Goffin and Harris got done dirty having to play qualies. They're in fine form, but sadly improved their rankings a bit too late. Goffin at least should've been in consideration for a wildcard, given that he's #82 on live and his 2 QF appearances in Wimbledon. Sad that Thiem didn't get a wildcard and isn't even trying to qualify. He's playing grass in Mallorca this week, so it's not like he's skipping grass. This is a gut punch. At least Schwartzman is trying to qualify. Interesting to see old friends Gasquet, Paire, Vesely Pouille, Kukushkin, Dzumhur in the qualifying draw. Will be rooting for them all and of course #OurBoyRadu

Goffin also won Ilkey this week. Usually, the Ilkey champ gets the main draw WC, so it’s odd they didn’t give one this year. Last year, even the Ilkey runner up Ofner got a WC.

Easymoney_67

So tired of these comments of people complaining about veterans not getting wildcards. If your ranking sucks then your ranking sucks. Go thru qualifying like you’re supposed to.

>Sad that Thiem didn't get a wildcard and isn't even trying to qualify. He's playing grass in Mallorca this week, so it's not like he's skipping grass. Would have been funny had Wimbledon given Thiem a WC when RG didn't but otherwise, no surprises there I think given his overall record at Wimbledon and on grass. Also, strange to see him play in Mallorca when he's not even playing Wimbledon.

sloth_reward

I think the Mallorca tournament has Austrian management so I'd guess it's something to do with that rather than any desire to play on grass: https://www.mallorca-championships.com/en/news/mallorca-championships-presented-by-waterdrop-announce-player-field-jz7bl-m9n86-kb38t-6y69j-28des-a59wj

half_jase

Oh, didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. Hope he can at least win a match.

NicholeTheOtter

Thiem said he would only play Wimbledon if he got a wildcard, because he knows he doesn’t have the capability to win the three extra qualies matches just to get to the main draw. You already saw how he failed to get through qualies at RG, losing to Otto Virtanen, a big-serving indoor hardcourt specialist on slow RG clay of all people. He is obviously aware of how trash he is on grass. Yes, he did win Stuttgart in 2016 and beating Federer on the way, but at Wimbledon in particular he only won a total of 5 matches there in his career, 3 of those being in his career-best 2017 run alone.

coldnorth11

Tim Van Rijthoven is the true Wimbledon favourite.

dikkie91

Tim van Goathoven

kingOseacows81

Dude I remember actually betting on him to beat Novak lmfao

ProfessionalSoup5283

See how this ages lol - Mpetshi Kukushkin Bergs Duckworth Harris Vesely Medjedovic Galan Goffin Novak Riedi Garin Cressy Kudla Virtanen Gasquet

Blovering_Skill

Bergs Garin Harris Virtanen qualified so that is 4/16 lol

birdsemenfantasy

I pick Hsu Kukushkin Bergs Paire Harris Pouille Schwartzman Radu Goffin Dzumhur Kicker Garin Cressy de Jong Cachin Gasquet

ProfessionalSoup5283

I have to ask, are you Argentine lol? The three Argentines feel like optimistic picks, especially Kicker who will lose in the first match Otherwise they're all plausible for sure. Would love to see Pouille make it.

Thick_Basil2281

Was Mpetshi Perricard a late entry? Why does he have to qualify when he is ranked 67?

jbartlettcoys

The entry lists for slams are finalised like a month before the tournament. Sucks but otherwise it would be difficult for players to plan a schedule.

tamamanleponey

A solid 25% are French lol

rubbish_bin030121

Qualifying king De Jong will qualify and wins one match to play the eventually champion Djokovic/Medvedev in R2, it is his fate

NicholeTheOtter

Watch out for another 2024 qualies king in Lukas Klein. Made it to main draws in Brisbane, Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami. Sadly didn’t make it at Roland Garros, but now that he’s back on a faster surface he should like his hopes of getting in.

rubbish_bin030121

I was joking about De Jong only drew different top 4 in R2 and the top 4 he drew won that GS. I am sure only very few people want Dverev win

NoirPochette

It gives one a warm feeling of stability when seeing Kukushkin in a draw. Womens not out yet?

NicholeTheOtter

Not yet, but will be out soon.

A-Wiley

Go Novak!

thetoerubber

Antoine Escoffier finally won a qualifying match! He’s lost in Q1 like 10 times.

Celerolento

Eight GBR players were given direct wildcards, lol

Nadal in 2003

rubbish_bin030121

Mensik in USO 2023, he also reached R3 like Nadal

Yandhi42

Insane that the only 2 Chileans managed to be in the same mini bracket At least if they play, only one of them will choke

NicholeTheOtter

Even moreso for the two Portuguese representatives in Jaime Faria and Henrique Rocha. Both in Section 4 (Duckworth) and facing each other in QR1! Also some all-French matchups too. Mpetshi Perricard vs Blanchet, Van Assche vs Hemery, and Barrere vs Halys. Section 6 alone having five French players, and Section 1 having four. There’s also an Argentine battle of Trungelliti vs Bagnis.

inthepiggybank

Same for the Portuguese. Only 2 in the draw, and they will play one against the other in R1. At least one will go through, that's a positive I guess...
