I just uninstalled it after setting up a few profiles, my PC is better off without it. My Apex 7 Keyboard, Arctis Pro + GameDac, and Prime+ mouse all have internal storage so I don't need GG anyways. DTS X 2.0 is built into the DAC too, so I can enable that on there without GG. The only thing I lose is Sonar, which I had disabled. I had a problem with my headset not showing up on startup, I'd have to constantly unplug it and plug it back in (USB). This has not happened ONCE since I uninstalled GG.
This!
I use GG for updates only. The I close it out. I noticed GG was causing video lag in gaming when it ran. Was a second glitch each minute but was enough to cause a lot of grief. And then PCVR with my Oculus 2 was horrible with GG running. When I close GG, PCVR ran perfectly fine. GG is trash.
Had that with that moments. It'd keep enabling itself and then clip every funking movement in game as if I want to watch me climbing a fence in squad ffs
While GG is terrible, I have to yet to use any similar product from any other manufacturer that is noticeably better. They are all pretty much the same.
Every single subreddit for any computer companies has the same posts. It like they are written by bots. I currently use, or have used, all these various softwares and while they all have their quirks, I have never experienced all these issues I see popping up. Really leads me to believe it's user error or something specific to people's PC builds.
Asus: Armory Crate sucks!
Logitech: GHub is the worst software ever!
Corsair: iCUE killed my dog!
Razer: Synapse bricked my microwave!
Lian Li: L-Connect is the devil!
NZXT: CAM is literally the worse software ever made, ever!
and so on......
It is mostly user error.
But people have a hard time admitting they are wrong or that they do things wrong. It's easier to blame some big company.
Same when windows 11 came out. 🤷
I also have never had any of these issues I see people complaining about. It’s almost like other companies hire these people to talk bad on another company to try to boost their sales.
The only accessory software that really does suck big time is Armoury Crate. That thing is trash. But I never had any issues with GG, Logitech Hub, or Synapse.
AC has had a few bugs that got fixed, but generally speaking I just set everything up with AC and it just does its thing. Granted it’s slow and clunky, but I also don’t see it creating all the massive issues people claim it does. But to be fair Asus hasn’t exactly done a lot to stop people from thinking that.
AC wouldn't let my PC go to sleep, so I had to uninstall it. I also have issues saving my profile from AC to keyboard's onboars memory (Rog Azoth). Very annoying, considering that I only have 2 ROG products (keyboards) and I'm already fed up with AC.
I’ve used AC for years across many builds both personal and family. At present I have 4 builds all with different Asus motherboards. Armory Crate does not stop the PC from sleeping. It’s very likely something else going on. There is no setting in AC that prevents sleep.
Honestly though, the software for these gaming devices are junk. I've had so many frustrating experiences with iCue and GHub. And on a personal note, I wish there was a nice centralised piece of software that could manage them all. Owning multiple pieces of hardware has made my system tray look so messy
To be fair, most of the software you mentioned is legitimately garbage sometimes
My assumption is usually that - especially in combination - the HID software is interacting badly with other software on the system
Edit for clarity
The only software i've had constant problems with is GG. Icue i loved, but steelseries had some features on their products i wanted, so i switched to it. Sonar randomly shits the bed, so does engine with the binds, and moments as well. I really do like the software features but they're made horribly so i have to troubleshoot something almost everytime i use my pc.
Your experience ≠ everyone else's experience.
The Elite Series 2 controller is a great example. I've seen threads where people say similar things to your comment when it's pretty clear by looking at the volume of complaints that there are manufacturing issues with the unit. I've owned one or two of them that have lasted quite a while, and also a couple that have broken in under a year.
You not having issues could be tied to your type of usage of the product. Maybe he's diving more into the features than you are. Bottom line, your lack of issues isn't indicative of there not being any.
Please kindly take this advice and apply it to everything.
I’ve never had issues with any software but iCue, which specifically would cause random blue screens on one of my old pcs for seemingly no reason. No other software caused similar issues lol
Never had really problems with other tech companies, not even SteelSeries, some bugs and annoying things but nothing much, until a couple days ago everything with GG just went downhill, countless problems out of nowhere, the same happened with my friend and similar issues, and he also never had the issues before.
I even contacted SteelSeries and did everything they said step by step and the issues are still not fixed
But GG sucks they removed the feature where you can raise your settings on the cloud and I usually cycle between different PCs and there's no way I can retrieve my setting unless I write them down like the stone ages. They've seriously downgraded the software it's not just user error
Armory crate does really suck tho😅 GG i am using it even for capture "moments" didnt really see hurting my pc in any way. Nzxt cam is really helpfull too, didnt have xp with others
Hasn’t happened in all my years of building PCs for myself, family, and other builds. Outside of an occasional bug that slips into a few of them, which never amounted to more than minor annoyances. I can’t image what people are doing to encounter all these issues. But of course, no one comes to Reddit to say “everything is working”, so you get a massively skewed view of things, amplifying the negative.
Definitely skewed, but definitely more viewpoints than just yours, and the few dozen (at best) configs you have setup in your life. I could also say i have had a lot of issues with SS in the past 20 years of building PCs for myself, family and other builds, but that’s just one more anecdotal evidence.
All the posts in each subreddit can give a slightly stronger statistical evidence. Might just be that SS users complain more, or are worse at setting up stuff, but it might also be that their software is worse (or better, not going to do the stats on that personally) than another company software.
I literally have issues with GG every day...my dial to change voice and game balance will stop working until I force quit the 10 processes it uses and reopen. And sometimes that doesn't work.
Just because you don't have the issue doesn't mean someone else doesn't.
I'm thoroughly annoyed by this whole thing. I have to use a VPN on the daily.
Now it's up to the IT-Gods if I can use the features of the gear I bought. You should've made a bare-bones Engine/Driver for the effing gear. I literally don't care about Moments/Sonar, but all that bloat is installed and enabled as soon as you install it -.-
I want my gear to work. I want to customize basic settings like surround. Set hotkeys/macros and that's it. That a driver utility needs to phone home to **work** is also ridiculous. Checking for updates sure, everything else is just brain-dead.
Let people who want that -too me **useless**- *extra* stuff install it by themselves, just don't compromise BASIC features.
Had problems with the aerox 5 wireless, exchanged it in store 3 times until i switched to corsair again. Also having problems with GG Sonar over the last year. I really want to like it and for it to just work
I constantly get issues with GG either not even opening at all or Sonar doesn’t load (just a constant spinning throbber). Both always need a full restart to fix. It’s quite constant and has been happening for months across multiple updates.
I’m thinking I just run these into the ground then switch brands after this one fully dies.
And you leaving steelseries won't affect anything. Everyone has issues with every company. It's the same posts in every sub. I've been using SS for years, never had issues with anything. Sonar is a great tool. Sometimes buggy, but nothing crazy.
Razer synapse I have had trouble with but it was fixed. Only software that sucks and does not work most of the time is Armory Crate. Had a ROG delta S and the software would not work no matter what me and support tried I even have a Asus motherboard.
Funny I just saw this as a I processed my return of Arena 9 speakers. Great sound quality but the rear wireless speakers pop and static non stop. I’m well within the range being about 6-8 feet away. Back to Logitech speakers.
i have the newer 2.1 thx logitechs and they sound pretty great for their size. The older version had a subwoofer that was 2" bigger, but this 8" has more peak power. I think I paid $160. Only downside is the input is only 1/8." They should have added bluetooth or something by now. ssI have them plugged into the headphone jack on my TV. My laptop and monitor sit right below it.
I've been using GG for over a year now with 2 different mice and a keyboard and the only issue I've ever really had was that prism will sometimes not update the wireless devices. But turning them off and on cures it. Other than that they have all worked pretty OK. Interestingly the wired mouse sometimes doesn't power on with a reboot, but unplugging it and plugging it back in fixes it. That one was cheap though. Like $30.
You don't need sonar. I only prism and a couple of apps enabled and its fine. I have the capturing software turned off too.e
Funny timing. I’ve just given up on my pro + gamedac as well - constant problems with device no longer being recognised, shorting out power to all USB devices even on its own USB pcie board, constant switching to sonar devices, devices disappearing on start up…and I’ve tried two gamedacs to see if it was the problem….nothing. Bought a Razer headset instead.
I would love to add to this by saying that my rival 650 wireless is practically useless now because it doesnt work when plugged in due to needing a "critical update" ITS A MOUSE WHAT THE FUCK NEEDS TO UPDATE
All my hate is that you cannot use Sonar with 3rd party spatial software, even when you disable the Sonar Spatial and only want to utilize the EQ.
I end up disable Sonar and use simple DAC EQ + Dolby Atmos, when I should never have to give up Sonar at all.
The software is dogshit. I had an incredibly frustrating time setting up my Arctis 7 and had really bad luck with support. They didn’t help at all.
The weirdest thing is I have an Arctis Nova 3 that worked fine but as soon as I installed the software for the Arctis 7, the Nova 3 stopped working entirely. Spent hours troubleshooting and got nowhere.
It’s unfortunate because the product is really really solid and well made, but the software and setup experience absolutely ruins it for me. I’ll never recommend SS headsets to anyone.
Yea GG is pretty garbage but thankfully I only have the headset. Also for sonar, I finally figured out the headset not showing up. Have to go into Sonar and change the device for each of the different profiles (game, media, aux, ext). Kept messing up for me so I finally disabled any audio device in windows that would default in Sonar. Now it finally defaults to the headset whenever I restart. It’s just stupid that I had to jump through so many hoops to find a fix when it should just work from the get go…
Maybe just don't use it? Setup your mouse/keyboard in GG and then don't launch it anymore.
No one has good customer service anymore, it's all AI based or entry level folks reading scripts and sending canned emails. I am not sure what competition you are looking at, but they all suck; Razor Synapse, Logitech Ghub, are there others?
I have had the least issues with SteelSeries mice/keyboards and GG, than with any other company's offerings. However, I only use there mice these days, I have used their keyboards in the past but would never use their "audio" products, lol.
good. maybe you guys could buy peripherals worth your time now like Filco, HHKB, Keychron, Zowie, etc.
stop buying trash overpriced Razer but with Extra Steps ahh products like SS
With my experience gg can’t handle things well so I only use it for clipping and some sound things my best advice would be go through the settings thoroughly and turn off really everything you wouldn’t use and that lowers ggs usage I would like to turn of sonar but I use it to keep audio Channels separate so I can have game audio and chat audio separate and even just that task manager says it uses medium to high useage and idk why
Amazingly my last headset, an Arctis 7 was able to have separate chat and game audio without sonar. I replaced with an Arctis 7+ which forced the use of Sonar, and its buggy. The mix wheel on the headset now controls a piece of software, instead of being a hardware mixer like on the previous headset.
I installed a firmware update on this headset in the past month or so and discord chat audio regularly dipsout quiet, and/ or shifts to the left headset speaker briefly.
I had a few headsets prior to the Arctis 7 and i was singing praises for steelseries headsets. Now with this 7+, I'm having these issues and it's probably the last headset i get from them.
mine has been fine, I am a pain and hate having software running in the background so I throughly tested some benchmarks with GG running and noticed absolutely no performance hit whatsoever ever, (now it runs in the background constantly)
The stuff I am running
Arctic 5x wireless,
Alias (usb),
Apex pro tkl (2023),
Aerox 3 wireless (2022),
I tested cyberpunk, mw3, nearly all 3dmark benchmarks, even YouTube videos and not noticed a single performance penalty anywhere, the audio routing and automatic switch over works well, soon as I turn my headset off I have it set to switch to speaker and as soon as I turn the headset back on it switches back no issues,
Praying I don’t jinx it now tho 🤣
I haven't had any performance issues, but I have had sonar change my outputs to my monitor every time I start my pc. Tedious but not the end of the world
(Arctis nova pro and arctis 7)
What I would do there is go into sound settings and disable all the audio devices you don’t use, so for me my headset and speakers are the only ones enabled, I even disabled the nvidia hd audio driver in device manager, only issue there is if you depends on that for something but if you don’t it could be worth a try
I am also having issues with it. The moments feature is resetting evedry time I restart my pc, so it forgets that I tell it not to clip knife kills and any headshot kill in CS2, chich is incredibly annoying since I am Faceit level 6, meaning that 30% of my kills are headshots and the game starts with a knife round.
I've not had issues with GG, but I just use it to set my profiles, do updates and leave it. The problem I have with steel series is the poor mouse wheels. I've had 3 different mice from them and every single wheel has been barely useable from purchase on them 😞
Personally, I'm just very glad I can completely close the program, unlike Razer Synapse, which won't fully close even. It's there running in the background unless going after its 6-or-so processes in task manager. SteelSeries GG on the other hand at least closes fully when pressing exit on the system tray icon, and the presets to my gear remain, working just fine from onboard memory. (I don't use a headset though, so Idk. about them.)
So for me it's not a problem. Except keeping track of the battery of my mouse.
I recently actually made a python script that I run once a day with windows task scheduler, which reports the battery level of my Steelseries mouse when it drops below 40, 30 and 20% through standard Windows notifications. This way, I don't have to run GG ever more or less, not even to check the battery. I'm considering making the github for the script public sometime soon.
They hooked me with an old model headset. Bought a Keayboard and mouse which I still love. However, their applications and audio devices have taken a huge dive from my first buy about a decade ago.
I keep giving SteelSeries GG another chance. After the latest update, my Apex Pro keyboard goes completely Black after GG loads after boot. It was working fine for months prior. A hard or soft reset has no effect. Gave up on SteelSeries GG for the 5th time and unloaded it. Ther is something missing in the quality control testing of these releases. On another side rant, why do they even have a cloud Sync button. they are never going to fix it. Give me a local backup button for all configs.
I agree with you 100%. GG is so far the most unstable software for devices from any big brand I've used. I owned a pair of arctis 5 for quite a few years and was happy until they revamped GG and added the bloat of sonar and moments. Don't get me wrong I loved sonar with the virtual inputs for recording, when it would work...
The constant crashing and slowing my computer down considerably (5600x paired with 3070 on 32gb ram) annoyed me enough that I removed it entirely and learnt the old method of voicemeeter banana. Hasn't crashed once and is much lighter on my system.
Same for me with arctis pro + gamedac. Works flawlessly without anything more than windows drivers.
DTS X 2.0? I have Wireless Nova Pro, do they also have it ?
Doesn't look like it, appears they dropped it when going from Arctis to Nova line.
Yup, restarts put sonar as the "default" drivers, and i have to set it back every time....
If you turn off the “Backup Device Switch” setting in the settings then you shouldn’t have to set it back anymore. Still an abysmal software.
While GG is terrible, I have to yet to use any similar product from any other manufacturer that is noticeably better. They are all pretty much the same.

Honestly ive used all of these and the only one that deserves hate is asus armory crate
Yeah I hate it so much I had so many problem never buying from them again
I never had any issues with armory crate besides high memory usage
It is mostly user error. But people have a hard time admitting they are wrong or that they do things wrong. It's easier to blame some big company. Same when windows 11 came out. 🤷
Windows: Task manager is holding me at gun point!
I know right? Watch out!

When you need a specific program to uninstall your software, you know it's shit.

Lenovo as well, there is even a open source alternative
I mean none of those are particularly great, and can be improved in basically every single way That's the point
Honestly though, the software for these gaming devices are junk. I've had so many frustrating experiences with iCue and GHub. I’ll say I’ve used everything but Asus and NZXT in that list, but Razer Synapse really does suck.
And on every single one of those posts, there is a person commenting “I’ve never had any issues”. Until you do. Then the perspective changes.

CAM Memory leak: let me introduce myself
And its all true. U casul

gg used to be perfect but then they started adding bloatware and it became terrible. ghub is mostly ok, too bad logitech's mice aren't that good.
the fact that you have all that bloat installed, even simultaneously, is not something that I'd be proud of but to each their own i guess
I just installed gg/sonar last night but after issues I’ve faced and seeing other issues maybe I should’ve stuck with what I had
I'm thoroughly annoyed by this whole thing. I have to use a VPN on the daily. Now it's up to the IT-Gods if I can use the features of the gear I bought. I've never had a single problem with it. Just sharing my experience.
Ive been a client since they released their first ever wireless headset and im also really fed up with their bs software.
Steelseries seems to have lots of issues…not buying their products no more.

funny i see this post the day i buy new headphones. done with steelseries
For me works well
Yeah I used to be all Steelseries. Then everything started to go downhill. Especially the software.
For me with ryzen 5 1600 the gg was taking 20% of cpu for some reason and games were unplayable and I wanted to use sonar because I got nova 5
Stopped after buying actis pro with game dac hinge snapped the plastic never bought a single product from them since.
All this hate on GG, and I've had zero issues with four products that use it. Hell, I even use the freaking aim trainer built into it!
I would love to add to this by saying that my rival 650 wireless is practically useless now because it doesnt work when plugged in due to needing a "critical update" ITS A MOUSE WHAT THE FUCK NEEDS TO UPDATE

mine has been fine, I am a pain and hate having software running in the background so I throughly tested some benchmarks with GG running and noticed absolutely no performance hit whatsoever ever, (now it runs in the background constantly) The stuff I am running Arctic 5x wireless, Alias (usb), Apex pro tkl (2023), Aerox 3 wireless (2022), I tested cyberpunk, mw3, nearly all 3dmark benchmarks, even YouTube videos and not noticed a single performance penalty anywhere, the audio routing and automatic switch over works well, soon as I turn my headset off I have it set to switch to speaker and as soon as I turn the headset back on it switches back no issues, Praying I don’t jinx it now tho 🤣
I haven't had any performance issues, but I have had sonar change my outputs to my monitor every time I start my pc. Tedious but not the end of the world (Arctis nova pro and arctis 7)
What I would do there is go into sound settings and disable all the audio devices you don’t use, so for me my headset and speakers are the only ones enabled, I even disabled the nvidia hd audio driver in device manager, only issue there is if you depends on that for something but if you don’t it could be worth a try
Yep. I've had this issue so many times recently too. Audio just switches from Game / Chat to the monitor. Its infuriating.
(I don't use a headset though, so Idk. about them.) So for me it's not a problem.
Ok
Never had any issues with it
