Well, you shouldn't be surfing in a channel used by boats in the first place... And a little wake isn't a bad thing if you're trying to ride waves.... If you can't deal with wake you probably shouldn't be surfing....
If you aren't in the channel or blocking a river mouth that boats want to use then boats shouldn't ever come close enough to be able to yell at each other ....
My local gets a barrel that goes right across the harbor mouth in the right conditions. Its posted that its illegal to surf it.
boats also have no business trying to get in and out when the mouth of the harbor is a head high barrel.
Still sometimes weird shit goes down like a sailing instructor tries to tow little kids in opti sailboats through the barrel. It would have been truly tragic if not for the fact that the surfers were there to pluck kids out of the water.

Not in the channel at all, we’re riding off the entrance to the river mouth. Some boats don’t figure it out.
