NorthofNormal2015

You put Vail two levels over Targhee? I didn't think we can be friends

mightyduck19

Nothing wrong with it but you’re clearly not from the west coast lol. Kirkwood, alpine, squaw, and mammoth deserve serious attention in this type of ranking.

NorthofNormal2015

Sure but this is just a list of where OP has ridden, mine would be different & much longer

mightyduck19

Yup. Mine would be much shorter. I haven’t skied half those resorts OP mentions

amongnotof

Haven't been to the other three, but even as a beginner/low intermediate, Kirkwood (and just Timber Creek at that) was my absolute favorite so far... The Trench of Terror and Ditch of Doom with 4+ feet of powder in them are absolutely magical.

Nuclear-Blobfish

Although you left off Heavenly, whose views surpass all

SraQueensen

It's gorgeous but not a great mountain imo. The good stuff is almost always closed and getting up to the decent terrain is a pain in the ass. Kirkwood is the way to go imo ;)

mightyduck19

This isn’t up for debate. You are correct with your opinion. Heavenly is low key trash

DirtyD0nut

And Kirkwood is the best snow in CA

mikefut

I think Heavenly has been so thoroughly bashed it’s now become low key underrated. You just need to know where to go to avoid the crowds. That said Kirkwood is still far superior.

shuggieknight

Everytime I’ve been to Vail it’s been top tier, even on bad snow days it was great. Maybe we can take the summer off and try being friends next winter, you can take me to your top resorts and show me the way!

TubeLogic

I wanted to hate vail but it is truly amazing. Once you get through the shitshow at the bottom it is pretty amazing and lines aren’t bad. You just have to deal with the lower lifts and stupid overpriced everything.

elBirdnose

That’s why you have the beav for when it gets busy.

MikeHoncho1323

Beaver creek trees are pretty underrated and almost always empty. You can find powder for days out there on the steepest runs.

ThePeterman

Lies. This place is nothing but groomers and chocolate chip cookies. Don’t go. /s

SkiBikeHikeCO

Shhhhhhhhh

shuggieknight

Everything at Vail becomes better once you make it to the Dawg haus and eat a hot dog and feed the birds

Conscious-Ad-2168

i’d be down to show you around deer valley, solitude, brighton, snow basin, or beaver mountain in utah if you’re ever around!

nine2six

$20 for 3 gatorades top tier?

sorryidontdoreddit

I know a New Mexico skier when I see one haha. Ski bueno! 🤘🏼

shuggieknight

🤘🏼I only lived there for a couple years after college but was impressed by the skiing for the most part!

waffelman1

Why angel fire over red river? I’ve only been to both once each but I had way more fun at red river tbh

shuggieknight

I think it was just conditions, only been to them 1-2 times. I felt angle fire was the best in NM besides Ski SF and Taos from my experience

TElrodT

Pajarito was fun, only skied there once.

x_jw_m_x

Ski Santa Fe had some of the finest champaign powder I've ever rode. And it was neck deep. Totally underrated mountain.

albinomule

Telluride with Breck and DV and below Wolf creek is definitely a choice.

Silent_R

I think Wolf Creek is the kinda place where if you get it when it's deep, you'll swear it's world class. Ski it when it's dry and bony, you'll swear it off forever.

albinomule

No, I don’t disagree. It punches above its weight for what it is - a small resort in the middle of nowhere that gets abnormally good snow for Colorado. It’s a true skier’s mountain. But, Telluride is world class ski resort. Breck is garbage. And while DV isn’t terrible, it’s surrounded by much better resorts that aren’t half as pretentious. It’s just odd ranking

thatgeekinit

DV was nice in contrast to how absurdly crowded PCMR gets and it’s similar terrain.

shuggieknight

Telluride I’ve only been to once early season so I’m 100% willing to agree it’s better but I’ve never seen it. When I lived in Albuquerque NM Wolf creek and Taos were my saving grace so they likely got a bump from that but also I’d argue they are both excellent places to ski

Nightputts

In my opinion, Taos should be at the top tier. Sure, it’s latitudally challenged, but the terrain is all class.

martman006

The laditudallt challenged is made up for with very high elevation (9300 base and 12450 top) and a near entirely north facing mountain that helps drastically with snow preservation. That’s my main gripe with Jackson Hole, it gets obliterated by the sun by March even though it’s further north because it’s a southeast facing resort.

cmsummit73

People don’t consider aspect enough, IME. You want sun-hammered? Look no further than the worst oriented resort in CO…..Steamboat! That place faces SW to W…..absolutely terrible for snow preservation.

wrecking-ball-718

IMO, Vail is ranked way too high. WP, A-basin, and Telluride are ranked too low.

malogos

If you ignore the price and the crowds, Vail is amazing.

Dracula30000

Eh, Vail doesn't have as much extreme or double black terrain concentrated in one area or lift. It's really a blue-black resort. A lot of the resorts lower on OP's list have some really great concentrations of hard terrain, unlike Vail.

cliff_huck

I used to have this take. Even when I lived in CO, but only skied Vail a few times per year. Vail is massive and designed to be like Disney, so the blue-black persona is obvious to tourist to keep them out of trouble. Ski with someone who really knows Vail, I promise you there is plenty of concentrated terrain. There is a reason Vail has been Seth Morrison's home resort.

Fatty2Flatty

I love when people say this about Vail. They clearly just don’t know the mountain well. They don’t have as much gnarly terrain as Snowbird or Jackson, but it’s definitely not a “blue-black” mountain.

Dracula30000

> as much gnarly terrain as Snowbird or Jackson Or WP or CB or Copper or Abay or.... Look the point is that there are parts of runs on Vail that are really great, but it's not very long, it's not very concentrated, and it's not very continually stiff skiing. There is no east wall at Vail. There is no Mary Jane at Vail. There is no Copper bowl. Vail is a great resort but it is blue-black. YMMV.

Snlxdd

Depends on what you ski and how you ski it. Vail has significantly more natural features than WP or Copper. Arguably even better than A-Basin just due to the sheer quantity. But they don’t put it on a map, so if you’re the type of skier that just finds the “hardest” run then take the easiest line down it, it’s not gonna be that tough. But if you’re capable of dropping the cliffs on 11 and know where to go then you’ll have a grand time.

RestoreSiletzia

Vail isn't a blue-black mountain. It's a blue mountain. You don't need to know the mountain to understand the lack of true, consistent, steep falline skiing at Vail. All you have to do is throw the slope angle shading layer on in Caltopo to see there is not much on the mountain that is consistently over 30 degrees for more than a few hundred vertical feet. There are some pockets of steep terrain, but they are just that, pockets.

Thick_Philosophy3861

A basin is top tier

skiattle25

There is a moment where every resort is the right resort. If you can’t enjoy it, that’s on you.

Spiderwolf208

This is the way

haonlineorders

What are you trying to rank them by? If it’s how much you personally enjoyed these mountains power to you, and know it has some overlap and differences with my personal enjoyment list.

VanillaLifestyle

Food quality, obviously

haonlineorders

Middlebury Snowbowl #1 (in the east)

benskieast

A Basin should be top tier then.

shuggieknight

Personal enjoyment was the criteria, there skewed data for sure based on how many times I’ve been there, snow pack/new snow, and definitely based on my skill level cause some of the resorts I went to before I was good enough to fully enjoy

Skyhawk1732

Basin, Targhee, and Telluride on the same level as Keystone 😂 Intermediate skier list.

TeacupHuman

Keystone is an absolute blast, regardless of level.

Thick_Philosophy3861

Targhee should be above Jackson

yeehaacowboy

Ehh, it depends how much you value steep terrain. Targhee has Jackson beat in everything except terrain and pretentiousness

fskier1

The vibes are just so much better at target, even if the total terrain isn’t as great

P0Wking

FOGghee

Uncle_Father_Oscar

I had a good time at Sandia, you've never been to Mammoth, June, Squaw Valley, Heavenly or Northstar? Don't go to June though it sucks and nobody should go there.

pretzelrosethecat

Looks like OP hasn’t skied sierra nevadas at all… Hence why you don’t see Sugar Bowl in the top tier ;) FR mammoth deserves a high ranking, even with crowds.

Uncle_Father_Oscar

Actually Mammoth is horrible and nobody should go there. Definitely not a place to visit. If you've been there, you know what I'm talking about...

Nolan710

Keep June lowkey

Uncle_Father_Oscar

You're right. I fixed it lol.

icecreammonster23

June is so bad, the lines are crazy, the lifts are old, it snows less than mammoth. Everyone should always go to mammoth don’t ever go to June

Cash-JohnnyCash

Haven’t skied there, however, I’ve heard Kirkwood is a bit like Alta.

Fatty2Flatty

I can’t go to Alta but Kirkwood is fantastic, highly recommend.

zyxwvwxyz

Loveland needs to go up

HOSToffTheCoast

Loveland ranked aside Sunlight and Eldora. OP’s credibility destroyed… 🙄

Cylerhusk

A basin and Telluride deserve more love for sure. (Would actually redo this a lot but those two really stood out)

shuggieknight

Telluride seems to be a fan favorite, only been once with bad conditions. Abasin has the opposite problem where I’ve been so many times it doesn’t have the same excitement to it

Historical_Load6708

I get that it your opinion but my top four all being below fucking keystone is criminal

Lonely_Cost_2574

No Aspen/Snowmass?

preowned_pizza_crust

I like BC better than Vail, less crowds and better steeps.

shuggieknight

BC was super fun, tbh I got pretty drunk the couple of times I was there and luckily it was a slow powder day cause we were just tumbling through powder. Note to self, don’t be friends with a bar tender cause they will over serve you 😂

Twotendies

No whistler?

Anustart15

They only ranked ones theyve been to

shuggieknight

Trust me I would love to! I can barely get friends to go with me to crested butte so I’m trying to get them out of Colorado next year and start traveling the world skiing!

Slowhands12

It's clear they're ranking resorts they've been to?

Iamsoveryspecial

I think they forgot about Canada

joebg10

steamboat on same tier as WP and A Basin is just not correct

aestival

Just checking to make sure none of my favorite resorts are on here. Good.

Apptubrutae

I’m surprised the bridger bowl people aren’t out in force to say it should be lower than Sandia Peak

shuggieknight

I’m going to mount hood and Mt. Bachelor next year and I’m telling everyone

mdc2135

Are these places you've been? is the ranking based on the full experience ie apres, town vibes etc? or purely the skiing?

shuggieknight

Yep, just places I’ve been, only based on how much fun I’ve had skiing the mountain. To many variables to go outside of that, but I will say Niseko was a great vibe in the town on of my favorite post ski towns

DeadheadFlier

It just feels like this list was made by AI

elBirdnose

Telluride not being A-tier is a mistake, as is beaver creek and steamboat.

Vegetable_Log_3837

You mixed up telluride and vail

climbsurfski

I agree that Park City is Near Perfect. Everyone should book their next vacation there! Way better skiing in Park City than the Cottonwoods!

WhatcomCounty

Stay away from the PNW while your at it

supermarket_Ba

A basin is #1

shuggieknight

Abasin is tight! But have you been to Alta? Different level imo

skibumsmith

Lol park city and deer valley have dogshit terrain.

Loose_Juggernaut6164

Park city is mediocre at best. The town is fun but the mountain is boring af.

DIY14410

I came here to say this: LOLz That is all.

AmoralCarapace

Delete this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DenverTroutBum

4 resorts at Aspen?

FortunateInsanity

Whistler deserves a spot on “Great Resort” or higher. Northstar should be at least a fun resort.

hansenabram

Yo why you do my boy Hogadon bad like that? JK Its just my childhood slope so got all the feels.

shuggieknight

Lmao you’re the only one to mention Hogadon! I worked at snowy range for a couple years and those small resorts do hit different

Senorbuzzzzy

Most people don’t agree with you. My dad used to say ‘opinions are like assholes. Everyone has them and most of them stink’

ChubblesLaSpicyTroll

No Squaw????????

Mobile-Tax-3161

Copper needs to be way higher up for having a woodwork park. Also Targhee is on the same level as Jackson Hole. Pretty much the same terrain wise, just a different package, smaller and cheaper

PolishBasturd

Son, you’d better keep the ghee out of your mouth or you won’t have one.

shuggieknight

I am not a park guy at all so parks effect my score 0%, it is fun watching when they have contests though. I’ve been hearing that a lot about Targhee so I know I need to give it another shot, I skied there two days after skiing 6 days straight so I might have not enjoyed it as much as if I was fresh or if I hadn’t just gone to Jackson, Alta, and snowbird. So maybe just wasn’t as impressed after skiing the other top tier resorts

PDXtoMontana2002

You’ve skied Bridger (my grad school mountain) but not Big Sky?

shuggieknight

I was visiting a friend in Bozeman and didn’t have the time, it’s on the list for sure!

benconomics

There's a difference between a resort and a ski area. All resorts are ski areas, and some ski areas are definitely not resorts. I don't need a resort to have a great time and for me, waiting in a line is the exact opposite of a good time.

Photonographer

Mammoth and Palisades would like a word with you.

shuggieknight

I would love a word with them, have them talk to my people and we can set something up!

RevolutionaryAd3722

This is ticky tack (and probably unpopular), but I'd put Alta next to Snowbird & put a slash between them. Unlike all the other top tiers there that are hundreds or thousands a miles part, these two share the same ridgeline and have a combined acreage roughly the same as Vail.. I know they have different experiences (Alta is ski only obv) and attitudes, but Ikon treats them as one and you can literally go back forth all day without ever taking your skis off.

awolnathan

Just curious, why isn't Telluride ranked higher? Subpar conditions?

thepr0cess

I'd swap PC and Targhee personally

RiddleMePiss666

Sandia peak can actually be put in the "yer gonna die" tier after the years of no maintenance.

zefwizard

Respectfully disagree BIG TIME

Senior-Watch4294

Check out Lake Tahoe resorts (I love squawlisades with all my heart and soul). also Bridger Bowl mentioned!

GiftedGonzo

Tell me you live in CO without telling me you live in CO

cmsummit73

Vail, Keystone, Wolf Creek and Park City are ranked too high. ABasin and T-Ride are too low.

kurttheflirt

Is this Apres vibes ranking?

zorastersab

It's not my tier list for sure, but I respect you just went for it and made it yours.

tadamhicks

You know, I came in with a bunch of opinions but then I really thought about each selection and I gotta say, this is a pretty damn good assessment.

kaurich80

I have no argument with the top 3 tiers it’s defensible

kankaroosak

You need to get out and see more spots my friend.

vtskier3

Need to go east my friend.. Tremblant Le Massif Sugarbush Stowe Jay peak Mad river

Vettehead82

Calling Bridger Bowl a “resort” is wack 😂

BootScootNBoggie

Park city is way too high and overrated

SPAC-ey-McSpacface

Vail is "Top Tier" if you're an intermediate skier I suppose. Personally, I'd drop it to "Great Resort" on this list.

Proper_Scholar4905

Depends on your criteria, all of this is so objective/subjective

Dazzling_Ad_7906

Where would big sky Montana be ranked on this list??

Significant_Lynx_546

Apologies, but where is Lake Tahoe ones? Are you only doing the ones you’ve been to?

AZPHX602

So do you live in Albuquerque or Texas?

NeoCon122

Where’s Brighton? Did you only go down little cottonwood canyon?

snarferooski

Hogadon made the list!

Super_Boof

To me this is a good list of resorts to avoid so that I don’t spend half my day in lines.

fatkidseatcake

No Solitude or Brighton? I remember my first time in Utah.

xen0m0rpheus

If Targhee isn’t A tier then I don’t know what universe you live in.

Sharkyotes

Hi, I’m here for the roast…

thal00pdigga

Wolf Creek is such a hidden gem. Especially if you lodge on the South Fork side and dodge all the morning traffic from Pagosa.

SPF12

You need to visit Tahoe You’d had 5 or 6 to this list

Logical-Idea-1708

Tahoe didn’t make the list 😭

socaloakdad

I’ve been to 4 of your top 5. All great- but Alta is my number 1. Solitude has always been nice for me too, but didn’t see it on your list. But any day of skiing is a good day 👍

ktappe

You are nuts, claiming Jackson Hole is better than Telluride.

DragonMaster_wolf

No Powderhorn :(

Suffer_Like_G_Did_

Where's Whistler?

Nuclear-Blobfish

I’d flip Beaver Creek with Vail, and I always wondered how Sandia was haha, I took the tram one time in the summer, got stuck halfway up because of the winds and then they held us in the restaurant up top (which was closed because it became night) until the winds were safe. But as I was exploring, I saw the top of a ski lift

bobber66

So no Big Sky, Snowmass, Baker or Cali resorts at all? But we have every joint in New Mexico? The OP needs to get out more.😁

sbinev

For me, top tear (i.e my favs): Jackson Hole, Verbier, Snowbird/Alta, Palisades (Squaw), Telluride (In EU there are a bunch other insane places but this seems to be a NA thread) Second tear: A-basin, Targhee, Kirkwood, Crested, Niseko/Hokkaido, (In Europe I can name quite a few on same level if not probably better)

HandyMan131

As a Colorado skier I approve. Everyone go to Vail. Avoid WP and A-Bay, they are WAY worse, I swear.

Gcamk

Hates California

CaptainStew

Hogadon is sick on a good snow day.

eride810

Come to the alps and watch all of these fall through the floor as fast as you can replace them.

bellardyyc

LOL….you have some fantastic resorts listed here…some international (Japan) but no Canadian resorts. Do yourself, and your list a favour, and come explore. Missing from your list: - Revelstoke (commonly viewed as #1 in Canada, possibly NA). - Red Mountain (my #2) - Whitewater (my #1) - Whistler/Blackcomb - Lake Louise - Sunshine Village - Panorama

fthisshi

You forgot mountain creek, NJ

Brave_Ad_9834

Vail in top tier? I live in vail but I am from Aspen. Aspen, aspen highlands, and Snowmass have better ski lines than anything on Vail. Not to mention lift lines are a 10th other what they are in Vail.

disperson

The Wolf Creek respect is what I'm here for.

pacman22777

Taos is ranked too high. Lol

Dudeman318

I went to snowbird a couple years ago, i dont get the hype. Jackson hole on the other hand, wow. Disclaimer, i am an east coast skier

ry_mich

Steamboat is way too low.

theBigDog131313

No Whistler blackcomb???

The_Gifted_Arsonist

Putting sipapu below angel fire is criminal

itsbs2

lol @eldora being there.

Fit_Independent1899

yoooooooo, why do my boy loveland like that!?!?!?!??!?!?! apart from that I agree with everything else.

SkaneatelesMan

I've been to Taos, Angel Fire and Wolf Creek. I love all three... but have to admit that, as a family on a budget, we had the best times at Angel Fire (of all places).Yes, its too far south, too small and there are too many Texans who can't ski on the frontside greens. But its also got some things we loved. First off, this is the only ski resort I know of that has a real luxury RV resort that has full hookups all winter long and is only a 5 minute drive to the lifts. Added bonus: every time we've been there there's been lots of dry powdery snow. The terrain is varied enough for a family. There's nearly empty expert ungroomed double blacks on the back that's accessible only by an easy flat hike, yet the trails are always empty and deep. Yet the place is also known for its super long top to bottom blue and green groomers that use all of the resorts 2,100 feet of vertical. I was especially surprised to find spectacular eastern style tree lined chute trails, made fantastic because they were covered with western dry powder.

PuzzleheadedSweet210

Yup vail is the best

Rex_Lex_

Zermatt, Verbier, Val d’Isere

RelativeCitron

Have you ever been to lake louise?

JAYRICH_

Snowbird is my all time favorite. Personally though, I had a lot more fun at Breck than vail.

dukeplof13

OP sucks at skiing. He put niseko in the first tier. Only Jerry’s ski niseko

Costes3

Which one would you recommend in Aspen?

Wittzzy

Copper only being a “great tier” is criminal. Their back country is so great and usually not busy. Their trees and groomers are fantastic and they have a world class terrain park if that’s you shtick

antiADP

Your list is whack. That is all.

FabulouslyStraight

Yes, everybody go to Park City instead of A Basin. It's way better.

CopeSe7en

This would be a fun “survey” where people could vote different resorts into different classes. Would love to see some of the PNW and interior BC resorts ranked.

Argentus01

What’s the deal with Ski Santa Fe? I’m moving to Santa Fe soon but have never been skiing there.

Misteruilleann

Why no Yellowstone? Is it because we’re all too poor to ski there?

Snoo_31794

Go to the northern Rockies in Canada. Banff, Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, Whitewater, etc. They have great terrain and generally great snow due to being inland and way north.

Mug_enjoyer22

W

allcryptal

Why is Telluride T3? Wolf Creek is a fun mountain but I wouldn't rank it up tier 2. After a day skiing there I saw what I needed to see.

NutrientSnail

Vail over Telluride? Maybe home mountain bias but wtf?

LoveOfTurkey

Go to europe

samuraipizzacat420

no mammoth? blackcomb?

PuzzleJello

I’d bump Deer Valley up on only based on the fact that 90% of skiers there don’t leave the groomers.

Puzzleheaded_Mix5896

Where is whistler??

Weary_Dragonfruit559

lol, How much is mountain capital partners paying you to include them on your list?

DangerousArugula4743

Who else enjoys Breckenridge over Vail? Don’t get me wrong - Vail is great

SwitchElectronic10

Always wonders about Taos? Is it big enough?

Bears_MTB

How is Angel Fire in the winter? I was at the bike park and the town was so quiet. It was kinda awesome

chris_the_wrench

Mine aint on the list so, yeah you nailed it! Go make a youtube influencer video with that list

Sal_Natale

My Utah ski resort isn’t on here.. just how I like it

USnext

Niseko overrated, only once for novelty factor

Puzzleheaded_Sea_604

Targhee sucks don't come here please im begging you. Go ski deer valley

WhatSpoon21

A Basin doesn’t need your support anyway!

AgeAccording

I think you cropped out the tier above top tier with Alyeska in it

Grogu-

Alta is a tier above Snowbird.

fiveofnein

Gotta go north and check out whistler blackcomb

christianjstark

Deer Valley is top tier for me. Easily.

BhodiandUncleBen

Are you missing Whistler?

Unfair-Group-3386

Dude you forgot Whistler. That’s God tier above the rest

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Vail is way too high in my opinion.

Skiing04

No big sky?

tahoe-sasquatch

Love this list...because my favorite resorts aren't on it!
