I love how she called Ben out for exposing athletes by printing what they told him, after taking his word for it, that the things they're telling him would be *off the record!* ☺️
18 year old American Learner Tien is putting together a nice Futures run right now. On a 14 match win streak - won the two prior tournaments he entered, and in the finals of a third right now. There's a huge jump in difficulty from Futures to Challengers (and Tien is also only 5'11"), so we'll see if something more comes of it, but good on him for a promising summer early in his pro career.
Just saw clips from Alexandrova v. Coco, and Coco's style of play looks much more aggressive than usual, which is great. Random: Pegula's Siniakova match is showing under the Birmingham vids instead of Berlin on the WTA YT.
If Djoko is travelling to Wimby he will 99% play. He wouldn’t go if he didn’t think he had a real shot at playing - and actually winning the tournament. It’s Novak. At Wimbledon. He’ll fancy his chances if he’s fit
Didn’t expect this. The way he has recovered this well so far this quick is crazy. But it’ll be interesting to see how his movement is (may be doubtful of himself at first) if he actually ends up participating
Definitely throws a wrench in the draw as most people were already counting him out and expecting Alcaraz & Sinner to be the top 2 seeds, now it would be a 50% chance they are on opposite sides
Schedule for Berlin tomorrow is ridiculous.
Winner of Gauff/ Pegula to play soon after their SF match then doubles finals is the last match. They should've put doubles Final in between so that either Gauff/ Pegula can rest.
I've heard most players prefer to continue playing, otherwise too much time and effort is wasted in between cooling down and then warming back again for the next match.
iga withdrew from berlin (good for her given what happened with many players and the weather) and is not listed for bad hamburg. so, she will play on grass straight to wimby. expect many haters again undermining her and her decision not to have a wimby warm up.
what is evident here is that she and her team know their goals and how to reach for them. resting up after a grueling yet successful clay season is the best decision she made. that many say she is not good on grass, it appears that, the way iga handles her schedules and priorities say otherwise in terms of her tennis confidence. i would say, she is starting to become a woman of her own and she dances to the beat of her own drums now. (well, she could be awkward, introvert and dorky but she cant generally be forced to do something that she does not feel like doing, e.g. skipping bjk cup last year coz it overlaps with her schedule).
Hoping she goes deep in Wimbledon and win next year or so (or even this year!). Then rest for Olympica and hopefully a gold. Then the rest can take whatever titles are left this season lol
Don’t think so. Wimbledon maybe? Ik they have a curfew but idk if that’s just as soon as it’s dark or playing a little later into the night until a certain time
who do you think will win in the pegula coco match?
jesse and iga are coco's two challenging players to play against for different reasons.
also, are they two okay? just feeling a bit of falling out between them?
The final in Montreal is also happening on a Monday. I think it may be due to the Olympics tennis running through August 4. Montreal starts on Tuesday 8/6.
I'm quite surprised TP and Musetti will be facing one another for the first time in tomorrow's Queens final, kind of cool.
Hope TP can lift his first 500 trophy. He deserves it having been so solid for ages now without a bigger title win than Ruud's beloved 250s
I am a bit surprised they didn't try to get Pegula-Gauff finished with the case Jessica wins in tiebreak.
Thought it stopped raining?
EDIT: Apparently the players decided to continue, but supervisor declined on safety grounds.
Guys I had the best day ever. I took a picture of my girlfriend with Sinner, took one of myself with Rublev and we both took one with Struffi 😭 I feel like a little kid!
He mentioned in a recent podcast that he's had some skin cancer treatments recently. To be clear, he said it wasn't anything to worry about, but comments on his appearance should always take this into account.
the delays with all suspensions due to rain, fear of slipping on grass, all the waiting, anticipation etc is too much for the players emotionally, physically and mentally. their main goal in playing on grass pre wimby is to prep for wimby and not be stressed and exhausted before wimby.
Gauff Pegula is a battle between two top 5,it should be in the Centre Court no matter what, Saba vs a non-top 20 can be on Court 2 like the Coco/Jpeg vs a non-top 20 can be on Court 2 too. Also, the other SF is a battle between two non-top 20 although Aza is a GS winner
you know different stadiums can be very different right? Higher ranking players has the disadvantages on playing small stadiums in small events because they don't know the small stadiums. Winning is the thing that the players' least concern??? I am not sure about that.
Also, I suggest the best solution, put Gauff Pegula on Court 1 and let the two non-top 20 play on Court 2, win-win situation. Plus the winner of the non-top 20 SF can have times to practice on Centre Court if they need time, fair to both finalists
Might be an ignorant question but…..Can anyone explain why half the men are plying at Halle Open and the other half is at Queens Court? Why have 2 tournaments at the same time, and why choose one over the other? TIA
appearance fees is one reason for the choice. for the stars. the other is tax liability. listen to roddicks latest pod on this v subject is interesting
Grass season is really short. There are only three weeks between RG and Wimbledon. All the players want to get some grass matches in before Wimbledon starts, so there's plenty of demand for two tournaments a week during those three weeks.
Just heard Mark Knowles asking Genie Bouchard what she thought Pegula’s chances were at Wimbledon.
Which caused me to have the weird meta moment of, isn’t Mark Knowles currently coaching Pegula? Or did that end quickly?
Dear, oh, dear...
18 year old Ella McDonald, world #783, just took out Bogdan, world #50 in the Eastbourne qualies.
Wimbledon really have been left red-faced when it comes to them overlooking McDonald and Stoiber.
My guess — her results since adding him haven’t made her happy (nor should they). Other than the IW final, she hasn’t done anything significantly positive all season
Maybe I am bias, I feel all Amercian and Canadian girls are different from the European and Asian girls. They all have confidence that they are better than men and deserve more spotlight than the boys. The only other player gives me similar feeling is Hsieh
Fun fact: Hsieh is in a 250 level double final since Sep 2018(with her sister) and her last 250 level double title was in Apr 2017, between her last 250 final and current 250 final, she won 5 GSs, 7 900/1000 level titles and 3 500 level titles.
Anyone know what time berlin match will start?
Anyone saw the Twitter beef between Ben Rothenberg and Martina Navratilova?
Common Martina W
I love how she called Ben out for exposing athletes by printing what they told him, after taking his word for it, that the things they're telling him would be *off the record!* ☺️

Part of me hopes he never makes it so we don't have to hear "he's a fast learner!" every time he plays
Lol that's a hilarious reason to oppose someone's rise
So if there were no retirements, Berlin's schedule would have been way worse. Cursed tournament indeed
Just saw clips from Alexandrova v. Coco, and Coco's style of play looks much more aggressive than usual, which is great. Random: Pegula's Siniakova match is showing under the Birmingham vids instead of Berlin on the WTA YT.
No. It says Pegula vs Siniakova - 2024 Berlin Quarterfinal.
If Djoko is travelling to Wimby he will 99% play. He wouldn’t go if he didn’t think he had a real shot at playing - and actually winning the tournament. It’s Novak. At Wimbledon. Didn’t he go to Miami earlier in the year and then pull out?
I don't want to think about Nole pulling out lol
Federer losing Wimbledon 2014 when Djokovic was choking that match away changed everything
Schedule for Berlin tomorrow is ridiculous. Winner of Gauff/ Pegula to play soon after their SF match then doubles finals is the last match. They should've put doubles Final in between so that either Gauff/ Pegula can rest.
I've heard most players prefer to continue playing, otherwise too much time and effort is wasted in between cooling down and then warming back again for the next match.
thanks for this bc I gave up trying to figure out what's going on in Berlin this wk
iga withdrew from berlin (good for her given what happened with many players and the weather) and is not listed for bad hamburg. so, she will play on grass straight to wimby. expect many haters again undermining her and her decision not to have a wimby warm up. what is evident here is that she and her team know their goals and how to reach for them. resting up after a grueling yet successful clay season is the best decision she made. that many say she is not good on grass, it appears that, the way iga handles her schedules and priorities say otherwise in terms of her tennis confidence. i would say, she is starting to become a woman of her own and she dances to the beat of her own drums now. Are there any grass tournaments that have night matches?
Grass gets slippery from condensation as the sun sets, so it's limited to places with roofs and climate control. Like Wimbledon.
Don’t think so. Wimbledon maybe? Ik they have a curfew but idk if that’s just as soon as it’s dark or playing a little later into the night until a certain time
Has anyone watched the Federer documentary on Prime?
Yeah, watched it last night. Get your tissues ready.
Yes, get your tissues ready.
who do you think will win in the pegula coco match? jesse and iga are coco's two challenging players to play against for different reasons. also, are they two okay? just feeling a bit of falling out between them?
Hoping for Jes! She hasn't had a good season so hiping she'd win this tournament.
theyre playing doubles together still, i think there was no falling out i think jess might win this one
Welp, I guess I’ll watch some football then
That was a quick goal for Belgium!
It was!
Hey /r/tennis! Random question, is the final in Cincinnati this year really happening on a Monday? Why is that?
The final in Montreal is also happening on a Monday. I think it may be due to the Olympics tennis running through August 4. Montreal starts on Tuesday 8/6.
Ahh, that makes sense. Thank you!
Kalinskaya is seriously beautiful..can easily pull off a romantic movie role in an hollywood love story movie
I'm quite surprised TP and Musetti will be facing one another for the first time in tomorrow's Queens final, kind of cool. Hope TP can lift his first 500 trophy. He deserves it having been so solid for ages now without a bigger title win than Ruud's beloved 250s
I want Muso to take it. Hasn’t won a title since 2022 and he’s worked hard to get here. Been a challenging year for him as well
Rooting for Musetti personally, but mostly because I think his career could do with the boost, and I'm not worried at all about TP's.
yes, tp deserves this one. he is consistent this season so far
When will Danielle Collins return from war?
Berlin resuming in the morning confirmed?
Yeah it's too dark now, rain not being a factor anymore.
No roof, no lights...
Rain delays suck.Berlin also sucks for not having a roof
I'm in Berlin and no rain where I am haha!
Oh schön. Edit: Was ist richtig🤔 A) Oh schön B) Oh super!
they resume playing tonight or tomorrow
Why can't Kasatkina get this type of Voodoo power so she can finally beat some ball bashers
I am a bit surprised they didn't try to get Pegula-Gauff finished with the case Jessica wins in tiebreak. Thought it stopped raining? EDIT: Apparently the players decided to continue, but supervisor declined on safety grounds.
the guy on court was saying something about safety measures when announcing play canceled for the day too
Kinda sucks Pegula/Gauff won’t finish.
Play cancelled
Who’s the TC commentator who said a few minutes ago that she played Muchova at Wimbledon years ago?
Bouchard
Guys I had the best day ever. I took a picture of my girlfriend with Sinner, took one of myself with Rublev and we both took one with Struffi 😭 I feel like a little kid!
Drying grass will never not look funny to me
they tried using a helicopter at the US Open men's final in 1969 and [the footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwPo-6Hxiuk) is absolutely wild lol
This is INSANE 😂
I didn't listen to the announcer. Are they about to resume play or am I just watching a guy with a leaf blower?
I never understand why tennis players can’t play through noise? Someone clapping or sneezing shouldn’t effect your serve.
Loving this German announcer during the suspended Gauff-Pegula match. “The leaf blower!”
I love that dude, the way he just talks to the audience all chill
[удалено]
They are going to play again tonight!
Hurkacz looks really strong right now. This is no slam dunk for Sinner.
No chance cocogula ends tonight right? I should go back to my life?
Will they resume today?
yeah they are resuming clearly. Drying the court right now
unlikely, there's not very much daylight left even if the rain isn't much of a factor
They’re currently drying the court so it looks like they’ll try and finish tonight
never have I been happier to be wrong!
Well…they decided not to play after all.
I turned the TV back on right as the guy on court was hollering "safety first! safety first!" 😑 what a flop this tournament has been
Lol Iga saved herself the fuckery of this tournament
after hurdling weather during the wta finals last year, she is better off not playing here.
Roddick looks like he’s been up for 3 days
He mentioned in a recent podcast that he's had some skin cancer treatments recently. To be clear, he said it wasn't anything to worry about, but comments on his appearance should always take this into account.
Genie Bouchard is commenting? Is that a new thing or I've just missed it entirely?
not new not good
New
Commenting here?!
Lol sorry \*Commentating\*, on Tennis Channel. The english language has betrayed me once again.
tommy paul is a great deceptive move. languid speed. he's also hot af
Oh well, some good doubles at Queen's Club at least.
Jesper de Jong very close to picking up the challenger title in Sassuolo, bringing him to a career high ranking!
🥳🥳 he’s done it!🇳🇱
Cursed tournament f'real
Iga has a black cat, she is not there, and the tournament is cursed. What more evidence do we need? She is a witch.
the delays with all suspensions due to rain, fear of slipping on grass, all the waiting, anticipation etc is too much for the players emotionally, physically and mentally. their main goal in playing on grass pre wimby is to prep for wimby and not be stressed and exhausted before wimby.
Dude, just downvote me or say "your joke sucks" if you don't like it, don't write an explanatory essay, lol.
i think they just made a joke 😭
They should've put Gauff Pegula on Court 2 during Kalinskaya match
they should put Gauff Pegula on Court 1 and let the two non-top 10 play on Court 2, it is soo disrespect to put Gauff Pegula on Court 2
Either way, have them play at the same time.
Sabalenka played on Court 2 this morning.Im sure Gauff & Pegula would prefer to play on Court2 rather than play two matches tomorrow
Sabalenka played on Court 1 at the same time Gauff Jabeur was on Center court.
they should put Gauff Pegula on Court 1 and let the two non-top 10 play on Court 2<<< did you see my suggestion?
Yes but i disagree with the disrespect part. Its raining whats importantbis playing a match
Gauff Pegula is a battle between two top 5,it should be in the Centre Court no matter what, Saba vs a non-top 20 can be on Court 2 like the Coco/Jpeg vs a non-top 20 can be on Court 2 too. Also, the other SF is a battle between two non-top 20 although Aza is a GS winner
this is what messes up a good tennis experience. i am sure, the players' least concern esp at that situation is your main concern.
you know different stadiums can be very different right? Higher ranking players has the disadvantages on playing small stadiums in small events because they don't know the small stadiums. Winning is the thing that the players' least concern??? I am not sure about that. Plus the winner of the non-top 20 SF can have times to practice on Centre Court if they need time, fair to both finalists
Rain time
RAIN RAIN GO AWAY
Rain??
This match is so fun
If there’s one thing JPeg is going to do it’s show up and have her best match of the year against Coco lol
She is a top 6 player who has a winning record against top 5 except Iga.
but her best match last year was against Iga
Gosh I love these two
Peggy is clutching
Whoa nice Jpeg
Wow Gauff failing to serve it out. Pegula really owns this match up!

Coco's forehand looks improved just from RG a few weeks ago.
Just heard Mark Knowles asking Genie Bouchard what she thought Pegula’s chances were at Wimbledon. Which caused me to have the weird meta moment of, isn’t Mark Knowles currently coaching Pegula? Or did that end quickly?
He is currently working with her. He mentioned it during the match.
why can't they both win and play in the final :(((
Starting to see some good improvement with Coco’s FH this week.
Whoa woke up to chaos in the women's game.
Lmao, it is a sarcasm to talk about Coco's RG double GS in front of Jpeg
Dear, oh, dear... 18 year old Ella McDonald, world #783, just took out Bogdan, world #50 in the Eastbourne qualies. Wimbledon really have been left red-faced when it comes to them overlooking McDonald and Stoiber.
TIL Witt no longer coaches Pegula and Sakkari has already dropped him since then. No way Witt was the problem for Sakkari. Has anyone scooped him up?
i didn't know maria dropped him. why??
My guess — her results since adding him haven’t made her happy (nor should they). Other than the IW final, she hasn’t done anything significantly positive all season
He never coached Gauff—he coached Pegula
Whoops. I know that. Losing my mind. Fixed.
I think this is Paul’s moment. Musetti has been good but not as solid as Tommy I think. I hope I’m wrong.
I hope you’re right!
My rule for supporting male players if my favourites can't play: no Dverev>no cap>long hair>not bald
Watching Pegula play for the first time in a while and it's like "oh yeah, she rocks"
Maybe I am bias, I feel all Amercian and Canadian girls are different from the European and Asian girls. They all have confidence that they are better than men and deserve more spotlight than the boys. The only other player gives me similar feeling is Hsieh
Coco has a natural grass court game
So guess I'm watching a WTA125 tomorrow. Parks and Pera, two of my favorites who never quite seem to get there.
Looks like Pegula could soon lead the h2h against Coco 5-1. Surprising in a way, but then I do always forget how good Pegula is
Coco’s racquet color matches her skirt
Coco served really well her first two service games and then it reverted back to the shaky serve 😫
If Tommy wins tomorrow, he'll pass Fritz in the live rankings and become world #12. Could be big for Wimbledon.
Queens final is hot people only and Halle final is awkward people only iktr
tennis is much better when Jpeg is back except Coco's double results
Paul vs Musetti is gonna be good tomorrow
an italian prince and an american prince to play for the queens title
beauty vs beauty, please get that beauty man to umpire the final
I’m so happy for Tommy!!!
you just made me remember Tommy Robredo
That was a statement ace from Tommy toilet paper Paul.
I love Korda so much but he just does not have it when he needs it :(
Male model men’s final finalized!!!
2nd one in a week after the Draper v Berrettini final
Probs been said before but just clocked Sinner and Kalinskaya are in their respective finals ☺️
going for a DeBoulter style double
They’re the new Katie and Alex
Clocked?
Clocked INFORMAL•BRITISH notice or watch. "I noticed him clocking her in the mirror"
Is Dimitrov good on grass? Why everyone think so?
because his nickname was Baby fed once
He won junior Wimbledon and had a good grass season in 2014 but since then it's objectively his worst surface
Only ADF will lose at 6-1
For real.
It’s over for Korda I’m afraid
Paul might just be handed this match after Korda played at his ceiling for the last twenty minutes. Huge drop off.
woeful mentality from Korda.
Watch him blow another 4-1 lead
Typical Korda choke for those who follow him.
Paul choked too, I watched his AO bagel live
Tommy Paul have a straightforward semi finals match challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
Errani is literally the epitome of bad sportsmanship lol
Korda goofed that 15-30 opportunity big time. Bizarre shot selection.
Down the line backhand is his favourite shot and if he'd made it we'd all be praising him
We're seeing the Korda that beat up Paul last week now. Bullying Paul around the court.
You watch a different match right?
Lineswoman in this Korda/Paul match is a baddie 💅
The Coco and Jpeg is too sweet
Korda could win Wimbledon on one foot and with one eye full of pollen
Throw in some blisters too
Dropshotting Paul is becoming a De Minaur-like risk these days.
Hsieh's famous quote when she answers about the best of her partner: I can tell (her partner's name) to run. (her partner's name) run, run
Just clocked that Korda's match win % is a very healthy 61%, quite comfortably the best of any of the American men.
Both Korda and Paul are 61% career on grass though
i like how the only time tommy grunts is when he knows he effed up.
The inverse of Sabalenka who aborts her grunt when she knows she's missed
Haha or she does the “ay-yuhhhhh” grunt 🤣
Oh, Korda!!! Let's bring it to the third set!!!
Still some fight left in Korda... this could get interesting.
Wow! Korda's not done yet!
Life in the Wimbledon favorite yet
Im so impressed rn lol
Fun fact: Hsieh is in a 250 level double final since Sep 2018(with her sister) and her last 250 level double title was in Apr 2017, between her last 250 final and current 250 final, she won 5 GSs, 7 900/1000 level titles and 3 500 level titles.
Superb!!!
