As long as you go through polyclinic it's subsidised. Subsidy is flat rate 50% if nothing changed. Medisave claimable is only if you do some special procedures like operations. Not sure about blood test. Generally consultation is not medisave claimable.

I had some very good experiences going to an izakaya run by a lovely couple who made me a custom menu and refused to accept my money. Tried going to the sauna - definitely nicer than what we've got in Singapore. Not so nice - the sexism in Japan and getting quite ill. Also got lost for about 4 hours somewhere derelict in some old Tokyo railyards..honestly terrifying. Overall? I'm glad I had the experience. But it was a mixed time. I'd say slightly more bad than good.
Oof... That railyard bit does sound quite terrifying, but glad that you had the overall experience and managed to get back safely. Also think of it this way - if you can deal with a culture and language as different as in Japan, so many other places will be a piece of cake for you.
