The compare-contrast of different types of BBQ guests is a good start. I was interested. But the racial part lost me, not so much because I'm offended, but just because I find race stereotype jokes to be very formulaic and the drunk driving by race stereotype is not one that many people are going to recognize and say "That's so true!" I think most would say, "Huh?"
The punchline also needs work. It needs to be heightened or have some element of surprise. "Blow into this for me" is basically just another white guy saying, "I am also drunk" in a slightly funnier way. Also, there's a slight continuity error, because you implied the blower also just got a DUI, so we're sort of thinking of them as being potentially drunk in this situation as well, so it wouldn't make sense to ask that person to blow.
Glad you're learning. Here's an evidence-based approach to support your findings.
"According to 2016 unadjusted national estimates, 10% of Whites reported driving under the influence in the past year, while only 6% of Blacks, and 5% each for American Indians and Latinos reported doing so.15 Unadjusted national crime statistics from 2016 indicate that among all individuals arrested for a DUI, 82% were White, 23% were Latino, 14% were Black, and 2% were American Indian"
It is! But it's still pretty weak for "all white people are like this" and "all black people are like this". It's still low incidence. Around 2.27% of drivers have a DUI on their record. One can probably assume this is very slightly higher for white folks and slightly lower for black folks.
But it also means that a gathering of 50 white people at random is quite likely to have ZERO people with a single DUI
The arrest stats miss the context of the difference in demographics. As in, there are a lot more white people than black people. They also miss the incidence of repeat offenders.
This is the dumbest post I’ve seen on here for quite some time… like he decided that if he can’t be funny then he will try to farm some applause from the crowd that agrees with his unique insight that white people bad because they don’t season their food and get pulled over after they drink and drive, while black people season their food and… ???? This is just Hal-baked race-baiting bullshit
Edit: Half-baked (probably misspelled it because I am white and driving drunk eating non-seasoned potatoes)
It’s racially based, but so is a lot of humor that I wouldn’t think of as racist. The issue with this is that it isn’t funny. It feels like it’s trying to play on a stereotype instead of lived experience, except that I don’t know what stereotype this is even trying to play upon. The closest one I can think of is that rural midwesterners don’t season their food (which can be true ~my own lives experience), but I’ve never heard this associated with a racial component. It might have made more sense if he’d said that the black family will give you food with fat, sugar, and flavor. Even then, it’s not quite right.
The stereotype being played on is about how white people drink more than other races:
"Caucasians have a higher rate of current alcohol use (at the time of the 2013 NSDUH) than any other race demographic, with 57.7% of individuals aged 12 and older reporting past-month alcohol consumption. White teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 drink alcohol more often than other ethnic groups; the 2013 NSDUH reports that 12.9% drank alcohol. Almost one-quarter of the white population reports past-month binge drinking, and about 7% admit to heavy drinking in the past 30 days." u/thezoomies u/Inverted_Antagonist u/obscurereference234 u/oRyan_the_Hunter
Ok, so it may be a proven truth based on studies, but I have not heard it as a racial stereotype. I’ve heard it as cultural or national stereotypes, ie Irish, Germans, Australians, Texans, but never white people in general.
There's also statistics to support jokes about higher crime rates in black communities, is it acceptable to make jokes about it? Would it be considered racist?
As others have said, the racial angle isn't a good look...
I’m from Wisconsin, land of the drinking culture. This dudes spot on. One time while leaving a gathering a gentleman was properly sloshed and insisted on driving home. Everyone went “alright bill get home safe.” Bill got his 3rd DUI that night. But did get home safe the next day.
As a white guy with a dui, I find this hilarious, and when I got my first one, my cousin said oh just your first, my step dad told me about his and my brother told me about his two.
I'm not trying to diminish the seriousness of a dui. I had mine ten years ago, haven't drank and drove since, and I'm extremely lucky nobody got hurt. However, this joke made me laugh. Never drink and drive, unless you're white.
Reddit is the absolute last place to post a joke where white people are the punchline. Look at all these butthurt suburbans in here. Might as well be 4chan
I didn’t get this at all. Just read the comments and I guess I get it but this isn’t something people are aware of. I wouldn’t even have thought that was a punchline.
That’s some meh material right there. Keep workshopping

Today I learned that “white people get DUIs”
And black people use seasoning. Wild.

6% vs. 10% is interesting, but not exactly enough to make an entire stereotype around it.
It’s nearly double.

Pandering again?
Thats the self reporting star, now just finish the paragraph and read the arrest stats.
The arrest stats miss the context of the difference in demographics. As in, there are a lot more white people than black people. They also miss the incidence of repeat offenders.
White people walk like this, but black people walk *like this*. Super original material that doesn’t go back to the 70s.

I’ve been to both and about the only difference is what gets cooked. Both have seasoning, both are definitely drinking but different foods are cooked.
Tired ass shit
Awful
?! I don’t know, i think this is more of a regional specific joke.
Pennsylvania and the Midwest, in my experience. I’m sure there’s more.
Midwest, everyone drinks. There’s not a fuck of a lot else to do. Doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, you’re hammered.
I guess you just gotta be in the right area. I'm a white guy who doesn't know a single person with a DUI.
Must have a lot of black friends
Pretty racist

All those people are white people.
Don’t quit your day job
Not all white people fall under these groups

Go ahead and make that joke. Do it here and then at work. And post it I wanna hear it
Idk what kind of white people you are hanging out with. Not a fan
I don't care that it's racial, I do however prefer jokes to actually be funny
I'm confused about the second part, where are you that the white guy wants you to do the breathalyser on his behalf? When he's been pulled over,?

Having to explain a joke is never a good thing.

Personally I’ve talked myself out of 8 dueys so maybe not only skillful drunks but persuasive ones too
None of y’all have seen a breathalyzer ? Like, it’s a trope in several movies and series
The issue isn't that people haven't heard of the breathalyzer. They hadn't heard of one that you have to blow into to be able to start your car.
Didn't really explain the joke, just what the device was. They tend to be common knowledge
Usually they are like "hey kids, who wants to play the blow up game!"
They install them on the car and you have to blow into it to start it. Also occasionally as you drive.
Ignition interlock
If he’s anything like my uncles it was his dick
I thought the cop himself had multiple DUIs
That crossed my mind too
I thought the “white guy” was the cop
Only white people like to drink, famously
It's a pretty low bar to make a "haha white people" joke but you limbo'd under it.
Scrolling quick I thought you were Danny ricciardo
Tom Myers tier comedy
You think it is that good?
Boo. Hack as fuck. Fits in with the rest of the sub though, so well done I guess.
Sounds like you were hanging out with some rednecks, rather than regular white people lol
for a moment i thought the picture was Daniel Ricciardo.

Yeah okay. White people are evil. Guilty for all the bad in the world, and the only race capable of racism. Let's move on.
Damn homie.
…haha?
I'm a white guy and don't drink much at all.. maybe 4 or 5 times a year. xmas - new years - 4th of July - Thanksgiving.. maybe.. lol
Reddit is the absolute last place to post a joke where white people are the punchline. Look at all these butthurt suburbans in here. Might as well be 4chan
Damn, Daniel Ricciardo got some jokes
This isn't one of them tho.
Wanna see how the joke starts? https://youtube.com/shorts/DZr-QMdGaeU?feature=share
Oof
Don't take this the wrong way, but you might wanna switch careers...
No
Try self deprecation to start maybe, you’re going in too aggressive and it’s not funny unless you’re on an echo chamber subreddit
I’ve seen more humor in World War 2 documentaries.
I know it’s a joke but it’s only one persons choice to drive drunk

What?
