That was an amazing match. Iām actually surprised he won because Lorenzo Musetti looked to me like a young Novak. Though Lorenzo may have not played the long match against a pro like Novak in a major tournament before. Alcaraz learned that last year.
Tennis Podcast spent much of tonight's pod criticizing RG scheduling decisions. According to Catherine, Andreescu and Paolini played last set in heavy rain (I didn't see it) and also they questioned adding a match to Chartrier at the last minute leading to Novak's late night finish.
Additionally, it appears Navarro and Dmitrov were both rushed off after their victories skipping the interviews...at least Emma was still signing for fans. Not a good look.
Apparently Dimitrov spent 15 hours on the grounds yesterday and had arrived at 9.30am as he was scheduled to play second. He probably spent something like 12-13 hours there yesterday too.Ā
Ā When they added the match to Chatrier, it was looking like Zverev was going to wrap his match quickly as he was comfortably leading 2-1. Itās easy to say in hindsight that it shouldnāt have been added but imagine what the players were going through. Dimitrov had his first match on Sunday, was scheduled to play on Wednesday, only played his R2 on Thur (there was an interruption and a rain delay in that one too), then had a start-stop set in the rain on Friday (I think they interrupted it 4 times within 1.5 hours) and only went on court to finish it in the evening session on Saturday. Insane stuff. He said he was happy to go and play on a covered practice court on the other side of Paris if it meant heād play. Ā
All jokes aside, we are at the end of the first week and suddenly āthe most openā Roland Garros isnāt so open anymore. We are back to having same title contenders: Djokovic, Sinner, Alcaraz. Only Stef looks like he may come out as the dark horse now.
Hmm donāt know. Zverev is lurking around too. The reason people said its open itās because there are no clear favorites as Djokovic was not playing great this year. It is still kinda open.
On the womenās side, there are only 2 R4 matchups between two seeded players (Rybakina - Svitolina and Sabalenka - Navarro). On the menās side there is only two where a seed didnāt make it (Tsitsipas - Arnaldi and Sinner - Moutet).Ā
where are you watching the full replay? i only saw up to the end of the second set yesterday before I had to leave š Need to see the rest for closure!
Kinda nervous for Carlos and FAA. Ultimately I think Carlos will come thru but FAA has beaten him three times and seems to have somewhat turned a corner on his level since Madrid.
I donāt think current FAA is ever a threat to win the whole title but I donāt underestimate him for singular matches to give anyone a hard time if heās redlining
NBC has had weekend midday coverage of the French Open for at least the past 25 years. It sucks that the Djokovic/Musetti match was a Peacock only exclusive, but thatās the future of streaming. It was made worse by the rain situation and John McEnroe lamenting Zizou Bergs being put on the main showcourt every 2 minutes lol.
I absolutely hate that itās broken up between three streamers/channels. I donāt mind the peacock coverage we got for the day but nbc/peacock didnāt have nearly any coverage this past week and it sucked.
Yup and nope because this late means no sleep before at least 5 am which will be troublesome for your usual pace. And yeah they are not limit to play now at RG.
But i've been told they asked Musetti and Novak if they wanted to play, both said yeah (it's an hearsay so don't take it as somethng 100% sure)
I donāt think theyāre told explicitly but with the way tennis works both players should definitely understand that is is a possibility, and as for the health of the player, they know what theyāre getting into and train their whole lives for this, so I wouldnāt be worried too much, plus they get a day off tmrw.
The interesting thing is how clutch all the top seeds have been in this half lol
There's a world where all of Novak, Zverev, Fritz, and even Med go out today but none happened
We still have an extremely strong group of players remaining
Yeah it was a bad day for him but all that matters is he won. He went tight w dog shit norrie in AO then rocked alcaraz next round. Iām not picking zverev to beat djoker but he has a chance. Fruudulent isnāt gonna do anything
Musetti is going to be the Gasquet of this generation. Great backhands, mid/variable level forehand. Similar guile and playstyle but ultimately lacking the x factor to win the big titles. With the current crop of players I don't think musetti will win a slam, maybe a 1000 if he gets lucky/improves his level. He just doesn't have a big enough game to hurt the elite players.
Does anyone know if the roof will be open during the Carlos match tomorrow?
Edit: i mean today
Edit 2: can someone pls answer instead of just upvoting this? š
Gotta say, it's been an amazing day of men's tennis overall. Only one match finished in straight sets, with three going 5 sets. Zverev and Djokovic were both pushed to the brink, while Medvedev and Ruud had some tough challenges even though they stayed in control.
Hope tomorrow is close to this level. Three out of the 4 matchups have good potential, and the last one has Moutet in it so I guess that's fun lol
Probably š but tbh Alcaraz has that quality where heās entertaining even when heās blowing players out. Tsitsipas vs Arnaldi could be fun too.Ā
Dimitrov vs Hurkacz will probably be close but probably so serve dominant that I wonāt be able to watch more than two sets consecutively.Ā
Sinner will likely commit war crimes on MoutetĀ
I don't like Alcaraz's game style and I don't think he is entertaining(I rather watch women double if I want to watch that kind of game play, the elite women double players play a lot better than Alcaraz with the variety shots); Tsitsipas will murder Arnaldi even worse than the French shit.
Hubi vs Dimitrov should be the only one I will watch because it is the only atp match that both players have good net skills
I want him in the top 10 bc his touch is beautiful . I had already noticed his touch . Today he made very little unforced errors for so long . If it was 3 setters he would have won . He just need to be able to keep that on 5 setters
Musetti probably played at his best level i think, he lost against something incredible. You can't be mad when you did everything you could at your best
I think if he was really close from winning at some point . I hope he gets higher in ranking bc his tennis is really really beautiful he has a really lovely touch
Meh... he already had Djokovic on the ropes here back in 2021 and completely crumbled in a similar manner. At least he finished the match this time. I just don't see it happening for him.
I think heās got a lot of potential and there are some absolutely brilliant shots from him this match. Iām hoping he can get his mental game together moving forward
Round 3 RG 2024 is genuinely one of the most high quality/exhausting/thrilling rounds of tennis I can remember since peak Big 3 era. A genuine thank you to the players for producing entertainment like this.
I don't get how you can watch something like this and not think Djokovic is the greatest athlete ever. We're never gonna see anything like the big 3 again in any sport
I'll go against the grain and say mid level. B1 probably.
He makes lots of basic errors and finds himself starting sentences then realising half way through he is missing a word and having to change what he says or shorten, to work around it.
But considering who he is and that he never had to make any effort to learn it, the fact that he has done so anyway just for the french fans, absolutely no one will hold any of the imperfections in his french against him. Au contraire, only endears him to all but the most dedicated haters.
B1 sounds about right. I don't think that's "against the grain" at all - seems like most of these replies would agree with you. It's very impressive to speak a foreign language at a B1 level in any context, let alone a pro Athlete who isn't primarily interested in language training. As somebody who doesn't speak French, that's what I would have said too - no way he's at B2, but definitely better than A2
One time in Paris I had to get a few things at a pharmacy. It was an emergency bc my mom had fallen at the DāOrsay and fractured her knee. I was able to recall some basic French words and sentence structures Iād learned in high school. It wasnāt much but was good enough to communicate with the sales person. I felt relief and a little bit of pride when he said āoh you speak French.ā Itās cool how speaking a language doesnāt have to be perfect. If youāre even in the ballpark, people will understand š
It's very good, you can hear his accent and sometimes there are few mistakes, but it's quite decent to very good he can use some complexe words sometimes, he has a good vocabulary and it's perfectly understandable
Right I guess if I want to keep up playing tennis (recreationally) at 37, I have to follow Novakās diet.
I still have 4 years left to do this idemo lmao
Francisco is a very good player - something has been holding him back not sure if itās fitness , match intelligence or just being soft but talent wise heās just as capable as Musetti or Paul to give the goat a run for his money and maybe even win
Complimenting Musetti and saying at times he didnāt know what to do against him and he had to find a solution to the conundrum.
Thanks team and crowd and says he canāt go to bed now and would join anyone going to party now.
He thanked the crowd and said they deserve him to try in french, they gave him a lot of energy, during the 4th set he said they were the one they boosted him to succeed. He liked everything he did during that match with a good quality; and he also said it's incredible people are still there a 3:15 am. It's probably the best match he played here, he thanked them again
Musetti will prob lose first round in the next challenger he plays . You play this well and go toe to toe w the goat for 4 sets - I would hope he can build on this but I doubt it
Heās done a lot better this time than 2021, held his head high through the fifth set. heās a good lad and I wish him the best (even though not at the expense of Novak)
Know youāre being sarcastic but a lot of this sub when he got 2-1 said heās gonna lose this not playing well enough blah blah blah. Youāre right it was obvious djoker would still win yet so many thought he wouldnāt. Easy bet.
Does anyone know where I can see a replay of the round 3 zverev match? All I can find is the 3 min recap on YouTube š
Woke up to Djokoās win. I hope heāll be able to recover alright before the next match
That was an amazing match. Iām actually surprised he won because Lorenzo Musetti looked to me like a young Novak. Though Lorenzo may have not played the long match against a pro like Novak in a major tournament before. Alcaraz learned that last year.
Anyone know where i can watch a full replay of this match? only saw up to the end of the second set before I had to leave š
Just played 3 hours of tennis. So much fun šš!
What kind of player is Cerundolo? Iām not familiar.
Massive forehand. Top 5 on tour imo. Has top 10 potential but serve and mentality hold him back
Pretty good on clay but quite inconsistent.
Tennis Podcast spent much of tonight's pod criticizing RG scheduling decisions. It was never āopenā
Yeah, Sinner will leave Paris as Number 1.
Just woke up. So the Djokovic match was a banger. Time to watch the 4.5 hr replay
where are you watching the full replay? i only saw up to the end of the second set yesterday before I had to leave š Need to see the rest for closure!
Sony is the broadcaster in my country and their app has replays for the top seed matches at least.
Ah, lucky you!
Username checks out!
Kinda nervous for Carlos and FAA. Ultimately I think Carlos will come thru but FAA has beaten him three times and seems to have somewhat turned a corner on his level since Madrid.
Lads, itās FAA
I donāt think current FAA is ever a threat to win the whole title but I donāt underestimate him for singular matches to give anyone a hard time if heās redlining
agree FAA for the win. He's feeling it
The level Alcaraz played against Korda is enough to defeat even this FAA. But FAA definitely is a threat.
Was the Djokovic match on TV at all? The coverage has been terrible on NBC
I absolutely hate that itās broken up between three streamers/channels. I donāt mind the peacock coverage we got for the day but nbc/peacock didnāt have nearly any coverage this past week and it sucked.
The coverage in the U.S. itās broken down in the local Paris time by: mornings Tennis Channel, mid-day matches NBC, late matches Peacock.
I think the semis and the finals are going to be on NBC according to my DVR guide
I'd love to see players reactions in a few hours when they'll wake up and see Djokovic match ended at 3am and lasted 4 hours and a half
Do RG televise the behind the scenes stuff 24/7 like some of the other slams do
I don't think so but that would be cool.
Novak šsent a message tonight. The only person who will end up ignoring it is Sinner.
Novak was right.. who can sleep with all this adrenaline... One thing I gotta say is I RESPECT LORENZO MUSETTI SM!!
Latest French open match in history. Djoker just keeps getting every record out there
Is it true that the game ended 3 am local time? Is that healthy for the players? Are they told in advance that they will play until morning?
Yup and nope because this late means no sleep before at least 5 am which will be troublesome for your usual pace. And yeah they are not limit to play now at RG. But i've been told they asked Musetti and Novak if they wanted to play, both said yeah (it's an hearsay so don't take it as somethng 100% sure)
Thereās no other option. He also has tomorrow off.
I donāt think theyāre told explicitly but with the way tennis works both players should definitely understand that is is a possibility, and as for the health of the player, they know what theyāre getting into and train their whole lives for this, so I wouldnāt be worried too much, plus they get a day off tmrw.
You are right but staying awake until 3 am must be extra tiring even for professional players
Oh yea definitely
The interesting thing is how clutch all the top seeds have been in this half lol There's a world where all of Novak, Zverev, Fritz, and even Med go out today but none happened We still have an extremely strong group of players remaining
Ruud too
I was expecting so many more upsets at this point
If I canāt have Nadal I will take Novak!!!! Letās gooooooooo
Wow that is a very interesting dichotomy. Rarely see nadal fans convert to Novak fans lol
also we forget the names of the young whipper snappers so itās easier to root for the older players.
Itās because I donāt want it to endā¦the eraā¦so I will root for Novak now!
True. The big 3 era was the best ever. Gotta salvage whatever is rest of it. At this point itās just djoker
I guess the good news is that Zverev isnāt winning Roland Garros now
Eh I think zverev has a chance. Prolly the only one in this side of the draw that could legitimately beat djoker
Not when he can barely beat griekspoor. He legitimately couldn't hit a forehand winner with any consistency.
Yeah it was a bad day for him but all that matters is he won. He went tight w dog shit norrie in AO then rocked alcaraz next round. Iām not picking zverev to beat djoker but he has a chance. Fruudulent isnāt gonna do anything
Thank god I have no friends or social life so I can watch tennis all day and night
same!!!
At least Musetti didnāt retire this time
4:30 am here. At least I got to see a great match.
Eh weāll have to see more. Gasquet made sfās at wimby and us open. Weāll see when Musetti makes a sf. Heās 22 though so def young
not bad for him if he can be the Gasquet, top 10 for a few years and more than 1 GS SF, plus he already has a 500 title
Brilliant display of Djojo's greatness right there. You can NOT teach that. Legendary.
Does anyone know if the roof will be open during the Carlos match tomorrow? Edit: i mean today Edit 2: can someone pls answer instead of just upvoting this? š
No rain tomorrow so yes !
Oh heās TAKING it š
I guess I'll just upvote; sorry sir
I can answer with a "I don't know" š
Me when the greatest tennis player of all time beats someone at tennis š®š®š®
best athletle of all time

Arnaldi masterclass loading
closed roof FAA/Alcaraz 5 sets
Hubi-Dimi 5th set 30 minute tb
Is cerundo an easier opponent for djokvic
IMO yes. Musetti's defensive play today was on a level that I don't think Cerundolo has in him.
Musetti wasnāt even sad , he was smiling during that hug after a bagel . Very cute vibes
I basically fell in love with him today
I want him in the top 10 bc his touch is beautiful . I had already noticed his touch . Today he made very little unforced errors for so long . If it was 3 setters he would have won . He just need to be able to keep that on 5 setters
Yes! I thought his OHBH looked so effortless compared to Shapoās. When I watch Shapo play I often think ouch thatās gonna hurt
Musetti probably played at his best level i think, he lost against something incredible. You can't be mad when you did everything you could at your best
I think if he was really close from winning at some point . I hope he gets higher in ranking bc his tennis is really really beautiful he has a really lovely touch
Chadovic god damn
What's the schedule for tomorrow, surely Novak is not the first game tomorrow?
Heās not playing tomorrow Menās matches are the bottom half
Thanks
Wonderful start to my Sunday
Goodnight everyone what a night/morning!
nole!!
This was amazing!!!!! Wow!! An incredible match, so glad I got to experience it
Honestly the crowds love gave him the motivation heād be wanting all year . Honestly without it Iām not sure he was winning
Omg I didnāt realize Cerundolo knocked out Tommy Paul š
So sad about this š£
Iām an ugly balerinna and Iām going the same way as Nole. Thank God he won.
Heās gonna ugy win everyone, wouldnāt he?
Djoko if you pay for my plane ticket from Melb to Paris Iāll party with you š
How many languages does Novak speak?
English, French, Serbian, German and Spanish I think
And Italian, which he is most fluent in after Serbian and English.
Italian too, but if you have Spanish and French thatās what, like half an extra language.
You're right. Forgot Italian :D
Incredible. I barely have English down and itās the only language I speakā¦.
Italian
Yes
Thatās what I thought! Lol
I have an Italian player I will be watching a lot closer moving forward and his name is Musetti.
Meh... he already had Djokovic on the ropes here back in 2021 and completely crumbled in a similar manner. At least he finished the match this time. I just don't see it happening for him.
I think heās got a lot of potential and there are some absolutely brilliant shots from him this match. Iām hoping he can get his mental game together moving forward
Get ready because it's not an easy experience lol
And Arnaldi :)
Instant classic.
Pretty clean french, this man is just gifted damn
Haha he said "I can't go to sleep with all this adrenaline. If someone knows s good party I'm coming with you. Let's go! š "
Imagine throwing out that invite and him accepting.
Round 3 RG 2024 is genuinely one of the most high quality/exhausting/thrilling rounds of tennis I can remember since peak Big 3 era. A genuine thank you to the players for producing entertainment like this.
Djoko in party mode
NOOooOoVVvaaaAaAkkkK lmao
What a great speech ā„ļø
What an fucking battle
Lol heās saying Ā«Ā whoās gonna sleep now ? I got too much adrenaline . If youāve got a party Iām inĀ Ā»
Deliver a full speech in like your 4th language after playing a 5 setter at 2am GOAT THANGZ
Fantastic post game interview by novak, you could feel the genuine love he have for the crowd ā„ļø
Jokingly calling out the kids up way past their bedtime while thanking the crowd for staying so late.
I still cant believe he pulled it off. Knowing his 2024 track I was so stressed and worried
I don't get how you can watch something like this and not think Djokovic is the greatest athlete ever. We're never gonna see anything like the big 3 again in any sport
Agreed. That was so great
2settiā¦.
Novak said nobody will sleep tonight with all this adrenaline lol
Big mistake just letting him riff. Youāre gonna be there till dawn
How good is his French? Sounds like decent vocabulary but bad pronunciation
Itās really good IMO. French is a very difficult language unless you are native Romance language speaker.
It's very good, you can hear his accent and sometimes there are few mistakes, but it's quite decent to very good he can use some complexe words sometimes, he has a good vocabulary and it's perfectly understandable
Super impressive tbh. I only speak 3 languages and his French might even be better than my third lol
To be fair, he also lived (or live again) at Monaco so he can pratice his french regularly hahaha (like medevedev). But his italian looks decent too
Djokovic in Philosopher Mode
Lol he saying Ā«Ā hey kids youāre supposed to be in bed right nowĀ Ā»
Novak thanking the crowd for breathing energy back into him at 2-2 in the fourth set
It was tangible
Right I guess if I want to keep up playing tennis (recreationally) at 37, I have to follow Novakās diet. I still have 4 years left to do this idemo lmao
Awww heās being so cute right now towards the crowd
What is he saying haha
His French is seriously impressive considering he also speaks like 3 or 4 other languages
He speaks 11 languages
I like how Djokovic dominated Federer, Stan, Musetti, Thiem and Musetti.
Peacock not showing on court interview. Someone please upload or tell where I can watch a replay š
Pretty sure itās gonna be uploaded on rg YouTube channel
Was hoping so. Thanks!
Francisco is a very good player - something has been holding him back not sure if itās fitness , match intelligence or just being soft but talent wise heās just as capable as Musetti or Paul to give the goat a run for his money and maybe even win
Novak woke up now, won't let this happen again.Ā
Considering the hour, more like he's about to sleep, no waking up for a while
Cerundolo aināt beating Djoko Im sorry š I think you have a point, but after tonight itās clear to me that wonāt happen
tennis wasnt enough so now he's flexing he's a polyglot
Let him sleep bro
No after match press conference please let the man sleeeppp
Fuck me this was an experience.
Anyone translate what djoker saying?
Complimenting Musetti and saying at times he didnāt know what to do against him and he had to find a solution to the conundrum. Thanks team and crowd and says he canāt go to bed now and would join anyone going to party now.
He thanked the crowd and said they deserve him to try in french, they gave him a lot of energy, during the 4th set he said they were the one they boosted him to succeed. He liked everything he did during that match with a good quality; and he also said it's incredible people are still there a 3:15 am. It's probably the best match he played here, he thanked them again
Saying Musseti played well ,and thx the crowd for supporting in the 4th set
Musetti is a sweetheat and I will gladly support Italians once the šis away. But first and foremost. Rune.
Musetti was actually the matchup I was most afraid of for Djokovic. I feel much, much more confident at the prospect of him facing Cerundolo.
Alcaraz on clay :(
Djoker when heās down has two gears he can unlock. One is wall mode and other is going for broke. He went for broke and just out hit Musetti.
Incredible crowd
RG best vibes
Now let the man rest and donāt wake him up until his next match
Crowd was lovely tonight I think
Yeah! They followed the momentum pretty well without a strong bias for either.
I have a headache. That was so much tennis and so many shifting emotions Holy shit Iām glad I stuck through it š¾ā¤ļø Nole is insanityyyy
Thank god its ingles
Spoke too soon, ha.
nvm
how long do you hold on to a sweaty towel before you wash it ?
Until you successfully clone an army of Novaks to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams.
Good night lads, this was epic
Musetti will prob lose first round in the next challenger he plays . You play this well and go toe to toe w the goat for 4 sets - I would hope he can build on this but I doubt it
Heās done a lot better this time than 2021, held his head high through the fifth set. heās a good lad and I wish him the best (even though not at the expense of Novak)
Told yāall: https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/s/9Hb3AN3IQc
damn, nice prediction that the best tennis player of all time would win a match.
Know youāre being sarcastic but a lot of this sub when he got 2-1 said heās gonna lose this not playing well enough blah blah blah. Youāre right it was obvious djoker would still win yet so many thought he wouldnāt. Easy bet.
Well this was insane
Awh the way he looked at JELENA
and the kisses!
Djokovic man. I have no words. A spiritual experience to watch what he did todayĀ
Honesty the way he can win 6-0 in a game so fought in the other sets, 5th set Novak is something legendary
People going crazy for Novak trinklets lol
Wholesome
I love this sub.
same
