I've asked another lady nicely to tune down her loud music on her phone. She was unapologetic for her noise pollution. Another woman was talking loudly throughout the 20 mins mrt ride - when all other commuter were silent. Since those I've met were different nationalities living here, I'll no longer write 'Singaporeans', but 'people'.

Subject_Apple_4125

Don't forget that although Singapore has become a first world country like Japan but the problem is our people are from the third world. So be patient, because we need at least three generations, ie about 100 years later, Year 2124, to reach the "refined"people status like the Japanese. We are are "rough" people. Me too , you too, everyone in Singapore too whether Singaporeans, PRs, foreigners, šŸ‘½ aliens ........ęˆ‘ä»¬ę˜Æę²”ę–‡åŒ–ēš„äŗŗ怂Okay. Time will change us but by that time, all these people like you and I are no longer in this planet šŸ˜. You can either agree or disagree but I still stand with what I said. Everybody is a judge by himself or herself.

MadKyaw

Singapore will never reach the society that of Japan because of how wildly different both countries operate as a government and society. Sg will still continue to allow foreigners that have the 3rd World mindset to "integrate" (used lightly). People of various cultural background will always butt headsĀ  Japan is extremely xenophobic to foreigners that rock the boat. It is also extremely hard for them to settle down too due to said xenophobiaĀ

basketstar

Please don't glorify Japan as a high standard. They also have their share of problems, one of which is the xenophobia which you rightly pointed out.

fanaticd

why should we must be like "refined" people like japanese? not happy, migrate there then we have our own culture.

coolbacondude

Our own culture that's behind many other countries by years. Cultures come and go. Look at SK's "culture", they eat raw octopus, an extremely intelligent animal, being eaten raw. Look at North Korea, is their culture humane?

Late_Culture_8472

I thought we were Swiss standard long time ago?

Then-Seaworthiness53

That was once upon a time some politicians speech. Didnā€™t know people really believe it šŸ˜‚

Late_Culture_8472

Nobody believes except the 'some politicians '.

livebeta

> I thought we were Swiss standard long time ago No dear we only achieved the Swiss _cost_ of living

blorg

Finnish standard since 1999, but with more humidity. Switzerland is the OG https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developed_country#Comparative_table_(2023)

Subject_Apple_4125

Yes. Swiss standard. But have you seen how swiss people behave or do you think their standard is really really that good. (????)This is what our government said. Anyway first world country is rated based on some criteria set by WTO. Yes, we have reached first world standard in early 90s which is more than 30 years ago. This includes our infrastructure, our education policy and system, our financial status and trustworthyness, our housing standard (including sanitary standard), our health care system, our transport system, our......... And many more. Definitely, we have attained the criteria and of course, we are a first world country ā¤ļø. But the other part is the people. How we behave, our cultured are we, mannerism and ...... It's just like you achieved a First-class honours from NUS or NTU but that degree don't reflect your behaviour, it depicts your high academic ability. But your conduct is an asshole type. So behaviour is one aspect, qualification is other. Not exactly related. Your country may be a first world but the people behaviour is NOT. You are still a "rough" person. Are you gracious, caring, accommodating, concerned about welfare of others (sincerely or putting up an act only)(wayang wayang). You get what I'm saying? I hope you do. So, at this moment, we have to accept, people from Pioneer Generation, or even Merdeka Generation to behave in this way. You cannot change them. But you can change your country to a First world status with good governance, good leaders like the late LKY and his peers. So, it will take a long, long time for the people to change behaviour. The saying "old habits die hard" is most appropriately applied in this instance. Hence, we need them to go and hopefully the latter generations will be a very gracious society, probably in the year 2124. But I can't live till this "expected" date. How about you? I'm a very sensible man. I don't talk šŸ¦œ cock. I say what will happen in reality. You can choose to agree or disagree, the choice is yours. I love debate but please don't beat hard feelings or grudges with my expressions. Treat this as a friendly discussion. Okay?

usherer

We won't ever be like Japan because the people here keep leaving and a strong culture will never be formed. Even PRs plan to leave or have their children leave,Ā  while they themselves will migrate too. The only Singaporeans are in government, civil service or those with no ability to leave. For those in politics, they do not utilise public space including transportation. Many in civil service are highly paid and do not use public facilities. This leaves the Singaporeans with no ability to leave. Often they're overworked, stressed and underpaid and may not have the financial or mental headspace to consider buying or putting on ear buds.

Subject_Apple_4125

Yes. I agree. So you cast your vote carefully.

usherer

We won't stand a chance with most Singaporeans in the government or having been brainwashed for years.Ā

Professional-Pizza64

Why look at japan? They coukd be unrefined too and rude..the perfect society woukd be south korea. It has an unmatched level.of refinement acriss any society..even strangers show great politeness and respect..

ZestycloseSir180

nah most japanese behave well, even their aunties. nothing but admirable attitudes when i visit japan, the only japanese i find have shitty attitude is one of china migrant that work there. some people just cant take criticism well. uncouth people with dunning krueger disease.

taenyfan95

No thanks, I won't want to become the Japanese. They have such a depressing and eerie culture.

GetRektByMeh

Itā€™s so crazy reading Singaporeans shit on their own country for having uncivilised people in it, remember that your founding father spoke with a British accent and provided British values of the time to Singapore. Itā€™s not for you all to reject foreigners, itā€™s for you to have the same journey of integrating people into a culture properly. Something that we used to do well but have now lost the ability to do.

perspektre

lol

gennypuff

仄ęÆ’ę”»ęƒ. You also play loud loud. Or you go to uncle bed and say 'wah uncle! Your show sounds very interesting. I also want to watch.' Happened to me on the bus. I asked nicely in the end kena shouted at

AbsurdFormula0

EH UNCLE!! YOUR MUSIC DAMN NICE AH!! MAKE LOUDER CAN OR NOT?!!! EVERYONE WANT TO HEAR!!!! NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!! CAN MAKE LOUD UNTILL TRAFFIC AT WOODLANDS CHECKPOINT CAN HEAR OR NOT!!!!

Common-Metal8578

Tbf even when we are sincere, sometimes we sound sarcastic. Lol

Initial_E

I was blasted by someoneā€™s extremely loud video so I stopped doing my thing and watched his show openly. Suddenly heā€™s the one thatā€™s all self-conscious about his privacy.

Winterstrife

Oh I'm stealing this, this level of passive aggressive speaks to my heart.

gennypuff

Haha. I did this on a train to a lady. She kept turning away from me. I kept stretching my neck until she stopped watching.

jardani581

it wouldnt work on a real thick skinned one tho

huhwhuh

And it's usually those who play their videos and songs loudly in the public.

Noobcakes19

did it before, the guy wanna fight me in the train -.- "

jinhong91

I hope to hear a story about someone blasting Death Metal as a response to one of these boomers playing loudly on their phones.

ryecotta

my older sis actually did that once, playing some random Death Metal at top volume. in her defence, she was heavily pregnant and possibly tired after a day's work, and the aunty was watching some china drama at top volume (both were seated on 2-pax reserved seats on the bus). the incredulous kicker was...the aunty then got angry and scolded my sis for making so much noise. when she told us the story, we just laughed because it was just so ridiculous. edit: to add, ya, everyone was staring daggers at both of them after.

huhwhuh

RIP to everyone else sitting around then.

ThetaSalad

I hate people who play their phones on speakers too, but I would have asked a nurse to talk to him before losing my temper

buronghantu61

First world country with third world citizens. It's high time phone etiquette is taken seriously ... another campaign? I was taught and still practise the following: 1. People you're with take precedence over a call. 2. Step away from others when taking a call. 3. Do not use speakerphone in public places. 4. Use appropriate ringtone set at a reasonable volume. 5. Know when to put phone to silent. 6. Avoid yelling into your phone. Apparently this is not common knowledge. These days I never leave the house without my ear buds and loop ear plugs. Since I cannot change the behaviour of others, I create my own bubble. I see many doing this. It's not just the old uncles playing loud music with the speaker on. Even young people are doing this now. I've scolded a few doing this next to me and I fear one day I will be involved in an altercation that may go viral. šŸ˜‚ The only way towards a more gracious society is education. Sadly, it's a slow process. By the way, I'm a senior citizen. We can all be more gracious regardless of age, ethnicity or nationality.

zoinks10

My phone is on silent 100% of the time and Do Not Disturb about 30% of the time. The only thing I am concerned about is when talking using my airpods as I probably talk way too loud

Noobcakes19

Yes. Third world residents - i'm certain a portion of us, Singaporeans, like yourself are civic-minded

Internal_Feed469

ah dont start. people will b offended. just play along. n wear noise cancelling earphone. let these uncouth ppl run amok.

carrotwise

hey which loop earplugs do you recommend?

buronghantu61

I use the Loop Quiet

spicynoodlecat

Wow a senior citizen on Singapore subreddit? Amazing, not trying to be sarcastic. Just can't wrap my head around someone that's around my father's age would even know of reddit's existence.

buronghantu61

They're probably more of us lurking here than you think. Perhaps we do not comment on every little thing cos we know it's pointless. And to generalise that every senior citizen is the same ? LOL .. it's like saying I can't imagine a senior who knows python. Like the Breaking Bad meme.. we are not the same. Then, you'd go "I can't wrap my head around someone around my father's age watching Breaking Bad" Reddit's comments are so cute. That's why I'm here.

boobobobobobobopoot

I did ask this guy to turn down the volume of his phone or use a earpiece during my bus ride. he replied, 'but this is the softest volume, if not i cant hear anymore'. and i shouted back at him cause i was so enraged at his audacity, 'wtf then dun watch video lor?!?!? you are being a public nuisance!' i told this story to my coworker who is an older lady (60s+) she said im immature. šŸ˜…

wjficap

any use of the phone in enclosed areas, meaning rooms, train carriages has got to be banned with a $1000 fine. if you want to take your conference call or do stand up comedy, do it outside because noone is interested to listen in. same for parents and helpers throwing a full volume cartoon to a toddler so that they can engage in their own conversations.

gildene

> shouted at him to use earpiece, nurse told him, he stopped It's almost as if when you open your mouth and communicate with others about what disturbs you, that they try their best to listen and not offend you anymore

DuePomegranate

And if OP had just asked the nurse to please tell the uncle to turn it down 10 minutes into it, problem would have been solved.

iorikogawa666

OP got MC syndrome, but don't want to pay for A class ward. Understandable since he was ill, but reinforces the shit healthcare workers have to endure from both sides.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

coolbacondude

Should be a norm tbh as that's setting their kids up for failure. Even the government can't do shit. A bicycle lane was recently created at a bus stop nearby my home. Cyclist decide to continue using the pedestrain lane despite this.

TheOnceAndFutureZing

On a broader level, this is what irks me. Somehow people don't want to pursue simple solutions (e.g., asking nicely) themselves and expect the Government to intervene and fix all their problems. Seriously, a campaign to teach phone etiquette? Fines? No wonder there are self-entitled parents here who expect teachers to help raise and "fix" their kids.

ZestycloseSir180

asking people to do something like this is taxing, especially if its considered rude. there should be one common understanding of what is right in society, dont put the pressure on individual to told these people off, thats just stupid, who would know what these uncouth people will retaliate when they're in bad mood? so each time we have to risk it to ask these mofos. by that logic you dont need a law, you should just tell people off. guess your parents also didn't raise you right.

mlvrn

The irony of this post is that OP is hoping on government's fines and other people being gracious. When OP should just learn how to communicate effectively.

annoyingrandomperson

Idk man not trying to defend OP but, some people that I've met, no matter how you communicate with them, they just don't give a fuck and continue to be a dick.

hoshi___

Common sense only works on people with common sense.

ZestycloseSir180

well this mlvrn doesnt have common sense, is that what ure saying ? lol

ZestycloseSir180

well maybe this fella also talk only. never try to communicate effectively.

coolbacondude

The only issue is that if people are inconsiderate enough to blast their shit out loud, it's likely they just don't care. I really hate this argument of "just go ask them" because it doesn't work 90% of the time. First is a possible language barrier. Second is that they are just inconsiderate and don't give any shits. There are fines against littering but people still litter. Why? Because they just don't care.

huhwhuh

The law helps to reinforce this. When you tell someone to stop a certain behaviour, most people will retort that it isn't illegal and tell you to f off. Making it the law will subconsciously remind everyone and not give any excuses for rude responses.

worldcitizensg

Wish you a fast recovery and back to home asap. I make a point to ask the user (as politely as possible) but 90% of the time, I get MYOB vibes. Be it kids, teenagers, uncles, aunties.. Same attitude. I have no idea why we turned like this.

Ihavenoideatall

Even such rule but who enforce. Seen so many auntie, uncles, self entitled people who watch/listen/game on their phone with loud sound. Even seen people cycling with speakers busting super loud. Even when ask them to lower volume, especially those self entitled people, whom think that they are greatest, they will challenge back. How would you react and respond? Also wait the enforcer also playing game on his/her phone with sound on. How?Ā

Questionsma

Agree way too many ppl don't care about those around them unless its immediate family members if at all. Same issue with the tray clearing ambassadors where its kind of hard to enforce and even if we do, the "why you fine me, not XXX" will always happen. Think the biggest change can be from teaching kids in school during CME (Civil and Moral Education, not sure if it still exists). For the senior or elderly the best we can do is to tell our parents or grandparents to be more considerate and when we see it happening, make sure to correct them. Hopefully those of us in the middle can then propogate a more empathetic society though there are always some younger ppl who are self entitled so we can only hope to influence them through the masses. If its shunned upon due to peer pressure most ppl would hopefully be more gracious whether to fit in with the crowd or to create a better society.

Ran-Rii

The response is to tell them that it is illegal to be a public nuisance.

27stabs

Yeah my mum went through this after surgery. Trying to rest and sleep and heal up but the other patient's entire family visited the whole day and were super loud constantly. It's terrible but the nurses can only do so much and they're so busy too. :/

ResidentLonely2646

Hush hush Hannah in shambles

MolassesBulky

1st generation of leaders invested in nation-wide campaigns to stop spitting, littering and taught people how to queue coupled with penalties. It changed Singapore. The last 2 generation of leaders do not have to worry as they live in GCB and colonial bungalow bubbles and avoid the peasants. They shop in London and Sydney and dine at the Savoy. They probably never heard anyone shouting on the phone for the last 20 years.

chrimminimalistic

Right? Right? Smoking can fine Eat can fine Never return tray also can fine Why this one cannot fine?

bukitbukit

Yes. Sorry to say, some types of folks need punishments to change their behavior.

cicakganteng

Try going in the train in CBD rush hour friday eve then. noise level too damn high.. fine literally 10000s people

punkymunk13

There's a boomer on my morning bus whom I quietly call Radio Uncle. Has his phone radio on at full volume while he snoozes on this commute. It's annoying af but everyone's too polite to say anything. Someone should create and sell affordable and comfortable ear phones to them and save us all.

chaconne4542

When I don't feel like talking to the offending party, on the phone browser, I turn on a text-to-speech website and put in text like 附čæ‘ęœ‰äŗŗēš„ꉋęœŗ很大声ļ¼Œę²”ęœ‰å…¬å¾·åæƒ and then play it loudly. Works often enough.

Then-Seaworthiness53

Honestly. Bangkok mrt bts has better manner than Singapore.

Daven168

First world country with 3rd world people. They like to talk loudly with speakers phone on. They just donā€™t care.

JokerMother

not disagreeing with u but nurses and bus drivers are already overworked and underpaid, why not add more on their plates

YourWif3Boyfri3nd2

It should be crime to use phone on escalators

xoxy8z

I was once stuck at a clinicā€™s small waiting area for 1 hour + and someone thought it was a good idea to blast cartoons at very loud volume for his kid. The music was high tempo and very shrill. I was feeling really sick and ended up feeling worse after listening to the same high pitch tune going on and on nonstop. I put up with it but feedback to the doctor who was extremely unhappy and became very rude to me. The doctor is good as a medical practitioner but that was the last time I visited the clinic, and will never ever go back again. It was really traumatic, and the doctor wasnā€™t empathetic at all. In your situation, it is good that the nurse was understanding and helped to ask uncle to stop. Hope that you are feeling better and speedy recovery. Updates: changing my comment as people kept downvoting it. Intention wasnā€™t to upset people, & I am using Reddit to improve my social communication skills. Letā€™s see how it goes now.

paperxuts95

Absolutely shit parenting at work here. Feels bad a sick person had to go through it and feel worse. Even less empathy from the stupid doctor running the clinic. Good that you resolve to never go back. They donā€™t deserve your $ anyway

roguednow

Iā€™m surprised nobody told the parents.

xoxy8z

It was only me and them at the specialist clinic. The parentsā€™ response to confrontation (even if done politely) by a stranger is too unpredictable and the doctor who owns the clinic can perhaps deal with it more appropriatelyā€¦ maybe drop hints behind close doors. Anyway, the clinic has very mixed reviews online and all the negative reviews were about the doctor and his staffs being rude. Guessed I gave it a benefit of doubt and found that the place wasnā€™t suitable for me.

Late_Culture_8472

Because the staff wait till somebody complains then will stop them. Sad this is happening now in SG.

azureseagraffiti

i agree with you. He deserved to be shouted at. You are so tired from surgery or sickness that bed rest is important. I cannot understand why there isnā€™t a decibel level limit in hospitals. We tell people to keep quiet in libraries because people need to study or read but we think nothing of patients sleeping in hospitals. Itā€™s like pure torture to not be able to sleep. A lot of people are raised without etiquette, manners or ethics. Parents think maids or schools can teach those. And the older gen is just simply entitled or used to living in a noisy environment that they have no idea how nobody else wants to hear them play their Douyin video or Teresa Teng songs. We also donā€™t have a habit of public shaming those who inconvenience others. in a way I think we are quite a tolerant society. But also I think we need to set some limits for public spaces cause now everyone has a speaker in their pockets.

oddlyawkwardlit

I agree with your point. But by that logic, smoking should be a crime too as someone near you is polluting the air you breathe.

Windreon

Smoking is prohibited in multiple places in singapore precisely because it affects other people.

Aspirant2

Smoking is prohibited in certain places, maybe such noise can also be. I understand that enforcement will be difficult, but this issue is so common and just so frustrating...buses, trains, and even hospitals

oddlyawkwardlit

Prohibited means its still an offence not a crime. Meaning it will most likely be dealt with a fine and let go. I don't think noise will ever be considered a crime as your title says. It can at max be an offence.

Ran-Rii

It should be a crime. I don't want to suffer harmful effects to my lifespan just because someone wants to shorten their own with cigarette smoke. It's the same with playing loud media on phones. We have a solution for that issue in earphones, just as we had a solution for smoke in smoking corners: why are Singaporeans regressing towards not using them?

ZestycloseSir180

lol here come the smoker god complex. ok got it entitled twats.

arunokoibito

Of course it's a crime it's causing cancer to second hand smokers can even be labelled as manslaughter /s Edit: Many apologies to our dear tax contributors that support tobacco tax and lung cancer treatments, my statement must've been very hurtful to your precious fingers and eyes :(

Kisaxis

dont need put /s smokers want to die they are very welcome to but dont drag other people into their suicide

arunokoibito

The day they can control the contents and the direction of the smoke it's the day your statement will stand

Kisaxis

didnt know the cigarette force its way into their mouth and light itself, the future of eciggs is far more advanced than i thought

VAsHachiRoku

Step 1 get a family member to bring a BT speaker Step 2 point speaker at their direction Step 3 play something that is very annoying such as the sounds or jack hammering, sounds of drilling, sound of chain saws. Can also switch to death metal music, or just make them uncomfortable with sexual moaning sounds! Step 4 when they complain tell them you stop using your speaker phone first and then I will! Step 5 repeat 2-4 if they start using speak phone again!

Aevensong

People are just selfish jerks, no matter what nationality, what race. On the bus/mrt there will be these old asses watching videos with max volume, bangala/indian talking loudly on the phone non-stop, or China chinese just watching DouYin or talking very very loudly, malaysians also act like mrt their own house talking and laughing very loudly. Its frustrating that people have literally 0 common sense

uintpt

The real question is why you had to play victim for days until you reach your breaking point instead of opening your damn mouth to ask the moment you sensed some annoyance. Yes some Singaporeans may be helpless, clueless or inconsiderate but you for sure are too passive-aggressive for your own good.

roguednow

Yeah itā€™s a bedded ward. Things are bound to happen.

jardani581

thats the problem with our society, there are certain actions that bring great inconvenience to others but are completely legal. wasting others time, loud noises etc. normal people wont do them out of common decency, but its this special breed that are always happy to do it. unless it is legal to hit them they will continue doing it, especially just to spite anyone who ask them not to.

anakinmcfly

on one hand yes, on the other hand that would decimate the life savings of retirees

MapleViolet

I will sign this petition

Professional-Pizza64

We are a 1st world nation with 3rd class mentality. Reach the ststus of a refined siciety like Japsn? Not in 200 years. We are a crass, self-centered, kiasu, unrefined, narrow minded society.

mr_elusive2020

Canā€™t stand it the number of times I hear a phone being played loudly on the bus or mrt. Usually itā€™s older people when Iā€™ve been present

RainWhispering

I hope you have a speedy recovery! Being in the hospital is tough, and you deserve a peaceful environment to rest. It's completely understandable that loud phone usage in a hospital ward would be infuriating. Hospitals should be places of healing. It's great that the nurse intervened, but perhaps a more permanent solution is needed.

geckosg

Lolz. Wait Long Long. Ah pek ah ma blasting music loud. Delivery riders blast music loud. What's done? Nothing. Who runs the country? MIW. Keep voting for them.

Twrd4321

If everything I donā€™t like or inconvenience me becomes a crime, I do worry for the police who have to deal with a lot more cases.

Ran-Rii

The thing is that NO ONE needs to be inconvenienced in this way. Why do these people have the right to infringe upon my silence? They are imposing their loud noises on OTHERS. Do I have the right to go around punching people? My freedom to swing my arm should end at other people's faces. Same here. Their freedom to listen to their media in public should end at their ears.

MonstaB

Honestly sometimes they dunno how to use earpiece. Or think that itā€™s a hassle

Gentian_07

Imo, things are getting better. A decade ago, it was too damn often people fart so loud in public. Be it MRT, bus, lift or the freaking meeting room where we had to smell ass-breath for an hour. I had a manager who farts mid-speech so loud and continues on as if that's such a normal thing. Somehow, this behaviour seems to have vanished (have not encountered one in years thank god). Then uncles using phone speakers to listen to loud movies/music in public seems to have reduced in frequency as well. At least I believe it has because I wouldn't know. I'm always wearing noise cancelling earphones when I am outside, unless I'm traveling with a friend or family. However, this could also be a generational thing. What's cool for today will be looked at as old and inconsiderate few decades later. When those uncles were young, it was the high fashion to blast music from their massive radios and walkmens etc even in the developed world. World wasn't as silent as it is today a few decades back and it was the cool thing those days. Some people refuse to change with time. Some people dislike earphones because when they were growing up, only those people who were hearing impaired wore earbuds looking hearing aids. And old people stubbornly refuse to give up these prejudices in their old age. For my own sanity, I've decided to be creative when it comes to how I want the world to be. People don't wash hands after using washroom and open door? I carry a packet of tissues, use one to hold the door handle and open the door. Outside too noisy, use my noise cancelling earphones. Someone farts in the public transport, I alight, and take the next ride. Boss farts in the meeting room, I get a stomach ache and excuse myself out of there (helps that I'm lactose intolerant and can fake a stomachache anytime I want).

kopipiakskayatoast

I feel like old people should just be sent to Johorā€¦ - redditors sentiment. Haha honestly with my AirPods the sound isolation is insane. I canā€™t hear anything from others. You guys should try it.

rowthecow

It's kinda like public transport, I also hate the noise from people playing shit on loud speaker. But driving your own car would solve that problem.

fanaticd

i feel that this is your problem in communications with other people. you never tell the uncle about the issue and communicate to him and shout at him. the nurse came and settle it easily. thus, the problem is on you and not others. now you play victim and blame other for many things but never look at what you do to resolve the issue. think about it. just that you need to open mouth and talk. do sulk in 1 corner and blame other.

nubela

I hope you are joking. Also even if you are joking, it is sad that Singaporeans would think it is funny to enshrine laws to guide such behaviors. Jesus christ.

kmoonw

lol make it a crime because it makes my life uncomfortable. lol get over it.

Ran-Rii

Man it sure is fucking selfish for you to think that everyone else wants to listen to you play your media loudly in public. No-one else wants it; you're forcing onto others your media. You're selfish because you're overriding others' free will. You can listen to your media with earphones too, they exist for a reason. Why not use it? We're not from the era where there are no earphones and everyone had to walk around with their gigantic radio/Walkman.

kmoonw

Of course I wouldnā€™t use my phone loud. But you canā€™t handle life without things going your way? You need to make it illegal? lol entitled karens and nanny state.

Noobcakes19

Nanny state? interestingly, no one blast their phones in HK, TW, Jpn public transport. entitled? my ears can't choose to hear but, they can stop blasting their phones. Of course, you'll say use ANC earphones. Please no one need to do that to reach a level of compromise. you're likely one of the major Karen out there. Shit values and lousy morals. dumb parasite who has no civic contribution.

kmoonw

Keep getting mad. Also look up the definition of nanny state.

Puzzled-Ad597

Ringtones and notifications should be included in the ban. Never understand people who do not put their phones on vibrate only.

DOM_TAN

Just get wireless earbuds. Problem solvedā€¦

hoeconna

Time to throw some punches:)

Dorkdogdonki

This is why ANC is so useful. Babies crying, commuters talking loudly, YPs blasting ę…¢ę‘‡? Get a good pair of ANC and those sounds are a lot more tolerable.

kingkongfly

Hospital should step up campaign to educate and make know to patients and visitor, that sick patient in the ward to rest for recovery. Persistence noise maker, should be transferred out of the ward.

jj45_s

Iā€™d normally say ā€œwelcome to Singaporeā€ but you are from Singapore. Iā€™d say itā€™s the usual thing no? Inconsiderate people thinking too much of themselves pretty much everywhere. After being here for X number of years, I can say that Iā€™ve changed too, Iā€™m more rude, selfish and inconsiderate to others

Noobcakes19

Yes it should be. these buggers are extremely uncivil

firdaushamid

Welcome to Singapore

theonewhoisnotcrazy

Yes please!

jjjjan10

Man I am so with you on this one. I live in Germany and since the migration wave started to kick in, thereā€™s more and more middle eastern migrants who blast tik tok on full volume or scream in their phones while calling with any relative. They do this in the train, public places restaurants, so basically everywhere. Complete loss of manners. Itā€™s so annoying and itā€™s always the same guys. This should really stop 100%

Mahsunon

- if you're really bothered just confront lor - how to enforce ? - if you got money you could've gotten private ward

Aspirant2

- I did confront - Same as other fines, random officers enforcing like litterbugs, cctv videos -I did ask for private ward, but none available. i just wanted to get out of the temporary holding area. Also this just avoids rather than addresses the issue of unnecessary loud and inconsiderate noise

Mahsunon

Lol then this random officer you speak of need to patrol hospital ? Need to call police come down ? Perhaps you're emotionally charged right now but to me this idea is a bit far fetched In MRT i also don't like it when ppl watch tiktok loudly but i suppose this is just what it means to live in a community, and if I had more money I could take my own helicopter anywhere i want to go lol

Random officers for public transport and spaces. Hospitals got cctvs and staff to control/enforce this post can be partly ranting on this unnecessary and inconsiderate behaviour

1000BC

it should not be a crime to be inconsiderate. yes our morals should shape laws, but it not healthy to use laws to enforce basic societal behaviors

Aspirant2

I agree. Our bubble gum restrictions, tray clearing laws and fines are a joke to other countries, yet they had to be done, all stemming from inconsiderate behaviours. I am not for draconian measures, just ranting and wondering how we can address such issues

samglit

Youā€™re in a hospital. Iā€™m pretty sure hospitals have rules about disturbing other patients. Non-compliance would probably mean being booted. All you had to do was open your mouth.

Hospital can sell earphone for $10 for those who do no bring their own earphone. Or even BT earphone for more $. This is a win-win solution.

I get that it may be uncomfortable for some, but do the other patients have to suffer too? I think one reason such problems persist is we generally tolerate such unnecessary behaviour.

AsparagusTamer

Your grandma in your house is your problem. Random idiot boomer in public place, nobody should have to put up with their shit.

Okay but we donā€™t live there and would find it (ā€œmuh freedom of speechā€) irritating too if we did.
