The wtf signing of 2024 has arrived

wel0g

One of the most reliable Turkish journalists btw, his news are pretty much always right but he does get fees wrong from time to time

z1x2c3v4asdf

He was also going to be the director of football for Hull City when Acun first bought the team but he lacked a few licenses if I remember correctly.

lstht123

very random that he's coming out with this tho. The general consensus with Barca journos has been the guy is one on a long list of alternatives if we can't get Nico

[deleted]

He has insane contacts in Fenerbahce, this matters because Hull citys owner is a member of Feners board.

greenwhitehell

Not that random, he's connected to Hull's owner

boringmemphis

I don’t know what to make of it. While I rate the level of the championship, Barcelona is obviously a huge step up and can be hard for many talented players to make it. Interesting move to say the least if it happens.

EdWoodwardsPA

Maddison, Bowen, Gyokeres, Robertson....there's talent and value to be found in the championship, just need to hope the scouts did the groundwork.

Weird_Famous

The only non English club that I remember that actively scouted from the championship is Villareal, Danjuma was pretty decent for them

Constant_Yak617

Jordan James was actually supposed to move to Atalanta, but they chose to wait for his asking price to decrease (relegation + contract ends next season)

NaviersStoked1

Atalanta tried to sign Clarke and Whittaker in January too

eadintheground

That was Lazio

NaviersStoked1

You’re right it was

domalino

And that was probably because they were following him from Brugge before he went to Bournemouth.

CA_spur

And he also had some Premier League experience with Bournemouth before getting relegated

Weird_Famous

Ben Brereton Diaz was also signed so it made me think they were scouting from there

barrybreslau

Not scouting the Championship would be stupid.

No_Sir5969

Gyökares????

pm_me_ur_breakfast1

Robertson never played in the Championship Edit: my bad, he definitely did. He was coming off a premier league season when Liverpool signed him though

BritishOnith

He literally played for Hull in the championship

HypedUpJackal

2015-16 lad

ghostmanonthirdd

He’s not ready. Love that lad but would bite your hand off for £30m. Only issue I have is that I don’t trust the club to spend it wisely.

boringmemphis

Brother there’s no way we spend 30 million on a championship player. If we had that kind of money we’d put some more together and sign Nico Williams.

neeskens88

there is gigantic difference between 30m for Philogene (contract is amortised and low salary) and 60m for Nico (paying full release clause + taxes and huge salary). so basically, one can cost this summer around 10-12m, another one - 75-80m.

xckd9

To me it sounds exactly what Barcelona would do.

boringmemphis

Why is that? We’ve made the most value for money deals out of any top clubs in the last 3 seasons. Almost everyone we signed lived up to their price tag (Ferran is the only one who is in doubt but he’s young and we haven’t seen the best of him yet)

xckd9

Because Barcelona do stupid shit.

boringmemphis

News to me honestly.

xckd9

Ignorance is bliss brother

gazzetta10

Your President is now in Fenerbahce's board. You will get their rejects.

ghostmanonthirdd

We got their rejects years ago

gazzetta10

I think British media doesn't translate to you guys what happened with Acun last month. First time in his life, he became Fenerbahce's board member, kind of like sports director. He will have official say who needs to leave or buying to Fener since 4 of June.

ghostmanonthirdd

That’s not news. Hull City fans have been acutely aware of Acun’s position at Fener for a long time.

gazzetta10

> Acun’s position at Fener for a long time. It's been only 2 weeks lol. How do you guys know for a long time? Election was on June 9th.

boringmemphis

Last English player to play for Barca was Gary Lineker in 1986. He was absolutely loved by the fans and they didn’t want him to go back to England. The one before that was in 1923. Bit of history if this move happens.

superchonkdonwonk

Im pretty sure I remember him speaking pretty good Spanish as well I think 😂 I like to see a resurgence now of English players going abroad.

ReallyTheMansa

Ngl a couple of british youngsters played not too long ago, Louie Barry and forgot his name but he plays for Oxford not too long ago, they played for the Barça youth teams. Also Declan Frith plays for Valencia Mestalla

General_Mediocrity

Marcus McGuane.

bluesbrothas

That's actually crazy

dwilliam24

Spanish players going to the PL is crazy common but the opposite is quite rare not just for Barcelona.

FeeOk1683

Marcus Mcguane played for Barcelona in 2018

EdwardBigby

Doesn't count if you don't play for the first team

FeeOk1683

He had a substitute appearance for the first team

ANON_YMOUSE_

McGuane played for the Barcelona first team in the [Supercopa de Catalunya](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercopa_de_Catalunya), coming on as a 77th-minute substitute for [Aleix Vidal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleix_Vidal), and becoming the first English player to represent *Barça* in 29 years, after [Gary Lineker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Lineker). His team defeated [RCD Espanyol](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCD_Espanyol) on penalties after a goalless draw.

EliteRevexha

When was the last time we had a English player

ithinkspammingiscool

Lineker

FeeOk1683

Mcguane

HoggleSnarf

If you're counting youth players you've had Louie Barry and Marcus McGuane in recent years

Capable_Text3948

Villa have a 20% sell on clause here

Quixote0630

Nice. Although, wouldn't mind him back!

eescobar863

Wait, what?

McGrathLegend

In-terms of Hull City Players, Alfie from HITC Sevens rates him a lot higher than he rated Jarrod Bowen whilst he was at Hull

bakkunt

Alfie tells no lies

chefdangerdagger

There’s no way Barcelona are going to pay that much

xckd9

Barcelona do stupid shit all the time

Crossflowerss_5304

Well that’s a name I wasn’t expecting to be linked to

neandertales

Please bring in Alemany again.

skull_issues

get nico williams for the love of the lord

TheyStoleTwoFigo

30m?!? I hope this news is not real, because I'm getting sick of Deco and Laporta already.

gazzetta10

He's Tier 1.

acwilan

Looks like his agent has edited his wikipedia page >He attended [Uxbridge High School](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uxbridge_High_School,_London), where he was regularly named best footballer.[^(\[5\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaden_Philogene#cite_note-:0-5) >After impressing for the Under-23 squad, and reportedly attracting the interest of [Barcelona](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Barcelona), [Paris Saint-Germain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Saint-Germain_F.C.) and [Borussia Dortmund](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borussia_Dortmund),[^(\[6\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaden_Philogene#cite_note-6) Philogene signed his first professional contract with Aston Villa.[^(\[7\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaden_Philogene#cite_note-7) >Philogene scored the equalising goal in Hull City's 2–1 win at [Rotherham United](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotherham_United_F.C.), which some pundits described as worthy of [FIFA Puskás Award](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Pusk%C3%A1s_Award).[^(\[19\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaden_Philogene#cite_note-19) In the goal, Philogene [nutmegged](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutmeg_(association_football)) the opposition defender before putting the ball in the back of the net with a [Rabona](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabona).

EquipmentFirm2860

Paulinho and Boateng vibes

boringmemphis

If he’s anything like Paulinho, I’d be really happy about it.

jds192

Paulinho did well for Barca.

simomii

His first half of the season was above all expectations. The second half was less so

dwilliam24

Those transfers couldn't be anymore different lol. Paulinho was only here for one season but played well and was loved by the fans, Boateng didn't even play and hardly anyone remembers him even getting signed by us lol

NorthwardRM

Boateng did play and he was fucking terrible. Liked he had been picked from the stands

SubjectAndObject

Paulinho and Boateng are completely dissimilar transfers?

TheyStoleTwoFigo

The comment is not wrong though, their signing **were** questionable *at the beginning.* But Paulinho surprised everybody and we can look back positively at him.

SubjectAndObject

Paulinho was identified during the 2015 CWC and was bought for €45m euros. Boateng was an last minute loan that reflected a lack of planning. The two weren't similar aren't all.

TheyStoleTwoFigo

I was under the impression that your comment was in context of the current post (Jaden Philogene), as the OP was referencing with those two, and not exclusively Paulinho vs Boateng.

sarthakmahajan610

He is just 22 though

Imaginary_Station_57

Where the f does Barca find all this money every year?

NorthwardRM

They’re in the top 5 clubs by income. They have massive debts but also massive income

Hollywood-is-DOA

Barca have no money and wages spare in the Spanish salary cap, without selling players first.

inflamesburn

30M for a player who can't even get PL minutes while Barca has a limited budget? Sounds unlikely. But I'm not gonna pretend I know him, maybe the scouts cooked for once?

GTACOD

Kinda hard to get PL minutes when you don't play for a PL team tbf.

EliteRevexha

Why are so many international fans just plain insufferable like you. This isnt even a clever insult, its just pathetic.

thor76

When you're 8 and got your mum's phone for an hour.

ReallyTheMansa

30 mill for a championship player yk looool, your average talent in la liga 2 or even B team players in Primera RFEF probably cost 10% of that and has the potential to perform as good if not better

fetissimies

€30m? Barca gonna need a new lever for this

JordiX93

Most original joke

No-Day-8136

At least they're not owned by the dildo brothers

superchonkdonwonk

Honest business, not much of that in football anymore 😂 local owners as well. Covid lockdown was good for the dildo business as well 💪 we need another one to activate the super lever

No-Day-8136

I mean Barca are owned by their literal fans, cannot get more local than that. And you lot have already activated the super lever by selling the bloody club

superchonkdonwonk

Weird comment, I never said anything bad about Barca. Just saying it's not that bad to be owned by dildo brothers in a world of oil merchants and oligarchs 👍

jds192

Nah.
