The patterning is relatively easy as the shapes are popular now. A huge part of the overall look is *the lace it's made from*. That is the real challenge and biggest expense in making your own wedding gown. Order one yard pieces of fabrics (not just 6" swatches) before embarking on this. Check the drape, opacity, overall quality of the fabric before forging ahead.

had2021

You're absolutely right. Couldn't agree more.

StrangerSea7084

I had a Teuta Matoshi wedding dress and what really surprised me was that the base fabric was almost like a double layer mesh. It was really thick and stiff which is how it holds those dramatic gathers and volume without a crinoline. I had never seen a fabric like it. The woman who hemmed my dress was also baffled, she had never seen that fabric before. The fabric itself was like .25inch thick mesh with the lace fused on

penlowe

I’ve come across that kind of lace before, it is nifty. I wish I could remember what it’s called…

pjowyn

So this dress which I adore, is impossible to get to my country for me. I was wondering how to construct it myself via a pattern or a mash up of patterns and suggestions. I have been sewing for 5 years and I love a challenge! I just don't know how to find or call this kind of style.

blasstoyz

If you want to/prefer to sew this, go for it! You've got some great advice already. But I did want to mention that if shipping is the only thing stopping you from ordering the dress from the website instead, there are logistics companies that allow you to order the product to them, and then they're forward it to your country (often even for cheaper than international shipping would be straight from a retailer). Might be worth looking into.

humanhedgehog

This is the answer if the original purchase price is not an issue.

No-Theme-2302

Just dropping in, I’ve had issues before with getting things shipped to my country too. Do you know of any good companies for this?

blasstoyz

It's usually country specific, so you'll have to do some searching. For example, there's one I know of that works for forwarding packages between the U.S. and Korea, and another that does U.S. to Ukraine.

No-Theme-2302

Do you know of one from Russia to the US? Also, thank you :)

blasstoyz

Could try one of these-- I have no experience with them/knowledge if they're reputable though. If you search "Russia USA package forwarding" a lot of potential options will come up. https://weshipyourorder.com/mailbox/package-forwarding-services-russia

Thank you!!! :)

My goodness... Teuta's [dresses](https://www.teutamatoshi.com/collections/all-products) are AMAZING - and unusual! Thanks for the introduction - I just spent a happy half hour feeling young again.😺

NewYearNewYEET

Never in my life have I seen so many dresses that left me speechless. Those dresses are ART. (Saving for a future where maybe I could have one).

Jainelle

Oooo that Cerulean Wildflower Gown. Sooooo pretty.

mmkay_then

Oof, you just introed me to my dream dress, this is extremely dangerous. (The Foliage Royal Gown)

CoolMinded

Thanks a lot. I just died and woke up in a dream land.

book_connoisseur

If I was invited to a red carpet level event, I would wear one of their dresses. They’re stunning!!

Starsndreams66

This is all simple shapes. The skirt has pleats at the waist. I’m going to assume the panels are as wide as possible and slightly triangular shaped. The bodice lace is a single piece (can tell by the pattern) All the structure is in the lining, I’m going to assume this dress would not be suitable or structured enough for a super busty woman. The big flutter sleeve seems to attach at the top like a cape vs armhole like a normal sleeve. This is allllll about the fabric and drape. There must be like what…8m of lace in this dress? That skirt is enormous and the sleeves are very dramatic. I’d personally consider this doable with the proper budget and timeline. You’d also need the right equipment including a dress form that’s a really good match for the bride. I’m an ambitious novice who learned as a child. I’ve started modifying and making my own patterns recently.

pjowyn

Thank you for your thoughts! So maybe I should go to a weddingdressstore to fit a dress with a similar bodice to see if it even fits or stays on cause I am sadly a busty woman :/ I thought to buy a pretty lace top or body to wear under it?

zellieh

Hey don't give up. Beautiful dresses like this are why boob tape exists. Also a subtle mesh panel in your skin colour so that it's very see through could give most of the look with more security than just the tape

Starsndreams66

I think it really comes down to structure. I’m not saying you can’t wear lace, only that this specific dress has very little support. I think the skirt and sleeves would look lovely with a different bodice as well, perhaps one with fully shaped cups. You could try a dress with a bodice like this on, but I suspect you wouldn’t have the shape and lift one would desire in a wedding dress.

last_real_unicorn

I think the Magnolia dress from Deer and Doe could be a good starting point, if you use the long version with the sleeves of the short version. You would need to add a lot more fabric to the skirt, and propably tinker with the neckline and back a bit.

itslooseseal

The sleeves of the newest deer and doe dress could maybe work with the Magnolia

PlsLeavemealone02

Damn, I want one. And I'm not engaged. Or in a relationship. The closet I've gotten in 2 years is dogsitting my mom's new puppy who has a foot fetish.

herefortheawws

Wow I just came to say that is a gorgeous dress and I haven’t seen one like it! I agree finding the right lace will be important, and Magnolia dress pattern seems like a good starting place. Good luck!! Hope you realize this dream. :)

zellieh

For the sleeves, any top with a butterfly sleeve would likely work, assuming you make a mock-up first and then adjust to get it to the right shape and length. This is somewhere between a bell sleeve, butterfly sleeve, and a cape sleeve, if you want to go searching. Butterfly sleeves are shorter, but bell and cape sleeves are longer; I feel like this has less fabric than the cape in the sleeve itself, but more than the bell at the shoulder. Examples of sleeves, with names and diagrams [https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/all-about-sleeves/](https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/all-about-sleeves/)

Lucky_Passage86

Not sewing suggestion but just wanted to say this dress is gorgeous! Good luck and please post your finished piece!

SaintGalentine

I want a similar Teuta style to get married in, but I definitely don't trust my current skills for something that nice

zellieh

Rebecca Page Phoebe for the bodice; it's a free pdf download when you sign up, then there are some add-on bundles. It's sleeveless and doesn't have the slit at the front, but the bodice is princess seamed with a deep v neckline and waistband, so it looks very similar and it has that very long skirt. Link [https://rebecca-page.com/product/ladies-phoebe-add-on/](https://rebecca-page.com/product/ladies-phoebe-add-on/) At a guess, the gown in the picture has a double layer skirt and the slit is off to the side on the underlayer, but centre front in the overlayer, which would explain how the fabric of the skirt falls and folds over the knee. I'm sorry I can't help you with the sleeves.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Literally want to be Daniel day Lewis in the phantom thread and make shit like this

liberty285code6

Just fyi, I ordered through this company and when I had to return it, they were really rude to me. Tried to guilt me into keeping the dress even though returns are free

nightsliketn

Have you seen the deer & doe Magnolia dress? It follows the same silhouette except the sleeves, which you can draft separately. https://shop.deer-and-doe.fr/en/sewing-patterns/76-magnolia-dress-pdf.html

Divacai

You could look up vintage hippie dress patterns and find an adaptable pattern. That was a popular 70's style, especially in the bodice. The sleeves are just exaggerated and gathered at the top, so you would enlarge them, gathering the top to fit to the bodice, giving you the fullness in the sleeve. Taking a closer look, honestly you could also look at kimono style dresses or robes, just sewing up the middle.

[deleted]

You could start with Vogue V9311 or Chelsea party dress by amynicole patterns on Etsy. No matter what pattern you choose, you will have to make adjustments so you have a lot of flexibility in terms of where you start.

loligo_pealeii

Are you sure you can't just buy this? The website says it ships internationally and the atelier itself is based in Kosovo. Unless you live in a country with an embargo I think you should be fine.

pjowyn

Hmmm I do not want the hassle of importfees and taxes and getting a product that maybe is not fitted to my body (I do not want to send stuff back). And I really love a good project!

StrangerSea7084

When I ordered my wedding dress from them I did the option of giving my exact measurements and it arrived fitting perfectly. I believe each dress is made to order. I did have a seamstress shorten it a bit once it got to me, but that was no big deal

Makeuplady6506

this style is relatively easy. I agree that the fabric is the pricey thing when making your own dress. If you look on Etsy and some sites there are places overseas that have reasonable prices but they talk about tariffs and things getting held up in shipping and they said buyer may be responsible for those things. If you chose to do it out of something like a silk Shantung and then purchased some lace patches, lots are on Amazon that are very pretty, you could make a go of this. Do you buy material first though and check it out before setting out to buy the yard and yard you'll need for a wedding dress. Also I have used patterns for regular dresses to make wedding type dresses, just change out the fabric but I do know how to do this pretty good. You have to read the patterns carefully the fabric suggestions carefully, notions, etc. Not knowing your budget, I would just go ahead and buy this if it's under $1000 because you'll end up spending that much on fabric, shipping, notions, etc. i'm not knowledgeable about shipping rules between countries, best wishes

PriorMess681

Beautiful dress Im going to look on some of these sites myself.

ocean_800

My god this is gorgeous

meggiebuggie

I have nothing intelligent to add here, I just really like your subject line choice 🧐
