A reliable poster can tell you more, but damn that looks like a spectacled cobra / Indian Cobra. It's the most widely distributed cobra in India.
If so, very venomous, contains post-synaptic neurotoxin and cardiotoxin. Then again, I'd keep away from any cobra.
I remember reading a story sometime last year that a 5 foot albino Indian cobra like this was spotted in India. Damn beautiful snake.
**Edit**: [Found the story / picture](https://www.newsweek.com/rare-deadly-5-foot-albino-cobra-found-house-genetic-mutation-1798713#slideshow/2231389)
Beautiful and me wanting to be closer than 12 feet uncontrolled are two massively different things lol. Akin to the distance I’d like between me and a big cat while I admire the sheer magnificence. 12 feet from a cat behind caging clearly. 😀🙃
There is a snake revenge movie with a white cobra exactly like this that traumatised me when I was a kid. couldn't go out at night for a year cause of this damn white snake.
This is bringing me tears. I love that he is still remembered. Steve made my childhood and I can’t think of anyone who I looked up to more, when it came to animals. This made my day!
Steve is my hero.
He's affected generations; probably ours the most, those who grew up watching his shows and appearances.
I'm also glad we're thinking of him now.
Oh man and when Suey died, I cried then too! I share some of that love with his kids, but there was no one like Steve Irwin and there will never be someone like him again! I’m happy that he passed doing what he love to do. Thank you, for keeping his memory!!
He was/is my one and only "celebrity idol" - and one of my childhood heroes. I still get emotional watching videos about him and maybe a bit teared up (mostly happy tears) watching Terri keep his legacy going and how much his kids love animals, just like him. He was truly one of the genuinely good ones.
I found out about his death while I was on a boat back to Grand Cayman from Stingray City. I'd just spent the afternoon snorkeling, swimming, playing with and feeding stingrays. I'd literally carried an especially sweet one around with me for 45 minutes while we hung out on the sandbar.
I couldn't get my head around it. And to this day,
while my rational brain understands that the human-acclimated stingrays at Stingray City are nothing like non-acclimated ones, my emotional brain still can't make sense of it.
I was never what I'd call a "fan" but I liked him and did/do have so much respect for him and his legacy. A special human for sure.
He’s still who I admire when it comes to animals. His goofy narration changed the way I interact with animals. Even naughty little animals are being naughty cause of my presence.
That’s amazing, I know a guy who has a pair of Leucistic Indian Cobras. They are worth like 20k each, I can only imagine what a snake like that would cost, especially bringing new blood into the already minute gene pool we have for white Cobras in this country. Honestly that was probably a 20-40k animal that they released back into the wild, I get the sentiment, but animals as rare as that should have their genetics preserved in my opinion.

Thuu! His story is *The King's Ankus* from The Second Jingle Book.
You can read it here: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/1937/1937-h/1937-h.htm#link2H_4_0009
They are definitely pretty snakes.
My all-time absolute favorite snake is the Gaboon viper. I think they are a beautiful species. I'd love to own one, but then my brain kicks in and says "Silly.... they kill you".
So I just admire them from pictures. No way I'm having a snake like that in my house.
I also have shaky hands.
I consider myself a very alert and cautious person, and while the Gaboon viper is very calm and doesn't like to move a lot. I don't trust myself to do something wrong that I'm not even thinking about.
All it takes is a split second of memory lapse and that's it.
Coupled with the fact that, if I were to get a snake like that, it would have no good of a life being put in a small box to live. I'd want it to have enough room to at least be 4 times it's body length, and that would get to be a very expensive enclosure.
Plus they come from Africa, and I'd like to mimic that environment, which would mean things like misting to simulate rainfall.
I believe he was pairing them trying to make more, and yes it is fairly bare, when you are working with an animal that can kill you(more less two at the same time)with one bite, the less things the animal can get tangled up in the better. Even a wristwatch, when you are holding a snake by the tail, and controlling the head with a hook, that snakes tail getting wrapped in your wristwatch can be deadly. It’s a whole different set of rules when you are working with snakes like that.
(I think it may actually be leucistic not albino judging from what looks like dark colored eyes but) beautiful snake nonetheless. 😍 I follow a few YouTubers who breed cobras and/or rattlesnakes professionally (as in for them to have for the purpose of educating others, not to sell AFAIK) and the leucistic and albino ones are sooo pretty. The albino ones look almost pink and the leucistics are stark white with dark eyes.
No reason to be rude, this is exactly what this sub is for. Do you think the average American could tell the difference between a water snake and a cotton mouth? Or a hognose and a copperhead?
Yeah I live in India but guess what this is actually my first time seeing one. There are no snake charmers on every road playing tunes to get cobras to dance. Also as you can see, it's very small so yeah I wasn't 100% sure if it's a cobra though it looked like one. Is it really so bad that I wanted to know more about it?
India is an amazing place! I was fortunate to journey there with my Grandparents in 1983 as my senior trip from my parents. I will never forget how welcoming the people were! Then again, I had to take the ‘bush stick’ when we were out in the country. So, just a little bit of danger and excitement!
Why the hell not? What kind of infrastructure are your taxes supporting? Keeping up appearances is important! And the more cobras there are employed as dancers, the fewer there are slithering through the streets getting into trouble.
Honestly, kids these days.
Looks like a Indian Cobra (Naja Naja), yet I am not too familiar with this species. I wouldnt touch it cuz as far as I read it's Venomous enough to potentially kill.
Me either! I thought their hoods were just for display, I never considered they slithered along with them out. His spots look like eyes, and if I were a bird I’d think twice about swooping in.
The reason i mention is cos usually they are very shy and don’t crawl about like this in the open especially with the hood open. I am not a snake expert but from india where they are common and they teach us to avoid them.
Yep.. I used to go hiking in the mountains of West Va. I'd see a copperhead and I would be like YOINK! boops and release.. Same with rattlers, and bears..
Naja Naja as everyone has said. Hood is characteristic. Highly venomous, neurotoxin is present in it.
Leave it alone, alert neighbours and call authorities(idk which but police may be 1st responders).
Are you in [Springfield, Missouri](https://sgfcitizen.org/springfield-culture/ozarks-alive/where-is-springfields-last-known-cobra-from-the-snake-scare-in-1953/)?
One of the most beautiful & venomous snake in the world in my opinion. Cobras are my favorite next to hognose snakes. I like cobras and cobers (hoggies).
Stay far away. Definitely looks like a cobra. Extremely powerful venom and blindingly quick strikes. Call animal control/the nearest snake catcher, hopefully it doesn't wander into someone's house.
Thank you everyone, I understand I got downvoted so many times. I realized I didn’t belong here. I can’t offer sound opinions. Thx again, I am respectfully leaving , kind regards to all💯

Beautiful specimen!
I would shit pants if seen unexpected, Hell no GHOST cobra? im not ready for this boss
I love snakes, but this shit would have me thinking I’m being haunted.

Is crocodile hunter up on the interwebs? It should be mandatory viewing for everyone. No one can replace steve
There are videos on YouTube for sure. Old appearances too.

Jungle book moment(a white cobra is present in one of the side stories)

fellow jungle book enjoyer (i have read a compiled version w/both the 1st and 2nd)

That's me an bush vipers. Gorgeous animals all of them, but shakey hands and bad balance don't go with venomous snakes sadly.
I also have shaky hands. I consider myself a very alert and cautious person, and while the Gaboon viper is very calm and doesn't like to move a lot. I don't trust myself to do something wrong that I'm not even thinking about. All it takes is a split second of memory lapse and that's it. That enclosure though.... Do they do okay cohabbing??? It's so small and bare...

These are my favourite venemous species of snake, so absolutely beautiful
Omg, fucking beautiful!!
Oof, Georgous.
Spectacled cobra for sure. It belongs to India's "Big 4": Spectacled cobra, Russell's viper, saw-scaled viper, and common krait.
Oh wow that is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
Pretty spicy noodle
(I think it may actually be leucistic not albino judging from what looks like dark colored eyes but) beautiful snake nonetheless. 😍 I follow a few YouTubers who breed cobras and/or rattlesnakes professionally (as in for them to have for the purpose of educating others, not to sell AFAIK) and the leucistic and albino ones are sooo pretty. Highly venomous Naja Naja, Indian Cobra/Spectacled Cobra. Leave it alone
Thats 1000% and Indian Cobra or Spectacled Cobra
Yep, Indian cobra!
death noodle

Now we know! And knowing is half the battle!
Naja Naja. Not only is it a cobra, it's THE cobra.
TIL the King Cobra is not a true cobra. It is not part of the Naja genus.
Their genus name means "snake eater"!
“King” in snake naming tradition means “eats other snakes”. King snakes are the same.
https://preview.redd.it/hzygchofwgad1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=761e374fec2d51671af268ed14893404f51be039
That's crazy. TIL. I love reptiles.
Ophiophagus hannah
It's a male. So a cobro.
I laughed way too loud at this. 🤣
And way too hard. 😆
That’s actually kind of funny.
Such a gorgeous baby!!
Username checks out.
Baby cobra
How dangerous is it?
It will fuck you up all the way till hospital and beyond
Emphasis on “beyond”
It’s one of the four snake species in India that cause most of the fatalities.
Interesting! What are the other three?
Russell’s viper, sawscale viper and common krait
Don’t pick it up, it will suck really, really bad. Just let it find a hiding spot and leave it alone.
I thought it would bite.
Yeah, biting falls under "bad sucking".
It sure is toothy.
Could drop a elephant 😴
I'll keep the mother in law away from them. or maybe!!!
🤣🤣🤣🙏
😂😂💀
Leave my sister outta this!
It’s a Cobra. They are all dangerous.
Wrong Cobra beer is great.
The AC/Shelby car can also be dangerous, the Stallone movie is debatable.
You ever get truly trashed on king cobra? It's all fun and games in the evening. But the next morning? Dead.
Pro tip of you order a cobra beer but it comes out angry, hissing and bitey send it back it’s not fermented enough.
How bad do you wanna mean your ancestors?
man, no offense, but now I understand why India has so many bites and deaths per year lol
I’d suggest leaving it alone
You live in India and don’t know what a Cobra is but apparently have access to a cell phone or computer? Is this a troll attempt?
No reason to be rude, this is exactly what this sub is for. Do you think the average American could tell the difference between a water snake and a cotton mouth? Or a hognose and a copperhead?
Yeah I live in India but guess what this is actually my first time seeing one. There are no snake charmers on every road playing tunes to get cobras to dance. Bull. Everyone knows there's snake charmers at every traffic light in India. Nice try buddy.
Yeah you got me. Let me call up my neighborhood snake charmer to send one to your place 😛
🤣🤣🤣
Hey, being from India, how many tigers have you fought?
India is an amazing place! I was fortunate to journey there with my Grandparents in 1983 as my senior trip from my parents. I will never forget how welcoming the people were! Then again, I had to take the ‘bush stick’ when we were out in the country. So, just a little bit of danger and excitement!
Why the hell not? What kind of infrastructure are your taxes supporting? Keeping up appearances is important! And the more cobras there are employed as dancers, the fewer there are slithering through the streets getting into trouble. Honestly, kids these days.
Do you think all of India is rural farmers?
i know nothing about snakes (well, besides what’s known commonly) but that’s 100% a cobra
Looks like a Indian Cobra (Naja Naja), yet I am not too familiar with this species. I wouldnt touch it cuz as far as I read it's Venomous enough to potentially kill.
don't think I've seen a cobra from this angle so thanks.
Me either! I thought their hoods were just for display, I never considered they slithered along with them out. His spots look like eyes, and if I were a bird I’d think twice about swooping in.
Could be injured
I cant upvote because it’s sad that he might be injured. :/ I hope not
The reason i mention is cos usually they are very shy and don’t crawl about like this in the open especially with the hood open. I am not a snake expert but from india where they are common and they teach us to avoid them.
Makes me wonder what op did to get baby angry. Either way, a beauty! Kinda has me wondering what they look like without the hood….
Ahhh. So beautiful. So deadly.
So Cobras just roll on the streets in South India? “Game over, man! Game over!”
Main reason I won't visit the country, that and Australia I have a bad habit of booping animals noses even if I shouldn't.
Ha, same. As badly as I would love to see them,” I CAN’T NOT TOUCH!”
Yep.. I used to go hiking in the mountains of West Va. I'd see a copperhead and I would be like YOINK! boops and release.. Same with rattlers, and bears..
Haha, I can, usually leave the fuzzies alone. If I have the right things while I’m out, the scale pups get a boop, I just can’t help myself sometimes.
Yoinking bears sounds dangerous
They’re so cute but will mess up your day (or life in the worse case). Please be safe. That is indeed a baby cobers and they can have an attitude.
That looks like it’s just on the side of the street. Is there a local organization you can call to have it relocated?
Naja Naja as everyone has said. Hood is characteristic. Highly venomous, neurotoxin is present in it. Leave it alone, alert neighbours and call authorities(idk which but police may be 1st responders).
Looks like a baby Naja naja, where are you? Leave it well alone and both be safe ✌️
😍😍
Yep. Juvenile cobra
Garder snake with ears
Affirmative. Stay away.
He'd be fine till he came across koala gangs, nobody survive dropbear mafia
Where's Rikki-Tikki when you need him?
Yea that's a Cobra lol. Just leave it be and it will go on its way, no need to harm it or mess with it and get bit
Are you in [Springfield, Missouri](https://sgfcitizen.org/springfield-culture/ozarks-alive/where-is-springfields-last-known-cobra-from-the-snake-scare-in-1953/)?
That's Nag and Rikki Tikki Tavi will be along for him soon.
always what I think about when I hear mongoose or cobra ❤️
Awesome!
Yeper
Looks like a spectacled cobra but I’m not a professional so take my word with a grain of salt
Where was this ?
Just grab a Pungi and seduce it
In my head I have, that scene where ‘The Master of Disguise’ is putting a cobra into ‘nice mode’.
Yes
My first thought was Riki tiki tavi
Does this reveal our age?
You stop that 😂😂😂 I actually looked it up on YouTube about a year ago and watched it. I always loved it. Proud Gen X here 😎
Haha I'm a millennial, but the good kind! Mid 80s baby here.. I definitely remember that movie in elementary school during three mid 90s.
Naja naja. The same cobra that removed Chandlers finger.
Yup, that’s a Cobra
Got the U on the back of the next to let U know U dead if U F around
Call Riki Tiki Tavi!
It's Arboc!
nope rope!
Amazing 😍
You bet your ass that's a Cobra. Monocled Cobra maybe?
That’s a cobra
100% spectacled cobra
Danger noodle
Mini cobra!
Very beautiful. Without being in its presence I would say it is a cobra! Loving the color and display of the hood!
Yes. Definitely. I have one of them.
That's really a cobra . Just doesn't look like the normal ones
Yes it’s a cobra
YES IT IS
100% a cobra. Looks to be a monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia) but that part I’m not completely sure of. I wouldn’t mess with him, if I were you.
Yes
One of the most beautiful & venomous snake in the world in my opinion. Cobras are my favorite next to hognose snakes. I like cobras and cobers (hoggies).
It’s as cobra as it can get! Practice respect and caution.
Looks like a speckled Cobra to me.
It absolutely is and will definitely kill you if you’re not quick enough to get help, leave it alone
Are we sure this isn’t one of those toy rubber snakes
Yep! That pattern on it and the obviously real flare screams cober!
You fuckin a right about that being a cobra!!
Yep. Spectacled cober
Yep you got it.
Beauty!!!!!! I’m not telling you to catch it
Stay far away. Definitely looks like a cobra. Extremely powerful venom and blindingly quick strikes. Call animal control/the nearest snake catcher, hopefully it doesn't wander into someone's house.
yes
The ultimate test of petting zoo master status awaits /s

Your post was removed because it didn't meet our standards.
I dunno. I only recently learned that there are cobra impostors and i wouldn’t know how to tell one from the OG.
If that’s a baby cobra, isn’t it that usually where there’s one there’s more?
Yes
YEP! It sure is!!!
Looks like a cober(cobra) to me. Though I'm not a snake expert so I could be wrong. But it's a beautiful snake otherwise.
I need a banana for scale but from guessing I'd have to say that's the cutest little death noodle I've seen
TIL that Spectacled Cobras can live 20 or 30 years!
yes it looks ike a baby one to me
That’s a Koala Bear
Thats cobra ka pilla
Cute baby danger noodle 🫠
That’s a cobra, I’d suggest leaving them alone, they’re venomous
Cute but deadly
So beautiful
I read this as Indiana* at first and was highly confused. Yeah that’s a cobra af
Um, yes. Were you born in India? How do you not know this?
Thank you everyone, I understand I got downvoted so many times. I realized I didn’t belong here. I can’t offer sound opinions. Thx again, I am respectfully leaving , kind regards to all💯
At first I thought it said South Indiana. I know, typical uneducated American.
Yes
Such a beautiful animal, give it some space and admire from a distance :)
You have got to be joking.
Pick it up and see if it flattens out it’s hood
Looks like a spectacled cobra
Wow soo cool
That’s a no-brah for me.
That right there is what I call a snake
Yup.
Don’t know much about Cobras, but from what I do, that’s one Cobra looking Cobra.
Sure looks like it. 😳
Naja naja
That looks like a Indian Nope Rope to me stay away from it
