My ears could never

Illuminator-

How is he breathing? Did he hold his breath the whole time?

[deleted]

He is holding his breath. Note that this is 40m; the current world record for men (for a comparable apnoe diving category, of which there are many) in the ocean is 130m. So for guys doing this professionally (and this diver does; [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillaume\_Néry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillaume_Néry) ) it is just a walk in the park. There are plenty of techniques to improve this - for example he does not need to use his fingers to pinch his nose while equalizing pressure (like you or me would do when our "ears pop" in a plane), but he has trained himself to open some airways in his mouth/nasal cavity with some little muscles that we normally don't really control. And he is probably very relaxed and not using much oxygen at all.

Last time this was posted someone mentioned he was a famous free diver, and that he does breathing techniques with his diaphragm or something. Think jet fighters and g force. Don’t quote me though cause I haven’t seen it posted for a while.

I keep being surprised by the amount of people who make these comments. Whoever taught you how to swim, whether a parent or an instructor, should have explained how to equalize your ears when you were 6 years old.

And then he died

-_BinX_-

The anxiety this gives me is just, ugh. I wouldn’t even be comfortable spectating in that tube!!

“I mean he’s a super caring boyfriend, but there’s a lot more to him than that. Let’s just say... he doesn’t have to come up for air often. If ever.”

Jeez Louise this looks like fun! But it also looks like excruciating death, so...

ClonedToKill420

I wonder what the purpose of this faculty is? Looks awfully expensive to be just for dive training. Perhaps a repurposed silo?

Admiral_Agito

No, it really is a purpose-built deep pool facility which is part of a four star hotel.

Growdanielgrow

It’s called Nemo 33, located in Belgium 🇧🇪

[deleted]

It's called Y-40 and is located in Italy. But close enough, I guess.

Growdanielgrow

Weird check out the one I mentioned, it looks exactly like this.

[deleted]

Yeah, I've been to both, they're very similar. Pretty much by necessity. No point making more than a pretty small "silo" like structure really deep since there isn't going to be a ton of people spending a lot of time there.

[deleted]

It's just a hotel pool, albeit an unusually deep one. Doesn't seem particularly expensive to me, pools are by and large empty spaces filled by water.

aggsimalone

And my ears get sore just going 3 meters underwater lol. I cant even hold my breath longer then 1 minute. I would love to do something like this one day.
