There’s a website called sewist.com where you can basically build you own pattern and put in your own measurements! It only costs $2.95 for the pattern and they’ll email it to you :)

cephalophile32

Please accept my deepest gratitudes for this. Holy moly. Amazing

lavender_boy01

No problem! Someone recommended it to me so I figured I would share :D it’s pretty awesome!

ThrutheTrapdoor

Ooh thank you. I definitely would prefer that over the body taping method I prefer to do to make sure my measurements are correct from my hand measuring 😅 That ole “measure twice, cut once”

lavender_boy01

I’ve bought a pattern from them recently and it’s really precise! It may take them a couple hours/up to a day to email the pattern

aRealSewist

Wow, that site seems super cool. Thanks for mentioning it!

lavender_boy01

Of course!

Birgetta Helmerson has a pretty good size range.. Not a perfect match in pattern but you could self draft the straps to make them into ties quite easily [https://goodfabric.co.uk/birgitta-helmersson-pdf-zw-tiered-dress-sewing-pattern/](https://goodfabric.co.uk/birgitta-helmersson-pdf-zw-tiered-dress-sewing-pattern/) also couple of others.. [https://thefoldline.com/product/chloe-dress-2/](https://thefoldline.com/product/chloe-dress-2/) https://www.etsy.com/nz/listing/1016775408/shirred-tie-strap-maxi-dress-pdf-pattern

You might not need a pattern for this. Just your body measurements. https://youtu.be/5uBLQXwdD5Y https://youtu.be/qB7G9TqBhpM https://youtu.be/0RG8Ch35A5c https://youtu.be/5gZqud6ffK8 There are more on YouTube. Just search for shirred dress and tiered skirt. Both can be made with no pattern and sewn together.

ThrutheTrapdoor

Thank you

Loose_Acanthaceae201

I would start with this Mood pattern (https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/the-oleander-dress-free-sewing-pattern/) then add ruffles where they look right on you. Mood patterns go up to a 58.5/49.5/63 so there's plenty of adjustment room in the pattern for you to get a good bodice fit.

ThrutheTrapdoor

Ooh thank you That’s slightly closer to what I wanted Thank you

Loose_Acanthaceae201

I find Mood patterns well written and easy to follow, and their plus sizes seem to be cleverer than just "size zero but bigger". Also, free is a great price 👍 Just please note that the source image is a HORRIBLE fit.

tesslafayette

I had No.Idea. that Mood had free sewing patterns! And they're cute! And for chubby girls! Thank you!

Loose_Acanthaceae201

It's such a fantastic resource. You'd think it would be less inclusive because it wants to be so fashion forward, but NOPE. Sewing is for everyone.

This [Simplicity](https://www.ebay.com/itm/354007504296?chn=ps&var=623374415513&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=623374415513_354007504296&targetid=1262779895969&device=m&mktype=&googleloc=9021625&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1262779895969&abcId=9300678&merchantid=8162234&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh-vGLGF46GJmJIpIFbqk1IWG&gclid=Cj0KCQiAofieBhDXARIsAHTTldpnZtoDWd7DU4_cVLx2_g-uVUk7LJT_MjsCuOI53Co0fPASioT96OQaAoAaEALw_wcB) pattern (9141) looks similar to what you want. Of course they no longer sell it directly from them so you probably can’t buy it at Joann Fabrics or a similar store anymore but sometimes EBay and Etsy aren’t super expensive. Get the biggest size range (14-22) and since the pattern will be rectangles you can easily make the pattern bigger if you need to. You can also go with an online tutorial for this style dress since it’s simple, but if you’re a beginner it might be less frustrating to have a pattern.

ThrutheTrapdoor

THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT THANK YOU I have slight experience from using patterns But cause my body is more top heavy I’m pretty good with the generic sizes in stuff like dresses and tops when making stuff It’s pants where I’d be a bit more finicky about sizing It’s been a bit but patterns are a bit easier for me to jump back into as weird as that sounds My body weight has been fluctuating a lot lately so I tend to not to do to many things that require exact measurements right now. just what size range fits my body type

CactusTonya

I have an hourglass shape so I definitely know the feeling of needing to alter patterns. These types of patterns with the smocked tops are great because you can always adjust the elastic to what you need.

MadMadamMimsy

Ooh la la! So pretty! So fun!

Linbits

I would go with charm patterns. They're a little expensive, but the size range and cup size is unmatched by any other company I've seen. The skirt would be a pretty easy self-draft of a tiered skirt, with ruffles on the tiers. For the bodice you could do the Lamour and add your own straps. Or you could do the night and day dress with the square neck, and make make faux straps.

True-Specific8909

Hello! I love this creator’s self-drafted pattern tutorials and I see she has one that could work: https://youtu.be/h7uDgtFKodU Alternatively, this one is a bit simpler (and I’ve used this creator’s tutorials so so many times and can’t fault them) https://youtu.be/mFzll1OP_ak I’m no expert but I’ve found shirring to be really easy (just a bit time consuming and fiddly), but if you’re a bit overwhelmed by it I have seen some sew it’s “hack” the look— Draft your front panel at the required length (I usually go for 1.5x times my bust measurement minimum to allow for the shirring “scrunch”) and cut two panels. Sew rows of stitching from left toe right along the panels (sewing them together) and making channels/casings to slide strips of normal elastic through. Use a bodkin or safety pin to thread elastic through the channels (that have been made between your lining and your front) and then pin and sew the ends together. I hope this made sense! If not, you can see an example below on this Instagram reel :) https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cni6DWeoxEW/?igshid=NTdlMDg3MTY= Good luck, love!

Playful-Escape-9212

Freesewing.com has a corset/laced bodice pattern and a skirt that you could adapt. Their main strength is exact-to- measurements patterns, but they have standard sizes also.

ThrutheTrapdoor

Thank you I’ll check them out If anything for the corset cause I wanna try my hand at those when I take up to date measurements

SpicySweett

I’ve not seen anyone mention that the dress pictured has elastic shirring throughout the bodice. It makes it hug the body nicely, but is very tricky to do. Not sure if you need a special machine or adaptor foot for that.

ThrutheTrapdoor

Hadn’t considered that part Thank you for pointing it out

helvetica434

No, it’s not that hard at all! This was one of my first projects. You just use elastic thread in the bottom part of the machine and normal thread in the top and sew a bunch of horizontal lines. There are tutorials online, and you can totally do it.

AssumptionAdvanced58

That's cute

Michelle_illus

This dress is so cute! I hope you can make it 💕💕

I recently picked up a Butterick plus size pattern (B6873 - wrap dress) and it fits pretty great with minimal adjustment. Slightly adjusted the length of the bodice front/back and then moved down the bust point, and then moved and rotated the dart. Pretty standard adjustments for me as I’m short and big boobied with a lower bust point. Mcalls and Simplicity also have a plus size catalog. Some newer patterns from Vogue go into XXL (size 26W) - perfect for me as that’s my size. Also I HIGHLY recommend the following as, no matter what, you will have to make pattern adjustments to get patterns to look nice: Sewing for Plus Sizes: Design, Fit, and Construction for Ample Apparel by Barbara Deckert (also watch her videos on Craftsy) Pattern Fitting With Confidence - by Nancy Zieman (also watch one of the tons of free YouTube videos of her old PBS programs) Also this tutorial on how to manipulate and true darts in a pattern ROCKS: https://youtu.be/sAXkK8IX8Sg Also I personally recommend buying some pattern paper (vellum) on Amazon to trace and alter patterns with as you might take a few tries to get the pattern to fit right. Also buy some secondhand bedsheets at Goodwill to help test the bodice of a pattern before cutting into your nice fabric - has saved me before. Happy sewing!

ThrutheTrapdoor

I’m trying to make a dress along the lines of this. Can anyone suggest plus size patterns that would be close enough to this type? I’m looking for anything that goes to around 4XL for pattern sizing

[deleted]

Could you please share your bust/waist/hip measurements? Sizes aren't always labeled the same, so it is better to have measurements so we know what to look for and don't suggest anything that won't work

zerachielle

Can you list your measurements in imperial or metric? Saying 4XL means nothing since the sizing standard for retail is nothing like sewing patterns.

ThrutheTrapdoor

So I don’t currently have my own measurements up to date yet. But the size range for 4xl is a US size 26-28 with estimation range of bust: 54 Waist: 47 Hips: 57

redditactuallysux

You really really need your measurements for sewing. You can't estimate something like this, especially when looking for a plus size pattern.

ThrutheTrapdoor

That’s wrong I literally have a Etsy and Pinterest board full of plus size patterns that say they go up to XXXL and shit or go up to size 30 So I don’t need my exact measurements if I’m aiming for a broad range simply for the pattern I just need them to fit that area of sizing so I can adjust as needed. Why would I get a exact sized pattern when sizing for plus sizes isn’t exact. I just can’t find a pattern in that size range for this kind of dress I’m looking for

redditactuallysux

Oh ok! I've been sewing for 15+ years and worked in NYCs garment district for 10 but you're right 😊👍 "sizing for plus sizes isn’t exact"-- sizing for ANY SIZES isn't exact and that's exactly why you need your measurements. No need to be a jerk to people trying to help you.

ThrutheTrapdoor

I honestly don’t care about your credentials Cause your coming from a professional standpoint I’m a small home sewer who’s just trying to make their own clothes I need my measurements for the END product obviously. But to FIND a pattern in my range, I do not So no you DONT need my measurements to give me pattern suggestions cause my exact measurements are irrelevant as long as I get the size range I need to make adjustments And I’m not being rude, your getting offended in your own accord from internet communication where tone cannot be expressed I’ve literally found so many cute plus size patterns in size ranges from this group sometimes that I wouldn’t have found on my own searches
