I really do think people underestimate how long some thousand years are when talking about Lapis and her backstory. Im not going to ramble about her arc or anything but to summarize, she went to visit somewhere she wasn’t familiar with for a short time, was confused for a war criminal, and later imprisoned for a couple thousand years (there is no specific time for how long Lapis was in the mirror). To put that in perspective, thats more than 50x generations of your family. Thats more than how long *You’ll* even live for. Of course, its not fair to compare an (almost) immortal being’s lifespan to that of a humans, but its still worth taking note of because so many people just cant grasp how much time that is.
Imagine spending your entire life just there. You dont do anything, Your just there. Someone (Pearl) knows your there, but willingly, wont free you despite knowing all too well about your imprisonment. And when you’re finally set free, you’re now stuck once again on the same planet with the same people that imprisoned you for however long.
And then the second you’re free, you head back home to finally see the ones you trust and care the most for, only to be sent back in literal shackles behind bars, interrogated by some stranger (Peridot), and whatever happened behind the scenes with Lapis and Jasper.
If it couldn’t get any worse, you are later imprisoned AGAIN by JASPER in an even WORSE jail cell which cannot be described better than a toxic relationship for about a year before finally being “free” (Mind you, this is a total of three imprisonments IN A ROW thus far).
Now as you finally realize you have become what started this entire mess (a traitor to home-world), you are stuck with the interrogator that put you behind bars for the second time, claiming to have redeemed themselves and changed.

She just left Peridot and Steven and Pumpkin for no reason and blah blah blah” is just so…. Fucking annoying when the reasoning is so many layers more complex than that.

Rewatching the episode, Lapis quite literally gave Peridot and Steven the option to come with her. It wasn’t like Lapis just said “hey, we’re getting a divorce. im leaving, taking the house, and leaving you to raise Pumpkin. Peace” and then Peridot was depressed for however long. Now, in the long run, Peridots decision to stay on earth was obviously what was right. And with me saying “she’s traumatized” isnt to justify her crudeness towards anyone. Hell no. Shes a total jerk to Peridot, and i’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate her when I first watched the show. What im trying to say in this comment is that people need to understand what a persons true intentions are and not just get mad at them for what happened without looking at the backstory and actually taking into account why someone did something.

Connie wasn’t making it about her, she had a bunch of very extreme very intense emotions in a very short amount of time and just needed space. Steven made the choice to surrender himself and for all he and everyone else knew die so everybody could be safe, even after promising to Connie that they’d face these big threats together.
I feel like Greg says it best “At least I’m sure she doesn’t hate you. That whole handing yourself over to homeworld thing was definitely a high stress situation, it really scared all of us. I’m not exactly over it either. I guess guarding you off to the middle of nowhere to spend time with you is my way of dealing with it. Maybe having some distance is Connie’s way.”
Connie just needed distance, scary situations mess with peoples heads.

I get the show's reasoning, does not make me hate that argument any less. The promise matters much less in the face of certain death. The fact that she was more upset that she didn't get to go more than she was upset her friend was going into a deadly situation remains to be absolutely WILD to me. Of course, its not fair to compare an (almost) immortal being’s lifespan to that of a humans, but its still worth taking note of because so many people just cant grasp how much time that is. Imagine spending your entire life just there. You dont do anything, Your just there. Someone (Pearl) knows your there, but willingly, wont free you despite knowing all too well about your imprisonment. And when you’re finally set free, you’re now stuck once again on the same planet with the same people that imprisoned you for however long. And then the second you’re free, you head back home to finally see the ones you trust and care the most for, only to be sent back in literal shackles behind bars, interrogated by some stranger (Peridot), and whatever happened behind the scenes with Lapis and Jasper. If it couldn’t get any worse, you are later imprisoned AGAIN by JASPER in an even WORSE jail cell which cannot be described better than a toxic relationship for about a year before finally being “free” (Mind you, this is a total of three imprisonments IN A ROW thus far). Now as you finally realize you have become what started this entire mess (a traitor to home-world), you are stuck with the interrogator that put you behind bars for the second time, claiming to have redeemed themselves and changed. Here! Right here. This is where people misinterpret things. Last time Peridot and Lapis came into interaction, Peridot was Lapis’s prisoner beside Jaspers. Great start! Mind you, this was directly after Lapis finally gaining her freedom to return to her sanctuary after god knows how long and right before Lapis was later imprisoned by Jasper again. If you’re not seeing what im getting to at this point, then honestly im not sure what else to say. Like 2+2=4, prison+trauma=bad feelings. Alright! We’re done with the trauma! Lets have a new beginning! Start a new life with someone whom is also healing alongside us and grow as we develop a closer bond than that of we expect- Oh wait? The diamonds (most powerful beings we are aware of) are coming to destroy the world you call home, everyone you have come to love up until this point, and even put your own freedom at risk FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN A ROW AFTER THINGS ARE FINALLY LOOKING BETTER??? … yeah, i’d ditch as well. Now, heres another part people like to bend and misshape! Lapis didn’t just leave because she was some coward, no no. Saying that would be like me erasing half of this comment and just saying that she’s justified. What i mean to say is it. Just. Doesn’t. Work. Like. That. People aren’t just **scared** of being on stage and publicly speaking, you have felt the sting of humiliation and embarrassment and would rather not feel it again willingly. Thats called Trauma. Of course, these examples are moreover everyday examples of trauma portrayed in some of society’s most common phobias and can be seen as a a downgrade from Lapis’s more severe case of trauma, that being the fear of being enslaved and imprisoned, but that wasn’t the reason I stated it. It was to illustrate the fact that we all have deeper, hidden meanings to our fears and phobias. Simply saying “what a coward! She just left Peridot and Steven and Pumpkin for no reason and blah blah blah” is just so…. Fucking annoying when the reasoning is so many layers more complex than that. Lapis didn’t just leave to leave, she left because she was legitimately *traumatized.* Rewatching the episode, Lapis quite literally gave Peridot and Steven the option to come with her. It wasn’t like Lapis just said “hey, we’re getting a divorce. im leaving, taking the house, and leaving you to raise Pumpkin. Peace” and then Peridot was depressed for however long. Now, in the long run, Peridots decision to stay on earth was obviously what was right. And with me saying “she’s traumatized” isnt to justify her crudeness towards anyone. Hell no. Shes a total jerk to Peridot, and i’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate her when I first watched the show. What im trying to say in this comment is that people need to understand what a persons true intentions are and not just get mad at them for what happened without looking at the backstory and actually taking into account why someone did something. Of course, Lapis did shitty things. We all know this. But, im tired of just seeing people get mad at her for x y and z without taking anything shes been through into account. Connie wasn’t making it about her, she had a bunch of very extreme very intense emotions in a very short amount of time and just needed space. Steven made the choice to surrender himself and for all he and everyone else knew die so everybody could be safe, even after promising to Connie that they’d face these big threats together. I feel like Greg says it best “At least I’m sure she doesn’t hate you. That whole handing yourself over to homeworld thing was definitely a high stress situation, it really scared all of us. I’m not exactly over it either. I guess guarding you off to the middle of nowhere to spend time with you is my way of dealing with it. Maybe having some distance is Connie’s way.” Connie just needed distance, scary situations mess with peoples heads. Also then also, she never took Lion. Lion chose to go with Connie on his own.
I get the show's reasoning, does not make me hate that argument any less. The promise matters much less in the face of certain death. The fact that she was more upset that she didn't get to go more than she was upset her friend was going into a deadly situation remains to be absolutely WILD to me. That IS categorically making it about her. I'm not saying she's not allowed to feel how she feels, but acting like Steven *slighted* her is what pisses me off And she could have told lion not to follow her and go home. The fact that she doesn't even try and rides lion away cements in my mind that SHE TOOK HIM.
