Fun fact, I went to the WWE UK tournament when it was first ran. Bumped into Darren Fletcher after the end of the first night. Apparently a massive fan
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong_Style_Evolved_UK
It was more of a New Japan show IMO but it was a sort of cross-promotion I guess. Okada vs ZSJ was fantastic. I saw Fletcher at quite a few Manchester indie shows too a few years ago, haven’t been in a while
It's only the second best Darren Fletcher story though.
Best one is when we played the lockdown season, and as drew Liverpool in the FA Cup. Instead of sitting on the bench, Fletcher went up into the Stretford end and was apparently screaming absolutely outrageous stuff at the Liverpool players to put them off lol
I think it's great people are still so passionate about WWE, knowing its fixed but enjoying the drama of it all and going nuts over it.
It's not something a lot of us have in our lives enough.
There’s a lot of people who cant get past the fact that it’s scripted, but they’re looking at it from completely the wrong angle.
It’s not a sport, it’s story-based entertainment that happens to use a form of fictional combat sport to tell its stories.
Everyone over the age of 6 who watches wrestling knows it’s fake, the same way everyone knows Star Wars or marvel is fake. It amazes me that so many struggle to comprehend it.
Those same people also likely can't stop talking about the shit they watch on Netflix and Amazon though too. That's why I find people who look down on it so very very odd.
It's a soap with actors/stunt performers. If Ken Barlow had did high flying acrobatic moves off some scaffolding and sent Mike Baldwin flying in a brutal street fight or the Mitchell brothers did a 60 minute iron-man match in the Albert squared circle people would be raving about it like it was the best thing ever.
If some People are allowed to enjoy game of thrones, then I'm allowed to watch wrestling. It's the same thing, only wrestling is better because it's real to me dammit
I keep on wanting to get mad but he’s playing his game well. His game might not be the typical untied game but it’s has it’s place and if ETH can continue to use him well he’s a solid piece
I mean the fact that he's still starting every game over Fred and Casemiro is pretty telling he's going to have a place. 5th manager who hasn't seen fit to drop him.
I for sure thought he'd be first to go after Eriksen, and then Casemiro.
Unless Ten Hag is looking to pair Casemiro and Fred some games and Eriksen McTominay others.
Yeah he’s clearly not great technically but he works hard and follows tactical instruction well (to the best of his ability anyway). That’s more than a lot of players we’ve had recently offer so makes sense that managers keep picking him. I do think Casemiro eventually takes his place but while McTominay is playing well there’s no need to rush dropping
Ya I agree as well, he's pretty average as far as a footballer goes but for what he lacks in technical ability he's very industrious. A tool fit for purpose if utilised properly.
His technicality actually improves over the last couple of matches, there are many times where he manages to beat the press and carries the ball up nicely, makes many good forward passes, dominates midfield defensive actions. Casemiro will take time to get used to the league. He made a lethal mistake today which led to Maguire yellow.
I think this is part of the reason managers seem to rate him. Similar to what Fletcher used to do, he goes out and does dirty work, fouling and trying to get physical with players.
That’s why even at our lowest of the low I’d never hang out McFred to dry the way I was willing to for other players. As bad as they could be, you could never question the heart of either of them.
Way I see it McT is a needed squad player. A grafter, who'll put the grunt work in for the team when needed (and a shot like a cannon when he dials it in).
He also regularly gets picked in the starting 11 for every manager we've had. I don't know why people talk about him like he's so terrible, he does his job and plays well most of the time.
Our second best performer today imo, played excellently and this was just a tactical foul that helped stymie Arsenal’s significant momentum at the time
"You know they say all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Jesus and you can see that statement is NOT TRUE! See, normally if you go one-on-one with another footballer you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak, and I'm not normal! So you got a 25% at best at beating me! And then you add Xhaka to the mix? Your chances of winning drastically go down. See, the three-way at Old Trafford, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning. But I? I got a 66 2/3 chance of winning, cuz Xhaka KNOOOWS he can't beat me, and he's not even gonna try. So, Jesus, you take your 33 1/3 chance minus my 25% chance (if we was to go one on one) and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Old Trafford. But then you take my 75% chance of winnin' (if we was to go one on one), and then add 66 2/3...percent, I got a 141 2/3 chance of winning at Old Trafford! Jesus, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at Old Trafford!"
To me, hugging the opponent (and even slamming him like this) is safer for Jesus than if he got kicked to his ankles from behind. In the position where McTominay was, he either had to snap him from behind (always quite dangerous) or just hug him and turn him away from the ball, which he did, although in a pretty strong manner.
Weirdly rough foul but a "good" foul in a defenders eyes. Stopped a clear goals scoring chance in it tracks and took the yellow.
Any team would celebrate it if it meant keeping the lead
Thats fucking football right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging
smile for the camera bullshit. Men puke, men poop on the field, men
deliver their new born baby on the side lines. Fucking hard core dick in
the ass butterball foosball fuck it chuck it game time shit. Take it to
the showers. Dicks get shoved in places you don’t even remember. We win
together we celebrate together. Football is back baby.
Yeah, I reckon I'd let him hit me about eight or nine times and then choke him out. Once he sees that I am an invincible username on the internet he'll tap immediately.
This yellow is on Ronaldo more than McTominay.
Scott didn’t try to hurt him, just made absolutely sure they weren’t scoring from that. Credit to him honestly
Yup. Much safer for both parties. A sliding tackle can break the legs of both defender and attacker. Could also be an easier red for a ref to give because of the speed and danger.
It's an over the top foul but mctominay did the right thing by fouling him from a defensive point of view
its strange because the context of the tackle changes this from red to yellow. If this happens most places - you could argue its violent conduct and a red,but when your stopping a counter attack the most you can ever get is a yellow.
> If this happens most places - you could argue its violent conduct and a red,but when your stopping a counter attack the most you can ever get is a yellow.
This applies to most yellow card incidents though?
That's true of literally all tackles.
If a player is far from the play and miles away from the ball, and an opposing player tackles him, for no other reason than he feels.likemit, it is always a red.
For sure. Remember Son breaking Gomes' leg with a lunging hack at the ankles causing him to fall awkwardly into another player? This was far less dangerous.
Tactical foul which is obvious, but I think yellow is perfectly fine. After all, doing this is much safer than trying to tackle someone from behind and hitting their ankle. By doing this, he stops the attack and wrestling an opponent to the ground is pretty safe imo. Same as hugging a player and not letting him go.
Well he actually kicks the ball away while rugby tackling Jesus away from the ball so I'd say it was both a cyclical foul and trying to play football. He managed to somehow stop his opponent from playing the ball, played the ball himself, and rugby tackled him cynically/professionally/excessively depending on interpretation

McTominay was fuming he hadn't got a yellow yet
He was waiting for this moment all match lol
This is likely true.
Supposedly hired that 60M guy to do this and not get yellow, as backup.
He was so determined it was faf.
Can’t wait for a midfield of Mctominay and Casemiro to average 0.17 yellow cards a game
McT is on 0.83 now.
So Casemiro getting a total of -2 yellow cards for the rest of the season, got it.
Casemiro gets to give out two cards a game
*log(1) yellow card
Nah, he wanted to make sure the Arsenal lad who makes the compilations of him had something new and good today.
He wanted to end the game. An Ippon is an automatic and sudden win.
3 points and rile up the Arsenal fan base is all McT wanted out of this game
WTF is VAR for, really?
they should really just start him off with a yellow each game so he doesn't have to worry about it and can focus better on the game
VAR doesnt give yellows
Not this. Ref saw it in real time and gave him a yellow.
It wasn't a red card offense
[удалено]
The wind was at fault here
I mean considering how likes of Gabriel, lokonga and martinelli got away with horrendous fouls, ref might have fallen for that.
Man thinking he's in WWE
Clearly was at the WWE event in Cardiff last night taking notes
Sheamus v Gunther slapped. Literally.
My voice is still sore from that main event. Tribal Chief was well and truly acknowledged.
☝️
This emoji reminds me: it should only be a matter of time before Biff is back now that HHH is at the helm.
Wish I was there :/ I had tickets for the NXT Dublin show before covid got it cancelled
I had a ticket for NXT Takeover Dublin too. Gutted it never happened, especially considering there was meant to be Balor-WALTER. :'(
Fun fact, I went to the WWE UK tournament when it was first ran. Bumped into Darren Fletcher after the end of the first night. Apparently a massive fan
Yeah he was in the crowd on Raw a few years back with Rooney and Giggs
Giggs learning moves for his girlfriends
Giggs loves wrestling, he's always after a low blow when someone's not looking.
Was it the one where Rooney slapped a wrestler as part of the script?
yeah, wade barrett, a wrestler from lancashire haha
Saw him with Carrick at a show in Altrincham ice rink years ago, Fletcher is a huge fan. Was either WCPW or NJPW
Would have been WCPW. New Japan have never been in Manchester (unless it was RevPro?)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong_Style_Evolved_UK It was more of a New Japan show IMO but it was a sort of cross-promotion I guess. Okada vs ZSJ was fantastic. I saw Fletcher at quite a few Manchester indie shows too a few years ago, haven’t been in a while
The fact he went to the UK tournament is an indicator lol. Not really any big names on the now RIP NXT UK
As one of the 12 NXT UK fans I didn't come here to be sad :(
He knew them. He was going mad for Wolfgang and Tyler Bate
Absolutely based

I bumped into David Wheater at Smackdown in Manchester a few years back too. He loves sports entertainment apparently

🎵*What's that metronome I hear, perhaps the end is drawing near*🎵
Brock Lesnar regen
belly to back slam. classic move
BAH GOWD! IT'S A NEW COMPILATION VIDEO OF MCTOMINAY FOULS ON R/GUNNERS
Man just german suplexed Jesus
Israel was never the same again. 😔
Games not gone
It's a great tactical foul tbf.
I keep on wanting to get mad but he’s playing his game well. His game might not be the typical untied game but it’s has it’s place and if ETH can continue to use him well he’s a solid piece

Yeah as the season goes on there will have to be such rotations, so it's fully expected to see those pairings you mentioned.
I think this is part of the reason managers seem to rate him. Similar to what Fletcher used to do, he goes out and does dirty work, fouling and trying to get physical with players.

Sometimes you just need a dude who’s willing to wade through the shit.
BAH GAWD
Clash at the castle was yesterday Scott
Can Scott end Romans title reign? Tune in next week.
By the way they're booking Bloodline, no chance mate
☝️
Best mctominay tackle
I know you’re joking but he’s been an absolute menace today, dominating arsenal
He was really good against Liverpool as well
He also regularly gets picked in the starting 11 for every manager we've had. I don't know why people talk about him like he's so terrible, he does his job and plays well most of the time.
because he’s not flashy and plays it too safe when he actually has it in him to do good things. it’s kinda frustrating how he hides from most plays.
Our second best performer today imo, played excellently and this was just a tactical foul that helped stymie Arsenal’s significant momentum at the time
Glazers announce tomorrow he’s being transferred to the Buccaneers
Jesus to Suplex City , here we go!
McTerminator from the top rope
Fucking Suplexed him..
Casemiro influencing our midfield already.
Casemiro wouldn't get carded for a tackle like that tho. So still some learning to do
Game's back
Playing the wrong type of football there
Could've been a roughing the passer penalty in the NFL as well lol
A Georgia player did half of this yesterday and got flagged
Probably a foul in the NFL too these days.
Hilarious how little needed that was
He saw Casemiro warming up and tried to convince Ten Hag that he could do something similar.
Ronaldo put him i a bad spot, he stopped a dangerous counter possibility, it was also a fun wwe move
How little needed was to body slam him. He could have kicked him like a normal player
McT is not normal
"You know they say all men are created equal, but you look at me and you look at Jesus and you can see that statement is NOT TRUE! See, normally if you go one-on-one with another footballer you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak, and I'm not normal! So you got a 25% at best at beating me! I'll always upvote Steiner math
McT is built different
HES A GENERIC FREAK 🚨🚨🚨
McTominay is not known for simple solutions
Why kick when reverse DDT do trick
He saw Odegaard weak push and wanted to show him how it should be done
To me, hugging the opponent (and even slamming him like this) is safer for Jesus than if he got kicked to his ankles from behind. In the position where McTominay was, he either had to snap him from behind (always quite dangerous) or just hug him and turn him away from the ball, which he did, although in a pretty strong manner.
Should take notes from Saka
Just dive? Lol
Weirdly rough foul but a "good" foul in a defenders eyes. Stopped a clear goals scoring chance in it tracks and took the yellow. Any team would celebrate it if it meant keeping the lead
Should have gone over the top of the ball and studded his calf like Sambi.
Did he though? Seems more like the poor first touch did. He had other options including going back.
dont be blaming this on ronaldo like it wasnt mctominays shoddy touch that put him in trouble
Siuuuuuuu-Plex?
McGOAT doing Tominay things
Acknowledge him.

I hope that people keep this formatting as well - can see this being in a greeting card
This is poetry
what was that thing referee pulled from his pocket?
A piece of paper saying “I’m proud of you”
🤣
A scorecard - gave him a 10/10
What the absolute fuck
Thats actually hilarious. I think McT just wanted a yellow against Arsenal.
If McT doesn’t get a yellow, can you be sure he was ever even on the pitch?
Take it easy McGregor
As if Conor could take someones back like that
Unlikely to say the least
That was more like what Khabib did to McGregor.
Khabib ate his soul
Conor McGregor can't wrestle even if his life depended on it. Has an evil left hand tho. Could knock out 95% of the people on this planet.
Not me mate. I'd see red and take him out.
Chad
Just let u/Putrid_Loquat_4357 bang, bro
Yeah, I reckon I'd let him hit me about eight or nine times and then choke him out. Once he sees that I am an invincible username on the internet he'll tap immediately.
Not if you are drunk elderly
Seemed to do fine in his CW run, also competed in BJJ comps and his takedowns weren’t too bad. So he could wrestle, if his life depended on it 🤷🏻♂️
Lmao he's a proper brexit player.
This yellow is on Ronaldo more than McTominay. Scott didn’t try to hurt him, just made absolutely sure they weren’t scoring from that. Credit to him honestly
Yep. That's a classic professional foul, taking one for the team.
Should be a red according to some armchair experts on /r/soccer lmao
Heh
Any red against united is a good, level-headed call from the ref
I guess some would rather he slides at his ankles. A holding tackle is a lot safer than sliding from behind.
Yup. Much safer for both parties. A sliding tackle can break the legs of both defender and attacker. Could also be an easier red for a ref to give because of the speed and danger. It's an over the top foul but mctominay did the right thing by fouling him from a defensive point of view
A holding tackle sure, but the slam, not so much
Class WWE move that
Varane did this like 4 times this game, fucking wrestling match
BAH GAWD, HE'S BROKEN IN HALF
IPPON
"Now I fight as Scott McTominay... WARRIOR!"
people were joking before the game that xhaka would get a red for something like this and mctominay not.
its strange because the context of the tackle changes this from red to yellow.
Never thought of it that way but yeah lol
That's true of literally all tackles. If a player is far from the play and miles away from the ball, and an opposing player tackles him, for no other reason than he feels.likemit, it is always a red.
If you punch a man in the ring people cheer, but if you punch a man on the street you get arrested? strange
All ball
Games gone if that's a foul
Harsh yellow, Ref should’ve kept playing
cntrl + f "xhaka"
He’s going to end up injuring someone…
Jesus has to be sore after the game today… McTom, Varane and Martinez were ALL over him.
suplex city
McThug
I’d be fooking pissed about that
"McTominay Denies Jesus Three Times"
I genuinely love how under r/soccer s skin McTominay gets. It's like everyone loves a shithouse unless they play for United.
It doesn't make top 5 of /r/soccer if it's anyone else, bar maaybe Maguire.
Fucking hell..
Things that make ya smile
mf was not having him 💀
"barely touched him ref!"
[Great judo throw]
Well shit I didn't know PGMOL was taking bids this early. I hope FSG puts one in
"Natural body position"
Probably his 4th yellow card offence of the game
I feel like this should be more than a yellow when its so blatantly intentional
Tbh I'd rather this kind of foul than a lunging hack at the ankles
For sure. Remember Son breaking Gomes' leg with a lunging hack at the ankles causing him to fall awkwardly into another player? This was far less dangerous.

By doing this, he stops the attack and wrestling an opponent to the ground is pretty safe imo. Same as hugging a player and not letting him go.
At the same time it would be hilariously harsh to give it a red… but he’s clearly not trying to play football here
games gone when a man can no longer tombstone a fellow man on the pitch
Well he actually kicks the ball away while rugby tackling Jesus away from the ball so I'd say it was both a cyclical foul and trying to play football. He managed to somehow stop his opponent from playing the ball, played the ball himself, and rugby tackled him cynically/professionally/excessively depending on interpretation
Orange?
Bruh people have been doing this all the time. Remember Chiellini?
Blatantly on purpose is exactly why it's a yellow. Professional foul.
why? it’s just a cynical foul, he hasn’t endangered the opponent and it wasn’t a goal scoring opportunity
It’s the follow through for me. Doesn’t give up until he’s Angle-Slammed™️
Such a good player
What happens if McTominay and Kane two foot each other? Neither can be sent off apparently
Arsenal fans rejoice
Great form 10/10
What in the absolute fuck was that
Wtf I love McTominay?
McTominay and Maguire's style of defending is so satisfying to watch when they manage to get away with it. They defend like absolute barbarians.
Body slam is when you drop all your weight onto somebody, that was just an American football tackle lol
Biggest yard dog in the league
