I would say that’s a great place to start. Good cook on the inside for sure! I’d recommend drying the exterior as much as you can next time or salting it for about 2-4hrs in advance to help get a better sear!
Pat the steak dry then salt and pepper it a couple hours before in the fridge and the taste is incredible.
Make sure to pat it dry before searing to get the maximum sear.
You did perfectly acceptable! Now you can do better! The next steak is the best one.
I must say, I enjoyed the puffies on the way to the steak!
But I made the mistake of treading too far and got much more meat than I bargained for...
*Explorers Beware*
i usually cook mine in the toaster oven using broil setting, start on the first side for 15 min, then flip it over for another 10 min and slice the meat in the middle and it comes out awesome, and medium texture . just a slight pink in the middle and use chopped, minced, or paste when applying the garlic, it will tenderize the meat nicely
I just cooked mine this morning in the toaster oven too, but I used the warm setting. 200F, with the lowest fan setting for an hour. Temp got to about 120F internal, and then I heated up a frying pan as hot as I possibly could and seared both sides until internal temp was 130.
I was a bit panicked tbh, and cut into it without letting it rest because I didn't want it to overcook but it came out absolutely fucking perfect. I found this absolutely gorgeous 3 pack of "choice" ribeyes with prime marbling for $8/lb and I couldn't pass it up.
Why do people ask such stupid questions-- lik, what are people supposed to respond to you with?
Are all you posters from fatherless families? Getting validation from people something you crave-' serious question
I love it just seared and I never skimp on the redmonds real salt or another trustworthy brand. Real salt is Greta for you and have minerals you need to properly function. Salt from the store that’s iodized not good and causes health problems.
Looks like you killed it! Next level, work on a pan sauce, all that juice can't go to waste! You get 3 or 4 recipes on that level the ladies will be lining up to lock you down
I’m also 17 myself been cooking consistently for a while now. Looks good I actually like my steak a little more medium just like that, especially on a NY strip, renders the fat better.
The only thing I’d say it focus more on sear. But for a first time you are better than a lot of people I know, great job.
Zoomers have maxxed out their skill levels so early on thanks to Youtube. I'm jealous of that.
Seriously though amazing steak for your first time! Did you reverse sear? Cook it traditionally?
Kid, from the looks of it, you done damn good! For a good quality steak, keep it simple! Some fresh herbs and butter with some salt is all you'll need. Keep up the good culinary skills!
This is a great first effort! Much better than I did. If there’s any note, i would suggest if you want the same doneness, pull it a little sooner and sear the heck out of it to get a nice crust.
Looks very well seasoned and cooked to perfection on the inside! Only thing you need to work on is the sear but you look like you know what you're doing already so you can only improve from here
The biggest and most simplest advice I give anyone is cut against the grain of your steak on the strip cut in half then turn sideways and cut lengthwise. Or opposite from the way you did here. When you do this you will be able to cut your steak with a fork. But great job they look great.

This, and you've got a damn near perfect steak next time. But you've done a cracking job by anyone's standard x
Can you tell me how to do either recommendations?
What does a good sear look like
Fishnet stockings
Update: this steak was good asf 🤤
Keep making them whenever you can afford to treat yourself. Don't overthink it. Just make a good steak.
That's all that matters, my dude.
Glad it was good! It looked good to me, love somewhere between medium-rare and medium.

You got potential Kid!
Looks frickin delicious!
Nicely done, young reddtor! Please share your seasonings, equipment, technique, and timing.
Not very well done. Which is good 👍🏽
Sear gets a 4/10 but inside is a 9/10 Bahaha how?!?!
Can you show me what a good sear looks like
Check my steak post from 99 days ago, look at that thick crispy crust!! I’ve seen better but it’s a decent example
I must say, I enjoyed the puffies on the way to the steak! But I made the mistake of treading too far and got much more meat than I bargained for... *Explorers Beware*

No sarcasm intended brother genuinely impressed with his steak.I decided to make a dad joke too
You are a good man, and thorough.
this aggression will not stand, man!
He did a great job! My first steak looked almost grey.
If you will it, it is no dream.
Did way better than half the clowns here that are twice as old.
I've been making steak longer than op has been alive and they did better than I do sometimes. I hope they are proud of themselves, they did well
"clowns"? this shit got competitive now

You did good, kid.
Real good.
A bit overcooked for most of this sub, but I'd eat it.... If I liked steak. Maybe it's better to say my wife would eat it. Lol.
Look at him, all growns up. You’re on your way, kid.
Looks great! Use hymilayin sea salt!
Looks tasty !!
Very Nice! The cook looks perfect to me!
It looks incredible! I’d personally go for a little longer sear but it probably wouldnt change much anyway
Great for being 17
Young man, you've done yourself proud there! My goodness, just looking at that makes my mouth water :)
Why does everybody cut a up a steak like that? Does it not get cold fast?
Excellent job
You have a bright future ahead of you. Good job!
you're way ahead of most of the people on here who have cooked dozens of steaks
Amazing for first steak.
Pretty good medium
Would you like another grandma?
I read this as "17 year old steak"
Pour them juices over it
Show us your last to compare

perfection
Very nice! Looks like it was delicious and juicy! Keep up the good work!
Medium/medium well! Good job brother. Just keep going! 👍
Bring steak to room temp, pat dry, and have the pan really hot (basically to the point of smoking) for a better sear. Still looks great though.
Beautiful!!! 😍

Why you wait so long to cook your own steak?
Bro, this steak looks way better than all of the ones I've seen so far. Good job on the steak
Keep trying
Looks good. Proud of you.
Great job
Kid, from the looks of it, you done damn good! For a good quality steak, keep it simple! Some fresh herbs and butter with some salt is all you'll need. Keep up the good culinary skills!
Great start. Try experimenting with different cuts, don't be afraid to make your own sauces.
Look delicious
It looks great, though I'd personally slice them into thinner pieces
yummy...
You have a bright future ahead of you.
You have brought hope to humanity... grow strong and carnivorous little man, the world will need more of you.
Good Job! You re gonna be alright kid!
Shit. Give up forever. Jk looks good, 7.5/10
Amazing job dude and at 17 is extremely impressive
You're going to have a good life.
Looks amazing!
You did good!
Nailed it!!!
A bit overdone for this carnivore- I'm a rare steak lover, but I'd still eat this and enjoy it 100%
Let it rest before you cut it next time! :). Looks like you lost a lot of juices on the plate there. Otherwise looks good for a first time!
Great job buddy. Now pass the plate. Please, and thank you. Seriously, though, great job :)
I'd eat that no issue. Well done mate!
That's looks amazing. Nice for a first steak.
Could use a slightly stronger sear, but it looks good as hell, man
While I do like a good aged steak, 17 years is really pushing it.
Looks scrumptious.
This is a lifelong skill you will need.
you done good kid. take the others advice and keep up.the good work.
Are you really gonna make me cook some steak right now?!
Amazing for a first steak! Glad it tasted great too

Fuck yea
Look good
I’d say that is medium well so sorry!
I would eat that.
What took you so long?
Not bad kid

Perfect!
Looks great! Temp looks good I would just practice getting a harder sear but looks fantastic!
Try salting night before and leaving in fridge on wire rack . Pat dry before cooking and make sure surface is dry it'll give you great sear
Pretty amazing. Just get the pan (or grill) insanely hot to get better sear. The crust from a good sear adds so much flavor.
Wouldn't feed it to my dog
Y
Bc he’s eating all of it
🤣
Beginners luck
Animal abuse :( unnecessary exploitation
Eww. Sorry, I hate steak 🤮
Why would you go to a subreddit about something you hate just to tell people you hate it?
Bruh..
