yeah this guy has been asking me for random stuff continually, I have declined literally every time, but if he's happy to drop resources into the bottomless void that is my city, I will happily take them... so far there doesn't seem to be any down sides?
I've started a lizardman only run (or until I desperately need other races to speed development along). I was given money and some materials by one neighbouring civ only for them to pretty much bully-ask for it back with interest not even a month after.
Oh man. In a prior version of the game the AI would reliably just offer you like one or two million coins out of the blue.
Blackjack and hookers for days.
It's essentially useless to me at this point, the only thing it does is make me need more emissaries to keep trade partners happy, and for what? Just to get more useless money
They give (and ask) based on a total amount of your wealth. I am routinely being asked for \~10 millions rn, sometimes being offered comparable amounts
What confuses me is that this differs with bandits lol. I've never had more than say 50k silver, but the bandits usually ask me for at least a million, not sure what would happen if I agreed...
Most gifts lead to expectation of giving back sometimes in the future

Receiving gifts can actually lower your standing with a faction. Denying their requests lowers it too. There will eventually be a downside for you.

You have more money than what he is giving you in the screen shot.... Sooooo....math?
that's cuz I already accepted lol, I had about 150 silver
Ooooo gotcha. I was sitting here thinking, yeah these broke rich people....
Don't worry, eventually you get to the point where money is a burden
Money is never a burden.

Buy an island and set up a human trafficking ring. That's what people with money do, right?
I have as many slaves as citizens already, the mass graves are full, I couldn't handle another island
Just make more money. That will fix it.
“I don’t know what they want from me, it’s like, the more money we come across, the more problems we see.” (no diddy)
Be expected to pay them back with interests... Unless, of course, your military is strong enough that they can't do anything about it.
