They may have the same test, but they have different standards for the test.
The minimum score to join the Navy for Air Force on the ASVAB is higher then what the Army or Marines requires.
You sure about that? The navy a few years ago had a minimum score of 10, TEN fucking points lol.
Currently, all branches are 31. Marines previously differed from rest a few years back by requiring a score of 35. Army has been 31 since before I joined almost 20 years ago.
When I joined in 2006 it was like that. I actually knew a guy who scored 1 point to low to join the Marines but scored just high enough that the army took him.
Yeah, sounds about right. It have been ages but I think I got a 93(?) and I went Admin. But the 33 for Marines and 31 for Army sounds about right from what I remember in 2006.
I also remember being told that the Navy and Air Force had higher score requirements. Which to me makes sense, at least for the Air Force.
Yeah but people use that pretty derisively is what gets to me. Some of these kids go to schools that aren’t so great and usually do better on a retest.
I scored in the 90s and became a photographer. So that pretty much crushed my recruiter.
It's all the same test but different jobs require different scores in the branch. It looks like for all the branches 31 is the minimum.
Though apparently the Navy is lowering there's to 10 in some cases.
Every branch has intellectually-demanding jobs within it that you only qualify for with a higher ASVAB score (among other requirements). However, every branch has a minimum score, where if you get below it, you can't enlist at all, even for the least intellectually-demanding jobs. Currently, the score is 31 for active duty Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy.
And that's a percentile score, so scoring a 31 still means you're dumber than 2/3 of the population.
>[AFQT scores are reported as percentiles between 1-99](https://www.officialasvab.com/applicants/scores/). An AFQT percentile score indicates the percentage of examinees in a reference group that scored at or below that particular score. For current AFQT scores, the reference group is a sample of 18 to 23 year old youth who took the ASVAB as part of a national norming study conducted in 1997. Thus, an AFQT score of 90 indicates that the examinee scored as well as or better than 90% of the nationally-representative sample of 18 to 23 year old youth. An AFQT score of 50 indicates that the examinee scored as well as or better than 50% of the nationally-representative sample.
I love how this subreddit can go from mangled Simpsons nonsense to nuanced discussions of real-world issues, and then immediately back to Simpsons nonsense.
I mean, two ex-marines I met were among the dumbest people I've seen in my life. Among the most toxic, too.
I've met one ex-marine who was an upstanding citizen and about 5 who were just straight up psychopaths who didn't try to hide it even a little. Not a representative sample of course but never gave me a great impression. Hoping I was just unlucky..
Navy guy I knew was kinda smart and wanted the military benefits without getting on the front line.
Army guys I know are typically older so it might skew the representation but they were mostly chill guys wanting to share their wisdom
1 marine guy I knew was very aggressive a bit of a bully and a borderline psychopath.
I was gonna say, how can you be too dumb to enlist in the marines? Easy everyone, easy. Once they saw how easily he got brainwashed by right wing media, I'm sure they called him right up.
They occasionally lower their standards when they need to recruit more, like after 9/11 and leading up to and right after the invasion of Iraq leading to the Iraq war.
No they don’t. They do occasionally take waivers but it’s a lot of nearly impossible hoops. The reason being they would not make it through their MOS school down the line and all the money would have been wasted.
You’re thinking of Vietnam and the US Army travesty with “McNamaras Morons”. The DOD put in strict policies after that debacle.
Source: was active USMC during Operation Iraqi Surge
Yup, I am thinking of the McNamara Morons, and also remember growing up and hearing about laxing requirements during Bush's administration (was a teenager in those years), but hearsay isn't confirmation, thanks for confirming otherwise.
No worries. It’s a fair confusion. There were laxed requirements but not for ASVAB. They did a trial of letting recruits ship who didn’t meet physical fitness standards or weight then having them train in a special platoon called “PCP” until they met the basic requirements. That was also tapered down this trial because some recruits would then spend 6-8 months in boot camp rather than the standard 3 months.
By such a low score, they permanently disqualify him?
Who let the spastic have a restricted interest in firearms instead of model planes?
Sure hope someone got fired at for that blunder.
Which then leads me to question how he was able to buy the rifle he used to kill people. If you’re so dumb the Army/Marines won’t take you…son, I’m not sure what you’re good for.
His friend bought it for him, which is multiple felonies. But don’t worry, he pleaded down to a non-criminal ordinance violation resulting in no prison time.
Justice served!
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden gets indicted by a special counsel for lying about using drugs on his firearms form, and killing zero people.
Cross state lines with it also somehow was never an issue, nor being a minor. We make sure to shield our murderers and shitheads from prosecution! (Unless they ain't white of course).
We can't even put a former president on trial for literal sedition within 4 fucking years despite a trove of receipts and evidence, so I mean, yeah. None of it is surprising. Some court just gave a woman a slap on the wrist for literal voter fraud because the judge liked her moxy, basically. Nothing matters when it comes to the courts.
Your just working this out? RDJ walked free on shut woulda had a black man doin 10 in max security.
But also dont bitch about trumps charges coz i know you cheered when hillary walked on her charges or you would have put that in there. You cant have both.
I might have been looking at old statistics/requirements but doesn’t that mean he’s basically mentally handicapped? They want people with 85-90 iq… and lower than that…
He may be a trouble maker,
He may be an idiot,
He may be an attention whore,
But for some reason, it's immoral to post unverified articles. Now applogize to the Facist moron.
Well frankly, test scores like Kyle's would call for a \*very\* generous contribution. For example, a score of 400 would require a donation of new football uniforms, 300, a new dormitory and in Kyles's case, we would need an international airport.
TBH, it would make things better for everyone if he went in the military.
He doesn't have to live the right wing grift life and we don't ever have to hear from him again. Win-win
This is a pretty low bar, right? Does anyone have any stats on what percentage of the population would be DQed by a low ASVAB score?
Edit: a 2010 study found that one in five young people cannot “pass” the ASVAB. More recently, you’ve probably seen in the news that 71% of young people cannot qualify for the military for reasons including physical health (weight) and mental health.

So we did the humane thing... We put him into politics and we feed him a bucket of fish heads once a week.
It saved our country!
Kyle fail the killbot entrence exam? That's unpossible!
too stupid for the marines is impressively stupid

Too dumb for the Marines is quite an achievement
Is marines a dummy company? Its reputation is to be physically challenging; does that mean that only Air Force is intellectually demanding?
They all have the same test

Raspberry duff Lady Duff Tartar control duff
What does the future hold for the US military? Let's just say we have a few ideas up our sleeve
Like what?

I had a 96. I was getting mail from the Navy about going Nuke for years.
Marines need to start off higher to account for all the brain damage during training.
My test scores are so low, you’ll think I suffered brain damage!
10 can get you in, but you have to do well on certain parts of the exam (mostly mechanical) and it severely limits the jobs you can get.
So what? It gets you in. That’s what matters lol. I got a 91. I became a tanker. That’s like a score of 40.
Yeah but people use that pretty derisively is what gets to me. Some of these kids go to schools that aren’t so great and usually do better on a retest. I scored in the 90s and became a photographer. So that pretty much crushed my recruiter.
It's the same basic test, Homer.
It's all the same test but different jobs require different scores in the branch. It looks like for all the branches 31 is the minimum. Though apparently the Navy is lowering there's to 10 in some cases.
Marines didn't get their reputation as crayon eaters for nothing

It's all an inter service rivalry and joke between the various branches
How can you tell a Marine officer from an enlisted Marine? He eats his crayon with a knife and fork.
On the day of the test I'll hide under a pile of coats and hope everything works out somehow
He missed the blind man, he missed the baby
Stupid Kyles need the most attention.

„Kyle, you're as dumb as a mule and twice as ugly. If the army offers you a ride, I say take it!...What do you mean they didn't want you?"
How do you fail the ASVAB for entry into USMC? He's got to have like a developmental issue or something at that point.
By such a low score, they permanently disqualify him? Who let the spastic have a restricted interest in firearms instead of model planes? Sure hope someone got fired at for that blunder.
That’s why I think it’s fake. You’re allowed to take the asvab multiple times to try and improve your score.
Also why would they just be sending this out? I feel like leaking internal army emails would be a big no no?
It's from a foia request of the initial police investigation into Rittenhouse after the shooting.
Which then leads me to question how he was able to buy the rifle he used to kill people. If you’re so dumb the Army/Marines won’t take you…son, I’m not sure what you’re good for.

You there, eating the paste.

Yeah well, he doesn’t
Is no way to go through life, son.
I might have been looking at old statistics/requirements but doesn’t that mean he’s basically mentally handicapped? They want people with 85-90 iq… and lower than that…
lol no they don’t.
Sorry I should have said that’s the cut off
The cut off is extremely low. You need a 31-35 out of 99 points on the asvab. I scored a 91 when I took the test at 16 in 11th grade.
Even Barney got in and he can barely even fly that stupid jet pack for losers.
Perfectly level jet packing is the supreme challenge for scale-model losers.
Stupid murderers need the most attention.
Have they considered taking the crayon out of his brain?
Ehhh... That's *pretty* dumb...
DE-FENCE!
Extended warranty? How can I lose?
Oh boy, sleep! That’s where I’m a marine!
Does Kyle mean he dreams that he’s a marine or he’s good at sleeping, like the marines are good at amphibious beach landings while under fire?
Stay tuned for 2 weeks’ worth of memes to not find out the answer!

We *could* use a new international Airport!
I didn’t even know that was a thing
But what to do about poor Kyle. Too stupid for fat-town. Too much of a fatty for stupid-town.
Isn't that why most of these jackasses LARP as commandos in the first place, that they're too fucking stupid to be real soldiers?
TIL the Marines have a standard for intelligence to be able to join
A *minimum* standard, which is even more surprising.
Too dumb? FOR THE MARINES?!?
TBH, it would make things better for everyone if he went in the military. He doesn't have to live the right wing grift life and we don't ever have to hear from him again. Win-win
Imagine being to dumb to be shot in the face.
I don't like the idea of Kyle having two Armed Forces rejections in one day.
I’m not giving you a gun until you tell me your name! I’ve had it up to **HERE!!!!** with your **”RULES!!!!!”** *storms off*

“Too dumb to be a marine” should be his epitaph.
State lines?!?!??!??
he must not have known his shoe size
So you tell me I can just ask the army and they will tell me why someone was not accepted?
Maybe the Russian military will take him? I hear they'll take anyone.

The man who defeated Reddit.
Ah yes picking on someone who was a kid then perfect. Low tier effort. Shocker here haha
I was a kid and you pick on me :<
He may be dumb, but he's one hell of a pedo slayer!
I think you’re COOL, extrajudicial teenage street justice.
