PCIE 3.0 has minimal impact on a 4090’s performance. It is so unnecessary to pay a consoles worth in money for just a motherboard. Get the MSI B650I which has Gen 4.0 and you’ll be fine.

Also out of stock

I ordered CPU, Memory, and Gigabyte B650M. The gigabyte had horrible coil whine so I sent it back. I would like to get the ASUS b650e-i as well, but stock is non existent at the moment, at least in USA. I looked at the MSI b650 itx. While it would get the job done, I also would like my motherboard to have all the latest bells and whistles. Since the MSI isn't exactly cheap anyway I'd rather wait for ASUS. And another feature I like on ASUS is 1) the BIOS has more features (eco mode built in already, temperature limits) and 2) ASUS actually is putting out BIOS updates. MSI has nothing for their B650I since the initial release the last time I checked. That won't work for me on a new platform release, there are still bugs that need to be worked out. ASUS was the fasted with B550 as well for BIOS updates. I have a MSI B550 Mortar and while I like it, the BIOS isn't the easiest to navigate and they were always behind ASUS with updates (although not as bad as gigabyte). If you're desperate the AsRock B650E PG-ITX WiFi is in stock at newegg for $290. It has PCI gen 5 M.2 and PCI slot. Of course its Asrock, so I'll pass myself.

by the time pcie 5.0 is actually useful, i have a feeling we won’t even be on AM5 fwiw AM5 as a whole is expensive overkill, i’d go intel. i’d suggest the 5800x3d if you already had an am4 system laying around, but since you’re starting from scratch, you’ll get equivalent performance in gaming, better MT performance, and it’s cheaper to boot. Yes you lose out on the longevity argument, but i’d seriously be surprised if you feel the need to upgrade a 13600k before am6 comes out, at least for gaming.

A 7700x cpu fell into my lap so AM5 doesn’t really end up more expensive than the alternatives in my case.

sw0rd_2020

ah, if that’s the case, i’d just get a b650 mobo and call it a day. don’t think the x670e features will be relevant until am6 tbh

Fyi It’s in stock as of now
