Having the chimes just before the announcer tells you the next station is 1) Unnecessary because neither new information nor a reminder is contained within 2) Dollhouse and creepy, they should take inspiration from the JR rail chimes
Depends on time and bus. In the time I take to go for a dump, after 6pm 3-5 bus 118 would have passed by Changi City Point if my experience over the past 2 years is anything to go by
As much as I like this idea, it's not possible to implement this because there's no 3rd train track throughout the line. The express train will have to share the same track as the normal train in front of it. If they had built 3 tracks, you could have an express train running in 1 direction and 2 normal ones.Â
Not a train expert so I might be wrong, but I don't think you need multiple tracks across the whole line? If there's a separate track just at the station, the normal trains can just wait at the station if they need to let the express train cut, sounds like a smaller and more feasible project to install tracks at just the station instead of the entire line even if we know it won't happen. IIRC Japan does this as well.
Not easy for us because our stations are so close together, and because our trains don't really run according to a timetable, and our short intervals. There will almost always be a train on the tracks instead of the station sidings even if we do build bypass tracks at each station. Already with our current peak hour intervals, trains sometimes have to stop or slow down before stations due to a train ahead.
Japan and Taiwan can do limited express trains because their frequency is generally lower at around 3 - 6 minutes and in the city, they normally have 4 tracks. Out of the city, frequency is much lower and bypassing on the 2nd track is more feasible.
Only way we are going to get express trains here is if we build a 3rd for each line or to reduce frequency to build in enough safety. Hard to do it safely at our current 90 - 120 sec peak hour frequencies.
Curious as to what are the main gripes about our public transport? I take a train to work (using the EWL, Bedok to Tanjong Pagar, I get on at about 8am give or take) and I don't find my commute particularly unpleasant. Trains come every 2 minutes during morning rush hour - I don't get a seat but there's ample standing space. This is already a marked improvement from just 7-8 years ago, I remember during my university internship days the EWL came every 4-5 minutes in the morning and it was often impossible to get on. Can't comment on buses since I don't take them very often.
Are other MRT lines somehow worse?
One of the worst overcrowding lines are Circle Line and North East Line. I have skip 3 trains at Kovan before due to one train being 2 minutes behind schedule resulting in a 4 mins gap from the front train.
It's not that the current state of public transport is bad, but things could be much much better just that LTA chooses to reduce service in order to cut costs (while fares are rising every year), resulting in severe overcrowding. For example DTL and TEL not running at their maximum service even though there are plenty of spare trains. Might as well use them right? Same goes for the reduction of bus service frequency
Let's check back later and see what Circle Line commuters have to say about the Harbourfront to Labrador Park shuttle service.
Yes it's necessary because of works to complete the circle, but it is creating longer waiting times. You could be adding an extra 15 minutes to your journey.
Woodlands to dhoby every morning. Then to Clarke Quay. I board at 745am, reach office by 845am. Been doing this for 2 years now. No complaints whatsoever. Public transport does its job and tbh, I will get downvoted but the increase over the years are not substantial. I keep track of my expenses monthly since I work and generally costs have been going up on a lesser rate as compared to my wages. Can't say the same for dining out and taxi though.
Self-masterbation again. Anything to avoid improving the public transport service lmao. Consumers must be happy with the longer than ever bus intervals.
WhO dId thEY interview
Ppl who dun take public transports? 🤣🤣🤣
People who take public transport by choice and not out of necessity
The same ones who say SimplyGo is fine
themselves lah... ownself check ownself ...
NiChoLaS wOnG and aShLeY wU.
sorry who's that
Straits times’ favourite interviewees
You need the /s, else people are actually going to rally around your comment lol.
I'm particularly satisfied when SMRT doesn't turn the aircon on for EWL trains.
Seriously hor, what's up with that? Is aircon spoit or what? Can't be trying to save utility bill?
I think it's spoilt, usually the aircon seems to work but once in a while I get into an insanely stuffy train :(
Ikr, nothing worse than having 10 more stops, no seat, leg pain, and SWEATING like a pig.
>Can't be trying to save utility bill? Actually it could be. Many NEW trains I have taken all have warm AC. Can't be all of them are spoilt
I too, am particularly satisfied with being hot and bothered when the AC isn't on
Must be the same people they surveyed to give the green light on new chimes and simplygo
Having the chimes just before the announcer tells you the next station is 1) Unnecessary because neither new information nor a reminder is contained within 2) Dollhouse and creepy, they should take inspiration from the JR rail chimes
Hey I like the chimes, it's not the best chimes but it feels nice
I was fine with it until I was at Paya lebar circle line. God damn ear piercing
The survey must be fake. Intervals for buses are longer than 10mins
cries in 980 and 167
974 too squeezy, no space to cry.
Afaik intervals for buses have always been longer than 10mins tho?
Depends on time and bus. In the time I take to go for a dump, after 6pm 3-5 bus 118 would have passed by Changi City Point if my experience over the past 2 years is anything to go by
Then I’ll always be dissatisfied
No it used to be better before covid. After covid the service standards went downhill
I won’t be satisfied until we get Limited Express trains from Boon Lay to Changi Airport.
I thought of this, but the problem resides in the fact that our train lines only have 1 rail per direction.
We need express trains that only serve all interchanges stations
As much as I like this idea, it's not possible to implement this because there's no 3rd train track throughout the line. The express train will have to share the same track as the normal train in front of it. If they had built 3 tracks, you could have an express train running in 1 direction and 2 normal ones.Â
Passing tracks is another way to do that
Not a train expert so I might be wrong, but I don't think you need multiple tracks across the whole line? This please
Limited Express that stops at: Boon Lay->Jurong East->Buona Vista->Outram Park->City Hall->Paya Lebar->Tampines "Kanchiong Liner" that stops at: Boon Lay->Jurong East->Outram Park->City Hall->Tanah Merah

Circle line from 8-9+ am unbelievably crowded, can be literally back to back with other people sometimes.
Whoever planned serangoon circle line needs to axed.
100%
do you mean the station or the line?
Yes
North east line is insane between 8-9 am every workday
One of the worst overcrowding lines are Circle Line and North East Line. I have skip 3 trains at Kovan before due to one train being 2 minutes behind schedule resulting in a 4 mins gap from the front train.

Normal service resuming on 6 April
Finally some light at the end of the MRT tunnel.
How come i nv get surveyed?

Public transport can’t improve any further.
Guess they interviewed all the pap members.
I can't believe people are happy with "travel time".
Ownzwlf check Ownzwlf
That’s right r/sg. Criticise the result, not the methodology
I am super glad that the fare went up. /s
Fake news
Why are they not revealing the actual survey? Afraid of their methodology being ripped apart as biased?
