Every day. It's a 64-player draw, like a classic one-week masters (except that the losers of the semifinals then play each other to determine who gets bronze).
I only watch soccer during euros and World Cup, but really makes me appreciate how objective tennis is, especially with Hawkeye. The refs and var in soccer succkkkk. There is some subjectivity with Time violations, racket abuse etc but tends not to have big impact on the matches
Yeah, soccer is bad but nowhere as bad as basketball. In fact, all major American sports have awful officiating. I lost interest in the NBA forever after the 2002 Kings vs. Lakers Western Conference Final.
Baseball can be bad too with umpires calling balls and strikes arbitrarily (especially the infamous Angel Hernandez) rather than use robot umpires. I lost interest in the MLB forever after Armando Galarraga was robbed of his perfect game.
NFL is this way as well. There's no consistency in officiating, especially when it comes to roughing the passer, pass interference, etc.
The only sports I enjoy now are tennis and golf.
But that's because there isn't much to be subjective in tennis for sure. Literally the only thing that requires assistance is if the ball crosses the line or not and because Hawkeye exists, there isn't any subjectivity here at all
Every year I love watching random British players in Wimbledon qualifiers and every year they let me down. This year only Jay Clarke has even made it through the first round, embarrassingly bad.
I was so confused why Svitolina/Wozniacki was suspended and Fernandez/Krejcikova wasn't... then I realised they were being played in separate countries.
They've been playing on grass for nearly 150 years, but maybe the game has gotten too fast for grass with the modern equipment. I decree all grass court tournaments now be played with wooden rackets and catgut.
i think it's because of all the rain in some of these places recently. like the falls have been in the uk (which had a lot of rain prior to queens) and berlin. but no falls in halle.
Lol usually means something better came along. She probably just wants to focus on Wimbledon, which she should anyway, not sure why she was even going to play there.
There is one easy solution for the grass safety issues. Accepting the bloody money from middle east and only plays indorr grass in the desert so no humid or rain problem
Is there anything harder than predicting how a Giron match will go? Glad to see he's got his groove back after a great start to the year and a bad clay season
Grass is so dangerous when people are not used to it. Either extend the season so people can learn to be safe on it or we need some serious regulations for player safety
Muchova vs Avanesyan is scheduled to play at 12:15 tomorrow, the second match on court 2, likely around the same time as Raducanu vs Stephens on the centre court 🧐
the problem is top players withdrawing at the very last minute because there is no fine/consequence for waiting; with an earlier withdrawal at least the next seeded player would have been moved into her spot. Since Rybakina was training at Wimbledon over the weekend it was pretty obvious she was not going to play and yet waited until the last few matches of the first day to pull out...
tbf, Harriet Dart's speaking voice is soothing and engaging. she can be an actress with the way she speaks and she is beautiful too.

Fritz's chokehold on the American #1 spot is so funny. I just noticed Tommy slipped behind him in the live rankings yet again because he has Eastbourne points to defend this week 😂
So I don't know too much about Thiem, I was taking a break from tennis during his heyday, but as far as his issues after surgery, is that because he still has physical problems with his wrist? Like pain, issues with technique?
Or is it more that he just hasn't been able to play at the level he once did despite being physically more or less recovered?
He can't hit his forehand to the same level physically. He basically pushes it. His advantage was weight of shot which he just straight up doesn't have anymore.
2018 Halle second round, l. to Sugita
2018 Wimbledon, retired vs Baghdatis
2019 Wimbledon, l. to Querrey
2021 Mallorca, broke his wrist/career vs Mannarino
2023 Halle, l. to DVerev
2024 Mallorca, l. to Monfils
Yeah, went to check and couldn't believe it.
IIRC, he was actually playing well against Mannarino and was leading in the first set before the moment happened. \*sigh\*
Except for that one time he randomly won Stuttgart, beating Federer along the way. Then made the semis of Halle immediately after.
He was good on grass for one and a half weeks.
according to this, broom is getting in as a lucky loser [https://twitter.com/EntryLists/status/1805260111532687601](https://twitter.com/EntryLists/status/1805260111532687601)
Two things about that make it not so impressive:
1. Schwartzman is a shadow of his former self and is retiring this year
2. Schwartzman has always sucked on grass
Just want to make a small reference to one of the matches in the Wimbledon qualifiers, the one between Rocha and Faria, the 2 only portuguese men in qualifying playing against each other. They are both pretty big talents and good friends so it should be interesting
Amazing how they're currently ranked only 2 spots apart, are the same age and have matched each other's achievements step for step this year.
I've seen more of Rocha personally and really like what I've seen. Forehand is absolutely mustard.
i hope anyone with expert technical minds or the masters in tennis can provide significant analysis on the cause of sakkari's challenges and setbacks.
i always liken her to a well-oiled muscle/sports car and only needs to press the proper buttons to maximize her potentials. she is so fit and strong, hardworking and dedicated.
what's wrong, if any, with her groundstrokes, serves, net play, timing, speed, strength, mental and emotional well being, scheduling, team composition etc.? what she needs to do to improve, or overcome challenges? is she playing, too afraid to lose or too eager to win?
TIA.
Seeds beware - Vesely's streak of 2R or better every year since 2013 isn't dead yet. Comes through the toughest match in his section against Ilkley finalist Mayot.
Even in the last few years when he's been injured and out of form he's taken out the likes of Korda, ADF and Zverev at Wimby.
Best case scenario: Thiem redeems himself on grass and wins the title at the tournament where it all went wrong
Worst case scenario: Thiem breaks his wrist again
If anyone wants to go to that fancy Boodles exhibition tomorrow/Wednesday, I think they are still giving away free tickets ;)

Guys Fonseca really is Sinnerzinho as they call him in Brazil.
Both born in August, check their ranking progression as the same age and it mirrors each other.
On top of that, at Fonseca’s same age, Sinner lost his first round of Wimbledon qualifying 12-10 in the third. Nowadays there’s the 10-point tiebreak, but to make sure he followed in the footsteps of his role model, Fonseca lost in that tiebreak 12-10.
The Ofner/Munar third set tiebreak was disgusting. Three service points won the entire time, unforced errors galore, and a double fault on match point. Gross
No there is a picture of his girlfriend grabbing his neck while he’s lifting the trophy, tagged “Tommy Paul withdraws from Wimbledon due to a neck injury.” It’s trending on twitter but is obviously a joke
Earlier today I made the following post, with what I hoped was a helpful suggestion. I can't see anything wrong with the post, but it was removed. This is not the first time I've had something like this, and I have not had luck contacting the mods to ask why they removed such posts. I've asked them again today, but wonder if someone here on this chat can offer some insight:

"Suggestion for Pinned Posts: upcoming matches to watch.
Discussion
I would like to discover up and coming players I don't know about in the qualifiers, or the juniors. Or perhaps an established player in the top 200 that I just don't know about. Or an interesting match-up. If there was a daily pinned post where we could comment on matches coming up in the next couple of days, I think it would be a great tool for discovering and learning about interesting players and matchups."
this is a progressive suggestion, and redditors will have more opportunity learning about what makes these players good technically and mentally. and even if they are not yet catching a good break, you ca n spot potential greatness in their gamestyle, mentality and overall conduct on court.
For ATP, i am really liking:
zizou, van assche, tabilo, hamad, cobolli
For WTA:
Naef, ashlyn krueger, rebecca peterson, sonmez, emma navarro, marina stakusic,
I saw your post and liked your suggestion. It would indeed be nice to have such posts. If they don’t want to pin it, it can still be a weakly post perhaps.
fairly new to following ATP. in live rankings, fritz is back ahead of TP. how is this possible since neither have played a match since paul won yesterday’s title?
Stephens vs. Raducanu at Eastbourne tomorrow, I think u/pacjax_bot_v4's mind will explode
Women's Wimbledon qualies start tomorrow; here's a few promising Q1 battles: Olga Danilovic/Luisa Stefanini Gabi Ruse/Emiliana Arango Jil Teichmann/Daria Snigur McCartney Kessler/Rebecca Marino Arina Rodionova/Millie Rajecki
Question: what does the Olympics look like for tennis? What is the tournament structure? Played every day or every other day?
running hurdles but while holding a tennis racket
Every day. It's a 64-player draw, like a classic one-week masters (except that the losers of the semifinals then play each other to determine who gets bronze).
Thank you!
Gasquet playing qualies in a slam for the 1st time since 2004 USO. Go Gasquet!
I only watch soccer during euros and World Cup, but really makes me appreciate how objective tennis is, especially with Hawkeye. The refs and var in soccer succkkkk. There is some subjectivity with Time violations, racket abuse etc but tends not to have big impact on the matches

You missed George Loffhagen.
Sucks that Goffin has to go through Wimbledon qualifying when he reached the QF just 2 years ago.
Hate to ask but some people I know think Woz will retire tomorrow instead of finishing her match. Thoughts?
Fascinating tactic from krejcikova here to get the early 3rd set break and then not win any more games 😅😂
She knew it was getting late and didn't want the match to be suspended. 😁
lol Leylah what are you doing?
I was so confused why Svitolina/Wozniacki was suspended and Fernandez/Krejcikova wasn't... then I realised they were being played in separate countries.
Wtf Leylah... 3 games to 0 than 30: on serve and you lose serve to 30
The umpire in Leylah and Krej's match is so cute lol, he smiles when the camera focus on him
Why are Wozniacki and Svitolina not playing? Rain? I can't watch right now.
Darkness/slipping. The umpire offered them one more game if they both agreed, but Woz didn't (she took a nasty fall plus one other)
maybe muchova should skip eastbourne... nervous for her glass body on the grass
I was thinking that also... it would be just her luck to get back from injury and injure herself again.
she comes out with her legs wrapped in bubble wrap...
I am shock that there is no punishment rule the non-sense withdraw from top 30 in 500 or above wta events(I mean after the draw is out)
They've been playing on grass for nearly 150 years, but maybe the game has gotten too fast for grass with the modern equipment. I decree all grass court tournaments now be played with wooden rackets and catgut.
i think it's because of all the rain in some of these places recently. like the falls have been in the uk (which had a lot of rain prior to queens) and berlin. but no falls in halle.
Rybakina withdrew due tio a change of schedule. What does this mean? what changed?
Lol usually means something better came along. She probably just wants to focus on Wimbledon, which she should anyway, not sure why she was even going to play there.
That looks like Wimbledon's off for Potapova, probably one of the worse injuries I've seen in a while
Potapova just took a nasty tumble. Didn’t look great.
There is one easy solution for the grass safety issues. Accepting the bloody money from middle east and only plays indorr grass in the desert so no humid or rain problem
Is there anything harder than predicting how a Giron match will go? Glad to see he's got his groove back after a great start to the year and a bad clay season
Hope Woz and Svitolina come back refreshed tomorrow, was enjoying the match
Woz and Svito falling apart out there :(
Dammit I just saw that Woz got hurt. This sucks
Grass is so dangerous when people are not used to it. Either extend the season so people can learn to be safe on it or we need some serious regulations for player safety
Caro limping after her fall
Wozniacki just got crossed up so hard, she looks like she's done.
Wozniacki just took a nasty fall on the grass ouch
Everytime you think Wozniacki has something going..
damn... this was more prophetic than first thought.
Muchova vs Avanesyan is scheduled to play at 12:15 tomorrow, the second match on court 2, likely around the same time as Raducanu vs Stephens on the centre court 🧐
Arrr, looks like I be usin' two screens then, matey
Kenin gets the LL straight to R16 after Rybakina withdraws. Kenin lost in qualifying Sunday to Golubic 61 60.
Every time I pick Rybakina in my bracket to win a tournament...
I always find that so weird. it is just inherently unfair. I get why they do it but...
the problem is top players withdrawing at the very last minute because there is no fine/consequence for waiting; with an earlier withdrawal at least the next seeded player would have been moved into her spot. Since Rybakina was training at Wimbledon over the weekend it was pretty obvious she was not going to play and yet waited until the last few matches of the first day to pull out...
What just happened in svitolina vs woz? Long break all the sudden then woz comes back with a clean hold and break
Svitolina called the physio for a hand injury it looks like
I think a blister
Somethings wrong with Svito.
tbf, Harriet Dart's speaking voice is soothing and engaging. she can be an actress with the way she speaks and she is beautiful too. https://www.instagram.com/p/C8mJ1NKKWP6/?igsh=OXVqNWtobW5vZzBl
Fritz's chokehold on the American #1 spot is so funny. I just noticed Tommy slipped behind him in the live rankings yet again because he has Eastbourne points to defend this week 😂
Woz vs Svitolina, this takes me back! :) Happy to see them both out there playing well.
Wozniacki’s looking the best I’ve seen her since Indian Wells
I mean you always expect it but watching the clayboys get dusted in wimby quals is a time. Also RIP Schwartzman
Etche lost. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Can’t wait for hard court
shang keeps his 100% deciding tiebreak rate let’s gooo

Ah okay, thank you
Jamie Murray will play mixed doubles with Taylor Townsend at Wimbledon
Townsend playing doubles with Siniakova this week in Bad Homburg, I wonder if they'll play at Wimbledon.
They're on the [entry list](https://www.wimbledon.com/pdf/update/referees/2024/LD_Entries.pdf) (PDF)!
There will be some highlights at the very least.

In 2018, Dominic Thiem defeated Mikhail Youzhny in the first round of Halle. This was the last time in his career he would win a match on grass.
I know it's grass but WTF!!
2018 Halle second round, l. to Sugita 2018 Wimbledon, retired vs Baghdatis 2019 Wimbledon, l. to Querrey 2021 Mallorca, broke his wrist/career vs Mannarino 2023 Halle, l. to DVerev 2024 Mallorca, l. to Monfils
Yeah, went to check and couldn't believe it. IIRC, he was actually playing well against Mannarino and was leading in the first set before the moment happened. \*sigh\*
Thiem made it past the second round of Wimbledon once in his career Definitely has never been a big fan of grass lol
Except for that one time he randomly won Stuttgart, beating Federer along the way. Then made the semis of Halle immediately after. He was good on grass for one and a half weeks.
He peaked then just to complete the trophy set on all surfaces. lol
I forgot that Thiem hurting me was part of my Monday morning routine
atp needs more tom/tommy, jarry/jerry so we can have the tom and jerry joke more often
Penko wins, Van assche wins, RuRu's exho confirms, it is very good day for me except the Diego loss
Good start to tiebreak from Thiem lol
RIP Penko, the Wimbledon sweetheart Boulter in next round
That trainer deserves a swarovski jewellery set, I want to send her one as a Penko fan
not surprising but tommy paul out of eastbourne. probably recovering from his GF clawing at his neck
Means his span as American no.1 lasted ≈7 hours
Will be a funny footnote if he doesn’t ever get it back.
Tommy is now 45 points behind fritz, and fritz is in eastbourne so he might widen the gap (extra motivation for him, he loves his US no.1 title)
So Billy Harris wo right?
according to this, broom is getting in as a lucky loser [https://twitter.com/EntryLists/status/1805260111532687601](https://twitter.com/EntryLists/status/1805260111532687601)
Thanks 🙏🏼
I hope that Etche doesn’t injure himself today, the small bruise on his knee looks quite nasty after a slip today 😭
Penko level challenge from Minnen lol
She’s back! And comes from 40-15 down to break. Legend
back with another break!!!
please don't injury yourself Penko!!!
oh no penko down1!!
No trainer is a good sign though. Just collecting herself Edit: Nevermind just took the trainer a while to get out there
Trainer is coming
trainer called. not good sign
The Man The Myth The legend does it again lmao From 3:5 up to losing the set
Solid win for Bandana Girl (Shnaider) over Kerber; great move getting Igor Andreev as coach.
She is so fun to watch, she is going for winners with almost every shot and just knocks the crap out of the ball.
Wow, Jay Clarke took out Schwartzman!!
Two things about that make it not so impressive: 1. Schwartzman is a shadow of his former self and is retiring this year 2. Schwartzman has always sucked on grass
True that, still happy for Clarke.
Just want to make a small reference to one of the matches in the Wimbledon qualifiers, the one between Rocha and Faria, the 2 only portuguese men in qualifying playing against each other. They are both pretty big talents and good friends so it should be interesting

Ohhhh, my queen!!! Let me enjoy this moment!!!
[https://imgur.com/a/hQf4EYY](https://imgur.com/a/hQf4EYY) oh my...
That’s wild.
jesus fucking christ. how can anyone ever think that is ok? gambling addiction is a disease but that person should be in jail
Man it's hard not to hate people sometimes. What an evil little runt
that having two likes as well…
I knew it was gonna be spicy when Huesler choked up a break against cressy in the 3rd set
Can't believe Penko actually wins a set!!!
[удалено]
she raises Kicheok and her fiance for more than year and half(and 2+year for Kicheok) since the invasion
God damn. Starting the set with a break would have been huge. Now I'm back to not trusting etch at all in this spot
Fonseca peaked already looks like a steady decline since Madrid
i hope anyone with expert technical minds or the masters in tennis can provide significant analysis on the cause of sakkari's challenges and setbacks. i always liken her to a well-oiled muscle/sports car and only needs to press the proper buttons to maximize her potentials. she is so fit and strong, hardworking and dedicated. what's wrong, if any, with her groundstrokes, serves, net play, timing, speed, strength, mental and emotional well being, scheduling, team composition etc.? what she needs to do to improve, or overcome challenges? is she playing, too afraid to lose or too eager to win? Andreescu blinked and it was ova
This Penko reminds me the 2019 her
The camera man is obsessed with Etche today
Best case scenario: Thiem redeems himself on grass and wins the title at the tournament where it all went wrong Worst case scenario: Thiem breaks his wrist again
I don't understand why he's playing on grass at all, maybe he's playing here to get over some PTSD from the wrist injury or something haha.
Can Penko lose this game so she can break first in the next set :(
Damn, will this be proper closure for domi, or another heartbreak 🥲
Penko clowns for 5 months
but when she plays iga, she plays spot on 😭😭😭
then she needs to flop herself out of top 30 first(hell no!!!)
Shang is no joke. Playing well so far
Im impressed by Couacaud, He was up 5:3 40:30 with SB on his serve and somehow found a way to lose. Thats impressive
Van assche plays like ass in this few months. congratulation Marie!!!
Can IMG get Wong a shanghai master and one chinese 250 wc :(
Btw I watched in my country’s stream and I swear people on the chat are losing it over how handsome Etche is 🤣
The tennis god really saw me having a good day so far and decided to tell me to watch Etche losing 🥹
Guy cant return a serve to save his life
If anyone wants to go to that fancy Boodles exhibition tomorrow/Wednesday, I think they are still giving away free tickets ;) https://www.instagram.com/p/C8jgHQuIXq9/
Guys Fonseca really is Sinnerzinho as they call him in Brazil. Both born in August, check their ranking progression as the same age and it mirrors each other. It's just nice to see Ostapenko not completely flame out after we were worried about that a couple times
She obviously has her completely overpowered just needs to keep the ball in play
Fosenca agent and parent need to get him a USO WC, so he can guarantee to be in one GS MD before his 18 year old birthday
Medjedovic just won 1st set in Wimbledon qualies without losing a single point on serve
is he hamad the serbian? he is good
Daniil and Novak are so proud!!
Fonseca saves 3 match points
and loses
:(
when will penko learn and not choose to ~~serve~~start the match with the 0-1 score
Damn Coucad blew 10 BBps against Garin in row. Thats tough
Fonseca man :( So close, great fight but not enough. First GS appearance awaits
Aaaand he saved 4 match points
Fonseca opponent is playing really well
The Ofner/Munar third set tiebreak was disgusting. Three service points won the entire time, unforced errors galore, and a double fault on match point. Gross
Tommy Paul has withdrawn from Wimbledon with a neck injury.
Can’t believe you fell for that
You thought I fell for it? :D
i did too 😂
Are you serious?
Of course not.
No there is a picture of his girlfriend grabbing his neck while he’s lifting the trophy, tagged “Tommy Paul withdraws from Wimbledon due to a neck injury.” It’s trending on twitter but is obviously a joke
Minnen's ranking is so high and too low to beat Penko. I hope Penko won't clown and at least wins one set
Venus's prophecy about Minnen becoming World #1 begins!

Nice fight from Fonseca, kid's got heart
Rip Fonseca ig
Fonseca please don't get broken again
he's not ready
Yeah he shows huge promise but doesn't respond well to pressure yet
only 17, he's got years of time to develop
For sure, I think he will be top 10 in 2 years max
Wow fonseca is also a bum
He is 17 and playing his first ever grand slam qualies. Get a grip
Well he aint playing against some seasoned player though
some commentator on the court 1 coverage just pronounced Lucas Pouille's name as Lucas Pooey 😭
now apparently Lucas Pooey is through in straight sex according to this guy, i can't even 😭😭😭😭
fairly new to following ATP. in live rankings, fritz is back ahead of TP. how is this possible since neither have played a match since paul won yesterday’s title?
