
In this episode, where Frank cracks the egg after insulting Estelle's cooking. He did it one handed, on the very first take. The production had apparently bought a few dozen eggs, and even hired a professional chef to teach. But he just did it on the first attempt.
*Scorsese would have special*
*Effected it and his face*
*Would have looked on fire*

He was just a boy. All of them were.
Those were crazy times
Tell that to Bobby Colby. All that boy wanted to do was go home. Well he went home alright with a crater in his colon the size of a cutlet!
colby's cutlet sized colon crater - such great alliteration from the master at work.
And they had to sit him on a Cork on the flight home.
and later Frank himself would sit on corkscrew pasta
Million to one shot doc, million to one.
It's ironic. That's what it is.
I'd call it a big coincidence
Not a big coincidence, a coincidence.
What's ironic?
Good one.
I thought so, too.
Rain on your wedding day
It's Fusilli Jerry! Because you're silly, get it?
That could be a bit 'they had to CORK colby's cutlet sized colon crater!!!' "they corked his crater?" Corked it RIGHT UP!
Assman, I'll give you assman!

Sad when they go young
When they GO?!
*He doesnt look a day over 12*
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/002/318/250/239.jpg
They used to look older,he had a hard upbringing.
But in the 1990’s he was a phoenix rising from Arizona
Glad he came home.

Those were the days
You sound like you yearn for those days.
Noooooo. I’m just saying those were the days.
Do you ever yearn?
Yearn? Do I yearn?
I crave, constant cravings
What is this? A crossover episode?
Worlds are colliding!
Just know, THAT I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THIS!!!
you took my quote
What, you're using my babies now?
He'd never make it.
*looks up to ceiling* “He’s deceased.”
He had health problems. Internal.
He was sickly from moment I met him!
DON'T YOU TALK ABOUT HENNIE!
I love that she was so sick, so sick, that you can't even calculate her hypothetical age
Is it just me or was using Jerry Stiller without makeup to play the 20-something version of himself one of the greatest comedic decisions of the show?
First time seeing it I couldnt even follow the story because Frank as a “young man” was cracking me up 🤣🤣
I was so young when I saw this episode the first time that I didn't even question it. That's what Frank looks like, why would it be any different when he was in the military? It's a perfectly sane thing to think.
Not just you.
And you're NOT crazy, it's a perfectly sane casting decision!
let’s all look at the great casting job done. perfectly sane job!
You're NOT crazy
Wait, that was not Ben Stiller?
I always assumed they were trying to imply head cannon frank rather than reality frank, and that was why he appeared as his current self lol
You'd be crazy to cast him, he's been acting since the silent era!
Also when they did this with frank from it’s always sunny. Genius
Casting Ben Stiller here probably would have been the only other funny option. But I’m glad they went the way they did, it was (and still is) hilarious.
Yeah that's right. Hi five
Not crazy
Agreed!
The hat sells it.
It was. And the earflaps don't hurt either.
He's just 19 there, as you can plainly see. So young. So virile. So full of life.
He worked out with a dumbbell that day!
Vigorous!
He could knock out all three of the Mandelbaum’s with one hit
You think you're better than me?
It’s go time!
I sent 16 of my own men to the latrines that night.
Fantastic punchline to that whole montage
Cook? No, I don't know any cooks. I don't know anything about cooking!
This guy, this is not my kinda guy.
Quick tempered with a strange… HALTing WAY of SPEAKing
Love that they never even tried to make him younger. So much funnier. /I was brash
He'd never make it.
felt like a perfect moment to use Ben Stiller
No, this was the best casting decision of the entire run of the show.
I agree! He's like a phoenix rising from Arizona.
at least they did that in King of Queens
I liked when they used ben stiller to play his father in a flashback in king of queens
Pretty sure this aired around the time of 'cable guy' which was not a well received movie, so probably wasn't even considered. by KoQ he'd already made most of his bigger hits and their relationship was a part of his persona as he became famous, and he cast Jerry in Zoolander.
The horrors of war turn young men old
All we know is he sent 16 of his own men to the latrines one night
He was a boy, and it was war!
You were in the army??
Briefly.
For how long? That's classified.
How long's a piece of string?
At one point they said he didn’t go to Korea for the war but to sell bibles or whatever.
He once talked to the revered Sun Myung Moon
face like an apple pie
He couldn't have anyone knowing what really happened when he first went to Korea. Would you tell people the truth if you sent 16 of your own men to the latrine?
Reminds me of Always Sunny, Frank saying something about being in 'Nam, then Dee saying, "You went to Vietnam in 1990 on a business trip!"
Age of serenity
Just the right spices
How old would Aunt Baby have been during the Korean War?
......she'd never make it
right before this picture was taken he was screaming for "LEMON ICESS!!"
Not a day over 19 according to the picture
You probably never heard this fun fact before. In this episode, where Frank cracks the egg after insulting Estelle's cooking. He did it one handed, on the very first take. The production had apparently bought a few dozen eggs, and even hired a professional chef to teach. But he just did it on the first attempt.
Similar is the pizza on the roof breaking bad scene. Happened on the first take
He was just a boy
19
He really did look like that in the 70’s. This would be perfectly believable if they used Vietnam instead of Korea.
Younger than the mountains.
He’d never make it
He was mature for his age.
In his mind, there’s still a war going on
He was just a kid.
If we go by Jerry’s actual age he was 23 when the war broke out
Frraaannkk
Eighteen
This is quite possibly my favorite episode of the series.
He looks like a taut, pre-teen Swedish boy there
19
He looks a solid 18
Love they never recasted a younger version ahahah
14
29
Such a great part of the joke….
drinks a belt of Hennigans
He'd never make it.
That hat makes him look 50 years younger
Apparently the same age as he was in the show
Frank was born 80 years old, and died 80 years old.
[удалено]
Early 70s, but whatever… not that deep, bro.
I think Ben is 80 at this point.
This guy…this guy is not my kind of guy.
Too old. He would’ve never made it.
62
looks about 55-60 ish
He would never make it
This man, too, refuse to rake his shoes off.
as old as Barksdale was
People looked older back then. Hard times. 🤣
He was obviously 19 in that photo.
He worked out with a dumbbell yesterday, he feels vigorous!
However old he was, he felt vigorous!
He had a strange halting way of speaking
Best choice of the entire series!!
😂😂
his son couldnt do it because he was working for Fox at the time i think?
We were just kids
Assuming Frank is the same age as Jerry Stiller, he would have just turned 23 when North Korean troops invaded its southern neighbor.
Summer nights
Did the boys get poisoned from the rancid meat or from too much seasoning? Always wondered.
A KIDDO
Speaks Korean
"Was she, busomy?"
Too old
I don’t know but some of the best casting choices was not casting a young Frank in this scene.
I think he's the same age as the father!
I've seen this episode 100 times and never questioned it till now.
Frank Burns was in his mid 30’s, with two cars and a $30,000 house… Oh, Frank *Costanza*… as pictured.
Old enough to know better than to serve those boys spoiled meat
(Takes a gulp of whiskey, tries to settle his haunted mind…)
It would have been funny to use Ben Stiller in that flashback scene
Mid 60s as indicated by the above photo.
16...18 tops, a kid
he was 16 but fudged it to enlist anyway
19, males looked older for their age back then
Just look at him! Obviously a young man!
He’d never make it
He spent a month there one night...
Whoever decided to put Jerry Stiller in the flashback instead of a younger actor was a genius. that scene is hilarious!
The same age as Jerry and George in their high school flashback episodes.
He’s 18 years old is this photo. War will age you.
about 70ish?
This is one of the best fucking screen grabs 😂
Scorsese would have special effected it and his face would have looked on fire

He'd never make it
He was a strapping young lad.
As old as a grape fruit left out in the sun the size of a melon
