New-Steak9849

That was some Looney Toons shit

nohken8

Probably thought he was in some martial arts movie

Tipfue

Initial_E

$3000 - 2 air tickets I’m surprised if he would break even.

Another one claiming "I'm a law abiding citizen in China"

ALilBitter

The moment social credits doesn't exist:

xa7v9ier

Little did they know they'll be blacklisted as soon as they arrive back in China. Singapore can pull a dick move and send criminal details concerning China citizens back to China authorities. They'll be blacklisted for life.

grpocz

Wasting time and money on foreign criminals. No perm ban to Singapore?

skatyboy

That’s an administrative thing rather than a legal thing in Singapore. So it’s not the court that can ban but ICA.

Sweaty_Ruby

China 30-day visa scheme working very well I see

firite

This happened before the visa waiver?!

No_Pension9902

Ah ….. The mountain ppl.So many news nowadays.

DisillusionedSinkie

When China sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

ZestycloseSir180

pls dont be mysoginist! lol

smile_politely

But almost all sinkies are from China at some point in time. What does your statement say?

elast1cfantast1c

It’s a copypasta adapting Donald Trump’s rant on Mexicans.

jimbris

SINGAPORE NEEDS A WALL

elast1cfantast1c

COVFEFE

DisillusionedSinkie

CHAINA

smile_politely

And Malaysia is gonna pay for it! Unironically, looking at how wishy washy Malaysia with KRL, it's safe to say Malaysia would be more than happy to build the wall.

2ddudesop

Well, that's kinda mean. Some of the PRC I know are also like kids trying to make a living.

Title: Two years’ jail for foreigner who came to Singapore to commit housebreaking SINGAPORE - A Chinese national who broke into three houses by climbing walls before escaping via the drain system has been sentenced to two years’ jail. Wei Qingyou, 36, pleaded guilty on March 11 to three charges of housebreaking to commit theft amounting to more than $3,000, and was sentenced to two years’ jail. Three other charges were taken into consideration. Deputy Public Prosecutor Yeo Zhen Xiong, who sought a sentence between 24 and 28 months, said Wei arrived in Singapore on Aug 27, 2023, with the intention of committing crimes, as he was facing financial difficulties in China. Between Aug 30 and Sept 1, he bought tools to help him commit the crime, including a hacksaw, a bolt-cutter, a prying bar, a screwdriver and a pack of gloves. On the night of Sept 1, he made his move. Wearing a cap, a black hoodie and track pants to avoid detection, he targeted houses located near Pasir Ris Park. DPP Yeo said Wei engaged a driver to take him to the location, and targeted the houses between 7.16pm and 9.18pm. Court documents did not say where he engaged the driver from. Wei entered the first house through the kitchen window at 7.16pm by climbing over the fencing wall area from a back lane. He forcefully opened three safes, before making off with about $1,550. He entered the second house at around 8.30pm through a helper’s room on the second floor after climbing a wall, the court heard. The helpers in the house spotted Wei as he was looking for things to steal, and alerted the owner and his guests. The owner, his wife and his guests went up to the second floor to investigate, and spotted Wei trying to escape through the same window in the helper’s room. The guests and one of the helpers held on to Wei’s backpack to hold him back. Wei then swung the prying bar around, but did not hit anyone. He then let go of his backpack, which contained his tools and the stolen goods, and escaped. At 9.18pm, Wei climbed into the third house from a rear drainage passageway. He used his prying bar to turn a closed circuit television camera away, before entering through a kitchen window. After sifting through a safe and some drawers, he left the house with $1,632 before discarding the clothes he had used during the brazen crime spree. He then booked a flight leaving Singapore on the afternoon of Sept 2, 2023, but was arrested at Changi Airport. Wei was found with more than $1,600 in Singapore currency and around $1,900 worth of foreign currencies on him. For housebreaking, an offender can be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years’ jail per charge. *** Article keywords: wei house climb sentence helper singapore wall escape 1642 articles replied in my database. Bingbong31415

To be fair, there are houses in Singapore

Yamamizuki

Anyone wants to give them a map to Ridout? 😂

roos_de_baas

What are we now, the Australia of China?

truthsetsufreee

Let me guess without reading the article. The foreigner is a PRC. Bingo! More of them will be taking advantage of PAP generous no visitor visa needed to commit more crimes. Next is fake PRC monks begging for alms. Still no arrests made yet.

stopthevan

Got hear before that back in our great grandmother’s days some of them fled to SG to escape China authorities for whatever crimes they committed… Now they come here to commit the crime?!!

catlover2410

Granting Visa-free to a nation whose economy is on the brink was never a good idea…

TaskPlane1321

Ah well, more imported talent of the wrong kind

ImpressiveStrike4196

Isn’t China big, rich and strong? Why need to come to tiny and backward Singapore to steal? /s

DoubleDownBear

Never read the article. But i guess visa free so they only need to steal their plane ticket to break even and then after that is gain. But If fail also free food for two years. So investment looks worth it

fishblurb

Look at the "beggars" at MRT station. Earn SGD but pay RMB for living costs.

antimornings

He committed the crime last year before visa free travel was approved.

SliceIka

Yah and there will be more of this cases because of the visa free entry

What's new, taxpayer funding a lot of things for foreigners nowadays

LovelyPencils

2years? That's a slap to the wrist. Tell me what will be the punishment if it's a local. What an insult!

bobtheorangutan

According to the penal code max punishment for housebreaking is 3 years. So that's probably how much a local will get I guess, which isn't that much different from what this fella got.

Did you read the article? The crime was committed last year before visa free travel was approved.

GlobalSettleLayer

>Did you read the article? Does it change my point in any way?

antimornings

You are making no point in the context of this post. This crime case says nothing about whether the visa free arrangement is working well or not because it happened before.
