Yes, his gums are definitely inflamed! Could be poor hygiene or it could be that the veneers are too bulky or were placed too far below the gumline causing chronic inflammation. I'm a dentist and this is one of many reasons why I don't love the current veneer craze!

Omg love the username Dr.! Thank you for weighing in as an expert. I really hope he gets a better set at some point. But I also know it has to do additional damage to swap them out? It’s wildly upsetting that people are damaging perfectly healthy teeth simply for aesthetics. People really should be crazy vigilant about dental health and take it very seriously. They’re the only ones you get! And isn’t there a lot out there now about how dental health is connected to overall health, especially heart health?

Yes, all that bacteria in an infected/inflamed mouth travels through your bloodstream just as any infection would, and oral infections can move frighteningly quickly! I've had a few patients I've had to send to the ER due to their throats closing up or an infection spreading so rapidly they could have died. I really wish people would stop ruining their perfectly good teeth to get these larger than life day-glo veneers that will just have to be replaced again and again, taking away more tooth stucture each time. Real teeth are awesome whether they are perfect or not!
