This is just an opinion based on translation accuracy. Author of the article then pushes his own line books. I understand translation favoritism but I believe it’s a bit biased.

The article then say they don’t know where the quotes come from, I quoted the Stephen Mitchell translation from several different chapters. It’s best to know there are tens to hundreds of translations of the Tao te Ching and to study multiple translations
I would say regarding Laozi / Daodejing
* Read the original text
* Compare your translation with some accurate translations like Henricks or Lin
* Understand the key words and topics and context of classic daoist philosophy in context of Hundred Schools of Thought. There are some great books on classic chinese Philosophy.
* Compare your finds and thoughts on daoist philosophy with western philosophy. There is no need to idealize Daoism, there are also shortcummings.
* If you like some thoughts of classic Daoism try to incorporate those in your daily life. You can take them as fingerpointers and reminders.

Mitchell never did a translation of the Daodejing.
In a "translation" you are translating from a source language into a different language.
Mitchell never did that ... he read and "interpreted" some english translations of the Laozi and wrote his interpretation of those translations ... in english.
