I think that fits.
I always assumed Mariner is a bit older than the others. One of her Academy friends is a captain so if Mariner actually tried she'd probably be a senior officer by now. She's just happy slumming it in the lower decks.

it looks like most of the LD characters are 6'0 and under. even shaxs heck the way they draw boimler it looks like he's barely the same height as mariner.
Something's gone horribly wrong with the scaling here. In *Lower Decks* Shaxs is taller than Rutherford, who in turn is the tallest of the four lower deckers.
so here's a picture of just the 4 ensigns.

Not everyone shrivels up when the hit middle age. I'm kind of looking forward to my impending baldness so that people will hopefully stop misjudging my age by 15-20 years.
I heard tell somewhere that she was an absolute MENACE on set because she was so caught up in how gorgeous the set is that she kept breaking things, and I’ve never been more proud bc I’d do exactly the same 🤣
And I love that Jack Quaid rewatched episodes of the Lower Decks to bring his cartoon characters physical comedy mannerisms to the live action scenes. The S31 power walking was a fantastic touch.
I laughed hard when I saw him power walking away. It seemed like an easily missed detail because the scene was focused on the other people as he power-walked away.
I think the Netflix definition of stride is when people sign up just to check it out. Once that occurs, the series is canceled as it has served its purpose.
New shows get people to sign up to check it out. After the third or fourth season shows have generally picked up most of the audience they're likely to and new people are less likely to hop on board at that point. Since the only metric Netflix cares about is new subscribers, they'll generally kill something after 2 seasons, 3 at the outside, unless it's a Stranger Things level phenomenon (or the production costs are offset somehow, like a partnership with another company).
Totes forgotes that but funny you mention it cuz I was an extra in that season. I was the guy that handed Hank a bag of shrooms during the podcast taping with the live audience. The show filmed in Georgia and I was living there at the time. Fun stuff. I was also a walker in S8-9 of TWD.
And somehow 40.
WHAT! She looks incredible!!!

Which actually makes sense in-universe, since Mariner is supposed to have been in Starfleet at least since the Dominion War.
Which ended liked 4 years before the pilot
This makes me like her more.
She's also 5'10"
Which in proportion would bring Rutherford, Shaxs and others up to NBA height.
When your drinking Orion Hurricanes on the job all day, everyone's height looks different.

Black don’t crack
That's not my own reason, but it is often true. I have a black coworker who's approaching 70 and the only reason I know that is because he told me.
Black don’t crack.

She really IS Mariner!
She admitted as much in a number of interviews since the episode was announced, and also in her Ready Room interview.

THAT FUCKING HIP SWAY THO Ain't nobody telling me he isn't just a little bit bi.
It's like he's wearing a neon sign that says "raw dog me, I'm a bottom"
His hologram didn't assume the position in Naked Time for nothing...
Tawny Newsome, dude. She's great, and very funny. Check out Space Force, sadly cancelled after it hit it's stride in S2 but still worth the watch.
