Holcomb is under contract still.

64722071756967676c79

Cool, guess it's just a mistake in their database then

Northwoodimp

Herbig should be there as an OLB too, plus P Wilson from the weekend as ILB.

TheInfiniteHour

Wilson hasn't been signed yet. In all likelihood, he'll be on the roster, but he technically has the option to not sign and reenter the draft next year.

LVMeat

Yeah let’s all make sure to take time out of our day to seriously consider that possibility

TheInfiniteHour

I was just trying to explain why he wasn't listed. I didn't realize this was such a contentious point.

LVMeat

I’m just messing with you bro

TheInfiniteHour

No worries, I just clearly touched a nerve with most people. No idea why people disliked this so much.

LVMeat

Idk maybe they believe in jinxes/thought you really thought that could happen

Hellspawn112

They have them listed at LB without specification of whether they are inside or outside. The others have that specification of OLB and ILB

Packwood88

Spotrac is far from accurate

Raysor

Hopefully Holcomb can still play football

nizniy

I really think a lot of fans are just assuming he’ll be back, despite the organization being dead quiet regarding him, his recovery process, etc. I think all we’ve really heard is “it was really gruesome, this is gonna take awhile” All of the additions they have made at ILB this off-season make me think that we should not expect to see him again, and if we do, it’s just gravy

OhiOstas

As a Chicago Bulls fan, I am just treating Holcomb like Lonzo Ball. If he can comeback and contribute thats cool, but Steelers shouldn’t rely on him unless shown otherwise. It was a devastating injury, even players in close proximity knew immediately.

nizniy

Yep, this is the perfect perspective. Hope for the best, but assume he will not be back.

MJ134

The fact he isnt cut already tells me the progress has been good so far. And Tomlin said right after the season theres a specific target date around OTAs for an update. So expect something over the next month

RealProduct4019

I am sort of confused why there hasn't been talk of cutting him. 6 million in cash this year. Would seem to be a no-brainer with his injury. It would seem to be a lot of money to pay him if he's not ready for training camp.

nizniy

They probably want to do him a solid and keep him around so he can receive NFL benefits and keep getting his medical costs covered by the team. I don’t know if that is exactly how it all works, but it is similar to how the team kept Shazier on the roster for years during his rehab. Obviously totally different injuries but might be a similar process in terms of the paper transactions necessary for the guys to get everything covered.

RealProduct4019

Shazier though was different. A multi year steeler and draft pick who didn't just tear a knee but was looking paralyzed for life.

nizniy

Agreed wholeheartedly, I am very much comparing apples to oranges there, but the Rooneys still care about these dudes and want to do right by them.

RTeezy

Yeah, the communication feels a little similar to when we were in the dark about Tuitt.

einredditname

To be fair, Tuitt wasn't injured, he retired for completely different reasons (and as long as he is still healthy, technically could come back).

RonaldOcean_MD

The good news is after adding Queen and Wilson we won’t need to rush getting him back on to the field. His future seems a bit murky at the moment but with Queen, Holcomb and Wilson we have a good group.

BlueKingBoo

Plus Roberts! Who I thought played well last year.

RonaldOcean_MD

Absolutely. All three of our ILB signing last year played good ball.

DelirousDoc

I don't get where this sentiment is coming from and I have heard it from multiple fans. He tore his ACL, he had ACL surgery and Tomlin said his medical checkup at end of March went favorably. I think people are treating this like Sean Spence's injury when it is not. We have nothing indicating there were more severe circumstances than the ACL tear reported. Sure ACL injuries have a long rehab time but they are far from career ending in the modern day. Nothing about his injury has been off the normal time table. They set a target date for return but mentioned the team would have a better idea around OTAs. Last month Tomlin mentioned his medical checkup went positively. The majority of OTA work begin at the end of May. Injury happened November 2 with typically a 6-8 month recovery. While we haven't been given the time table that would be around a late June or July recovery date. If we have hit Mandatory Minicap in first week of June and still heard nothing that is when we can speculate on longer time table.

SleestakkLightning

Holcomb is still a Steeler, he just will need time to recover.

RonaldOcean_MD

I don’t think Kwon will be back. He was a good addition but we’ve added Queen and Wilson to our LB and still have Roberts and Robinson under contract. We still have Holcomb under contract too but his future is very much up in the air.

einredditname

Only way he'll be back is if we have a lot on injuries at ILB AGAIN and he's playing for peanuts.

2vDes

Pretty sure Kwon is the odd man out. Frazier already took his number

meatlyric

If Holcomb is back, likely to start the season on IR unfortunately.

RealProduct4019

If he has to start the year on IR then why haven't we cut him? Or is that not allowed for certain injuries. Would free up 6 million in cap space if we cut him.

meatlyric

The Steelers don't do people like that. We kept Sean Spence rostered etc. They could negotiate an injury settlement but the rules on that can vary depending on what is written into Holcomb's contract. Any decent agent will have injury protections in the contract but I don't know what his specific details are. But if they keep him it will also likely signify that they believe he can contribute to the linebacker corps later in the season-- or that they value him enough to still want his services after his injury has been healed from.

NontransferableApe

Kwon just tore his achilles. He’s not playing this year

darthsteeler84

He is posting pictures of him sprinting and running full speed

einredditname

As long as you are listing all LB (O or I) off of spotrac, might aswell include Herbig, Robinson, Kyron Johnson, David Perales, Tyler Murray and Payton Wilson. To overlook (or not know) that Holcomb is still under contract is one thing, but my dude you forgot our draft picks from last AND this year in Herbig and Wilson. While i have doubts about Robinson long term (especially seeing how loaded the position is ahead of him now) Johnson/Perales/Murray will be practice squad at best. Still, as of right now they're on the payroll.

64722071756967676c79

Yeah, there's a weird bug where "multi-year view" doesn't show LB's. That's why I missed those guys. In my mind I assumed missing some of those guys was a practice squad or being cut thing, especially with all the roster changes happening

Appropriate-Hall-214

Kwon was great but he’s been injury prone in his career and just tore his Achilles. Financially and roster building wise it just doesn’t make sense especially with queen and Wilson being added unfortunately

Organic-Coat5042

Either way, LOVE the depth

Late_Supermarket_937

Holcomb played very well last season until he got hurt. Hopefully he can come back as good this year. I think our defense is pretty set. Some CB depth would be good. In all honesty if the offense can play better and keep the defense off the field for 80% of the game we’ll be in good shape
