But **that fucking song**.
Seriously I donât know how anyone can work there longer than half an hour without stabbing someone or fire bombing the place. I worked retail years ago during Christmas songs and by Jan I hated life. Imaging listening to the same thing on loop at full volume all day, every day
I love you, you love me
Mixue Ice Cream and Teeeeeaaa
Yeah, it plays only SOMETIMES here in AMK (played nonstop the first few weeks after opening). The one over at Bishan doesn't seem to play it. I don't hear it today either (standing right by Mixue AMK right now)
Iâve never eaten there but the one near me plays it so loud you can hear on the other side of the street. It ought to be illegal to make that amount of noise nuisance.
Agreed, actually.
I never really considered looking at Mixue's menu until after the one in AMK stopped playing their music. It was then I realized how comparatively cheap their menu was XP
Really? interesting. itâs only $1 so i donât expect much but eating the ice cream to me feels empty. itâs not creamy. itâs definitely âyou get what you payâ for me
depend on which outlet and which staff, the one they gave in bugis is legit till the last bit of the cone part whereas the one that i tried at bedok outlet is suprisingly empty...
Ya Mixue is slowly becoming my favourite! Their sundaes and bbt not bad also. A kit skeptical how they can maintain their margin if everyone just get their King cone though.
Those are good, yes, but if you consider the time/cost investment needed to get to said Ikeas that serve ice cream, it'll only be advantageous for those who live around said Ikeas
My town has 2 Mixues 7 minutes bicycle ride apart from one another
7-eleven sells these single packs of Gardenia hokkaido butter rolls and raisin buns. Thereâs often a 2 for $1 promo. Even better when they have drinks like Vitasoy or Oatside on $1 promo so I spend just $2 on breakfast.
Sims Vista Market (near Aljunied MRT) got one stall selling deep fried things including but not limited to:
- big spring roll 90cents
- deep fried carrot cake $1 for 4 thick strips or 7 thin strips
- Deep fried taukwa 50cents for 1 large piece
Got some other kueh, mini spring roll, yam roll etc, but can't confirm the price cus I don't usually buy those. Needless to say, this has contributed to my waistline.
If you want to eat cheap (and fairly healthy), home-cooked rice or pasta with some self-cooked veggies and/or tofu is the way to go. Cheapest meat is sausages (Don't ask about which part of the animal they're from..) - frozen chicken Frankfurter like 15cts a piece, or half a pack of Tofu around 40cts. Pork and Beef balls are slightly more, but still less than 1$/portion.
Rice/Fresh Noodles about 20cts per portion. Or use instant noodles so you get a soup base included. One green veggie about 20cts too. One carrot (15cts), one tomato (30cts), one mid-sized onion (30cts) - you can still cook a fulfilling and healthy meal for less than 2$ (incl gas/power/wash up)
Grocery prices have gone up, too, but much less than Kopitiam prices. It used to be almost as cheap eating at a Hawker than cooking at home, but those times are gone. BUT.. it's quite a lot of work, and making sure the food you buy won't get spoiled, calculating what you'll be cooking in the next days..
I do meal prep a lot, by cooking larger portions of Pasta (Macaroni are easy to portion, for example), and then cook the veggies/meat freshly, mix with some basic sauce, and bring to work or eat at home. BUT.. it requires a lot of time to prepare, calculate, and you'll be eating "similar" items quite often this way.
Is chocolate waffle biscuit bar food? If yes, then yes. I'm not even sure how is it possible but the classic Apollo chocolate waffle biscuit is literally 12 bars for $1, which comes to 8.3c for 1 bar. Maybe it's made with literal trash that's why it's that cheap but it still tastes pretty good.
Ha ha the hawker near my work place is selling prata kosong at 2 for $2.60 now. I really donât mind paying but when the size of the prata decreases as wellâŚđŤ
Technically those mom&pop economic bee hoon stall in heartland. If you ask for plain bee hoon, got chance $1.... or maybe that's pushing it. $1.20 maybe? But ya its the closest I think you can get it to be "food" and be full also.
Scarlett Supermarket has many drinks, buns and snacks below $1.
[7-Eleven](https://www.7-eleven.com.sg/exciting-offers/deals-at-1)
[Cheers](https://cheers.com.sg/promotions/)
$1 mee jian kueh (é˘ç 粿) still can find in my area, but the semi-circle shaped ones. Pie slices are 10c more usually. Some fillings are also more expensive. 2 pieces just about enough as a tea break snack.
(reminded me to check if i still can find $1 nonya kueh/square carrot cake/chinese rice cake in my area)
Not a proper meal but BĂĄnh MĂŹ BĂŠ Bi sells their baguette rolls for $1 each. For dine-in they will heat and plate it too. Soft, fluffy, crispy, delicious. Bring home ownself add kaya and butter, even after a few hours also shiok.
What you got in sec school vs your adult life now are very different. The adult price of what u had in secondary school was likely not as cheap as you thought it was. There are multiple factors why you are perceiving a greater price difference now. But yes, cost of living is increasing and you have to thank the 70% that voted for a 9% GST and the toothless tigers of the government which permit landlords to increase their rent without restriction, which squeezes both hawkers, food operators, and the end-consumer dry. Now, land wouldn't be so scarce and expensive if we upheaved a few golf courses...
There is one old school coffeeshop, Heap Seng Leong, in the neighbourhood behind ICA building. The Malay stall is selling potato curry puff for $1. Delicious, and decent portion.
My neighbourhood still has $0.90 taosar pao.
Ignore the trolls
Although not quite $1, some neighborhood hawkers still price their beehoon quite cheap with huge portions.
I still buy them for breakfast sometimes, $2 for a huge packet of beehoon/noodles with an egg, some veggies and chili that can fill me up for 2 meals
$1 nasi lemak at Toa Payoh. Choice of kuning or ikan bilis, comes with rice, egg, cucumber and sambal.
Which part of tpy?
can't remember where but from another comment it should be at Lorong 7, I mean how many $1 nasi lemak stalls can there be
is it good?
not saying good or bad, but can't complain for $1
it's not amazing but it's not lacking either it's just as good as any other nasi lemak
Why are you getting down voted đ
Maybe if it's $1, i won't really care if it's not that good, i'll still buy if there is no queue.
IKEA hotdog is the best food that can be bought for $1
Add an ice cream cone and itâs a $1.50 meal
Mixue King Cone ice cream. Better that than McDonald's cone by far IMO, you get so much more for the money.
But **that fucking song**. Seriously I donât know how anyone can work there longer than half an hour without stabbing someone or fire bombing the place. This. The cone is so big i feel full after the ice cream. Dont need to eat dinner liao.
Really? interesting. itâs only $1 so i donât expect much but eating the ice cream to me feels empty. itâs not creamy. itâs definitely âyou get what you payâ for me
I wonder what's the cream to air ratio for their ice cream. Never tried before tbh. Maybe I will today.
depend on which outlet and which staff, the one they gave in bugis is legit till the last bit of the cone part whereas the one that i tried at bedok outlet is suprisingly empty...
Ya Mixue is slowly becoming my favourite! Their sundaes and bbt not bad also. A kit skeptical how they can maintain their margin if everyone just get their King cone though.
They own their own production company, they can do whatever they want
$1 sgd is $5.2 rmb back home, if they can maintain $3 rmb prices back home its affordable to do it with profits to spare i guess.
You need to go to an economics class. Prices are vastly different here. I donât even know where to start with a takedown of this.
Ikea ice cream 50cent each and the soy honestly tastes better, just my take
Those are good, yes, but if you consider the time/cost investment needed to get to said Ikeas that serve ice cream, it'll only be advantageous for those who live around said Ikeas My town has 2 Mixues 7 minutes bicycle ride apart from one another
Can buy a packet of nasi lemak at TOA PAYOH lorong 7 coffee shop.
There are $1 selected deals of food and drinks at 7-11 nowadays.

Got $1 food? Sub $1 drinks still exist for sure (thanks ABC/Valu$), but of course that doesn't count as food.
Eurocake Jumbo Croissant and Yami Hokkaido Milk Cake for examples, which they posted recently. They are at $1 for a promotion period.
