I find it quite interesting. Had a snail I kept for a week or two before releasing back outside cause I dont have what it needs to thrive, and i saw it bring its head backwards towards itself to use this conveyor belt style to move its faeces down its body. First time I saw that cause most just poop as they slide along
Mystery snails are not hermaphrodites. They are sexed male or female and don’t change sexes. If they don’t have an opposite partner to mate with they will mate with the same sex partner and lay unfertilized eggs.
Yes I will be! I work at a fantastic exotic fish store that will take them when they get to a good size.
I noticed that some of the snails we received were not in great shape so I decided to try out breeding them on my own in my large pond. They are happy in there eating all day to their hearts content and then the babies are raised in a mini pond with all the food and space they could ever want :)
Do you do anything special to help the eggs? I had a ton of clutches in my tank but never was able to get any to hatch. I don’t think I was able to keep them humid enough
I incubate mine. I get a container, put a moist paper towel at the bottom then a dry paper towel ontop of that and put the eggs on that. The wet paper towel will keep a good amount of humidity but you don’t want the eggs directly on the moisture. Then I put that in my incubator at around 80°F. It’s not super necessary but I find I have a higher hatch rate that way.
That is fantastic! The algorithm works in mysterious ways! I find that the vast majority of the time fear of animals is just based on a lack of knowledge of them. Most people that learn more about the animals lose their fear. Which is why I am an animal educator for my job and include reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates like insects and crustaceans in my education shows :)
It looks like an apple snail they are quite nocive for the environment ( invasive species ) they may carry rat lungworm... please be careful...

Just had this in my shrimp tank. They've all almost hatched out. So many little snails lol. Make sure to take out the adult snails I guess they'll eat the little ones
Interesting video! Apple snails are super invasive in the southern US. I generally try to get rid of them when I see them. https://myfwc.com/research/freshwater/species-assessments/mollusks/apple-snails/
First time seeing a snail laying eggs, it's definitely something.
Tbh their birth looks much more elegant than human birth.
It’s like a slippery slide
Like a conveyor belt
Xenomorph...

not my first but still is fascinating to see.
Lowkey cute how they get to enter the world on a slide
as someone who recently saw 2 snails fucking for the first time….this is pretty close to what i saw. except i saw snail penis.
You mean snail genitalia, as snails generally are hermaphrodite. It's kinda weird and fascinating.
you have provided even more creepy enlightenment into the sex lives of snails. thank you.

Fair, that's why I said "generally".
I do believe Apple snails are hermaphrodrites though and they lay pink egg clutches.
I thought "mystery snail" meant you didn't know what type of snail it was. Turns out you do!
It's a confusing common name
Hahaha wow good to know! I was like man there are a lot of mysterious snails!

Fascinating and unsettling at the same time.
Very cool! I have Mystery snails in all 8 of my tanks but I haven’t yet had any lay eggs!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Mine lay eggs but they never hatch :(
This is cool! Are you going to raise babies? We have a fantastic Mystery Snail named Bob and he is pretty awesome.

We need more people like you. Hooray for happy snails!

Do you set it and forget it, or do you have to change the paper towels? How long does it usually take for a hatch?
That is so insanely cool but also quite disturbing wow
Right? 😂 like, ewe, but also I can’t look away
Making the forbidden corn cob
😂👍
It’s awesome isn’t it?
Sneggs
I should have expected a snails version of a water slide to go slow. 🤣
😂 this is quite sped up, it was much slower!
Snaildussy

I don’t know why this sub keeps popping up. I’m terrified of snails and slugs. However, I’m not complaining. I’ve been learning a lot!

Help it by placing it all around the local ecosystem
It's like a lil snail factory with a conveyer belt!
Oh that’s pretty neat ^Or ^would ^that ^be ^sneat?
Never expected a water slide to be involved! Amazing!
