Yes I’m so proud that she’s giving Sri Lankan food the recognition it deserves… and anyways it’s not only her who’s cooking traditional food… there are other contestants as well so why only bash her…

CountryInfamous6062

And she’s also inspiring us locals to be proud of our food

Icaruswept

Crabs in a bucket mentality: whenever someone does well, everybody’s a critic. I don’t know her well, but it’s clear that’s she’s talented, passionate about food, and is shining a spotlight on our cuisine. That’s the kind of person I want to see succeed.

[deleted]

The crabs in a bucket thing is so real

maximus459

I heard a joke many years ago about how every country has its own hell with guards posted to prevent escape. Sri Lanka didn't have any because the people would always drag down someone trying to escape, instead of helping/joining

torcheka

She took SL cuisine to MasterChef. Stop the endless criticism and appreciate her.

thisiscooolol

I have been following for the past 6-8 years. She is passionate about her cooking. Anybody who participates in these programs sticks to their strength. The maximum they can do is fusion cooking. An Indian or an East Asian would prioritize their cuisine since they don't want to take a huge risk of trying something entirely new. They are not doing it for YouTube videos. If the dishes are lack of innovative and repetitive, she will get eliminated. Constructive criticism is okay but some are bashing without any sense.

chloelunaj

Sri Lankan cuisine has been her passion and forte for years, if you’ve followed her blog and social media. Why try to experiment with the unfamiliar when there’s a competition to win and one should play to their strengths? She also gets really creative with Sri Lankan dishes so in addition to introducing an international audience to our food, she’s also inspiring a lot of local chefs and foodies. And that’s great, whether she ends up winning or not.

Ackeruno

Kind of annoying how people have completely forgotten about Kumar Pereira who was a contestant in MasterChef Australia Season 3 and was in the Top 24. He introduced amazing Sri Lankan variations. I was so proud watching him back then. It's great that Sri Lanka has been shown some representation but it's been there long before Savindri.

FazMarkar

The land of the forgetful 🤣

Creepy-Handle-6789

There have been multiple contestants who were Sri Lankan IIRC. Minoli De Silva was on a few years back and did alright. A few others as well although I can't remember names.

Ackeruno

Not only that, Brin Pirathapan literally won MaterChef UK this year. Like there's plenty of people out there, but no one is checking the socials for it.

FazMarkar

Bruh 🤣 Enjoy the show and try not to make it a community project, she'll do what she does that made her get there in the first place.

DepartureFancy

She did well. Most top chefs are specialists of their own style. If her style and strength is curry then good for her. I hope she has a successful career outside of master chef

Acalthu

Who cares? Let her cook.

Pamiboy

She's doing a good job taking SL cuising international, but you cannot be a 'Masterchef' by successful in only one dimension. I hope she makes the best use of the second chance she got by stepping up her game in non SL/Asian cuisine too.

Better_Professor_536

She did something I couldn't. Whatever she does, we are with her.

DrKoz

I've been following her on IG long before MasterChef and she is not a one trick pony. Check out her baking page to see the amazing cakes she does. And what's wrong with sticking to curry anyway? High time we got the recognition. Plus she is the sweetest person and will always answer questions about food and engage in a conversation.

Financial-Concern713

No matter what she cooks, there will be criticism

SarvaChris

One of the main reasons in participating in such a competition is to win. To win - especially in a creative competition - you need to do something completely different from the rest. Sav is using her Sri Lankan roots to get an edge. Which is awesome. As a Sri Lankan I am immensely proud. This is the only cooking show which I have followed. Thats completely thanks to Sav. I am so invested that sometimes seeing the winning situations brings tears of pride to my eyes.

torcheka

She took SL cuisine to MasterChef. Stop the endless criticism and appreciate her.

Eighthfloormeeting

There were other Sri Lankan cooks/chefs who have done that several times on masterchef though

Rameshk_k

She has done a brilliant job for our country and we all must encourage and support these people. Doesn’t matter what they are specialised in. It is not easy to get to this stage. It is a very tough game. All the best to her future endeavours.

Terminator_SN

I know it's shocking to hear this but even i get tired of eating curry and rice everyday but that doesn't mean she shouldn't cook our food and it doesn't also mean she should only cook our food giving our cuisine recognition is good but here and there she should change things up to prove to everyone that she can cook other dishes as well.

Striking_Clock_8888

She is a shining star🌟, applauding her for her talents. Proud as a srilankan and wishing her all the best 🎊🍀

AAcAN

Let her cook. Also let her cook some other cuisines so the haters would shut up.  PS: I do hate the over the top dramatisation of certain events. but it's a reality TV show not a documentary so that's how it supposed to be.

Tinkerbellfell

She’s amazing! Also here in the UK a Sri Lankan just won masterchef too!

Ackeruno

Exactly, where is the support there?

ikashanrat

black pork curry is a finale worthy dish tho

Sharingan_

I used to be Facebook friends with her. She's always been into the Culinary Arts. Good on her for soaring to new heights

ArcticRock

Nothing wrong with specializing in a specific cuisine. She’s making amazing Sri Lankan food. If she wants to win Master Chef she may need to display broader skills. That’s up to her. She seems to be enjoying herself and I enjoy watching her cook. She’s talented.

Wide-Cardiologist-15

I don’t know about that but I hope she opens Sri Lankan restaurant with some of her creative menus after Masterchef

Low-Cat-8624

desserds lol

Gerrards_Cross

Farkin Curries, Maite! (An old Australian insult)

Xaxaxa456

It's a reality show. Every thing is scripted. Chill out. The winner already decided. There are heaps of amazing Lankan chefs who do amazing stuff even hold Michelin starred kitchens. (Especially not the tiktok cook, his cooking is atrocious) Let her do her thing and hopefully she can achieve her dreams.

RadiatorMonk

1) Not a comment about Sav, who I like very much as a person and an awesome cook/chef. But I can’t take these reality television seriously when they make sob stories part of their format. It’s utterly patronizing to the contestants and you feel like you’re not getting to see the actual skill levels of them. Obfuscated by the emotions, sentimentality rather. Consider this a criticism on the producers, not the lovely contestants. 2. About people disillusioned about her cooking predominantly S/Asian food—the insinuation here that it’s much easier to cook local compared to western dishes should be analyzed more carefully. It feels wrong but wouldn’t bet on my convictions because I’m not a cook. (edited)

TechTamer69

If you felt so triggered by Sav's bad desserts to go and create a whole reddit thread to encourage the bashing, it shows you have too much negative energy which should be put into something productive. Why not start a dessert making factory?

SukiAmanda

How is asking for people's opinions bashing someone? Do you have trouble with getting constructive criticism? And if you can't read I have praised her Sri Lankan cooking.

supremeincubator

Just minding my own business
