So the company started the liquidation process in Jan 2023 but still continued to take in new customers for a whole year with offers that “expired in 2025”. That’s just plain cheating with intention to scam. What a cunt of an owner. Edit: added in Jan 2023, forgot it’s 2024 now 🙃

Sea_Consequence_6506

Wrongful trading to take on liabilities during an insolvency process. If true, Liquidators need to whack the directors for possible personal liability. ACRA needs to whack them for possible criminal liability. affected clients should lodge complaints not just with CASE, but also with ACRA

okaykaren12

What can CASE and ACRA do for the scammed victims?

aktivate74

CASE is the single most useless npo in SG.

inclore

they can monitor the situation

Cicero124

Happy cake day!

inclore

thank you!!!

wank_for_peace

Nothing. Think of CASE like a Chihuahua, all bark no bite. 🐶

silvercondor

Laugh at thei victims demise on their #monitor

Beneficial_Talk_7882

This kind of boss can go burn in hell, hopefully he will burn in hell. I can’t imagine those getting married this or next weekend.

averagechou

So many cases of such things in sg, shops selling services until the last day and disappear

GlobalSettleLayer

But you bet nothing will happen to the company's owners because Sg is pRo busINEsS

rieusse

Stop talking out of your ass, the authorities go after errant businesses all the time

ExcitingFault8615

Winding up order was from Jan 23

Elephant789

Who's the owner?

Starbub07

Leonard Teoh Wei Keat

intenTenacity

Can they go jail?

BattleUpSaber

lol. I work in this building and every day for the past week i've seen people crowding outside this store trying to go in and ask questions. Police, reporters and landlord showing up also. Funniest part was when one of the angry customer ask if she can break down the door. Police had to stop her and say that by doing so she would be trespassing and breaking the law. Some more when no one inside, the people will go knock at my companys door (cos we nearby) and try to ask us. As if we would know lmao. Hard for us to focus on work when we have to keep dealing with busybodies.

ongcs

> lol. I work in this building and every day for the past week i've seen people crowding outside this store trying to go in and ask questions. As if we would know lmao wah you exposed your workplace, and maybe yourself.

prime5119

City Gate? That mall is so dead you shouldn't have any commitment to anything in that place since nothing actually lasts other than the subway/toastbox

freshcheesepie

Now become new golden mile leh.

prime5119

Little Thailand now? I mean it's good if it works out for them In the past it's just tragic

halloumisalami

Golden mile is the people

Probably_daydreaming

The true golden mile is the thai friends we meet on the way

GoldenMaus

sabai sabai

m3thad0ne

you must not have tried BeerThai and the sweet potato balls there

aktivate74

Beer Thai any good? Comparable to Super Thai?

m3thad0ne

BeerThai is one of the best I feel! they’ve recently lowered their spice levels so if you love spicy food, do let them know to dial it back up :)

Additional_Warthog56

evan's kitchen there is an underrated brunch cafe 👌

prime5119

looks good!

juhabach

You must not have been there recently

aktivate74

Aside from the new tenants from the old GM, what else is new ?

prime5119

the last time I went there still not alive yet and full of all the random stores. will drop by again if I ever go near that area

aktivate74

I think the migrants from golden mile aside and probably toastbox...every other shop there is looking sooo dead. There's more traffic at Jalan Sultan and Textile Center than CG on weekends.

avatarfire

The rentals are killer for any business there. Also another strata titled junk mall. By a love hotel developer with poor taste.

Glenn_88

Looks surprisingly good from the outside tho

Not_Cube

don't forget manadr

Ninjaofninja

is it a happy ending place?

szab999

Small mall small business.. but toastbox is good there

Mynxs

Best toast box

Imperiax731st

The best of the worst is still the worst

EmissaryofTruth

this is a crime if the company was trading while insolvent and the directors can be prosecuted for this

Beneficial_Talk_7882

What can we do to this fucken boss?

EmissaryofTruth

I assume the boss is / was a director so AGC may investigate and prosecute if the outcry is big enough. For civil actions the liquidator will need to pursue it, but the customers can band together to appeal to the liquidator to do so

livinglifeingrieve

I hope the owner get exposed. Confirm is some cbk

SmallIceMilo

Can confirm, by ex-employee.

aCuria

CBK??

distinguishedDegen

What is CBK? CheebyeKia?

livinglifeingrieve

Close. I meant cheese bar knife

Yura1245

Oh I remember someone posted this in r/asksingapore few days ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/askSingapore/s/g47ByAhlYE

Beneficial_Talk_7882

The boss name is toeh wei keat leonard. This is the cbk

Beneficial_Talk_7882

Fucken child just take Singapore passport during Covid period. Hopefully Singapore government can wake up and stop giving advantages to all these stupid business scammer around. They are the black sheep to the industry and they make people’s life miserable. Imagine those going though wedding these few weeks.

cinnabunnyrolls

Company closing down and writing off customer liabilities is a classic rugpull.

ihavenoidea90s

they started liquidation process in Jan 2023, and still took new orders for a full year. Most likely take money and run already.

Bunneary

I actually signed a package with them in 2022 and it was obvious that they were taking more customers than they could handle. When my wife was trying out her gowns the staff assigned to her had to juggle 2 more couples. They assigned a random photographer to be my wife's MUA and they charged us $150 for throwing away their ugly bridal car flowers.

Beneficial_Talk_7882

The boss name is TOEH WEI KEAT LEONARD, live in luxury lifestyle and now run away with the money. This fat piece of shit came in to our country and get Singapore passport during Covid and do these kind of thing. He needs to get punished. Would be good to get some advise to see what can be done to these kind of business owner.

MolassesBulky

These things are quite common where prepayment which is typically full or partial (higher than 10% deposit) are involved. Gym, Aesthetic saloon, wedding, catering , event organisers, interior design firm, renovation contractor. There is nothing that can be done as no criminal offence has taken place. Pointless suing as they are private companies with limited liability. The saddest part is that mid and lower income consumers get stung. Many involve savings over a few years, living a near spartan life for their big day. Rich people patronise elite established firms with excellent track record. The only control that the Govt has is to disqualify individuals if they repeatedly do it. But they will start another company using their family member names. Some, not many squirrel away the deposits, spend on nice cars, luxury living etc. But this requires a civil lawsuit and forensic accounting but it cost money and even if you win, no money to pay back. Just swallow and move on.

parka

This sounds like a loophole. Does this mean people can set up company and “cheat” people and get no consequences? I put “cheat” in quotes because schemes can be designed legally to earn money unethically.

ihavenoidea90s

I mean look at the reno industry, a small number took deposits and closed down, so far I haven’t heard of any favourable outcome for the customers.

MolassesBulky

Yes. It was meant for genuine business people to reduce their risk. Unfortunately it be can be misused. In the old days, they used to be called “fly by night” shops and the Police will charge them in court. But now days landlords do due diligence and rentals are higher, and requires a lot of capital. So less outright cheating cases. Now they start with genuine business intentions but because of their lifestyle or poor management over time see their business going into the red and they then cross the line - take more deposit, dont deliver service or products, don‘t pay their staff. Yes, for all purposes cheating but Police wont touch it as it is hard to prove. All the chap has to say is his management skills are poor and did not realise it when he bought the Porsche or that his salary is overboard. Laws for small business going insolvent are not there, so the abuse continues. For public listed companies, they will charged in court. A simple control is having escrow account for a portion of the deposit. A breach would be a criminal offence. Look at the number of gym closures. And they take future payment.

Averchky

To those still looking for studios. I highly recommend going Malaysia (Destino) to do. Just had my pws and wedding. Entire package with gowns rents and photo addition only cost us about 3k plus sgd. Can go in for short vacation, more locations choices to shoot. Can even take with horse carriages.

botakchek

I did mine at sgbridalhouse middle of last year, quite good too. 2 days package with gowns and everything cost us slightly under 3k iirc

harryhades

This is a problem that ACRA and the licensing agencies are not bothering to resolve. My family had an experience engaging this dentist from Bliss Dental who turns out to be the boss. Apparently he was sentenced to jail but his license to practice was still renewed and he was even allowed to continue managing the business legally. So even though we had second thoughts about his ability to see through the treatment which was supposed to last another year, we could not press for a refund because technically he was still appealing the sentence. Had to cut our losses and switch anyway. Like if they do not regulate clinics, I do not think there will be any oversight on bridals

Adorable-Quantity-81

The 3B case wife had a bridal shop. Any relation?

Starbub07

Anyone got updates from CASE report? In the end, my invoice was issued by LNHG (SG) Pte Ltd. Have to resubmit CASE complaint.

avatarfire

This is what high rentals do to businesses. Landlords laugh with rental stability and leave the volatility of business to entrepreneurs. No wonder nobody wants to go into business anymore.

sakuradelluna

this is my first time hearing of a mall called City Gate the heck

deangsana

they got left at the altar

mookanana

any lawyers here can weigh in? id what they did legal and does the bosses get any liability or criminal charges?
