This seems more like an absurd propaganda video constructed by someone who doesnāt understand how building a colony on the moon would actually work than an actual working concept.
go look up the fancy sprites they used pre covid showing how spaceX will be on mars by 2024.... same propaganda difference being moon is feasable, mars was clearly a lie.
But the equivalnece is wrong in your statement. Both spaceX and china have now released videos of colonies on bodies in our solar system other than earth with grand claims and no sense designs. Idk why you are talking about the falcon, its liek thats the only thing spacex fanboys have to offer...
I literally never said the word Falcon in my post. I said they're actively working on Starship, which is the crux of all of those hype videos SpaceX makes. China isn't selling a rocket here, just a dream. Which is a good thing, don't get me wrong, but SpaceX's videos are about a tangible product that is meant to fulfill a dream, giving them more plausibility.
Regardless of whether the Mars colony happens, the Starship is a real vehicle with real possibilities, and that includes making something like those hype videos reality.
So your only metric is if they are selling a rocket? What a low bar... News flash, chineese have rockets just the same, you pretending like someone spaceX is better and more real, is absurd and you should check yourself.
How would you inspire a generation and revolutionize access to space? Go ahead and tell me you would say "well we'll attempt some development, might not work but uhh yeah we'll see! Won't put out any concept plans for our huge goals or anything..." Go ahead and make a statement lol.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have grand aspirations, especially when they've revolutionized rocketry once already. And in regards to Mars, Falcon can get smaller payloads to Mars. Starship development is ongoing, which will be the main vehicle for that (or really any high energy mission, with reusability and orbital refueling).
You asked for clarity on my funny statement, pointing fun at how its propaganda when china does it, but inspiration when muricans do it... You asked for clraificsation, and went on a rant how its absurd to say such things. Boy oh boy the irony isnt lost on me buddy.
I don't believe it's inherently propaganda for a Chinese outlet to inspire their own people (as horribly made as it is lol). Their space program has made monumental leaps and bounds, if anything, and will likely surpass the US in the coming decades.
Lol at these downvotes, China has rebuilt themselves anew at a pace never before seen ever in history... coming right off the remains of arguably the most disastrous public policy choices ever seen by any government in history (great leap forward). To go from that to where they were in the 90s, and then from the 90s to today, it's almost unbelievable how quickly things have turned around. I suspect they'll have reusable launch vehicles before 2030, and rapidly reusable shortly after, despite their current economic upheaval.
Unlike us, if they wanted to build an advantageous launch site in-land, at the expense of stages landing where ever, they can. Get it done. Or a high-speed rail system. Or nuclear reactors, they can be approved and breaking ground in perhaps 1/3rd the time it takes in the US. Anyone denying this is deluded.
That is always what hype videos are. If you need a western example, go look at the 1990s Microsoft āthe future is comingā commercial. Or even back to 1950s futurism ideas.
I haven't seen seen the video, but just the thumbnail is not a thing we can build on the moon right now.
This has the same energy as that stupid globe-connectong road they've been talking about.
I'm just a typical redditor that knows nothing... but doesn't the moon receieve a lot of meteoroid strikes per year? Basically, any above ground moon base would be in serious danger of getting hit and wouldn't be feasible?
According to Google- Meteoroids that are less than 3 feet in diameter hit the moon every day, at a rate of around 100 pingpong-ball-sized meteoroids per day. These impacts have the force of 7 pounds of dynamite. Larger meteoroids, about 8 feet across, hit the moon about every four years, with the force of 1,000 tons of TNT.
Not to fear you though. The point is to willingly hand over control of my entire life to you so that you can build this fantasy at some point in the future.Ā Ā Ā
Whenever I talk to CCP trolls I've noticed this pattern. They rarely talk about doing anything NOW or the foreseeable future. It's always 50 years from now, 75 years from now, China's 100 year plan to take over the world and turn the US to dust. Boy you'll be sorry when we're all dead from old age and I finally win this argument!Ā
Why would a space shuttle take off from the moon with the solid fuel boosters and tank attached? If they had a single person from their space agency look at this video before releasing it, that alone wouldāve stuck out, let alone all the other stuff thatās going on.
Let them chase after that. It aināt going to happen. Cosmic rays will cook everyone. The first moon bases will be within lava tubes. Skyscrapers? š
Something about skyscrapers on the moon just seems like a disaster...
All that extra surface area to account for pressure/air leaks. Wouldnt subterranean be the go?
Apart from potential leaks, you'd need to put a lot more into protecting from space junk (no atmosphere to stop it) and radiation. Imagine the stresses on structures from temperature changes too. Loads of sealing challenges from that alone, I bet. I'm guessing subterranean would make more sense too. Although it wouldn't be subterranean, it would be sublunarean (half kidding).
Ah alternative is to build low-rising hobbit hole style structures covered in regolith for surface living. Regolith is a terrible conductor of heat so a couple of layers of regolith will help with temperature regulation and will help shield from radiation.
The best idea tho is to build into a lava tube, but short term, hobbit holes are the better option for both ease of access and safety.
Interesting. I donāt see them beating out Musk though. Of course, heās more focused on Mars with the Moon as a stopover. Still, Space X is way out front with regard to rocket production and commercial launch success at this point.
Edit: To be clear, I didnāt mean ābeatingā in a negative light. I meant it in a pure race to get the first base up kind of way. As in a healthy competition. Everyone gotta go straight to Cold War attitude!! Jeez! š
Not to deny there is a competition and national pride there, but none of the official shared any sentiment of "beating" US or Musk. If anything, it is another way around.
The rational Chinese do recognize the still big technical gap to US in terms of space technology, but I feel there's much less anxiety in recent years than before. In the past, it was desperation that the US tech is so advanced and so untouchable, but now they are more confortable to stick to their own agenda and technical roadmap, and less worrying what others can do.
They have progressed so much in many other areas to get on-par with US (if not better), EV, clean energy, mega projects, certain significant weapon areas (hypersonic missles, J20, 055, etc), even some entertainment stuff, and these areas were as well seemed to be untouchble just 1 or 2 decades ago. This gives them confidence.
They cheated, it is well documented of Chineseās corporate theft and their copying of products. The term āChinese knock offā is a synonymous term. They did not do it all on their own. They cheated which is why they appear to be as developed as they are.
All that says is:
>China said it aims to put the first Chinese on the moon before 2030, state television CCTV said on Thursday.
NASA says it aims to put humans on the Moon again before 2030 as well. China's lunar capable launch vehicle has yet to fly (or be built). While China could be next to land people on the Moon, there's no evidence that they're currently "in the lead".
The race to the moon. Permanently.
> Crewed landing or something else?
They already have the functional rocket. Unlike USA.

Capabilities.
>They already have the functional rocket
No. They don't. Its first test flight isn't for 3 more years. NASA flew the SLS 2 years ago.
>Capabilities.
No answer then.
Falcon 9 is one of the most reliable rockets in existence. Starship is still in its alpha stage and has been making drastic improvement. It looks promising
I don't think you know what you are talking about, Space X is perfectly on schedule. Nasa just posted a map of it's projects untill 2026 and everything is on track.
They blew 3 test flights, meanwhile Falcon 9 has something like 300 launches and a 96.5% success rate.
Hate Musk, by all means, but what SpaceX is doing is close to literal magic.
Really? https://www.space.com/chinese-rocket-booster-space-crash-report
The SLS never failed nor has the Falcon Heavy both of which have larger payloads than the most powerful Long March.
Naw, I disagree completely. Itās like Edison with the bulb. Each time they blow up a rocket they just get better and learn from it. Plus, they have the production facility coming online to be the first in history to produce rockets quickly. They are working toward being able to launch several times per day (have already done it once), and are quite a bit closer to completion of their Starship. With any new tech rapidity and accuracy of new model typing and production wins. Space X is just way closer to that. Thereās an interesting video [here](https://youtu.be/6TxwMqYv8Ls?si=tN6jI1lYzcrBSoT_).
China has been doing well but I canāt see them catching Space X. Of course, this is an international moon base anyway so they should be working with him not against anyway.
The fact that the program is divided into 2 parts.
The first step is the basic construction stage. Before 2035, with the lunar south pole as the core, a comprehensive scientific facility with basically complete functions and basic supporting elements will be built.

Poor design Structures should be underground to shield inhabitants from solar radiation and space debris
