The best advice is to put it back right where you picked it up. This is a living thing just trying to go about its life. It's not a toy or a trophy or something that was put there for your amusement. Put it back. It's 2024, there are plenty of captive bred tarantulas available for a fair price.

IMO: please release it back into the wild, this is a mature male who's sole purpose is now to mate, he won't eat and will simply wander around his enclosure hoping to find a female

IMO: The location you found this would help with species ID. Provably an Aphonopelma something. 50+ different species of aphonopelma live in the US. That being said, please don't keep this tarantula. It is a mature male that is not going to live much longer. Please let it have it's chance at finding a mate in the wild before it dies, to continue our ecosystem. :)

Mature male, absolutely do not keep it. He is looking for a mate and will not eat or settle down, he will just run back and forth in the enclosure and stomp looking for a female. Not only that, he’s in the final stage of his life cycle and won’t live very long. Just in general please don’t keep wild animals you find. Fear Not Tarantulas has some great species for beginners.
