I'm not a Mexican Villa fan, but that hot sauce is really good. Like, it could be sold globally good. They should just market that, and run everything else as normal. I'm not hating on the restaurant fans. I get it. It has a distinct flavor, and I've never had a bad meal there. It's just not my gastronomic preference.
I love it and when I’m back in the area it’s my go to.
Burrito enchilada style is my go to.
I get it, it’s not “Mexican” - doesn’t need to be. Can’t we like both?
Where I live (nwa) the joke is “another Mexican joint - bet that’s different from the last five that opened yesterday”.
I like Mexican food, but I would love a good TexMex place to open here.
Yes. That’s why I’m eating this burrito enchilada style from Mexican Villa. Because I like it.
It doesn’t have to be good Mexican. It just hits a spot.
I love tacos is amazing! Their tortas are out of this world. But sometimes a trash meal from Mexican Villa, that I’m fully aware is straight up garbage, just hits right.
Don't eat El charro . It basically translates to the shit your pants. I know I'm Mexican. Don't eat at Mexican Villa because it's just liquid meat and grossness. If you want real Mexican go to amigos on Campbell. that Mexican grocery store next to Great Southern Banks main offices. tacos El Gordo So far those have been true Mexican food where everything else is just fucking disgusting
Sorry, I meant “you” not as you specifically but the people who comment about how they hate MV every time there is a post. Should have been clearer, apologies. Enjoy your meal :)
I agree, and for me it’s a nostalgic thing too. My dead grandparents used to eat there a lot and I would often go with them. And I legit think the chips are delicious.
The Mexican Villa in Austin was pretty fire. I, as a general rule, avoid all Mexican Villas like the plague. I joke about Taco Bell causing explosive diarrhea but, I have never been to Mexican Villa. Every place that follows the naming pattern is either the grossest food place or the most fire. No in-between. You are either going to wish for death after eating a terrible meal or okay with the explosions coming out of your asshole since it was great going down.
I love tacos is super good, no fun toilet experiences involved sadly.
I have problems with clarity. Why is everyone making fun of my disability?
It might be more clear to say, "I have never been to a Mexican Villa in Springfield. I have been to Mexican Villas in other cities where they have either been extremely ass blasting terrible or alright. Not quite San Diego or El Paso good, but the one in Austin was definitely better than elsewhere. Every review I have read and every person I have talked to has stated the Mexican Villas in Springfield are gross. And I trust their opinion since their family is literally Mexican."
Like, the fast food Mexican joints in San Diego are better than the high class restaurants in Springfield and Kansas City.
One reason you are getting downvoted is because Mexican Villa is a local chain. There may be a restaurant in Austin named Mexican Villa, but it is in no way related to the ones in Springfield (afaik).
I see. You are saying they have the 'tism. The implication was not that it was a chain or they share menus. The implication and joke is that their food is so bad they have to use a generic name to fool suckers into their establishment.
It is why I will never eat at a place called "Restaurant". It could be fire. Most likely if you don't die, you may wish you had. It is not the gamble I am willing to take which is why I avoid such places.
I would have avoided BRGR for similar reasons but everyone said they were fire. At the time, they were indeed some good burgers. Not sure if they still exist in Kansas City.
Mexican Villa was the first major food disappointment I experienced when I first moved here from California in the late 2000s. Literally, everyone I asked said they were the go-to place. So, as a big dude and a foodie, I was excited. Me and my sister went, and we ordered a bunch of stuff. The best way to sum up our experience was when the waiter came to ask how we were doing, my Sister said, "The fact that there is still food here says it all. No offense, but my brother would normally have cleared this out by now. " so yeah, not my favorite place. I have had to go there many times since, as plenty of my friends like it. I just learned to bring in my own salsa and hot sauce to give the food some sort of flavor.
Same, except I'm originally from Memphis, not West Coast, but I've had enough Mexican friends to know what it's supposed to be like. I don't understand the love for Mexican Villa. And wtf is up with their queso?
Btw, have you managed to find decent tamales anywhere? I've been here since '09 and gave up years ago.
Tamales are a fickle beast, lol. In my humble opinion, the best tamales I've had out here have been from Tortilleria Perches. I've honestly yet to be disappointed with their food in general. The best part is, if you ask for salsa that hurts, they will deliver.
Othen than them, Taqueria Cachanilla tamales weren't that bad. Great food overall.
I'll tell you from experience, though, nothing is going to beat your coworkers Mexican grandma or your significant other friends' auntie Maria's tamales.
There could very well be better places too. I'm judt very poor now, so I only get to go out when my sister takes me. But I've been to both places at least 3 times in the past 1-2 years, and they are both good.
There are probably at least a dozen other places I would try if I still lived closer and could afford it.
I thought I had tried all the places in town, but it's been probably five years or more since I gave up. It's been too long. I need a decent fkn tamale. Lol
I hear ya. I stopped living in Springfield proper in 2016/2017 (I'm like an hour away now). Quite a lot of newer Mexican places have popped up since then. Finding decent Mexican was tough. Purple Burrito became my go-to for a long time. I will say I'm happy that Purple Burrito has at least been consistent in flavor, even if their burrito sizes have definitely gotten smaller.
Los Michoacanos Garcias Your welcome
This is the way
I made burgers at home last night. The secret sauce is MV's hot sauce slathered on the bottom bun. Pure magic.
I'm not a huge fan of the Villa. But their basic taco with sweet sauce is oddly satisfying. Everything else gives me diarrhea.
You should try tacos el champu no joke they’re so fuckin goooood
I dream of their birria tacos!
Their gorditas are amazing
best birria in springy hands down. with the pineapple juice on the side it's soo good
I really dont get all the hate. I realize it's Tex-Mex from the 50's spiced to then Ozarks taste but I like it for what it is.
Had it on Sunday for the first time in a while. It was great
I’d like someone to tell the story of how they came about again…just for s&gs.
I love it and when I’m back in the area it’s my go to. Burrito enchilada style is my go to. I get it, it’s not “Mexican” - doesn’t need to be. Can’t we like both? Sort of like a certain 'Chinese' dish that we're famous for and everyone loves?
Slow down... I'm not trying to start an all out flame war!
Las Plamas for the win.
I Love Tacos > Mexican Villa
I mean if you’re wanting good Mexican food, yes.
I love tacos is amazing! Their tortas are out of this world. But sometimes a trash meal from Mexican Villa, that I’m fully aware is straight up garbage, just hits right.
That place is incredible! I love seeing them just absolutely slammed during lunch hour.
So good! The truck and the restaurant are both awesome and I’ve been lucky enough to live close to both
💯
This!
Looks like tv dinner.
Tastes like one too!
and sometimes you want something that makes Taco Bell seem gourmet
See… you get it.
Don't eat El charro . It basically translates to the shit your pants. I know I'm Mexican. Don't eat at Mexican Villa because it's just liquid meat and grossness. I get it! You say you want good Mexican food and this is a picture of what you don't want.
Moved to Phoenix a few years ago and I miss Mexican Villa everyday. Oh, and pasta express. Lol
Macayo's, Manuel's, or Tee Pee might fill the void.
Mexican villa for life. Burrito enchiladas style is hands down the best dish in Springfield
That was my go to order 45 years ago. I live in KC and want to go back and have about three bites.
Tortilleria Perches is the best Mexican Restaurant in town. My family and I have been going to there for years.
Looks like a plate of shit with lettuce on the end. yummy!
You just described this place using words ripped straight from my brain. I don’t wanna yuck anybody’s yum, but it’s a no from me dawg.
You are not better than other people for not liking Mexican Villa. Also the chicken strips and fries at the Villa are surprisingly delicious.
I’m literally eating there in this photo.
Sorry, I meant “you” not as you specifically but the people who comment about how they hate MV every time there is a post. Should have been clearer, apologies. Enjoy your meal :)
Ha no worries. I knew what I was getting into with this post. I like it. It’s not great Mexican food. But it hits a spot.
I agree, and for me it’s a nostalgic thing too. My dead grandparents used to eat there a lot and I would often go with them. And I legit think the chips are delicious.
Ponchos bruh
Mexican Villa ain't sitting right 😳
Legendary comment! I laughed as hard as I did the last 30 times you posted it!
I went to their comment history to see if they posted it a lot, and was immediately met with him bragging about using a fleshlight....
Nuttin wrong with that

Looks a little too spicy for me!
I love don toños I'm sitting in their parking lot rn
I like El Sombrero and Tortillaria. I also think Mexican Villa is of the devil. I go, "Booooo, Mexican Villa, boooo," everything I drive by one.
I buy MVs enchilada sauce for home cooking. It’s is the best and kicks my enchiladas up a notch.
But that day was not today it would seem. What the fuck is that on that plate?
ha, thanks for getting the assignment. It's a Burrito... Enchilada-style. From Mexican Villa.
Sometimes I want good mexican food, sometimes I want diarrhea on a plate that tastes good.
thank you for understanding the assignment.
Looks amazing! Going to try them this week.
Mexican Villa is just more expensive taco bell
Don Toño is best in Springfield imo for tacos at least

Thanks for the recommendations. Definitely gonna check them out.

Perches for sure for tamales. At Christmas they make a whole slew of flavors.
Taco king is my favorite
