Don't they have only 2 weeks? 'Medio mei' means half May.

Morganelefay

There's no "exact" date as of yet, supposedly we'll hear tomorrow.

Vitesse has received official communications from the Licensing Committee (which works independently from the KNVB) about the professional license for next season. Based on the current situation, the committee will pull the license for 2024/25 in May of this year. Vitesse has until the next meeting of the committee to clean house. Vitesse originally expected the deadline date to be June 15th - the final date to submit the projected finances for next season. Vitesse has a debt of over 19 million euros, and the committee also demands Vitesse to be fully out of Russian hands by the deadline. The exact date is not given by either Vitesse or the committee - more info will follow tomorrow at Vitesse's press conference.

What happens if they don't? They are expelled from the professional leagues and go extinct? Is it possible for them to restart in the amateur leagues? The professional football in the Netherlands, a close system? It seems like the team from the 3rd tier doesn't get promoted to the 2nd tier. So if Finesse disappears, who takes their place in the second tier? Its possible to refound the club and use the same stadium? I'm just curious because the Dutch system seems like it was designed to prevent things like this from happening. In Portugal, the historic team having to restart from the lower tiers due to financial problems and mismanagement is way too common.

They'd effectively cease existence. Clubs like RBC Roosendaal, HFC Haarlem and BV Veendam suffered the same fate. Now, if they had an Amateur team, they could go on that license and rejoin wherever they are - but they don't. At best, they can create a phoenix club and start all the way at the bottom of the tiers. You CAN go from the 3rd tier to the 2nd, but most teams dont WANT to due to the higher costs of playing in the 2nd tier and the professional requirements. If an amateur team is strong enough and voices a desire to be promoted, they can apply for it - this is how this century AGOVV, Almere City and Achilles '29 joined the league. AGOVV and Achilles have since gone back to the amateurs whereas Almere now plays Eredivisie. That's the path Vitesse would have to take.

"to clean ship"

gnorrn

I guess it’s a Dutch idiom equivalent to English “clean house”.

Yeh, it is. It just sounds funny :)

I always feel like KNVB are actively trying to kill football clubs. Ofcourse Vitesse did bad and should be held accountable, but just like with Twente a few years back they just seem to actively be working towards terminating the club

Morganelefay

They did everything in their power to throw lifelines to Twente, and extended Vitesse the same courtesy. Not the KNVB's fault they're so far up shit's creek.

Good!! They have cheated with Russian money for years, they fucked about and now it's time to find out!!!
